    TCC = 15 for me, it helped so much. I bought a brandnew M15R7 with i9 12900, the temperatures got too 100 Celcius very often. My laptop frozen a couple of times during gaming. But using what you showed here stopped that. Thank you!

I am not sure how important those holes are north of the keyboard. Could you consider to include this in your future review videos? I hardly see any reviewer talk about this. I just purchased the 3080 variant so obviously I will be playing more CPU heavy triple A titles as I am sure anyone else would with any 30 series GPU to be honest. Yes, I set them to balanced as that was the best way to show the effects of TCC as it allows the cpu 105w but doesn't ramp the fans up. I could have switched it to performance and there would have been slightly better performance but at the cost of a noisier system.

      There is also a couple of other videos that go with it (undervolting and overclocking GPU) they are linked in that videos description.
      Dell are obviously confident that 100c is no problem for the CPU but I personally use a TCC of 10 to get it to throttle at 90c. That with a CPU undervolt will keep the laptop cooler without loosing any real performance.

      Nope! If you want to increase battery use throttlestop (I have a video on it) and undervolt the cpu and use a profile with lower clocks. Also turn the monitor to 60hz instead of 144 or 300

  • @iamjptheadventurer

    To fix over heating issues due to playing war zone all I did was lower the cpu power consumption on the pc power settings. Set it to 85% on both settings and after the change my temps went from 100c to about 67c. Huge difference and I can’t tell that the pc isn’t at full potential. I still run fans on full speed of course. Though I’d like to run them on something quieter. So should I go through the hassle of doing everything you’ve put in your videos ?

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  2 года назад +1

      yes you should! throttle stop is a lot better than capping CPU, it means your CPU is running at a constant low speed so everything will be slower including level load times, apps launching. By using TS you can lower the individual multipliers so keep single core speeds high but multi threaded load low (so still low temps in gaming). Also undervolting makes a big difference

      Hi, it won’t affect heat but it will affect battery by a lot. The 300hz screen is a much faster panel so if gaming is the priority get that, if you want an all round laptop with ok battery get the 144hz (it’s still not great)

      Sorry for some reason I only saw your last message. The fact it throttles in warzone on balanced mode was enough for me to run the tests. The point was just to see what effect TCC would have in normal use (hence balanced as that is how dell ship the laptop) obviously for those of us that tweak our machines there is so much more we can do to improve temps and performance but a fair number of people will buy a machine and just use it. I am putting together a m15/m17 performance tweaking guide to help people without the knowledge in this area to get the best from the machine

    Why throttle? When gaming, I use cooling at full speed / Overclock 2 and my CPU/GPU sit below 60°C at all times playing COD. RTX 3080. I’d rather have my fans go out first than melting my laptop. So far 4 months and doing great. I’m also using a usb cooling pad, usb connected to a different power source. Great machine and enjoying it.

Righ now the CPU sits at 75C all cores and threads active above 4GHz and the GPU overclocked with +1000MHz memory and 2050 on core using MSI afterburner table it sits at 65C. This is what I expect out of the box but wheres the fun in that lol glad I did the mod and purchase

      It's rather funny because it's only competition, the GE76 Raider is running practically if not the exact same hardware (150watt tdp GTX3080, i7-10870H, 32GB of RAM) and yet has far superior temps. It's normal for an Alienware to overheat and die within a few years especially if you game a lot on it, their thermals (even desktops) are notoriously terrible. A lot of people say 100c is a safe ceiling, I beg to differ, keep a Laptop at that temp on the daily for 3-6 hours, and it's guaranteed it'll die in a couple years, that's the reality, Laptops were never built to be a desktop replacement, you can't keep them on consistently, especially at such a high temp, and expect them to last very long, that's unless it sounds like an F15 (hence the GE76's better temps and over all build quality, that thing is built to last).

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  3 года назад +6

      Rob, Use the TCC offset and undervolt and you will run cooler and not loose any performance. I have a video on the way showing how to tweak the system for best mix of performance and temps.
      Mitrik, how many sustained watts does the MSI allow the CPU? I wonder if that could be part of the difference as Dell allow 105w to the CPU sustained, if you cap the wattage the temps fall drastically

      @@MashITTech I am not currently certain of that, from all the footage I've seen regarding the GE76 Raider, rarely, even in higher demanding titles, do I ever see it running between 90c and 97c, something I've routinely seen Alienware laptops running. There is also the anti-consumer practice of soldering on the RAM, making any dead ram basically impossible for an average person to replace, and would most likely void the warranty. So if it isn't the ridiculous temps, it's the charred remains of the parts you literally can't replace without resoldering replacements back on.
      I currently don't own a GE76, I've been researching for the past few months since the announcements of the 3080 Laptops, and so far it's the only one with the most performance and cooling out of the lot. Also, it highly depends on which processor you have, the i9 runs a lot hotter than the i7 model regardless of what Laptop you buy, so it flatout might be due to this and poor thermals/build quality, something again is routine for Alienware. 10fps seems to be a pretty big difference by the way, I wouldn't call that small by any stretch, nor would I say you don't loose "any performance".
      There is one particular channel that has been releasing videos with the i7/32GB of RAM/3080(150) GE76 Raider, the benchmarks I've seen have completely blown this out of the way entirely. The channel goes by the name of "Geremoy", here's Shadow of the Tomb Raider: ruclips.net/video/BR8r0UJeLPI/видео.html - Mind you, this channel has been releasing a lot of content with this Laptop, across MANY games. I can't make my choice lightly, the amount of money I am spending requires a lot of research, and an incredibly difficult decision, I don't trust Dell, nor do I trust Alienware as a brand, and this video only serves as proof that they still haven't managed their thermals properly when others have done so much better.
