Yes, Emma was speaking it very well!!! My countryman ... less :-)))))) Probably he believed he was talking to a Spanish interviewer ahahahahahah Very good job Emma!!!
Mario Silva I thought that.. 🤔 Spanish & Italian are very similar 👌 - Impressive to hear EP talking Espanol.. tho a long time back I read an article on her and she can do a few more..
GCN crew; Fan for many years now. I must say, the cinematography, editing, and general "feel" of this video is a notch above the others. Whoever is doing that over there, kudos to you and keep up the excellent work.
Emma you're putting the fellas to shame with your multilingual presenting skills. But if you ever get stuck on how to pronounce parts of Canada, ask Dan, he's an expert.
Emile Goguely TCR disc and change the geometry with a bike fit if you want a more aggressive / aero position as a Propel. The TCR is more versatile and more bike for your buck.
Michael Matthews would also agree, he won Tour de France stages on his Giant TCR and the Green Jersey. At one point in last years Tour de France , a Giant TCR was ridden to 3 consecutive stage victories. Simple concept (smaller triangles = Stiffer frame) and a superb bike.
Very interesting video. I learned a lot. Keep in mind that this question is very different for a time trial or when one of us mere mortals is out riding by ourselves. The pros can now pick based on feel for most stages because the weight difference is negligible and when you’re riding in the peloton aerodynamics of the bike aren’t as important. So, it would come down to preferences for them but there is probably a different answer for our everyday rides, depending on the circumstances.
Really enjoyable video there... Didn't totally answer your own question there but kind of good to know that the aero side of things which the manufacturers always say is the most important thing, when it comes to road stages then the riders are more concerned with feel and comfort! I guess that the weight limit does make it more of a leveler in that respect and its cool to know that even aero bikes are still very close to the UCI weight limit! Thanks for the great video Emma and keep them coming!
I think it is insane how much the industry has come in 15 years. Looks like these days, with a large company like Giant and using racing wheels - the proteams can get to 6.8 without going with extreme parts.
I really appreciate your efforts to bridge the linguistic gap to include the viewpoint of an Italian mechanic at the Giro. That's very nice of you, Emma.
This is so spectacular and fascinating! Achieving the balance between aero and lightweight is the key to a successful race. Hats off to Emma and the mechanics!
The subtitles need more contrast from the background "Bold outline" perhaps. Sometimes the letters are invisible with a white background for a few seconds here and there. I find it interesting that an aero bike is only 7kg, and that the pros pick a climbing bike for stiffness to feel fast.
lucky for us who doesn't race we can ride bikes way lighter than 6.8kg, even my old Ti+alu bike is at that, certainly not as much incentives for the pros to ride climbing bikes, I think the aero Madone with suspension is the best all round solution
I'll take a lightweight, comfortable and responsive bike any day. Aero helps, but if it is weight penalty you can drop this function. The most problems with aero drag it's not with the bike, it's with the rider. Make an wind invisible cloth and you revolutionize the sport.
There are aero bikes which also have characteristics you mentioned above, Canyon aeroad is a good example. It is aero, responsive(from reviews), light compared to other aero bikes and it can climb well(also from reviews). I have also thought for this questions for years. My opinion is in a race(a random race which is not mountain stage) there is possibly more flat than climb. Having the same weight limit, why wouldnt I just take a aero bike which helps me more on the flat than a climbing bike which only helps me on the climb
Human is the biggest aero drag, I agree with this. But when the rider is not changable, then change the bike. Choosing the suitable equipments can reduce aero drag and therefore achieve a shorter time
Really? I thought her Spanish was crap but you are the Spaniard here, so you know best. the Italian guy was probably forced into this pantomime just to make believe English speakers that she is really good at it
Great video, but I respectfully disagree regarding the apparent notion that _speed_ is not effected by the _feel_ of the bike. If I'm racing on a bike that "feels" better, I'll probably be faster even if it weighs a little more or is a little less aero. Don't discount the importance of a bike's "feel".
Emma, really like your closing summary, as pros are paid to ride manufactures chosen bikes, then the UCI minimum weight limit really kills any true lightweight rim brake/ climbing bikes advantage.
