Something about Ada's new VA, I feel like this is less of her fault and more of a voice director's fault kind of scenario considering her voice is fine as is, it just felt emotionless (more so than normal Ada or when compared to the RE2R Ada) either way it sucks that she and she alone got flak for it, I rarely see anybody point out "oh maybe it was a problem with production or oh maybe she wasn't directed well enough for the role" and instead everybody who played RE4R took to social media and harassed the shit out of her
well i do agree it's mostly the the director fault but the VA just making thing worse for herself in that situation by taking it to twitter calling people racist to those who criticize her. @coldfrost791 yea. It's a bad situation. I haven't played the game but the clips I've seen don't make it look so good. I think at the end of the day, people are intuitive enough to smell a rat. The voice actress is a diversity hire.
This felt like a apology for how lame Shadows of Rose was...and that crap was $20! And its plain embarrasing how a 10 bucks DLC campaign is longer and has more content and care put into it than REmake 3. Anyway, between this, the free update to The Mercenaries, and Leon having his RE2 costume, this game is on par with the original...and this is coming from someone who considers the OG the best videogame ever made.
@@onceyougozach2607 His opinion seems pretty nuanced here, saying he's trolling when all he says is that it's not *_THE_* video game sounds far fetched
I don’t think that’s the reason, because a couple of the voice actors for the Re4 remake are unionized. Looking at the resumes of Leon’s and Wesker’s voice actors, they state that they’re unionized, for example.
@jackdunc did i really need to elaborate im talking abouy current day unions. They think they are worth way more than they are. Anybody who actually brings value doesn't need a union.
The biggest pro for doing these remakes is they are built on the numbered game's version of the engine, meaning a lot less time spent on the game compared to the numbered title.
It's weird how Krauser has no interactions with Ada considering how much they did even in base OG RE4. Ada even got the real final blow on him in her story. Maybe for the best considering her new performance.
Yes they did in the OG and it also didn't make any sense.. lot's of things in the OG don't make any sense. Also also Ada dealing the final blow to Krauser in this version wouldn't make any sense because he already had a perfect conclusion with Leon considering they are old comrades.
They didn’t have anything pass that they work for Wesker and saves Leon from Krauser it’s good they separated them Leon and Krauser are done amazingly in this game but when we were chasing Krauser I wish we did have one interaction
To be fair, fighting Krauser as Ada was really unecessary and removes a lot of impact from Leon’s duel. It seems this time around, Krauser was already labled as a traitor by Wesker, so they also had no reason to talk anymore
Okay i dont wwant to be to hard but i gotta ask again why didn't they bring ada's re2 remake actress the new actress sounds bored like shes reading things off cue cards.
They didnt because the other VA was a union hire when time came around to hiring for the new re4 game meaning she was not able due to the company she works for.
It took me awhile to love Adas new voice but it really grew on me. People are upset she sounds less sensual and playful but I think it really makes sense for her character. After Raccoon City her and Leon both changed- Ada is working for the bad guy again but shes not necessarily using her charm like she would have back then. Shes a lot more cut and dry, honestly a bit curt. Ada remains straight forward on the agreement with Luis before relenting and aiding him and the others. Honestly, I find most of her charm in the writing and her delivery. I think this makes sense for the Remake version of Ada.
I don't think her vibe is an issue here, RE2R Ada wasn't playful or sensual. The new VA's line deliveries were flat and lacked effort, like when she delivered the line when talking to Wesker in chapter 2 "I wonder *flips page* what has them so riled up?" But she has a potential of being a good VA with better voice directions and training. One of my favorite Lily lines were Ada and Leon on a boat talking about "change", her line was "You? Leon S. Kennedy? You haven't changed, you just think you have" That line alone made feel like she has a potentional of being a good VA, and I hope they don't replace her in the future.
@@brooke278 The same voice direction worked really well with everyone in the cast, except Ada. She was just bad stop trying to convince yourself that she could be good
Say what you will but this is my hill to die on. In RE2R she was way more mysterious with a hint of glamour, in this she's strictly business. Half the time she sounds people say she sounds "tired" she sounds like a professional working another shitty job for the bad guy again. I wouldn't be happy and making double entendres all over the place while in the middle of a crisis of faith. Got to agree, beyond a solid effort it was genuinely good. My only complaints aside from Ada and Wesker's voice was the downgrade Krauser got from double agent to Steve from Code Veronica. I also really liked that they added back in Weskers turtleneck so I never have to see that stupid grey suit ever again lol
