    Dear Americans,
    We don’t eat this at all unless we’re on a sophisticated railway ride or in Chelsea or Kensington, London. I’m British and I’ve only ever had this 3 times in my life 😂

    • @imsoboredhahaha

      Of course, you'd have to be pretty rich in order to eat like this everyday that which I'm willing to bet most English aren't. 'Afternoon tea' for most is simply just having a cup of bagged tea around noon time, nothing special.

    • @jules7874
      @jules7874 5 лет назад +29

      usually we don’t have afternoon tea often, we have it as a treat with friends and compared to what Americans think, we don’t have it always. also for scones it’s jam then cream :)

      I worked at a construction company and as a bonus from a client, we were served full afternoon tea with all the trimmings. Imagine 25 burly tradesmen, sitting at tables with fresh white linen clad tables laden with delicate china, drinking tea and eating dainty finger food.... we all became strangely civilised and gentlemanly, it was surreal.

    The pinkie emerged in pre revolutionary french aristocratic culture. The rules about how could bed who were a tad laissez faire, to say the least. The pinkie poking out emerged as a way for noble women to let any potential partners to the fact that the lady in question had venereal disease. So there we go.
    And also, it is known that the Queen prefers her scones the Cornish way, which is jam and then cream, and for god's sake, do not sandwich the two halves together.

    • @Hekat1988
      @Hekat1988 3 года назад

      Oh really? I had always heard that the pinky finger pointing when drinking came from when herbs and spices were very expensive and so to be polite you would keep your little finger off your glass to keep it dry so that when you went to pinch some pepper or spice or herb with your thumb and little finger you did not take more then you actually needed.

Not all British people who drink tea let alone around the world do it like they over exaggerate it in the movies.Then when they said cheers. Cringe worthy. We cheers everything? Think about a normal meal between two people that is proper, do you hear glasses clingy and people being obnoxious and saying cheers? NO!!

      But the pinkie thing isn’t correct.
      No idea where it came from or why people do it.
      It’s usually only seen in people who look up to “posh” people, who are trying to look fancy but have no actually contact with them and think its what posh people do (their own words). If anything it’s a faux pas.

      Nae West people think all British people do afternoon tea and that it’s all fancy and posh but that’s not true. A lot of people I know (yes all British including me) don’t do afternoon tea. Plus afternoon tea isn’t always like that they just did, it can be having a cup of tea in your living room with some biscuits watching tv. Because of that’s it’s probably normal in a lot of countries

  • @RylieRees

    i'm American who lived in England last year for a year & seven summers in a row before that & i can justifiably say, this is very high end afternoon tea ( which i've done & have loved ) & you can still go for tea and scones without spending a lot. I was happy with just going for a cream tea ( a pot of tea & two scones ) & i was perfectly happy. Most of my friends who are British love high tea too, but don't go as often as people make it out to be. This is not like an everyday or weekly thing but common.

      Onces is elevenses, which is similar to brunch. You have it at about eleven. You can tell because onces is Spanish for elevens

    • @danielabenavente1562
      @danielabenavente1562 6 лет назад +4

      shadebug you’re not suppose to have it by eleven but normally you eat in between lunch and dinner
      It’s called onces because minors used it as a code for aguardiente (hard liquor), since the word has eleven letters.
      In Chile we normally eat tostadas con palta or avocado toast for once

    Damn, I love tea. I specifically searched for tea videos, just because I love it so much. I‘m from germany and in the northern parts of our country we actually have lots of tea rooms too (sadly, not where I‘m from) and I grew up having a lot of black tea with milk on saturdays and sundays with cake, biscuit or other sweets. I loooved it so much and am now always thinking of those cozy weekends with my family, everytime I‘m having one. Became a real addiction. I‘m always buying different sorts of tea from my local tea shop and have a pot of tea every morning. Soooo much better than coffee! Sorry for the long text, I just wanted to express my love for tea 😬

      James Dutson is that why I haven't really enjoyed most scones I've tried? Here in the southern US I've never seen clotted cream and/or jam made available to go with a scone. if eating a scone without cream and jam is like eating a hot dog without mustard on it, well no wonder I haven't been impressed by a scone! it's incomplete!

    • @jdutson12

    • @arrgghh1555

      Should probably start with getting proper scones. US scones are more like rock cakes and no amount of jam or cream could make that taste nice. British scones are basically a sweet 'American biscuit'.