Very impressed with Spanish/English! Loved Emma in "Half The Road". Still miss Matt. No on-demand Giro coverage here in US so only hear his voice on InCycle 5 min. summaries. Am wondering how well Emma is received by Men's side of the sport when doing these sorts of interviews?
If you are pushing the watts it doesnt really matter if the bike is a climbing or aero bike. We see Froome vs Nairo on climbs and Froome is massively heavier plus less aero but still pushing the watts the lighter and more aero pure climber can't. Same with Big T. Look how much heavier he is and less aero but still dominates because his sustained watts/kg is superior. All said I did cut my Venge and Emonda in half and joined them with some carbon wrap. It rides ok but the sales reps from both companies said I had voided my warranty. I dont understand why though.
I don't know why you are trolling this video DR. Except you don't care for GCN very much. Durianrider disagreeing with the video, or Emma, is a joke. She has so much more experience than you, plus she would never call 9th place a victory - LOL. WE ALL KNOW that DR's interests don't go past his personal body fat percentage, standing on (abusing) the self-righteous vegan platform, and looking for new 18 year old girls to use for boosting your channel's view count.
Now now... I love GCN, Emma AND Durianrider. Without them my interest and effort in the sport of cycling would be... almost non existent. Thanks to them, I've cut out the unhealthy living, ride whenever possible, know how to maintain my bike, know all the terminology to use at the shop, watch cycling events and have never been better. There is room for GCN, CTFU and epic trolling.
@Carl The trolling by Harley isn't epic, just bad content filling up shitty videos and usually vulgar, misdirection comments/arguments. His meltdowns, propensity to lie, level of creepiness, and degree of illusions of grandeur are epic. 30 bananas a day, his con with Freelee, his indipac racing, his vegan "festivals", and soon-to-be-over social media career are EPIC FAILS. I understand that you might like to watch train wrecks, and love Harley for his dramatic value. Schadenfreude is not my cup of tea.
Sad to see Matt go but what a great edition to the team Emma is.. 😁👍 Right, back to learning Italian with Matt Stephens 🤓 Sto avendo problemi con i pedali clipless Great video's of late BTW.. Loving the matt giro vids 🏆 and Dan looking at the pro teams bike 🚲 transportation (bike bags) not to mention the ceramic speed 🤔 and this video 👌😁👍
two things surprised me about bike choices in this years Giro. 1) none of the Trek guys are on the Domane, which would have been my choice especially on the rougher roads of Sicily and southern Italy. and 2) none of the Giant guys are on a Propel, which I would have thought might have been a pro's bike of choice on some of the faster flatter days.
In a bunch situation aero means very little as you get sucked along with everyone else regardless. However if you're a sprinter or a breakaway specialist an aero bike makes sense. If you're a climber you'll be protected the whole race by the big boys until the climbs anyway. Speeds are slower so aero advantages are much less compared with 40kph+. 500g's (6.8 vs 7.3kgs) is pretty significant on a 1000m+ climbs spread over 3weeks I'd say, especially if you weigh 60kgs dripping wet like some of these guys. And often climbing bikes are more comfortable and feel nicer to ride. Psychology is an important factor not to be overlooked.
Quite Right Emma, probably best to approach people like Vroomen, White or Renard, or even McLaren who should know a bit about cycle technology. I think a 4.5kg bike has its merits against a 7kg aero bike.
OMG!!!!! so great bilingual videos !!!!! definitely Europe is centuries ahead of USA..... great job GCN my favorite source of this beautiful culture.....
Both bike types feature wind-piercing profiles. One major difference is that triathlon bikes a.k.a tri bikes are unbound by UCI regulations, so manufacturers can design them as crazily as they like for maximum aero efficiency. Take a look at Felt's IA (significant depth-to-width ratio at the seatpost) and Cervélo's P5X (not even using the double-triangle base design), these bikes are nuts.
Interesting video. Just wondering about endurance bikes (Trek domane, Specialized Roubaix, ...) Do pro's ever use them at all (+250km races in Flanders and Roubaix)? If not, why?
