For this SpydieChef owner, “Form” follows “Function” but they are considered together. The primary function of these two knives have nothing to do with one another other than the fact they have rust resistant premium steels. The SpidieChef is a food prep knife that also functions very well in secondary EDC functional tasks. The QuietCarry is a good pocket knife but not a food prep knife. The SpidieChef is also a good pocket knife. Being a sailor, the SpidieChef Is also an extremely good rigging knife in salt air/water environment. Your grade is based upon what you term “Aesthetics” which Webster defines as: “decorative” and what designers and architects weigh as a component of “Form”. So, maybe from a decorative perspective I’ll agree with your giving that distinction to the QuietCarry,… but for me a knife is a tool carried for function not decoration or show. The superior “Form” that I would award to the SpidieChef is the fat that it is so well rooted in a broad range of Functionality”.
Couldn’t have said it better.
Finally, I added the Waypoint to my collection and wow!! Hope you and the family are doing well 🤗🍻💕
I agree, good battle. I'm breaking in my Waypoint now, finally got it today. 👍
Such amazing knives available nowadays!
I don't own either knife but I prefer the look of the Quiet Carry. I'll add it to my wishlist (which is too long to begin with).
Paul Perez ...yep...me too.
Me too...
spydiechef. i like the function meets fashion. ergos look great in hand. almost seems like the handle and blade are shaped for better positioning when cutting. they even machined grooves for a comfier pinch grip. i dig the odd look and prefer the lower price. LC200n has more than enough edge stability for me.
I have the Quiet Carry Drift, and the Spydie Chef. Both are really great knives. The Drift is a bit tricky to flick open with the thumb, but you can Spydie flick it very easily. I really love the thin slicey blade on the Drift.
I have a Drift and made the same observations. I prefer the Chef.
Awesome video thanks
Great video !! Both well designed knives, both excellent materials. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
The spydie chef does kind of have a sharpening Choil!
The Quit Carry is really nice looking. I have the Chef and use it a lot...including all last summer Saltwater fishing. The lanyard hole is key for that application--you need a lanyard with wet hands so the knife doesn't end up in the bottom of the sea. If the Quit Carry had one, I would buy it in second...
Love the videos Slicey.
100% agree! I own both, love both. Will not sell either. For me, the Waypoint is the easier all around carry and goes with me more often. The Chef is used and stored in the kitchen even though I also own and use a professional grade block of chef knives. The Waypoint is much more attractive and sleek and can easily fill the gentleman’s carry purpose too. The Quiet Carry brand of knives are high quality and blow away Tactile knives. I have bought 3 each. Quiet Carry all perfect; Tactile all flawed.
I've got 2 chefs and decided I didn't think the waypoint was worth the 49 dollar shipping cost on top of the knife.
i just got my Waypoint today and i am amazed by the quality. this is easily my new edc.
Ok went to the mail box and been playing around with it for a while. If it doesn’t make Knife of the year I will be surprised. I just might need to a up another and I don’t do that often.
Spydiechef definitely. The use of non-corrosive materials needs to be supplemented by fuctionality and ergonomics. Spydiechef's blade shape does not look appealing at all but you will appreciate it once you use it. QC's design is beautiful but I feel like Vanax is not intended for that shape and form. It could pretty much be ok with S35vn and in that case I'll add a little and get a CRK. Just my opinion.
If the chef came out with a vanax version I think I would have to get one. But I would personally prefer a vanax UKPK, due to the legal restrictions I live with.
I have the Spydiechef and if I'd get the quiet that'd be because of the Vanax, nothing else... Thanks for the comparison video.
As i said when i first saw it and read materials is made from.....that waypoint is a winner, and it will be knife of the year....and i need one :) .
The waypoint is so good.... I loved my chef as well, but the waypoint just makes me much much happier.
Thanks for the video 😎👍
I agree
My quiet carry is in the mail box right now. I’m even home and have yet to run out to get the it.
I've been debating purchasing both. Comprehensive review helped my decision - Not. lol. I still want both. Mahalo
The mystery maker is just not a consideration. I'm fine with outsourced production and overseas factories; the operation just looks bad when it is so uneasy with the factory. I suppose it is a plus that he did not pretend to make it in his own factory like some other small operations.
Scott G The overseas maker is Quiet Larry...🙂
Chef all day. It just looks cool
TdTbMp the chef is a beautiful knife, I absolutely agree.
Can you please explain what CQI version means. Thanks for making your videos, I learn a lot from you some of the other knife reviewers.
Continuos quality improvement. Spyderco doesn't stop development after producing and selling a knife. They make improvements if necessary in an effort to make the knife better than before.
Perfect explination
Thanks for the comparison! Is your SpydieChef really 23 thousands BTE? That would be pretty aberrant from what I’ve seen. I’ve only seen it reported elsewhere as around 15, which is right where mine is. Than thin edge and very tall flat grind make it a great slicer, but 23 would probably make it performed very differently.