@@victor1625 It made perfect sense. Get in good with the cult, obtain intel and deliver it to Wesker, he sends Ada so Krauser doesn't have to blow his cover while still working on the inside, and Wesker also has a guy on the inside to keep tabs on Ada. His role was way more complex before the downgrade.
Personally, I found Remake Krauser more interesting than OG Krauser. Remake Krauser wanted power for himself, probably to make up for the fact he couldn’t save his unit in Operation Javier. All so he’d never be ‘weak’ again. FatBrett does a great analysis on the RE4 Remake villains.
The original Separate Ways was a cobbled together mess that was, at best, sometimes good. This version of SW completely justifies the existence of RE4 Remake. Retooling cut content in interesting ways, tight as fuck gameplay, and having a boss fight in that farm area was brilliant. How many times have we played through that area through the years original and remake and now it houses a boss fight. Great DLC. Worth way more than the $10.
I actually thought the actress did a better job in the DLC. More calm confident. It's a shame "fans" had to attack and threaten her on social media and forced her to delete everything. Even if you hate the performance she didn't deserve any of that. Makes Re fans look like a bunch of entitled, whiney, and childish weirdos.
Not just RE fans but a lot of gamers are that disgusting in general, people did the same to Laura Bailey when she played Abby from TLOU2 and even threatened her kid, all because of her characters actions.
I love that the ending cutscene uses music from re5, specifically the track that plays when Wesker is recounting his conversation with Spencer. Definitely is hinting at a remake
Hate to burst your bubble but CAPCOMm has confirmed that the next remake is 5 then the original resident evil in the style of the remakes. They have confirmed in an interview they will NOT remake code Veronica, the RE director has stated that CE is too controversial and they would have to change too much (incest in the original story) and that there isn’t enough interest. So in short, you guys can stop asking or hoping for a CE remake, it’s not happening. Confirmed by the RE director. After 5 and RE 1 they are going to start making new Resident evils. So when it’s all done we will have Resident evil 1-5 for remakes.
People have completely gaslighted themselves over liking this VA Ada impersonation, while: the original RE4 Ada was stellar; RE6 was excellent, the VA even did 2 characters; RE2R was Great to excellent; this is the odd one out and is a disservice to the character and the director, because people will not allow the actress to be criticized, even though her work was subpar when comparing to the previous Adas and subpar when comparing to the rest of the cast.
I dunno know bro, i just cant get over Ada's new voice. Its so droll. It should be "i dont care, im ada wong" not "i dont care about voicing ada wong".
Even though the campaign is more streamlined as a DLC, it comes pretty close to feeling like a complete game and is a lot more fun than most full games in the series (especially 3make and Village)
I do think that Ada's new voice actress does a solid job with the cold direction they gave her. I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just different and a little iffy at times.
It's weird how the actress in real life looks so similar to Ada, but she just doesn't sound like her. Makes it clear that voice acting is more than just showing up in a booth and talking.
I honestly think part of it was the recording equipment. Something about how her audio is balanced she doesn't sound in the setting. Stands out amongst the ambience
And yet no one asks the important question : How come back in the day separate ways was entirely FREE & we have to pay to play it now, in the RE 4 Remake, in 2023? It's unfair and unfounded...
They need to brighten things up. The reason I lost my love for the series is because everything is so dark all the time. Turn the lights on, light a candle, do something!
I always see people add voice direction to why Ada's voice performance is bad. Everyone else had good performances. Really good ones for some. No one is complaining about anyone else. Just her. I kept thinking about the line deliveries and how much better it could have sounded. I'd have to see her in another role but it sounds like an excuse. This is nitpicky but Ada's heels take me out of it. She's snap her heels or her ankle first jump. In RE2 I can get behind it, since she was in a city, doing spy stuff it seemed. In this one she's been hired as a burglar, spy, and kinda a commando. She'd never wear heels for that kinda job.
Idk man, the whole " being in heels is so impractical!" Which is it, but I've seen tons of men do cartwheels and all kinds of shit in heels. Ada is a very athletic agent, her being able to walk around a facility and castle in heels and then some makes more than enough sense. The only place that she "may" have had some issues would be the muddier areas of the village. A small stumble would've been greatly appreciated and her saying "I need to watch my footing" but idk it's only fat people and unathletic women that say the it's impossible. Because for them it is.
@Sionnachuigim I've worn them. Had a 6ft girlfriend once. Hehe. Fair point about the cartwheels but she's jumping off buildings. No thanks, give me some boots. ;)