I don’t have an aero bike or a 6.8 kilo bike but if I had the resources (and permission) to own whatever bikes I wanted, I’d make sure my aero bike was 6.8kg so I could get the best of both worlds with no weight penalty.
You're more likely to perform better on a bike you feel comfortable on. When you're comfortable and everything is how you want/like it, it all just works.
It would be interesting to know the value of an aero bike in the context of a large group. They make sense while riding on ones own, or in a smaller single file group. But in a bunch of 50 riders, I wonder how much the disturbed air impacts the air tunnel numbers and watt savings. GCN how about some science?
since UCI has a weight limit 6.8 kg, and the aero bike only weight around 7kg nowadays,I think the "light weight" climbing bike has not much benefit . I have changed my tcr to madone disc for a while and they both climb well.
I'd err on the side of the aero frame unless there is a plan to attack late in a stage with a mountaintop finish. Otherwise there are too many chance to regret not having that extra bit of speed and recovery, trivial as it seems. Especially since today's "aero road" frames really are not much heavier than the "climbing" bikes unless you're making a hill climb special and don't have to hit any minimum weight limits.
Ok so for pros who can ride at insane speeds up hill it's maybe still aero but for us amateurs the wind resistance would be lower. Can we see a video of at what speed the advantage of aero is seen against the weight saving of lightweight bikes on differing gradients.
if bike is chosen based on feel, shouldn't that be domane, instead of emonda or madone? And there shouldn't be any obstacle to equip an emonda frame with aero wheels and isospeed bar and seat.
Yeah... you guys landed your butt in the butter bringing Emma Pooley on. Brains & charisma that just sucks viewers in with every new video. Here's a question inspired by recent headlines: in the mold of Benedict Cumberbach, is she getting the same salary as the male presenters at GCN? She's certainly worth it. No growing pains here... she's a natural.
Maybe an areo bike isn't quite as important because most of the riders are in the middle of the peloton and not in the wind. A different story for those of us who dont ride in a group of 100 most of the time :)
Every single one of those bike (aside from the TT) can be 6.8kg so when they say they want a lighter bike for climbing, they could use a traditional bike or aero, it really doesn't matter. Ride feel, that's all. I have an old crusty (by today's standards) 2010 Cervelo S2 with a mix of Red and Force, under 15lb running tubeless wheels, and that wasn't even really pushing the envelope with anything.
05:20. IMPRESSED. Good job on your Spanish, Emma! Really good!
I thought it was Italian
You're not too far off. Enrico Penga was cheating a bit by mixing up the two languages :)
Emma spoke spanish (i'm impresed) but Enrico was talking in Italian. (I'm spanish)
maybe the guy did't know English, and could hear Spanish.
It was a little mix of Spanish and Italian!
Emma swears, speaks Spanish, is incredibly smart, races like a demon, and can pull off wearing 2 pairs of glasses... she is too good for us!
Daniel Ellis Haha, cheers Daniel!
Daniel Ellis yeah - she’s a potty mouth.
Emma for president !
I'd be ok if cloning was allowed to test with her lol
I'm in love with Emma, she's an amazing part of the team...why did she have to leave, 😭
Emma doing an awesome job.
David W Cheers David!
Also, Awesome lady doing her job.
Emma! You keep surprising me! Great job first of all and then Spanish on top of it?? Well done :)
Ulaş Çakır Cheers Ulas!
And German in the Bora kitchen clip don't forget!
At Trek Segafredo the riders are kings -- at Sunweb, team members ...
An English and an Italian trying to speak Spanish...... best!
Hai ragione, troppo belli!!!! :-))))))
Emma wasn't trying, she was actually speaking it
Yes, Emma was speaking it very well!!!
I loved that part of the clip!
😂
Loved the French too.. 'if they change their mind at the last minute, you're f$%^ed. Love Emma!! Super interesting video and super entertaining!
Oh-TAH-wah
Would love to hear him have a stab at Saskatchewan!
Emma has just become my favorite GCN/GTN/GMBN presenter! Un abrazo desde Mexico!
