    Just did this myself. Im not very tech savvy so it was a pretty big undertaking for me. Thank you for sharing! I had watched other videos that were much more complicated and I could not get it to work right. Your method of direction is very step based and helped me make sure each part of the process was done right, thank you!

    Genius that I am, I ordered a Zumo XT from a bike shop in England to be shipped to me in America. I didn't even take into consideration that the maps would reflect this. I almost returned the unit until I found this video. (liked and subscribed)

    I should've start right from here! Terabytes of nonsense on Garmin stuff on the web and (most probably) the only video that really helps to create Garmin maps. Huge thanks, sat103! No, I'm not saying that all those steps are total darkness for me, I have them this or other way on my computer, but when you do it once in 2 years you're forgetting even where those wise advises are on your PC😀

    If anyone is wondering, I managed to get the German maps working on my Garmin DriveSmart 55 just fine. Only issue I ran into was having to create my own "maps" folder within basecamp, but creating your own works just fine and is still recognizable.

    Hi, I have an AVIS DS 50 LMT that won’t update past 2016 with Garmin Express (not sure why/it should be lifetime map updates). If using Basecamp, if I wanted to install one state or a small area of the United States into my Garmin’s internal memory that’s free instead of using an external SD card can I do that? Also, if later I decide I want to uninstall it from the Garmin (to free up space on the Garmin) is that possible? P.S. I don’t see any of the .img map files on the Garmin when I look at it in the Windows Explorer. Are they deeply hidden? Thank you in advance!

    Hmm. Funny. I found the folder you showed us in the video. That folder has all my Garmin City Navigator North America NT going all the way back to the 2018.10 map.
    But I also found another specific folder at C:\Garmin\Maps\OSM generic routable where my last OSM map was dowloaded into Basecamp in 2019-10.
    I guess I'll put my OpenMapChest map into here too.

    • @sat103
      @sat103  2 года назад

      If you installed maps using Garmin Express in the past, that software has a nasty habit of never removing the old maps (even if you uninstalled from Windows Add/Remove), potentially taking up many gigabytes of space on your PC. There is a cleanup method listed here www.poi-factory.com/node/45648?page=2#comment-418223

    Do you think this would work with the suzuki infotainment which uses the garmin maps? They are currently wanting £70 for out of date maps

    • @sat103
      @sat103  9 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe. I'm not sure as I have no experience with that particular system. It depends if you can access the infotainment file system and get to the map IMG files. If you can access the files and back them up, you should be able to - in theory - replace the IMG with one of the same file name and it should work. But again, I have no experience with that system so I'm not sure. Proceed at your own risk.

    I tried this out and had no luck. I downloaded the .zip and put the folder both into the Maps folder itself, and the InstallMaps folder, and no dice. Do you have any advice? Super helpful otherwise, used this for other maps before.

    • @sat103
      @sat103  Год назад

      If the OSM map data does not show in BaseCamp, an alternate location to extract the ZIP is the Global Map folder. This folder can be seen in BaseCamp from Maps > Manage Map Products. The Global Map folder is ordinarily C:\Progam Files (x86)\Garmin\BaseCamp\Maps but you will have to check Manage Map Products from within Basecamp to be certain.

    Does this work with the BMW Navigator V by Garmin?

    • @sat103
      @sat103  Год назад +1

      If it can successfully connect to the Garmin Express software with a USB cable so it has the latest system software, and it has a 32GB microSD memory card installed, it should work. This is a guess because I have no experience with that model, but it has been reported by others that Garmin Express will recognize it.
      The V is a model from 2013 www.press.bmwgroup.com/usa/article/detail/T0147185EN_US/bmw-motorrad-introduces-the-navigator-v
      This means the V should, in theory, operate similar to nuvi models made during that time. The manual states it will support microSD (up to 32GB and no more than that), so again, it should work static.garmin.com/pumac/BMW_Nav_V_OM_EN.pdf

    Thanks for your excellent tutorial . I have successfully downloaded OpenMapChest Western Europe to Basecamp. However when I try to Install this map onto my SD card I get an error message saying.. "No unlocked maps were found for this device". I am at a loss as how to proceed. Any guidance you can offer will be much appreciated. Thanks

    • @sat103
      @sat103  Год назад

      This might be an easy answer. If you have old Garmin maps installed on your computer, you may have selected an old Garmin map instead of OpenMapChest when you used MapInstall to generate the map data. Doing that would have created a locked map on the SD card. I would try MapInstall again, examine the drop-down menu at the bottom, confirm OpenMapChest is selected and generate another map.
      The not-so easy answer depends on the age of your Garmin navigator. Some older models require the map to be in a folder called Map instead of Garmin on the SD card. Generate the map first with MapInstall, open the SD card on your computer, rename the Garmin folder to Map, leave gmapsupp.img as is within the folder.
      One of those two solutions will hopefully work.
