Thank you mate, you had a great time with them. Probably 1 more video to go then we are moving on. Though we are still waiting for a lot of new machines to arrive! Stock seems so short here at the moment :(
Thank you for all the effort and time you put into the M15 R4 videos. Mine just arrived yesterday and the first thing I did (after installing a second ssd) was to follow all of your recommended performance and thermal tweaks. It was so much easier following along with your videos while I was making the changes. I set the TCC to -10, undervolted the CPU -80, and overclocked the GPU (I used AWCC) +125/+200. It's running great on the balanced thermal profile with all the changes. CPU never goes above 90c, the fans are very reasonable, my TimeSpy/FireStrike results are as good or better than my desktop pc with a 2080 and 9th gen intel cpu, and game performance has been great. I have the cherry mechanical keyboard, and it's the best typing keyboard I've had on any pc, desktop or laptop. It's certainly louder than a regular keyboard, but man it feels good and clean to type on.
I've had my M15R4 for about a month now and just stumbled across these videos. Incredibly helpful and well executed, this definitely helps ease my thermal paranoia. XD
Another great video. Thanks again for helping me with the undervolt for my m17 r3. I got 90-95c now but hoping with a few more tweaks I can get 85-90. All about that longevity!
Great buddy thanks. I think you mentioned previously that you would be possibly doing a video on custom fan settings? If not I was just fantasising that such a video exists to make my laptop even cooler!!
Thank you for this quick & thorough guide. I've been struggling with this laptop since I got it. I love everything about it but the thermals. They're honestly atrocious. These steps 110% improved overall cooling and reduced the amount of thermal throttling I kept hitting. I smashed that sub button for sure.
Just got a score of 11,156 on timespy with an i7 and RTX 3070 on my M15 R4 and the cpu never goes past 90 degrees, thank you so much man! If I could subscribe more than once I definitely would in a heart beat!
Hey could you give me a rundown of how you got those numbers? I’ve got the exact same laptop and when following his guide my score only gets worse for whatever reason.
@@myyoutube4906 Have you checked your temps? It sounds like you could be thermal throttling. Do you own a cooling pad? If that's not the case maybe your oc is too high and you could be losing performance? I don't remember my exact settings since I've changed them. Right now I have my cpu undervolted to -125mv on the core and -100mv cache. My highest stable oc I tested was +190 on the core and +1000 on the memory. I also followed a few steps on a guide on Reddit called "Tuning New Gaming Laptops - Quick, Easy and Stable Tweaks for Improved Performance". If you're gonna follow this guide only do the steps you understand and willing to do, you don't want to mess something up on accident. And finally, I use the cooling pad by the name of "IETS GT500". By doing all of this I achieved a timespy score 11,423 and my gpu temps don't go past ~65 degrees and my cpu temps don't go past ~76. This is without repasting.
@@finished502 those are insane temps. I have a cooling pad with adjustable fans that are blowing directly into the intake at the bottom of the laptop. Ill check out this tutorial you recommended and see how it goes. Thank you!
Absolutely amazing video. Thanks man. I'm waiting for the new alienware with intel 11th gen. Hope they will have also the tcc option and allow for undervolting.
Congrats on 5k! This is soo useful no matter what the laptop is. I am guessing that with the under volts and the TCC, the battery life will also lightly improve. Hopefully Dell / Alienware will have the newer Intel CPUs (or even Ryzen) towards May / June. Really considering getting the m15 in a few months (with the new 8 core Intel CPU, 3070, 32GB RAM).
Thank you, can’t believe how fast we have got here! Yes, I tried getting a date out of alienware but they were very tight lipped! Will be ordering them the second they are released 👍
@@MashITTech Considering the constant sales on the XPS lines and Alienware (from time to time).. At one point some XPS laptops were sold out for a while... I am guessing that it would be quite soon, in the next month or so..... though who knows :D
@@wardach I guess there always will be new technology around the corner :D . Even now the Alienware 15/17 seem really powerful.... In my case, I can wait for a few more months.... So I am waiting :) It seems logical enough that at least Intel will release something soon.... I just wish for newer CPUs of some kind ( the leaked new Intel or Ryzen) :D
@@zerohbeat completely agree. But idk how soon the new Alienware will be since it's called the R5 instead of R4. I want to do some music production in addition to gaming and those Ryzen CPUs are supposed to be better for CPU tasks.
Obsessing over my purchase, waiting on its arrival. M15 r4 3060 32gb 300hz display. 1tb raid0 and 512 ssd storage. Watched all your stuff. Fingers crossed no regrets. Did see someplace that I may consider upgrading the quality of ram? Slightly concerned with display selection aswell. I got the per key board.
Your ram is soldered on the r4 so you cannot change it but it’s good ram anyway. What screen option did you get? And yes I am pretty sure unless dell have changed the configuration it will be per key rgb
The 300hz doesn’t affect FPS. It’s 1080p so you will get good FPS if you get this or if you get the 144hz panel. The advantage to the 300hz is the panel is much faster and more responsive so you feel more connected especially if playing a fast paced FPS. The other advantage of the 300hz is it is connected directly to the rtx card so you get much more stable FPS and less bugs than an Optimus laptop at the expense of battery life
@@MashITTech Dell mentioned Europe's later date specifically on Discord; but they may have meant to say "EU" narrowly rather. I don't see even a single R5 on the UK site while US site already has ~four R5 configs.
Well I will keep an eye on the U.K. site and let you know when they release it. I will order it and compare with the alienware. I just ordered the new g15 in both intel and ryzen so will compare those too
I know im late, but can you have throttlestop chnage the voltage without needing it open? Like if everything looks good, can I set it to change immediatly, then not need it open again?
