@@naufalhez mine's doing good! It's pretty cold here but I'm trying to keep it in a warm place. I got another little cactus but unfortunately my dad pushed it and it's pot broke 😭 I'm going to move it to another one tho!! Ty for asking and I'm glad your cactus is ok!
My grandmother had at cacti garden at her old farm back in Mexico. She had several different kinds, I always used to browse the different types, they weren't listed by name. But they were all neatly organized by height, her largest one being nearly 8ft tall.
We're actually about to do a video about that! If you're making your own you'll want to do one part organic material (Compost, Forest Products, Coconut Coir, Potting Soil) to two parts mineral grit (coarse sand, perlite, pumice, Decomposed Granite, Chicken Grit). The mineral grit improves drainage and the Organic material give it nutrients. If you're getting a cactus soil mix from a garden center (or Home Depot, Lowes etc...) you'll probably want to add more mineral grit than it comes with.
I recently bought a pincushion cactus. It is small and round in shape. I did some research on how to take care of this cactus(I call him Chaco). Many say not to keep it under direct sunlight and many suggested direct sun. What should I do?
Cactus need lots of full, direct sun to thrive. The complexity that people might have been hinting at is that it's useful to gradually acclimate plants to new conditions. So rather than moving an indoor cactus directly outside into 10 hours of full sun per day, slowly move it into its new conditions over the course of two weeks. Rapid extreme changes in sun exposure and temperature can be too stressful for plants and result in permanent damage.
If you are supposed to water them in the Summer and not at all in the winter why do they thrive outside in San Francisco where it rains all winter long and not at all in the Summer?
Good question! This advice is mainly for people growing in containers where watering in winter can lead to over-watering. In-ground plants experience less drastic fluxuations so they can tolerate rain better. Cactus and other succulents can also tolerate months of drought (though they might start looking a little haggard). If you want them to look their best, you should water in the summer. Other Succulent varieties like Aeonium will actually go dormant in the summer and grow in winter. San Francisco also has mild summer temperatures (and of course, that lovely summer fog...) compared to the Southwest and other areas where watering in the summer is more important.
I endure below poverty levels as I'm a full time unpaid life carer ❤️ in the UK 🌎 & last few years have been incredibly difficult & I've endured 3 winters now without heating because I have to keep my combined utility bill below £70 each month 👍 & last 3 years quite a few of my cacti have flowered 👀😱🥰😍 & I think this is because my main living room (hottest) room through winter months sits at around 3-5 degrees centigrade & so they really do get a cold period but without the actual frost etc.. So basically the silver lining to being borderline hyperthermic is that you get to see pretty flowers 🌺🥰😍💪🌱🤣 I really am being serious though, I'm 48 & plants are my friends because I don't have any human ones , society forgot about me (/ carers❤️) around 18 yrs ago when I became an unpaid carer ❤️ This year will be no different so I'm looking forward to cacti flowers 🥰😍 and star jumps 🤔🤣 Happy growing everyone 🌱🥰🌍💪🌎👣
I would recommend this nursery to everyone. Good product, good professional customer service.

Cacti are also less susceptible to root-rot from over-watering and can tolerate very climates, so they are one of the most adaptable succulents.
Cacti are sharp
How old or big does a cactus have to be in order to bloom?
It depends on the variety. If you have a specific cactus you want to ask about, go ahead and email our team at info@mountaincrestgardens.com. -cheers
