looks like kid a/amnesiac era, going by thom's hair and stubble. so i'm thinking the photographer probably had them stand like this as a kind of representation of thom making the band do a 180 after ok computer; if i remember right, phil, ed and colin were wanting to do another album of more traditional, uptempo, 3 minute rock songs and thom basically forced them to go in a different direction. alls well that ends well, it definitely benefited them, but i think thom put it best when he said "radiohead is the UN, but i'm america" so yeah. photographer probably took this photo as a visual representation of the band dynamic that kid a/amnesiac came fom