Thank you. Can’t wait to see your m15r5 video and m17 3080. Just one question, the only undervolting is the cpu right? No undervolt on GPU. GPU can overclock by MSI after burner.
By overclocking the gpu in msi afterburner you are essentially undervolt into it at the same time. The cards have a max wattage they can pull and overclocking cannot exceed that so you are getting a higher performance per watt. Hope this makes sense 👍
My model didn’t have that. We have had a 144Hz model with advanced Optimus and gsync and cherry mech keyboard on order since the release day of the mechanical keyboard and it still hasn’t shipped 😭 as soon as it arrives we will cover it
Fantastic content as always. Such a huge fan of your work. Do you think Dell will send you the M17 R4 with the 3080 and i-9? A similar video with these specs would be amazing. Totally understand if that isn't realistic though.
Thanks mate. I am afraid they won't. I will keep nagging to try and change their minds (you would think they would want the publicity/reviews!) I wish I made enough to just buy it myself! I do at least have the cherry mechanical keyboard m17r4 with a 3060 coming though
I actually JUST received this model yesterday! Surprisingly, it is AMAZING. Dell REALLY did an amazing job with their cooling system with this variant! Mine is the fully loaded i9 3080 variant and if you don’t mind fan noise, you can play games that are CPU/GPU intensive without getting too hot! I’m not good at RUclips videos so I don’t think I’d be good at reviewing my model but it’s great!
@@MashITTech I have Alienware I9 10th Gen RTX 3080. 32 Gb RAM. I TB SS. All come from Dell. Nothing changed You can borrow mine to do some experiments :D Let me know if you are interested. I live in Oldham/Manchester
I've been a silent follower of your channel for a bit and I really enjoy watching your vids...always very informative. Keep up the good work mate. Ok so m really considering pulling the trigger on the m15r4 but sadly in my region I don't get the luxury of choosing a custom config...m stuck with 300hz and since r4 just released here this week I don't have the patience to wait for the r5 with the advanced optimus panel which will release God knows when. So here's what I wanted to pick abit of your brain on, I've watched a vid about this guy uninstalling the OC controls inorder to squeeze the most of his battery. And somehow he gets about 4 to 5 hours with his r3. Sounded too good to be true. Could u confirm this? I mean if it works I wouldn't mind losing the the ability to control the fans manually or set custom profiles...and yes there's no other laptop I'd rather buy. If I lose on battery life then so be it. But I thot id try.
Hello mate, thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoy the videos. With regards to the battery tweak let me look into it as I feel it is a bit far fetched. I can’t see how uninstalling AWCC will help with battery as it isn’t a battery hog, its the fact that you always have the nvidia gpu on, you would probably have similar luck locking the CPU right down in throttle stop. I will investigate further and get back to you. It is a pity you don’t have a lot of choice, but the UK was the same when it first launched which is why I got the 300hz and a terrible raid array (the 300hz panel is beautiful though).
Awesome video. Nicely detailed. I had an m15 r3 and returned it because the i9 just got really hot on just about everything. I want to pick up the m15 r5 ryzen addition and wondering if they are working on the cooling of that as well. What's the difference in cooling systems on the m17? I didn't know there was. Btw gotta a like and new subscriber. You're work is great.
Hi Corey, thanks for the sub :) I haven't seen the cooling solution on the m15r5 yet but will order one the second they are released. Hoping for good things as the ryzen is a beast of a cpu and I love the m15/m17 series. The m17 has a much larger cooling solution and fans purely because it is a larger laptop (I open them both up side by side in my recent m15 vs m17 comparison) and therefore cools the CPU much more effectively at the expense of portability.
@@MashITTech awesome and you are most welcome. I was going to order the m15 r5 ryzen edition but from reviews of the ryzen it still get quite hot under load but could be better on the 17 as I saw in your videos. I think I'll wait for the 17 inch version if they make it. I agree with you on the m15 keyboard layout as well. I hope I have the option of a non cherry mechanical keyboard as I loved the keyboard on the r3/4 models. I don't game with mouse and keyboard but I type alot and I know the mechanical will be too loud for public use.
Hello, thank you so much for the information! I just discovered your channel and I'm subscribing for sure! I'm considering the upcoming Lenovo Legion 5 pro or the Alienware m15 r5 for gaming/portability/programming. I know both of these laptops are really new and the alienware r5 hasn't been released (yet) but which laptop would you recommend? One of the cons I've always heard about alienware m series laptops is the low battery life from running discrete graphics only from high refresh rates. I'd really appreciate your input and hope you get to review the m15 r5 😊 please keep it up!
Hi Royce, I have the legion 5 pro on order (but they are on a long lead time due to the shortages) and will also order the m15 r5 on release day. I plan on doing a comparison when they arrive. I have the legion 5 with 4800h and 2060 and it has great battery so fingers crossed both these models will have too due to the efficient ryzen cpus
@@MashITTech thanks for the response! I do value the long battery life as a student on the go. Most gaming laptop manufacturers tend to favor power versus functionality so I hope the R5 will offer a better battery life. Looking forward to your review! Much appreciated!!
Man, I've seen all your videos about m15 and m17 and I think that you are the right person to ask this question: what do you think about the new ryzen version? Do you think they are comparable or one is better than the other? I think the screen in the ryzen version is a lot better but the only option is a RTX 3070, so I don't really know... Hopefully you will read this comment in this "old" video and give me the answer I am looking for.
