this came in CLUTCH! you explained this so thoroughly and simply, THANK YOU.
Been scouting this process to weeks! Thank you for your help! Right to the point without any "captive audience" speeches! well done!
Thank you. This video was very informative. I have been racking my brain looking through a bunch of videos that were not telling me anything. Your video is concise and to the point. Good luck with all your future endeavors.
Again Thanks!!
Thank you so much. I spent way too much time doing the wrong thing over and over. You are so very helpful and I appreciate you doing this. What a life saver :)
Thank you so muchMr Cubbon!! I have been watching videos right and left and I have not thought to go to amazone for guidance, and actually everything is in there!
My pleasure, Mr. Kamous
You actually can use the Amazon template on Canva. Just upload it and add it to the cover as a layer to check your title placement. Then delete the layer.
Is this the free version of Canva you're talking about? How do you upload the PDF/PNG?
@@robcub40 Ooen the png template with MS paint program and save it as gpj and then use it as a background.
but the size u can upload to canva should not be more than 25 mb how did u manage to upload it ?
@@ihsanenaji2118 Use a png optimizer tool to decrease that 25 mb. Pngquant for windows or ImageOptim for Mac. It will make the PNG a couple of kb.
@@Cerebelus thanks I have already solved it somehow 🤗🤗
DUUUUUUDE You are such a lifesaver!!! =D I'll just go ahead and say I love you for this!! hahahaha Thank you very much!
i've been frustrated for days trying to solve this problem. i think you saved me. thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thank you Rob. That was very helpful.
My pleasure
Rob was spot on with the calculations. I just ordered a proof copy of my book literally minutes ago. The cover and lettering were well within the margins required by Amazon. I just hoped to get the difference between cream and white colored paper. I know there is a difference in width, but just how much? Just for comparison. Other than that, this was an amazing video and really useful. Thanks!
Cream paper is slightly thicker so I always go for white.
Very useful video. Straightforward, to the point. I only wish I had found you first!
Thank you VERY much. This video was simple to follow and helped me tremendously. My book is now in review. Hurray! At Last!
Wonderful!
Thanks a lot Rob . You have saved my day. You are indefinitely a great tutor.
Brilliant info Rob. I was struggling with this and now I'm flying!
How you make it please I still
Hi Rob! I just wanted you to know, this video helped me quite a bit! Thank you for making it. I had to include a photo, but I figured it out, KDP liked it after the 4th attempt, and I still have a full head of hair, LOL! Seriously, now I know exactly what to do next time! 👍
Now you see why I've lost my hair. Yeah, I'm gonna do more videos on Canva.
This is great. I'm doing mine alongside you and it's so fun!
Thanks, Rob, this will help author that don't have Photoshop/Illustrator or Indesign this tutorial! I also tried to make a Kindle fiction book cover using Canva on my channel.
thanks, Nathaniel. Yes, Canva is good for Kindle covers as well!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! Super helpful and easy to understand.
upload a cover template after resizing in MS paint as JPJ and then lower the transparency from canva (option given on top) can make it easier .
Thanks! 😊
Just what I was looking for! Thanks
Hi please I'm looking for the software that can open zip file
Hi rob when I typed Kdp template cover the exact one you’ve shown my page then shows an error I am using a basic hp laptop do I need to have something downloaded first I’m confused thanks
Thanks for the video. But when i downloaded print pdf kdp still showed error as the cover did not fit. Can u please help.
I can't help. I need more info about your issue
The problem is when I want to upload the book cover on kdp, they dont accept it. I dont know what to do , why that is. I did upload with pdf print
Thank you so much for this!!
You're so welcome!
Why did you use elements to create a black background insteted of change colour ?
Rob. Thank you so much. Very very helpful. Detailed and professional. Top man.
It seems to me that you are not using the KDP tool creator, where you are able to manually place each section, (front cover, spine, back cover.) The method you are using is the secondary option wherein you forgo the KDP tool creator and opt to manually create the pages in a separate application (Canva) then use that page.
Yes, Harry
You have to resize the KDP template because the image size is too large to upload into Canva. What software did you use? Is there a free one? Thanks
Try this: pngtojpg.com/
this video keeps saving me. thanks again!
Glad to hear it!
I almost had it🤦🏽♀️ what am I doing wrong if it says “your expected cover size is 13.989x10.417 but the submitted file size is 12.479x9.250
I don’t know
Thanks for this video, its exactly what I needed to watch!
Hello Cubbon, Thanks for your work.
I have a question on the page count of books (which is required by Amazon) for getting the design template. For example, if the book's page count comes in at 500 pages on MS Word, how does that translate into page count with respect to printing? Correct me if I am wrong, does that mean half the number of pages, since it would print on both sides? Thanks.
Amazon usually means "sides" when they're referring to pages. If your MS Word document has the same page size as the paperback size you've chosen then the number of pages in the MS WORD doc will be the same as the book's page count. Here is my video on how to upload PDFs at Amazon KDP for sale on Amazon. It's super-easy and it's free. ruclips.net/video/bmWEB0naIPU/видео.html
Appreciate the insight man 👌
Hi please can you help me, your showing 6×9
What is the correct measurement for my 2books
5.5X8.5 inches- 392 Pages.
And 5.5X8.5 inches- 340 Pages
Please help me get the correct measurement in canva with spine Thanksss
they're both 12.15 x 8.75
this might appear to be a dumb question but can you tell me what exactly ''page count'' is?
Is it the number of numbered pages or a single whole page (including both sides of the page). That's slightly confusing for me
Mt book has 106 numbered pages. So how do i find out the spine width?