@@Sionnachuigim It's not impossible but walking around on dirt, roofs and huge rocks (like that scene with Luis) would be extremely difficult and I see why some fans don't like her with heels on, since it's unbelievable (I don't mind personally)
I have a theory that Ada got her ovaries removed to remove any sort of female emotion. Spies supposedly used to do this. That’s why she’s so “emotionless” in 4 Remake
Ada voice from RE2R sounded much more natural from her appearance. I heard a rumor that this was a diversity change but who knows. I love grappling the shields, and like the extended seperate ways.
I don’t get complaints about how Ada is voiced. In RE2R she was super cliche, typical low quality action flic chick. In RE4R her monotone, emotionless delivery actually sounds interesting and fresh. I totally get the idea.
Re4 Remake is a masterpiece of content now and it was already pretty meaty at launch. Also the merceranies mode is better than ever now and it's STUPID how much fun it is. All this actually made the original Re4 borring to play for me.. something i never thought was possible. Easily game of the year for me, this DLC cemented it. The soundtrack was also 10/10!
Never thought it would be possible either. I just love how better the gameplay is & how much more difficult due to enemy aggression being higher. In my opinion this is the definitive way of playing RE4
Not in 7 years. Re9- 2025 Re CV Remake- 2027 Re5 Remake- 2029 20 year anniversary Hopefully Revelations 3 somewhere. Then Re6 Remake- 2032 20 year anniversary
They won't remake 7. They're only remaking their earlier, non-RE Engine games. We'll get a remake of 5 and 6. And maybe Code Veronica (though I doubt it). Then the remake era will be over.
Spoken by someone who probably hasnt played all Ada campaigns. Just a speculation. Ada has always been strong and seductive wether it was 2, 2 remake, 4, 6 etc. She has no emotion, she has no emotional connection to Leon like the previous Ada's VAs. Its a complete downgrade. Very bland performance, you can tell when you compare them. Plus this is the first VA who has never done this before which shows. She was only chosen due to her race and poor acting in the movie. Affirmative action destroyed this beloved character.
I wonder what Capcom will do next for the RE series, I don't see them really focusing on remaking RE5 right now so maybe they will focus on producing a RE9
I kinda hate that the industry seems to only focus on remaking perfectly fine, already great games. RE5 and RE6 where flawed games that could have been amazing with just a few tweaks, something that a remake could nail.
@@TIGRETONICO u had me in the 1st half re6 was messy on like a fundamental, conceptual level, while re5 needs to be massively overhauled for it to work
@@TIGRETONICO As much as I love RE6's combat, the story needs more than just tweaking. It needs a massive overhaul. I'd be fine with an RE5 remake as long as they don't remove the boulder punching QTE.
I feel like Capcom should just stop with the remakes and do RE9. Remaking Code Veronica or 5 brings with it some problematic can of worms not worth opening anyway considering the times we live in now (I cant imagine how Capcom will do Alfred's characterization tastefully, or the whole "white guy can't shoot black zombies in Africa") Though if they do continue the remake trend I'm betting it'll be RE5 next. I think they will retcon it to make Wesker survive the game, just for him to show up later for RE 9
man i do not understand the discourse with the voice actor. Shes older here, shes more mature. just like leon. leon is just as mono. it fits the theme, the timeline and tone. However, i will say Adas voice acting was miles better in seperate ways than i oringially thought in the main story (again, still didnt think it was as bad as you guys make it out to be).
Oh god, I've heard that the VA change was bad, but I've never imagined it would be THIS bad! I feel sorry for the actress because she's horribly miscast here and her voice doesn't suit voice acting to begin with. I say that as someone with some VA experience.
They only casted her because of two reasons, shes asian and because she was the actress to the most recent poorly received RE film adaptation. She played Ada and even there she was bad. She later posted on social media that she was only getting so much hate because a real asian was voicing ada and not a white woman. Then fans of the series really went after her.
@teehee3657 You sound like a sensitive snowflake. This is a critique with factual reports. Think before you comment, this isnt hate. Affirmative action exists, and capcom tried to be cheap in not hiring a professional VA in the field. There hasnt been any other Ada VA that people complained about in such high numbers. She has miniscule talent in this area and tried to blame society for her lack of skill. Im not gunna sprinkle sugar to make it sound better because you dont like how its said, truth is truth no matter how you say it, doesnt make it untrue.
Had a good time with this and some of your other reviews. Your opinion on continued remakes, however, i hope Capcom ignores. KEEP THE REMAKES COMING! Im loving them. Hope they at least go until RE5 and CV are in the mix... although I'd also be fine with an over the shoulder renake of RE1, as well as an RE0 remake; I'd love the latter be made into a co-op experience.
That rendition of Wind of Madness from RE5 at the end of the DLC sounds amazing. Since RE5 remake will be in the same engine, I hope they'll make it so people who owns RE4R will be able to use RE4 characters/loadout in RE5 Mercenaries.
They replaced Ada's va mostly as a result of a certain trend in dei west where the ethnicity of the va has to match the character, even though the whole point of a va is that we don't need to see the actual person in the first place, so why they didn't just stick with the better va is beyond me.
I’ll just say this; The writing and the choice of VA are what failed Ada, and let’s be honest, it failed Wesker and many of the other characters too. The writing and voice directing can make a bad voice actor a little more tolerable, and a good voice actor can take bad material and at least try to present it well… But when both are terrible? Well… You get the last five games worth of characters who act off and sound wrong, way wrong. And then for whatever reason, they’ll somehow get the writing and VA right for random characters; Marvin in 2, Mikhail in 3 and now Luis, Merchant and Mendez in 4. It’s confusing beyond belief. Hire unionized VA’s and stop being fuckin cheap Capcom.
While I agree to some degree I cannot blame VA directors at a higher stanpoint. This is the one VA for ada whohas been complained about, the rest of them did great when portraying ada. But yes, capcom does need to stop being cheap. We need consistency for VAs to iconic characters. Not this inclusive trash just because shes asian. Also yes the writing was bad for her, the whole work and tell, the whole demanor, its was dry and certain parts. The one great part about this DLC was the pitch black regenerator room. Rest was decent with voice acting being abysmal.
I don't really see where this problem with Ada's writing comes from, i really enjoyed her role in this game and saw it as no different from how she was in OG. If you really dislike her EN Voice and the other characters play the game in JP, you will get nothing but performances that fit these characters like a glove. I highly agree on the Union VA's tho.
@teehee3657 Nah, its just you. Society has gotten soft and your one of them. You still havent validated your point where I spout hate. People using words with no clue of its meaning nowadays. Commenting to say nothing at the end of it. Its pathetic
I havent played the 3 remake but ive been oretty happy with the other remakes so far. I wish 4 still had that fight w the scorpion monster guy on the crane platform but this is an awesome game and dlc
I think its a solid game but its not a good remake due to all the cut content… give it a try. It has good replay ability, great acting, great gameplay, great graphics.
As a person who has played the OG 3 Nemesis and 3 Remake, the Remake does the graphics (Obviously), combat, Carlos, and Tyrell better. Og 3 Nemesis does puzzles, decision making, exploration, Nemesis encounters, boss fights, enemy variety, map layout. Its a disgrace of a remake. They have way too many scripted running and cutscene sections where Jill is in no danger. If you've never played the Og you'll probably be fine with it.
RE 3 Remake is still a very good game. Tons of fun. It's just a bad 'remake' of the original title, that's all. Just don't compare/contrast it with the original RE 3 and you'll have a great time.
I'm really looking forward to RE5 Remake. I get sick of hearing fans say that Code Veronica MUST be remade to set up Whesker. They really are overestimating how much set up a character like that needs. He's a mad eugenicist matrix villain-- this DLC is all a new player needs to understand he's evil lol besides, were never going back to zombies and survival horror- capcom couldn't even maintain that style for more than one game before reverting to action again with RE3R. They should continue with this new RE4R style of combat and treasure hunting even for new games like RE9. this style never fully got its time in the sun, being completely lost by the time RE6 came out