Hello mate, I cannot give you a definitive answer yet as we are still waiting for our 3060 and 3070 ryzen versions to arrive (should be next week). But I will say that it looks like they have cut a few costs vs the r4 which is a shame and something I will cover in the review. But the screen looks like a great option at last. Also the r5 seems to have a lower TGP than the r4 but again I will confirm this when I have my hands on them 👍
@@MashITTech this is a great news for me! I'll wait that video then, because I want to buy a new laptop and I would like to buy one of those two, because my last experience with the Asus was awful. Hopefully, alienware will not disappoint me!
Nope no reason as I didn’t want to make it too much for people starting out tweaking machines. The undervolt makes the biggest difference so wanted to concentrate on that 👍
You must have the R3 if you have a 2080 or did you mean 3080? if you have an R3 everything except for TCC works. If you have an R4 then all these tweaks are good for you :)
The omen is also a good choice and is a lot cheaper but the build quality is not as good and I am pretty sure they use a 3070 with a lower tgp. I reviewed the previous version with 4800h and 2060 and it was a good laptop but personally I would choose the alienware
Incredible video! Thanks! And my laptop is the 3070 version with 300hz screen. I just wonder if it’s normal the fans often kick in even when I just doing some web thing.(Even I set it on the quiet mode) BTW I do the undervote setting exactly like you said.
Have you created a quiet profile with throttlestop? When just surfing the web I lower all the turbo boost clocks and it really lowers the temps and also increases battery
@@MashITTech Just bought with an awesome deal on the i9/3080 for $2150 with a additional discount. Will these tweaks help or do you believe this laptop will be so hot to eventually damage components as I have time to cancel this order?
What software do you use to see the cpu & gpu temperature and fps? Demanding games like cyberpunk seem to force the laptop to run at 100c even at full fan speed so this undervolt is definitely a must. Also, the noise factor can be managed with a headphone quite well.
There was a couple of videos that go with this video to help with undervolting and gpu stats. Here is the video where I explain how to show the stats on the game screen: ruclips.net/video/TOicQR5g7zU/видео.html
I was wondering if you ever utilize the other TS profiles, or do you typically just stick to the gaming and performance profile options? I noticed in the video you were utilizing the gaming preset to also show your multipliers, but was curious if you ever used the other profile options
Hi Matt, yes I use them all the time. I did make a small reference to it but I didn’t want to make the video too long. I use my gaming settings when ever gaming, I have one set even lower for when I am surfing or playing old games with little to no noise and finally I set one at 2.3ghz that I use purely for downloading 👍
@@MashITTech thank you! I’ve watched all your previous videos on the m15r4 (Mine is arriving in 2 weeks), so I assumed you used the same profile layouts as the ones you showed in your previous undervolting vid.
Nice video tutorials! I learned a lot. And decided to do the gpu and cpu overclock and undervolt. I got cpu temps below 85 reliably with 110+ fps on warzone before I was at 70 to 85fps. -110mv core and cach. GPU overclocked to: +220 core and +90 mem cache Computer runs cooler then I even expected and my performance is improved from stock. Also I still run the default cores from thermal throttle.
We don't have an m17r4 in the office at the moment but I have another on the way with cherry mechanical keyboard. When it arrives I will run these tweaks and compare
It isn't a heating problem, Dell just lets the CPU run at max watts! most other manufacturers limit the watts to the CPU. This means it performs better than other laptops at the cost of running hotter. A good undervolt and a bit of tweaking means you still get the performance but a cooler temps
@@MashITTech ok.. I'm about to complete the purchasing but one last question please: what is the difference between the keyboard with 4 zones RGB light and the one with RGB light per key? Thank you a lot! Now i'm watching the video on the m15 vs m17
The 4 zones allows you to only change colour of each of the zones, where as the per key allows you to change each keys colour individually. In U.K. they are same price so get the per key 👍
Can you make a similar video for the M15 R4 RTX 3080 or would it even be different settings? The GPU has the same TGP as the RTX 3070 and the CPU is a much better one with the i9-10980HK so I would assume the under volting and GPU overclocking would be quite different. I guess you could overclock the i9 CPU as well.
Just in case you were not aware the m15 and 3080 config does not have 16gb of vram as the m17 therefore the value from 3070 to 3080 is even further apart then average, plus the m15 is getting this hot because of the 8 core i7 at full watts. The i9 is higher watts and boost meaning more heat and more of an under volt needed to compensate.
Thanks for the review. Which one do you recommend in terms of stability (thermal, etc.) and reliable performance between m15 r4-10870h-3070 and m15 r5-5800h-3070? I heard the cooling system on r5 is not better than R4.
Cooling system is better on R4 and the GPU has higher TGP but the ryzen is more powerful on the r5! If you can get a good deal on the r4 it would probably be better for gaming but the r5 has much better batter and QHD screen option
@@MashITTech so, if I follow your m15 r5 tweaking video, temperature cooling issue will not be a big concern, right? I was wondering about the low tgp of r5's 3070, and it seems like that could be not suitable (mismatch) with gaming when it compares to r4 3070.
As with all Alienware's a bit of tweaking goes a long way as Dell always lets them run hot. The low TGP 3070 is a bit of a shame after the 140w on the r4 which is why I would pick the r4 if I wanted it purely for gaming. Unless you have them side by side though I think you will still be impressed with the r5 3070 performance
Great video, I was wondering if doing this drops frames, last time I tried to undervolt my cpu I couldn’t get more than 60 and it was always dropping frames and making my games stutter
@@MashITTech damn, almost 11,000 without even max fans, that's impressive. I'm thinking of buying the m15 but that soldered ram worries me. Do you think 16gb could last maybe 4 years? I'd mostly just play games on it
yes I am sure it will! 16gb has been pretty much teh standard for a long time and I don't see it changing for quite a while. I still use 16gb on gaming machines, I will only upgrade work machines to more
@@MashITTech heat to hear! I got 2 more questions if you don't mind me asking. Do the fans tend to spin up on idle? Like just watching RUclips and sorts, it's one of my biggest pet peeves on laptops. The other is that how good of a deal do you think an m15, 3070, and 512gb SSD, is for $1800 USD? I don't think it's amazing but pretty good considering how things are in the world right now.