I've had two. Both were between 20-23. It's a difficult measurement to take, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Pretty in line with a lot of Spydercos.
I’m an avid viewer and somehow I missed that you switched back to a Wrangler for demos. Also, can’t wait to get my Waypoint!!
FreedomVan got mine it’s pretty amazing
No way the QC is a "better slicer" that full flat grind on that tall blade stock slices with the best of them.
Spydiechef without a doubt. The QC looks like every other generic titanium folder. The Chef has more style that also makes it more user friendly as well. I also anodized mine blue with the 9v battery trick and it looks even more awesome. And I will always prefer a full flat grind on my blade. And for $60 less, best value hands down. The QC is a nice knife, but the Spydiechef is much cooler.
I don't think the QC on the QC (see what I did there?) shows up well on camera.
What’s your thought between the ikuchi vs the waypoint. Just in fun factor. The steel is no comparison. I can’t drop 300 on one knife and then 140 on the other. I had the spydiechef and sold it. Mainly because I needed the money. I had my fun with it and made money on it. Bought for 214, sold for 275 back when you could not get them
It doesn't bother me as much that it is not USA made, but it does bother me that they will not say..... What are they hiding?
I wish spyderco would do a chef 2 with a compression lock.
Not a bad idea. I’d like to have the first version before that would come out
Jarrid O'Bryan he may want to keep the mfg "quiet" so that other knife designers don't pile on?
I sound like a broken record, but owning both of those knives I agree with you on every category.
Who makes Ganzo knives.. I know, sounds crazy...
Hey slicey quick question what would you say on a scale of 1 to 10 The toughness of these steals are? thank you!
This reminds me of a 940
Perhaps ye shall see another Battle To The Death with the 940-1...
Why they hell haven't they put a steel insert in this thing yet
Do you remember Ruike P801...very well made.. put better materials , maybe ??
I love my Spydiechef, but would happily have a Waypoint in my collection; it looks great. How does the Waypoint compare to a Sebenza 21? Thanks for your videos and greetings from Australia
Much smaller than a Sebenza large. Bigger than a small. Much slimmer knife. Not really that similar at all.
Do you still experience lock stick in your spydiechef and sebenza?
I still have lock stick on my spydie but it is slowly getting better. Make sure you clean all the oil off the frame lock.
I always hear Quiet Carry and think of that tiny little keychain knife they came out with years ago.
Brian Steenrod they made some nice stuff. Like the drift and the iq. I’d like to have a iq
Spydiechef for me. It just has cooler design. The waypoint is a better edc knife but the design is too plain I feel I will get bored looking at it after a few months.
How do I send u a video clip of my knife collection ?
How many do you have?
You don't
The overseas manufacturer is "Quiet Larry".....
I went back through one of Bryce's previous Kickstarter projects, and he definitely ignored every question about where that product was made. It's one thing to keep the maker private, but I don't understand why he can't be transparent about the country. I like my QC products, but I just don't get it.
panterahoosier he may want to keep it "quiet" so that other knife designers don't pile on?
I'm not down with hole haters
I absolutely can reverse flick it. Just pinch the pivot area and give it a shot. Shove your fingernail behind the thumbstud and flick out.. ps I gotta get a spydie chef. Ughhh
Had a Quiet Carry l.Q.....too small and fiddle for me...sold it...(don't get all the fuss about that knife?)...I am not in the Spydie Cult...but do have a few of their knives...I think that this Quiet Carry, although well-made and functional is one of the most boring designs considering all the cool knives out there. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........ "to me"....I have been looking at an dealer-exclusive SpydieChef ...(a much more interesting knife than the Q.C.), but just can't pull the trigger in this economic climate...although I have been flicking my Drunken thru this entire review so...it’s all good! 😎
What dealer is the exclusive at?
Knifejoy?
Tristan Dauod yes...The Bomber!....but don’t buy it...I want it! LOL!
.023" bte on spydiechef? Let me get my calipers and get back.
Did you get the calipers?
I got .016" to .018"
Blasphemy!
I'd guess the Waypoint parts are made in Italy, possibly Managio. Just a gut feeling.
I don't think so. Doesn't feel Italian.
Spydiechef was robbed on aesthetics. Gorgeous knife.
I like it, but a lot of people REALLY don't.
Yep, beautiful and at the end of the day is why I want(need) it.
The QC is too plain in my opinion. Put it next to 5 other titanium frame locks and other than some divots on the side you cant point it out. Design should have went to the spyderco for sure!
Design is more then just looks. The qc is perfect.
The Waypoint is ugly. If the Spydiechef was in my price range I would own one. I kind of wish the scales were a little rounded like the Slysz Bowie.