Something about Ada's new VA, I feel like this is less of her fault and more of a voice director's fault kind of scenario considering her voice is fine as is, it just felt emotionless (more so than normal Ada or when compared to the RE2R Ada) either way it sucks that she and she alone got flak for it, I rarely see anybody point out "oh maybe it was a problem with production or oh maybe she wasn't directed well enough for the role" and instead everybody who played RE4R took to social media and harassed the shit out of her
Yeah most of the time its bad dirrection or just a bad actor or a good actor with a role they ain't suited well with.
Probably, the actress sounds a tot better here than in the main campaign.
I think she has autistic vibes which is kinda fun
well i do agree it's mostly the the director fault but the VA just making thing worse for herself in that situation by taking it to twitter calling people racist to those who criticize her. I don't know what the director are thinking when hiring her it's either save budget or diversity check or both.
@coldfrost791 yea. It's a bad situation. I haven't played the game but the clips I've seen don't make it look so good. I think at the end of the day, people are intuitive enough to smell a rat. The voice actress is a diversity hire.

I really don’t get the hate for this Ada . I think she does a fine job .
The re2r VA became unionized, thats why they didnt reuse her
I don’t think that’s the reason, because a couple of the voice actors for the Re4 remake are unionized. Looking at the resumes of Leon’s and Wesker’s voice actors, they state that they’re unionized, for example.
Unions suck. Be good at your job and you don't have to worry