If you leave the system as it comes out of the box it will spin up. If you change it to quiet mode in command centre and tweak the CPU like in my guides you can keep it pretty much silent :)
Also, it seems based on this video that you utilize TCC, undervolting/multipliers and GPU overclocking simultaneously? With the undervolting/multipliers do you still require TCC?
In this video I did use all the tweaks to create what I feel is an optimal system. If you undervolt and adjust multipliers you don't need to use TCC but I like having that at 90c in case the temps do get high (ie using balanced profile allows the system to run quietly at the expense of temps). Dell seem to be happy with the system sitting at 95-100c in balanced mode for some reason
Do you use the same voltage offset amounts on each throttlestop profile (performance, game, internet, battery)? Or do you have different offset voltages on each profile?
So if I'm gaming a lot all day, is 90°C a good average to look for, or would lower be better? How will 90°C affect it in the long run, is that 10°c difference good enough to not fry it internally and allow my laptop to last me more years? And should I tweak it more in the future? Also thank you for this video, mine will be coming very soon and I'm trying to learn a lot about it to keep it performing best.
For me, 90 is the hottest I want to be hitting. Although laptops will be fine up to 100c I am not comfortable with that hence me tweaking it down to 90c. That said lower is definitely better and you can tweak to your liking, it is finding the balance of best performance for your games/apps and temps/fan noise. Now my testing was done on the default profile, if noise doesn't bother you, put it in performance mode and it will be louder but even cooler! Hope this helps but ask away if you have more questions 😀👍
@@MashITTech hey! Another question for you, if you get around to it. Was wondering if GPU tempature would ever be a problem or if I should consider it being colder, or if getting more performance and a little more heat on the GPU is okay?
Hey man, I just got my M15 R4 3060 delivered and I had a few questions. My thermals have been really stable when gaming even for prolonged periods of time and haven't climbed above 80C on both the cpu and GPU with fans on balanced. Would It still be beneficial to do this?
Hi there, wow the 3060 must run much cooler with those temps! Still waiting for mine to arrive! No, if you get 80s you don’t need to at all. That said, it will only improve your performance and temps if you do. Maybe one day when you are bored it might be something to tinker with 👍
@@MashITTech great to hear. On another note, I've recently begun mining to see what type of MH rate I can get to, and I've been cruising at around 40-42MH ish. I take it undervolting and overclocking will increase my mining performance as well? Thanks for taking the time to reply I really appreciate the knowledge and I'm grateful for the entertainment. Stay well.and have a wonderful day! Also, is it better to overclock with afterburner vs AWCC
Firstly always use afterburner the command centre is rubbish in comparison. Secondly for mining you need to undervolt the core at say 1500mhz and lowest voltage and massively overclock the ram to say +500 this should give you the best hash rate and lowest power draw 👍 lastly make sure you use the afterburner beta not latest as the latest version doesn’t allow undervolt
R6 has the newer cpu, socketed ram and a better screen option with the qhd panel but everything else is better on r4! Build quality, keyboard, speaker and ports 👍
H35 is for low end gaming machines, and alienware won't use it. But alienware will probably unveil new models with intel 11th gen 6 and 8 core in the second half of may. My suggestion is to wait if you can.
I recently purchase the same m15. I’m super happy with it except the Alienware Command Center doesn’t always work for me. The overclock and thermal setting sometimes have an endless loading wheel. Have you had a problem with this?
I had that on the r3 but no problems with either of my m15 or m17 r4. It usually does that when it is trying to download an update. I will see if I can find a solution for you.
I realized that the older alienware m15 r2 doesn't actually allow undervolting in the newest bios. I find it weird that they would remove a feature like that in a bios update. Should i be worried that the r4 or the upcoming r6 series would lose the ability to undervolt?
just curious if you need 120 fps for warzone? With AC Origins, Arma 3, and train sim, I get a fluid, stutter free 60 fps (ok for me) with the tweaks on this machine with temps in the 60s (with the GPU in particular in the 60's, both I and the machine seem to feel a lot more comfortable)
If I am honest, I would rather a fast panel (I mean fast response not just fast refresh rate) with stable FPS than just aiming for high refresh rate. therefore if the panel is good I can still game at 60hz. That said I do prefer 90+ for games like Warzone.
What overclock and undervolt settings do you recommend for the m17 i9 rtx 3080? Do u recommend same settings as the ones in your videos (will be doing a lot of 3d rendering and modeling)
Yes, start with my settings and see how you get on. As with all silicon every chip is different which is why we need to test heavily so you may got slightly more or les than me.
Alienware M15 R4 i9 3080 (FHD) or X15 i9 3070 (QHD) . Which one is a better buy? (exclude money difference) I get mixed answers from everyone . Could you please consider comparing battery life, performance, portability and thermals and let me know . Thanks !!
Hello Mash IT, please can you share a guide specifically on how to undervolt and overclock the alienware m15 r4 with RTX 3060? I just got mine and saw the 3 videos, in this one I found a comment where you said you were going to receive an M4 3TX 3060.... please please!!! It seems like most of the people in youtube got higher specs but i believe mine has something else to "exploit". Thanks a lot, please even a comment will be helpful on approx values on how to oc, uv.!
