When I went to Scotland the first time I had never felt so happy in my entire life. I am Scottish-Australian, and felt like I had come home for the first time in my life. My Dad was from Glasgow, and my Mum’s Dad was from there too. Mum’s Mum was from Fife. I wish I was brave enough to move from Australia, because Scotland is where my heart is.

My grandfather was from Limekilns, Fife and lived across from the Firth of Fourth. I went and visited in July when I was a teenager and swam in the water. I dove off the stone dock and tried to swim to my Uncle’s boat (he’d challenged me). I knew as soon as I hit the water I was in trouble. It was so cold I almost drowned. One of the stupid things you do as a youth and I realize how lucky I was to survive it. Someday I’d like to go back as an adult. My aunt and uncle have passed away. I have some distant cousins still there. Enjoy your new home!!

I'm 1/2 Scottish with my family having been from near Perth on a gorgeous old estate that my Great Grandfather somehow lost..... I cried when I landed in Edinburgh thinking of my Grandmother and the beautiful Scotland she was forced to leave behind for reasons unknown to me sadly when my Great Grandfather took her as an 18 year old with him on his move to Virginia, USA.
So all my life growing up my Scottish Grandmother lived with our family. If only I'd asked her a million questions! I'm a new sub as of your last video the first that popped up and I'm here to stay! Your new home is so nice, love the carpets and your location on the beach!!

Shaun, I think perhaps you were confused by the phrase "bottle kiln." A bottle kiln doesn't have anything to do with bottles, only with the bottle shape of the kiln. They were used in firing ceramics and pottery. Bottle kilns fell out of use because they were horribly fuel-inefficient (as much as 90% of the fuel went up the flue as waste heat), and as soon as something better came along, potteries went over to it _en masse_ .

    Welcome to your new home!
I used to swim in a natural spring-fed pool (Barton Springs in Austin, TX) every day of the year. It was much better in the winter! In the summer, I'd jump in and it was so cold it would catch my breath. In the winter, though, the water was warmer than the air, so it felt warm to swim and so very hard to leave that nice warm water. It was exhilarating, though, to swim every morning until I got sick swimming after a hard rain that washed nasty stuff into the watershed. Don't swim after a hard rain.
