    If your watching this video. Please don't ever use a Sawzall on existing plumbing the vibrations can cause disruptions down the line and free up joint that can cause leaks. using an actual saw or pvc cutter is recommended.

      Especially if it's a copper drain line. Oh God

      Lol sorry but a sawzall IS an “actual saw.” Try using the right blade.

  • @Joewalshe38
    @Joewalshe38 4 года назад +12

    Thanks for the video. Anyone doing a similar job might consider taking birs off the cut pipes as they can catch hair etc. going down the waste pipe. Also, don't let reciprocating saw blade cut through gravel as it will blunt it very fast.

    You are right on the money with making drain level. Tile guys love you !!!!

  • @SomeDumUsrName

    Actually, you installed the trap backwards. FYI....the sharper-bend side in the IN side and the swept-bend side is the OUT side. Probably won't be a big deal here but, beware next time. It's a flow thing and it IS important in places like the trap assembly at the bottom of a washer-drain stand pipe.

      @jlatnyc 5 месяцев назад

      I'm having a hard time understanding your explanation. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @SomeDumUsrName
      @SomeDumUsrName 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@jlatnyc the trap part (the “u” shape) has a sharply bent side and a side that is more consistent with the bend radius of the bottom: the input side of that trap (u shaped pipe) is the side with the sharper bend in it and the OUTput side is the sweep side (the gradual bend side.)

    • @jlatnyc
      @jlatnyc 5 месяцев назад

      @@SomeDumUsrName thanks. But, I just looked at a 2" PVC trap I have... The u shape is the same on both sides and it doesn't matter as both PVC hubs handle 2" pipe... 1 for the inlet and one for the street elbow connecting the trap.

    • @SomeDumUsrName
      @SomeDumUsrName 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@jlatnyc then it doesn’t apply on that particular trap. They’re not all the same.

    • @SomeDumUsrName
      @SomeDumUsrName 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@jlatnyc but when you have one with a sharper bend on one side, the more bent side is the inlet. Carry on 😁👍

    Is there a minimum length of sandpipe before the pipe gets to the ptrap?

    • @jt5747
      @jt5747 Год назад

      If you are talking about vertical distance, I don't think there is a minimum (as long as the inlet is higher than the outlet), but there is a maximum. Too high and the momentum of the draining water could carry all of it out of the trap, leaving it dry and open to sewer gas coming back up.

    I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOU... SHOWING PEOPLE HOW TO GET THE BASIC IDEA OF WHAT TO DO...
    Well, its just that when I watch people i can see the mistakes... When YOU watch me, YOU can see my mistake...
    & I do... & i have made boo boo's !
    Then we are supposed to,
    Tell each other WAZZUP ! FIX IT !
    Continue on with D.I.Y. project !
    ACCEPT 1 THING, SALT ! PINCH OF.
    He said... Be sure to clean it out...
    THEN HE DIDN'T CLEAN IT OUT X 2 ?
    AUDIENCE IS NOW CONFUSED !
    The best Construction rule is...
    Measure TWICE cut ONCE !
    Not cut a bunch of times...
    Measure a bunch of times ?
    Now Im Confused ?
    Did the boss approve this video ?
    Because I also noticed you 16 inched from the studs... Ad on Sheetrock...
    Or backer board... Or seal-o-panels...
    & the shower OR tub wall panel kits.
    Or if you tile... Or decorative inserts...
    Can Push the measurement out any where from one inch ( 1" ) up to ( 4" )
    Depending on what you choose to cover up the walls with ?
    So me say,
    Think about the WHOLE project !
    Because 16" on 2 centers can move !
    I always measure the depth of what ever the customer has chosen...
    Then make three ( 3 ) cross reference points... Outer edge is my third point of reference... The two ( 2 ) inside wall corners provide you're depth & width... Outer edge of customers choice I.E. tub ? Or shower kit ? Gives the length... Height is provided by the bottom of the shower pan...
    Plus the thicknesses of said shower pan... Or tub basin... gets you're height of the chrome screen cover plate
    Sorry man... I had too !
    IS ALL GOOD SAID THE GREAT MAN !

      Yeah I'm a diy land lord and I was thinking about a few of the things you mentioned. That said, I've installed my share of p-traps for sinks, but want to try doing a shower so it's very helpful to learn how to do it right the first time to avoid almost right or close enough as is the case with far too many people professional and handymen alike.

    It looks like you could have saved the part you cut out. Had you left enough pipe on your cut for a 2 inch coupling...you might have ended up just right. That's just my arm chair observation. Otherwise job well done.

    I’m trying to add a shower drain to my 1/2 drain bathroom in basement, what’s best course of action to tap into plumbing?

    • @OhGeeKevin
      @OhGeeKevin 3 года назад

      You’ll have to use a 1.5” to 2” adapter from wherever you start cutting. Then you can start routing 2” piping to wherever you want.

  • @KingSobieski

    Woulda at least centered for length and width if you already went through that much work to get it centered on width.

    why dont you use a P Trap which has joints that you screw together? Like the ones used underneath sinks? Are they not strong enough for when the concrete cures around them?

    • @thepeopleschannel6416

      you cant access it under concrete anyway. it will just be more likely to leak.

    What about the venting?

    • @Engineer9736
      @Engineer9736 2 года назад +1

      I’m here for just that lol. I put in my own shower, all finished, but still ended up with a pool of water at my feet. While the pipe underneath is 50mm in diameter. All the foaming shower gel blocks air from getting into the drain and then it starts to fill up. I had this issue already in mind when constructing the new sewer, got access to add a vent after discovering this. But the guy in this video may have it as a tougher lesson over a few months.

      Richard... i was worried about that situation but i i just did my shower pan ,etc . I realized there was a vertical vent connected to that line so i didnt worry anymore.