Hello mate, we did order a 3060 version but after 3 months of waiting for it we gave up and cancelled the order! You can still use my m15 guides in exactly the same way as my 3070 version and it will work the same. The only difference will be the gpu may clock slightly differently but I can help you with that, message me on Instagram if you need help 👍
You can use this for the m17 too. The m17 runs much cooler than the m15 but making it even cooler certainly won’t hurt 😀 and the wait is painful! I am currently waiting for them to make the mech keyboard model!
@@MashITTech same! I got the cherry as well. So, once I put the settings into both software can I save them completely? Or do I have to put those settings into the software each time I power up, reboot or wake up the laptop? I just remember you saying in the previous video and you were really serious about it that you must make sure the laptop can handle the settings before you click to save it permanently. Unless you change them again I mean.
In afterburner once you are happy with your overclock you save it as a profile and click the apple on start up (I detail it in the guide so hopefully you can follow) it will apply even after rebooting. On throttlestop once you are happy that your undervolt is completely stable you select the last save option. You will still need to start throttlestop after a reboot then the settings will return (there is a way to automate starting throttlestop too but I will make a guide on that)
@@MashITTech The dlss was giving it the effect. I love the video I did the tweaks and laptop runs amazing. I check every day to make sure you didnt find better settings haha
Yes the 17" has much better temps so there wasn't the same need for this video. That said, it will still lower the temps more so worth doing. I did a video focusing on the m17 performance.
Hey can u please answer this one question plz..... Does this laptop overheat??? Thats my only question about this laptop as I use it in stock settings and not undervolt it ...so plz
Hi, it will run fine at stock settings. It is not overheating, it is just that Dell let it run hotter than most other laptops before throttling it back (most other laptops cap the CPU as an example Razer cap it at 35w as opposed to Dells 106w!!) also if you are using headphones then change the profile to performance and although louder it cools much better
@@MashITTech thanks for the reply as many says it runs hotter....I want to use this laptop for min of 6 years...will it do ?? As I used my old laptop for 9 years???
Wait I just bought this product and I did the same settings for undervolting and you said it was stable so could I save them or is that too dangerous ?
Test it on both cpu tests and some gaming tests, if it works fine then save it. Every CPU is different so my settings may not work for you (but probably will)
I have this same laptop in the same predicament as you.. can I just do the TTC to get to better temperatures.. I use full power all the time and get hot temps just looking for a cooler gameplay lol
Put it on a tcc of 15 and it will keep temps below 85c and make it much cooler. Also make sure you undervolt with throttlestop as per my guide, that also makes a massive difference
which do you think is better the , M17 R4 with 3070 and 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10870H or the M15 R5 with 3070 and AMD Ryzen R9 5900HX?I do simulations of building loads plus rendering walkthroughs and perspectives of buildings
got a question are you supposed to update the bios every time there is an update for it because on main there is one but for some reason, it's stuck at loading and doesn't update, and I tried lots of times, but for windows and dell updates, everything is fain.
My advice would be only update the BIOS of you have a problem with your current BIOS or the new BiOS offers a feature you need. Once I get a bios I am happy with I normally leave it
hey there , i have a alienware m15 r1 and i not able to undervolt it because to unlock voltage i am not able to tick it , is there something that i need to enable in the bois , pls help me
Just preordered the m15 with rtx 3060 and 144hz screen, seems to be enough and has Gsync, not much difference with the 300hz one right? Also I got the new cherry switches, hopefully theyre good
Nice! We have a similar spec on order: m17r4 144hz and 3060 with the cherry mech keyboard. Looking forward to seeing how the 3060 does against the 3070

I just got _Alien.Ware m15 R5 15.6" FHD 360Hz Gaming Laptop PC, Ryzen 9 5900HX, Up to 4.6GHz (Beat Intel i9), GeForce RTX 3070, 32GB RAM 1TB PCIe SSD, WiFi HDM do i need to change the CPU settings just incase? Or do u think they updated that cpu heating issue?
I have a video on that, it’s old but still relevant: Alienware M15 R5 Deep Dive - Tweaking, Upgrading and Battery Life ruclips.net/video/ZUv0C_FWQHU/видео.html as far as I am aware, dell haven't improved the thermals since release
Not as far as I am aware. Dell changed the BIOS to a more modern GUI on the r6 and there is no option to switch. Why do you want to change it to the older style? It has the same functionality
Damn.. My m17 left fan is making weird noise.... I tested the diagnostics and said no problem... What is the problem.. Its not really loud but I can hear it while I'm playing....
And it’s only the left? Contact alienware support on the website, explain the problem and explain that it’s only one fan, I am sure they will send an engineer with a replacement
My m17r4 came with some damages and i will be getting another one for free.. any idees on how i can get all the data from the ‘old’ m17r4 to the new m17r4. Or should i just take out the r’two ssd in raid and swap them with the new one since it is exactly the same computer... Or save on an external hard drive ? Any suggestions ?
Congrats on 5K! You seem to be in real love with Alienware machines.
So glad it helped 😃 but I am jealous our mech keyboard order (ordered on release day) still hasn’t even gone into manufacturing
can i ask you if it possible to use the same tweaks for the i9 version of the m15 r4 ?
I've had my M15R4 for about a month now and just stumbled across these videos. Incredibly helpful and well executed, this definitely helps ease my thermal paranoia. XD
How are you liking the laptop ?
Thank you so much! It went from 100 to around 85 degrees. Lovely work there
Glad it helped! 👍
Another great video. Thanks again for helping me with the undervolt for my m17 r3. I got 90-95c now but hoping with a few more tweaks I can get 85-90. All about that longevity!
