- One of the best days I've ever had in all my flying and filming at different places around the world was by far traveling with my good friend @AlexPraglowskiAviation up to Red Deer Regional Airport where we got the chance to visit the Buffalo Airways and even meet the legend Buffalo Joe Mcbryan of Ice Pilots (which I have been binge watching again this week).
A massive thanks to the airport and especially Zac who gave us his time on what was truly a wet and miserable day.
Red Deer Airport is home to the largest collection of Lockheed Electras anywhere in the world. With the type first flying in 1957 before being introduced into passenger service in 1959 with Eastern Airlines, only 170 of the type were built, with many still soldiering on as freighters or fire-fighting aircraft, particularly in Canada. It was a joy to see a few of these birds still alive and well.

Fascinating video of Buffalo Airways Red Deer. (Sorry this is long winded). Back in mid 2022 a friend of mine, who is an avid part time aviation photographer based in the USA, was commissioned to produce a photo/written article by a Japanese Aviation Magazine, “Airline”, on Buffalo Airways, Yellowknife. He completed his “mission” & his article was published (I think) in Nov 22? I received a “.pdf” version of the article, sadly apart from the images, it is written in Japanese… not one of my language skills… I was fortunate to see about 500 plus images on a “for my eyes only” basis of his photo shoot. Incidentally he & his wife were at NCL late August 23 where we spent two half day sessions over a weekend capturing misc aircraft arrival/departures. He seemed quite happy with what he saw.
Thank so much for watching. It is an amazing place and the folks are so friendly and accomodating. Pleased your friend had such a good time.
The alberta canadairs are cl415s not cl215s
Great info thankyou.