Page count refers to the numbered pages. So 100 page book would contain 50 pages, if you see what I mean.
@@robcub40 i see so when finding out spine width, do i multiply 100 or 50 with the page thckness 0.0025 ?
Thank you , really Thank you ❤❤
You're welcome 😊
This has been so helpful thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful, Sheila
Thank you so much bro...good explaining 👍
Welcome 👍
I don't see the custom dimensions button. Do I need to subscribe to Canva first?
I got it!!! woooohooo - off and running, thank you so much!
Really helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
thank you rob,can you tell me please ,the measures of spine for book 8,5*11?
no, because I don't know the number of pages in your book. However, if you watch the video again, it shows you how to do this.
@@robcub40 thank you so much.its 100 pages
Is that for notebook!?? Can we publish notebooks too!?
Yes
What is the diffrence between pdf standard and pdf print?
I don't know but I should imagine the Print one is higher resolution and therefore the one you should use.
You can make the picture transparent to see proper text alignment.
hi, I tried this for a 8.5X11 book with 0.11 spine. In Canva this is 17.36X11.25 size. I still get the message in amazon: This image is outside the margins. Do we choose bleed or no bleed in kdp? When I choose no bleed, I don't get this remark, but still the red lines. Is it normal to have a few 'please check comments'?
I also uploaded an interior via canva and it seems that some are a bit out of the lines. HOw can I make sure this doesn't happen in canva?
You're confusing the cover with the interior. The message you are receiving from Amazon is about the interior. Only for the interior do you have the option to choose bleed or no bleed. With the cover it always has bleed. Don't do interiors in Canva!
Really appreciate this!!!
Glad it was helpful!
So how does embedding fonts work with this? Apparently that's one of the requirements for print on demand and I see nowhere on Canva that embeds the fonts into the pdf...
if you save as a PDF in Canva it will embed the fonts
Hi, a really big thank you for all the advice you give us !
I'm doing my cover with canva, but i have issues with the black color : each time i use a black background, or a picture with some black in it, my cover appears dull when i upload it to amazon... there is no problem with other colors.
I don't know if you'll be able to help me, but anyway, keep up the videos, it's really helpful !
hmmm, funny one, I've never experienced this. Have you asked Amazon about this? You could provide screenshots. Also, you could purchase the book to check out the quality of the color on the finished product?
Thank you Rob. I understand that you need a minimum of 130 pages in order to put the title in the spine, therefore increasing the cost. Is that right?
The minimum is 100 pages for spine text and that's a reasonable number.
thank you so much
Thank you so much. Saved me from having to pay someone on Fiverr
How do you located the position of the barcode box? You have to insert an empty white box so the barcode/ISBN can print there, correct?
Nope, incorrect
Hi what about copyright, is legal to use a canvas cover in amazon ? wich licence i have to use?
No. As long as you're using your own copyright material or images that are in the public domain, then it's your copyright.
@@robcub40 i mean use the ones taht canvas offers you for example in book covers section, i think you cant use it because of its terms.
Hi Rob,
what about copywright? should i mention canva in my notebook?
No. As long as you're using your own copyright material or images that are in the public domain, then it's your copyright. You wouldn't credit Adobe if you used Photoshop to create a cover!
@@robcub40 OK, yeah I know, but if I use Canva maybe I use some illustration for my cover. So i've to mantion it?
Thanks a lot for sharing Rob. Just a couple questions: Is it ok to use "gift" in a title? How would you input that title into KDP considering "It's Gin O'clock" is written on the spine and the front cover itself? Would that sentence be written just as it is on the spine? The book title made me laugh by the way ; )
Yes, Jason, the point is that what you put in the spine can override what you put on the cover. So you can get the keywords or more important information for the customer in the spine but keep the cover looking visually appealing
@@robcub40 Thanks man!
great info I have question I'm new to doing this. I have made my book covers with canva, but after I download it and make it a pdf how can I add the cover to my manuscript in word. or what am I doing wrong. I feel like its something simple I'm just missing it. thanks.
You need to upload the cover separately from the manuscript in KDP. Go to KDP and create a paperback and you'll see what I mean.
Thank you i was able to find it on my computer. I went to insert and object then Adobe and inserted my cover. Thank u for replying. Now i will do it for kindle soon
Brilliant

Thank you. Thank you.
Do you have the calculations for cream colored paper? Edit: "Amazon says Cream paper: page count x 0.0025".
It's exactly as Amazon says, Diana
@@robcub40 I saw; that's why I added the edit.
Thank you :)
You made this about 15 months ago and there quite a few knockoffs on Amazon. I was wondering how this has been performing. Is it profitable?
Don't really understand what you mean by "knockoffs" or "this". But my book selling business is still fine. I can't talk for other niches.
@@robcub40 If you search notebooks for It's gin time, you will see about a half dozen copycats of what you did in this video. So how is this Gin Time journal doing?
im subsribed rob. thanks
is the bleed always 0.25?
yes
@@robcub40 Thank you so much sir
love you rob ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaa
Sorry but I tried Canva and they said the PDF book cover was only 293 DPI (not 300 DPI) and it was REJECTED by Amazon. I tried several times to fix it and finally gave up.
Did you add an image in Canva? This cover was accepted, I wouldn't have published the video otherwise
I had the same experience.
Nice video but I wouldn’t be happy with a journal saying ‘gift for ...’ on the spine. I’d be wary of this as it’s not a good customer service experience for amazon customers.
I disagree but thanks
But Amazon requires PDF, so which of the PDF print formats works? Trial and error is very irritating.
If you watch the video, Tim, it tell you PDF Print without crops