No problem, glad you found it useful. If you have any questions I am always here 👍
Great buddy thanks. I think you mentioned previously that you would be possibly doing a video on custom fan settings? If not I was just fantasising that such a video exists to make my laptop even cooler!!
Yep, that's on the list :)
Thank you for this quick & thorough guide. I've been struggling with this laptop since I got it. I love everything about it but the thermals. They're honestly atrocious. These steps 110% improved overall cooling and reduced the amount of thermal throttling I kept hitting. I smashed that sub button for sure.
thank you mate, glad it helped!
Do you play dcs world on your Ware
My laptop is on the way. I plan to do these tweaks, thanks for the videos!
Glad to be able to help. Ask away if you have any questions 👍
New to the gaming laptop space. Learned A TON from watching this (and other vids from you). THANK YOU!
So glad you enjoy them! Thanks for your support 😀👍
Really enjoying all these alienware videos. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, glad you are enjoying them

haha thank you 😊
Super helpful video. My Alienware m15 r4 is coming in this Friday. Will definitely undervolt and maybe put thermal paste.

@@MashITTech im going to install a 500 gb ssd pcie m.2230/2280. Do u recommend putting a heatsink?.
Just got a score of 11,156 on timespy with an i7 and RTX 3070 on my M15 R4 and the cpu never goes past 90 degrees, thank you so much man! If I could subscribe more than once I definitely would in a heart beat!
That is an amazing score! Well done mate, I am so pleased for you 😃👍
Hey could you give me a rundown of how you got those numbers?
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes hopefully soon we will get some new cpu options and I will make sure to order some in!

so helpful. ty. I dont mind can noise, so I'll use these settings on max mode. can't wait!
Glad it’s useful. Yeah if you have headphones on noise isn’t an issue then max or performance mode gives much better temps 👍
@@MashITTech Well, it might still be an issue for anyone who is in the same room as you while you play :)

Should I expect higher temperature from this display?
not really, all version will try and pump as many frames out as possible regardless of your screen choice
@@MashITTech just out the box less battery life and a good picture? I'm Not sure how it effects fps..?
The 300hz doesn’t affect FPS. It’s 1080p so you will get good FPS if you get this or if you get the 144hz panel. The advantage to the 300hz is the panel is much faster and more responsive so you feel more connected especially if playing a fast paced FPS. The other advantage of the 300hz is it is connected directly to the rtx card so you get much more stable FPS and less bugs than an Optimus laptop at the expense of battery life
Love your videos! I'm guessing it absolutely makes sense to do all the tweaks on the X15 too ? Is the process pretty much the same? Cheers
Glad you found it useful 👍 and yes all the tweaks also work on the x15 too
Hope you will compare head-to-head the new Ryzen M15 R5's with these R4 intel versions. The rtx 3070 R5 versions are now available on dell site.
I sure will be but it’s still not on dell U.K. I was told it was today but I keep checking and nothing yet 😭
@@MashITTech they are on the US Dell site. I think during their Discord chat they said it might be June for Europe.
It better not be! They told me may 4th for U.K.! If it is June then I won’t even bother ordering as every man and their dog will already own it 😂
@@MashITTech Dell mentioned Europe's later date specifically on Discord; but they may have meant to say "EU" narrowly rather.
Thankyou for the info
I did everything except overclock the GPU and it’s running well.
hope u cover about g sync & advanced optimus on next video...
My model didn’t have that. We have had a 144Hz model with advanced Optimus and gsync and cherry mech keyboard on order since the release day of the mechanical keyboard and it still hasn’t shipped 😭 as soon as it arrives we will cover it
@@MashITTech But can you plug the m15 with display port on an external monitor to enable gsync?

Thanks mate...really appreciate it. Will wait for your reply.
Have a good day.cheers
Good Information Thanks!
Hi Corey, thanks for the sub :)
I haven't seen the cooling solution on the m15r5 yet but will order one the second they are released.

Well, as soon as they come in I will put up a first impressions then follow up with an in depth review :)
Great vid ! I noticed you didn’t use the speed shift option on TS. Any reason why? Make a difference?
Nope no reason as I didn’t want to make it too much for people starting out tweaking machines. The undervolt makes the biggest difference so wanted to concentrate on that 👍
Thanks for the videos, I just bought a m15 r4 rtx 2080. Would everything you’ve done in those video apply?
You must have the R3 if you have a 2080 or did you mean 3080? if you have an R3 everything except for TCC works. If you have an R4 then all these tweaks are good for you :)
@@MashITTech Sorry, typo there. I've got the R4 with the RTX 3080* on the way :)
Hello! Wonderful review but om having trouble deciding on this laptop or the new HP omen 15 that has the 3070. What would you recommend?
The omen is also a good choice and is a lot cheaper but the build quality is not as good and I am pretty sure they use a 3070 with a lower tgp.
I reviewed the previous version with 4800h and 2060 and it was a good laptop but personally I would choose the alienware
Fan noise is a no-go after m1 😉😁
Haha true, I am actually working on the m1 gaming video at the moment, the silence is bliss
@@MashITTech Yes, I set them on 40 38 and so on. Should I go even lower? What’s your suggestion?
Yes definitely if just for browsing. Add me to Instagram and I can send you a photo of mine
@@MashITTech Ok! Thanks!
Hey! love this vid, just wondering if I should change anything with the i9 and the 3080?
I wouldn't get the i9 over the i7 unless you get a really good deal. The i9 runs really hot.
Can i git a link for that desktop background?
is it possible to use the same sittings for the i9 version or is it bad?