@@ultraxpress This Krauser never met Wesker

Okay i dont wwant to be to hard but i gotta ask again why didn't they bring ada's re2 remake actress the new actress sounds bored like shes reading things off cue cards.
@amazonalexa3 that's not true. Hunnigan is voiced by Reylene Harewood in the RE4R, Ada in RE2R is voiced by Jolene Anderson.
Her voice fits well for her combat dialogue and the way she tries to feign indifference half the time.

Got to agree, beyond a solid effort it was genuinely good. My only complaints aside from Ada and Wesker's voice was the downgrade Krauser got from double agent to Steve from Code Veronica. I also really liked that they added back in Weskers turtleneck so I never have to see that stupid grey suit ever again lol
krauser double agent made no sense
The vest was snazzy
@gibramrivera-yv2lo it's more interesting than him having a mad boner for Wesker like he did in the original, to be honest.
I need maximum continental Wesker cheese in an re5 remake if we get it
The original Separate Ways was a cobbled together mess that was, at best, sometimes good.
The best fix for Ada's voice is to play the game with Japanese voices, haha.
I love that the ending cutscene uses music from re5, specifically the track that plays when Wesker is recounting his conversation with Spencer. Definitely is hinting at a remake
Every review I’ve seen so far: “RE4 should be the last remake”

Hate to burst your bubble but CAPCOMm has confirmed that the next remake is 5 then the original resident evil in the style of the remakes.
They have confirmed in an interview they will NOT remake code Veronica, the RE director has stated that CE is too controversial and they would have to change too much (incest in the original story) and that there isn’t enough interest.
So in short, you guys can stop asking or hoping for a CE remake, it’s not happening. Confirmed by the RE director.

Literally everyone has criticized her performance, some people just took it too far and started harassing the actress.

Even though the campaign is more streamlined as a DLC, it comes pretty close to feeling like a complete game and is a lot more fun than most full games in the series (especially 3make and Village)
Downloading it now. Only 10 bucks and it's bigger and better than the entire 3emake? Hell yeah
I hope some PC mods change Ada's voice. Even an AI would sound better at this point.
Nahh it's bad for the VA's the AI copies
And yet no one asks the important question : How come back in the day separate ways was entirely FREE & we have to pay to play it now, in the RE 4 Remake, in 2023? It's unfair and unfounded...

I agree with that. I still like the old Ada better. New Wesker is really cool though, no problems there.
So Ada either hit her head or had a quick full-frontal lobotomy.....
She left her emotions somewhere deep under Raccoon City 😐
No thanks, give me some boots. ;)

I heard it was because the RE2Make VA had joined an actors union, and capcom has a history of not working w union workers
This Ada was the actress who played her in the Netflix series.
The REAL reason for the change was that the actor for RE2 joined an union. It wasn’t a diversity hire
I don’t get complaints about how Ada is voiced. In RE2R she was super cliche, typical low quality action flic chick. In RE4R her monotone, emotionless delivery actually sounds interesting and fresh. I totally get the idea.

I’ll just say this; The writing and the choice of VA are what failed Ada, and let’s be honest, it failed Wesker and many of the other characters too.
The writing and voice directing can make a bad voice actor a little more tolerable, and a good voice actor can take bad material and at least try to present it well…
But when both are terrible?
