This song combined with the song title: gives me the vibes of it’s the dramatic build up to the final fight, and there’s this hopefulness to it as the hero prevails, only for this bittersweet melancholy to follow them through their supposed victory. Perhaps they lost all of their allies already to the previous battles, maybe they’ve realized to get to this point and scale in power they have lost all of their own sense of self and humanity- and now things can never truly be the same again.
Reminds me of someone posting a meme of "here's my game idea" that was just cutouts of a bunch of different games' covers put together, and the first thing I thought was "That's a game I want."
What if someone made this a combined boss level, where you play as Frisk, against all three trying just to prevent you from advancing, Toriel so you stay safe, Undyne so the monsters are free, different Hollow Knight bosses because... well, they're infected, and the two games' mechanics switch between each other so one second you're dodging fire and spears and the next you're dashing and slashing at the HK bosses
I like them. I often hear a really nice song and go "if only there was more of this exact vibe, but different songs... I could make a whole list of that"... But there is no song like drunken sailor (for example). If there was, it wouldn't be so special, probably
Bro I dunno where you're getting your info but most pirate ships did actually have a dedicated musical group, usual with things like, yes, drums or fiddles, plus flutes and concertinas. I wish for the base strings and piano it had an actual recording over midi to get better sound quality (this is really good it should be performed). It feels like it could work cinematically for a crossover. it could alternitivly fit a character that fits the three main motifs of what I feel this conveys (heroic determination, hollow precision, a reversal of compassion) I hate how much these descriptions fit sans, but better yet it feels like a betrayal from someone who actively assisted the main character for a true depressing calculated reason... like some info comes forth that the protagonist must be defeated for the world to live on. My first thought going into this was actually it being a bad time trio fight. The mechanics could include Toriel's "burn" the attacks get faster the more you're hit, Undyne's classic, and hollow knight's "parry" you have to press space to gain temporary invincibility against hollow knight's attacks (you know, parrying).