Do you have to open and run throttle stop every time you turn on your computer or is there a way to have it come on whenever the pc boots up
Nice video tutorials! I learned a lot. And decided to do the gpu and cpu overclock and undervolt.
I got cpu temps below 85 reliably with 110+ fps on warzone before I was at 70 to 85fps. -110mv core and cach.
GPU overclocked to: +220 core and +90 mem cache
Computer runs cooler then I even expected and my performance is improved from stock.
Also I still run the default cores from thermal throttle.
Nicely done! It is always worth spending a few minutes tweaking these gaming laptops, it makes all the difference for long term use :)
Good work
Thank you 😊
I would love to see what the same settings would do to the m17r4...
We don't have an m17r4 in the office at the moment but I have another on the way with cherry mechanical keyboard. When it arrives I will run these tweaks and compare
@@MashITTech that would be great thank you
What specs on the one arriving ?
I decided on 144hz with 3060 to see how much performance differs to the 3070. Want to get a 3080 at some point but I have blown my monthly budget
Would you advise to buy that even for that thermal problem?
With undervolt cpu yes
@@MashITTech also in Italy ;) Thank you!
Doing this correctly will increase your FPS not drop them :)
I have question regarding the speed shift epp. When you were in the FIVR tab your speed shift epp was on 0 while mine it's at 84. Is that good or bad?
Was the time spy benchmark done at max fans?
No balanced 👍
Hi what you think Alienware M15 R4 i7-10870H RTX 3060 TGP or TDP? may be 115W + 10W ? Thank you
I would love to be able to tell you but I have been waiting 6 weeks for dell to deliver my 3060 model! As soon as it arrives I will update you
@@MashITTech yeah I'm curious about this as well, I'm excited to here about it when ever it does arrive!
@@MashITTech thank you. Yes I'm baffled at Dells thought behind this...
Do you use the same voltage offset amounts on each throttlestop profile (performance, game, internet, battery)? Or do you have different offset voltages on each profile?
I use the same throughout 👍
@@MashITTech thank you so much! I'll probably be using performance mods more often than not and I can adjust the TCC I assume if I wanted it cooler
@@MashITTech dude, thank you so much. I'll try this asap. I was wondering why my hash rates only went up by 1 while overclocking lol
Which one is better from your point of view the r4 or R6?
R6 has the newer cpu, socketed ram and a better screen option with the qhd panel but everything else is better on r4! Build quality, keyboard, speaker and ports 👍
@@MashITTech Thank you, Dave.
Hi,do you think alienware will use the new intel cpu(such as H35 series)this year?Should we wait it or get the R4 version? Thanks.
H35 is for low end gaming machines, and alienware won't use it. But alienware will probably unveil new models with intel 11th gen 6 and 8 core in the second half of may. My suggestion is to wait if you can.
Spot on Carl. But I expect Alienware will be a little behind other manufacturers as they are always a bit slower with new releases
Thank you!!!
@@MashITTech I uninstalled and reinstalled the ACC and it seems to be working so far. Thanks for all the great content.
I realized that the older alienware m15 r2 doesn't actually allow undervolting in the newest bios. I find it weird that they would remove a feature like that in a bios update. Should i be worried that the r4 or the upcoming r6 series would lose the ability to undervolt?
I've some research and learned about an exploit called plundervolt. So they probably removed the feature due to this security concern.
And they haven't fixed the issue yet on the older 9th gen intel, so they didn't bring undervolting back.
Oh wow, that is such a shame! I am surprised they allowed us to undervolt this range of laptops, most other companies have locked it out too
just curious if you need 120 fps for warzone?
When Alienware will come with Ryzen CPUs would you be able to undervolt it?
Not sure yet. There are a few tools for Ryzen processors so I will attempt it when they finally get around to release it 😀
Coming out April 20
Alienware M15 R4 i9 3080 (FHD) or X15 i9 3070 (QHD) .
Which one is a better buy? (exclude money difference)
I get mixed answers from everyone .
Could you please consider comparing battery life, performance, portability and thermals and let me know .
Thanks !!
I actually have the X15 3070 QHD on order so will be able to answer you properly soon but from my use the the r4 and base X15 I would say the X15
Does Quiet mode also impacts the gpu wattage btw? For example instead of 130w it uses 80w? Or does it only impact the cpu wattage?
Nope. Even on quiet mode you get 140w. Only cpu is affected 👍
Apparently it doesn't have a Mux switch. Would it be a problem?
Will you be doing one for the m17? Mine went into production on the 24th and it's still at that stage. Getting antsy.
You will still need to start throttlestop after a reboot then the settings will return (there is a way to automate starting throttlestop too but I will make a guide on that)
@@MashITTech awesome! Will do! Looking forward to the next vids on these!
Just dropping a gameplay video now as a lot of people have asked for it 👍
Please do the omen 15 with the rtx 3070 and i7 10750h plz
As soon as it is available I will order it
It is available on bestbuy
In U.K.?
Yes it is available
Ok brilliant, I will go and take a look
Hey m8 another question if you don't mind, what gpu driver are u using ? The 465.89? Or the 461.66?
I seen that u were using 457 65 for this video, have u tried with newer versions?
I used the latest from Dells website for review and testing but have also used later drivers with no problems and performance was almost identical
I just got the m15 r4 was wondering if you would know why ground loot and boxes on warzone look real fuzzy?
Check in the settings and make sure you are not downscaled. Make sure resolution and scaling is 100% and 1080p
@@MashITTech The dlss was giving it the effect. I love the video I did the tweaks and laptop runs amazing. I check every day to make sure you didnt find better settings haha
Is 17" version much better at temps? No video for M17 R4?
