    You are going to enjoy that switch, I have the 24 and 8 port versions and they work really well, enjoy the sweets my friend :) I had the same old switch as you, it served me well for years, but I had the same problem with the web interface.

    I've recently upgraded to a 16 and a 24 port PoE switch, two AP Pro's and a USG at work.
    Makes it far easier to manage than the various brands I had before, plus a few PoE injectors because there weren't enough ports for all our phones on the old switches.

    In case of power consumption, on the Ubiquity back there is a value of 56W and on Linksys is value 1.0A for 200-240V so its 240W. So big difference!

      POE Switches are always higher max wattage (if no powered poe used it be more like 10-60w depending on how many cables plugged in)
      I picked up a managed hp (1 + serial port console) 4 module option + 24port poe switch for £45
      Was unsure if there would be any issues with POE on devices that don't support it my understanding was it just did not provide power if device did not ask for it but there was a slight warning about risk of damage to some devices that are incompatible with poe switches (as the one I had has both passive and higher active power poe modes, but does have light indications when POE is active or not)

  • @kkpdk

    The only thing I dislike about ubiquiti is that they reserve vlan 1. Yes, I know, changing vlans around on a multisite corporate network is a 5 minute job, completely risk free, and disturbs nobody (...), but that is what I inherited. And in the Linksys switch the ~200k resistor from the top of the input electrolytic, and the ~4.7uF across the controller IC are probably ripe for replacement.
    Looking forward to more on that switch. We're considering it (we just have to solve a tiny little switch closet depth problem first:-).

    Do not plug both power in unless it specifically says that you can use both at the same time as you could destroy the power supply inside the switch or/and maybe kill the switch motherboard (even the hp switch I have has warnings about not doing it but mine is hard wired DC option)

      Thank You very much! I took the 10Gbe switch a part,, and the internal PSU and the external DC in both goes to the board, but not exactly the same connections,, they might be separated... But Yes that I would have to investigate further.

      Don't get me wrong I sell Unifi products and I use the wireless and camera systems but just don't care much for the routing & switching lineup. Dangerous - I got mine off ebay for like 370. Its a 3750E with two X2 slots that I shoved 10G fiber modules into. Older, Yes, but its nice to have my cisco lab and then have actual "production" stuff on my home network as well. What's funnier is I bought a 24 port 3750E to uplink it like 2 weeks later and that unit was only 2 years old. I think may have been "New, old stock" or possibly "Cisco excess".

    awesome video,I always look forward watching your videos Morten:)
    Do you have double rack cabinet against each other?
    Are they 48U each?
    also what are the dimensions of the racks?
    I also a few videos ago asked you if i could get into contact with you regarding choice of servers. I have watched alot of your lenovo x3650 m3 and m4 videos and i feel like I'm somewhat familiar with Lenovo servers, but its between the x3650 m3 or Dell R710. I will be using it for MCSA 2016,self study,Adding a DHCP, AD DC,(WSUS) or a few other VM's for testing when I'm going to school to study MCSA for server 2016 and Cisco certs. I never owned a Rack server before so i dont have much experience, but I do know you have alot of it.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  6 лет назад +1

      Hi anders gjerløw
      Thank You very much! IT's two 42U Racks that are screw together,, old compaq racks.
      As a big IBM/Lenovo fan,, I would go with the x3650 M3. You need to compare x3650 M3 with the Dell r720 to get same generation of servers.
      Thank you for watching! :-)

    • @andersgjerlw9636
      @andersgjerlw9636 6 лет назад

      Thanks for getting back to me. I also have questions regarding server OS if you dont mind. I know the 2016 server OS DC version is expensive, but I have like 10 devices that I plan on to be connected to the server. I probably will have to do IP reservations in order to give them a static IP if anything in my infrastructure fails.
      I found a guy that is selling standard version 2016 for 1300NOK with 50 CALs. Does CAL mean 50 users/devices?
      Also how many RDS is licensed for the std version?
      Will this server 2016 retail version work for lenovo x3650 m3/dell R720?
      Also,is the licenses for 2016 std and DC version on ebay.co.uk legit? some are like 100NOK/DKK and with DC version with 50CALs it is 600NOK/DKK?
      Or can I just buy 5 CALs each time I need more CALs for users/devices and it will add it self up?
      is this a scam? I have no idea what the prices are for server OS versions since I have recently got obsessed with networking and servers.
      I wanted to buy the x3650 m3 server you had for sale this christmas, but I was to broke and I had no means to drive from norway to denmark in order to get it.

    today i purchased a cisco catalyst 4506 switch.
    it have 239 rj 45 ports 1 Gbps and 10 1 G sfp and 2 10 G uplink connections.
    These type switch is used in telephone centrals and wan applikations and large lan networks.
    i only spent 1800 danish kr, 360 usd on this purchase. it normaly does cost 36'000 kr and i think, thise price is only for the switch and not the line cards and supervisor engine.
    Now all my other switches is

    I have mixed feelings about those things. It does not really smell that professional, especially if you used HP, Cisco, Juniper or even Dell before. In my experience a large, lit thingy is a dead giveaway. I have never really seen that on a switch and I would not know why it has one. I tested a 16-port 10Gbit one from them (only 600€, cheap!) and it seems okay, even the web interface. It is not the most professional thing but it will do for most people. Of course it does not have redundant PSUs or stacking but you can counteract that with 2, 4 or more switches to have no single point of failure at the heart of your network. But if it is any good only shows after a couple of years of service the switch has been up running without a reboot. The internet seems to flooded with those things and reviews as of late.