Every CPU is different so my settings may not work for you (but probably will)
@@MashITTech Just got a m15 R4 but it has windows 11. Does throttlestop work with windows 11? I've read some reports of it not working.
@@x47l43 the latest version of throttle stop worked fine for me with windows 11 👍
@@MashITTech thanks so much
IS TCC settings only available on the R4s for now??
Yes! I will nag alienware to see if they can apply it to r3 and area 51m
@@MashITTech Thank you,
It's a really good & easy setting, I hope they add it soon ..
Hi There! would this apply to the 3060 as well?
It sure would
Plz Do this for the Scar Strix Series
Give me time 👍 I can only afford to buy a couple of laptops a months as we are a really
Small channel 😀
Will the MSI Afterburner overclock settings also apply to an RTX 3060 model of the M15 R4?
Yes they will
which do you think is better the , M17 R4 with 3070 and 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10870H or the M15 R5 with 3070 and AMD Ryzen R9 5900HX?I do simulations of building loads plus rendering walkthroughs and perspectives of buildings
Thats a tough one but I would probably choose the m17r4 for the higher 3070 TGP, larger screen and more premium design
@@MashITTech thanks, its almost the same price
got a question are you supposed to update the bios every time there is an update for it because on main there is one but for some reason, it's stuck at loading and doesn't update, and I tried lots of times, but for windows and dell updates, everything is fain.
My advice would be only update the BIOS of you have a problem with your current BIOS or the new BiOS offers a feature you need. Once I get a bios I am happy with I normally leave it
can i update bios and install windows update after saving the voltage in Throttlestop
You sure can but personally when I update bios I make sure all apps are closed including throttlestop
hey there , i have a alienware m15 r1 and i not able to undervolt it because to unlock voltage i am not able to tick it , is there something that i need to enable in the bois , pls help me
Dell locked it on on the older generations. I will look but I don’t think there is any way around it
Would any of this apply to the m15 r3 with the 2070 super?
Yes all except the TCC offset.
@@MashITTech would you recommend using the tcc offset for the 107050h?
They haven’t added tcc to the r3 as far as I am
Aware
Would this help with the i9 version?
It sure would. Use my settings as a guide
Looking forward to seeing how the 3060 does against the 3070
@@MashITTech very nice, I wanted the m17 but it is not available yet here at the moment, and I got a 15% off with the m15. Hopefully the 144hz is smooth without ghosting and the cherry mx is a good keyboard
If they use the same panels as last years you will be good, the 144hz in the r3 was a great panel
@@MashITTech that sounds promising! I was in doubt about the keyboard, heard the normal keyboard is already good, I prefer mechanical keys but these are ultra low so I wonder how its gonna play out.
The normal keyboard is great but I am hoping so will the mech keyboard. I am a big fan of mechs and also cherry have spent a long time working on it! As soon as it arrives I will post a video 👍
I have a video on that, it’s old but still relevant: Alienware M15 R5 Deep Dive - Tweaking, Upgrading and Battery Life
ruclips.net/video/ZUv0C_FWQHU/видео.html as far as I am aware, dell haven't improved the thermals since release
In my M15 R6 the BIOS style is different. Is there any way to reach this old-style Bios ?
Not as far as I am aware. Dell changed the BIOS to a more modern GUI on the r6 and there is no option to switch. Why do you want to change it to the older style? It has the same functionality
Does throttlestop works on Windows 11?
I just received a new blade 15 with windows 11 and throttlestop still works perfectly. Not upgrading my alienware to windows 11 as I still prefer 10
@@MashITTech Thanks, I received the m15 R4 with windows 11 and applied all of these tweaks and it worked perfectly.
Any idea about the TDP for rtx 3060 m15 r4 ? Just ordered :)
Got a 3060 m17 on the way, will let you know as soon as it arrives
Damn.. My m17 left fan is making weird noise.... I tested the diagnostics and said no problem...
What is the problem..
Its not really loud but I can hear it while I'm playing....
Can you describe how it sounds?
@@MashITTech its like quite sssssssss sound.. I can hear it while I'm playing...
Its soo annoying....
And it’s only the left?
Contact alienware support on the website, explain the problem and explain that it’s only one fan, I am sure they will send an engineer with a replacement
@@MashITTech how? I bought it from America and my grandmother came to saudi arabia with the laptop..
Well Dell seem to have a Saudi branch, they should still support you. I pretty sure the premium warranty is worldwide
Why not over clock and undervolt using Alienware command centre?
You sure can but you have a lot more options with throttlestop and afterburner
will a separate 360hz monitor boost the fps?
Probably not, if you are not using Optimus there won’t be any big FPS improvements to be made just by using an external
Do you think all your tweak numbers will work on a Alienware M15 R4 with i9 RTX 3080 GPU?
Yes it will 👍
My m17r4 came with some damages and i will be getting another one for free.. any idees on how i can get all the data from the ‘old’ m17r4 to the new m17r4. Or should i just take out the r’two ssd in raid and swap them with the new one since it is exactly the same computer... Or save on an external hard drive ? Any suggestions ?
I would back it up to an internal hard drive then try and move the ssds. It may not work being that you are moving a raid array
got an Intel i7-11800H. What options do I have since throttlestop is mostly greyed out? can't adjust voltages
on what model? it is unlocked on the X15 and X17
I am confused! the m15r4 does not have the 11800h, do you mean m15r6?
@@MashITTech r6 sorry
microcenter is where i bought if that helps
Ah i am sorry to say dell locked the undwrvolting out on this laptop! It’s a real shame as intel laptops really benefit from undervolting

All except the TCC tweak 👍