I have a TCR and Propel. TCR all the way. Its a brilliant all rounder, sprinter and climber 👍😎👌
Oh yeah? I'm on my propel SL (upgraded brakes) I could fancy a disc bike, a bike torn between sl6disc/tcrdisc/propeldisc
Emile Goguely TCR disc and change the geometry with a bike fit if you want a more aggressive / aero position as a Propel. The TCR is more versatile and more bike for your buck.
When do you take the Propel out?
Michael Matthews would also agree, he won Tour de France stages on his Giant TCR and the Green Jersey. At one point in last years Tour de France , a Giant TCR was ridden to 3 consecutive stage victories. Simple concept (smaller triangles = Stiffer frame) and a superb bike.
I ride propel at the moment but I really want a new tcr or maybe even one of those fancy titanium climbing frames
Emma for the win.
Glad you found the video interesting!
Wow, didn't know Emma spoke Spanish so well! I am continually more impressed with her - so glad she's consistently presenting for GCN!
I like her, she‘s doing a great job.
We agree there, Emma is great!
We lost Matt but we got Emma!
Really enjoyable video there... Didn't totally answer your own question there but kind of good to know that the aero side of things which the manufacturers always say is the most important thing, when it comes to road stages then the riders are more concerned with feel and comfort! Glad you enjoyed the video John, stay tuned for plenty more!
Emma kills it once more in 5, 4, 3, 2... 05:15 😮
Definitely learned it in Spain. Rolled the r's nicely too.
I think it is insane how much the industry has come in 15 years.
Looks like these days, with a large company like Giant and using racing wheels - the proteams can get to 6.8 without going with extreme parts.
I'm glad to see a woman with the GCN team, very professional and speaks Spanish-Italian, good point. So, another reason to be a fan of GCN show.
Alvaro Cuesta For sure!
I’m lucky enough to have neither!
Make sure you send Emma to the Vuelta. ¡No puedo esperar!
Must...purchase...Emonda!
I'm also loving those disk installations.. great video GCN, thanks again ; )
Emma wee need a GCN presenter challenge with you! Thank you for your dedication! You are a real PRO!
I really appreciate your efforts to bridge the linguistic gap to include the viewpoint of an Italian mechanic at the Giro. That's very nice of you, Emma.
Emma on GCN is like fine wine. Post-Emma... Paint thinner.
Joking. Still love you guys.
This is so spectacular and fascinating!
Achieving the balance between aero and lightweight is the key to a successful race. Hats off to Emma and the mechanics!
Glad you found it as interesting as us Omaris!
Thanks a lot! (^_-)v
Kudos to Emma for the spanish, loved it :)
her Spanish was better than the Italian mechanic's. He kept switching between Spanish and Italian.
The subtitles need more contrast from the background "Bold outline" perhaps. Sometimes the letters are invisible with a white background for a few seconds here and there. I find it interesting that an aero bike is only 7kg, and that the pros pick a climbing bike for stiffness to feel fast.
Thanks for the suggestion M4X THR0TT1E, we will see what we can do
kudos Emma for asking technical questions, and not gimmicks
I will always miss Matt's laugh, but my word Emma is AMAZING! GCN is all the better for having her on the team.
lucky for us who doesn't race we can ride bikes way lighter than 6.8kg, even my old Ti+alu bike is at that, certainly not as much incentives for the pros to ride climbing bikes, I think the aero Madone with suspension is the best all round solution
5:33 - so, it does not matter. Whatever you like, is " normal' "
I'll take a lightweight, comfortable and responsive bike any day. Aero helps, but if it is weight penalty you can drop this function. The most problems with aero drag it's not with the bike, it's with the rider. Make an wind invisible cloth and you revolutionize the sport.
But I think they could build Aero bikes under the weight limit... Idk why the don't do that...

Aero only comes into play when you're soloing or leading the pack anyway.
Don't worry my friend, I will wait for you at the finish line.
I think for the mountain stages it comes down to whether you want the lightweight advantage for the climb or the aero advantage for the descent.
What is a good road bike where you can do anything on.
Props to Emma for nailing the accent!
All very beautiful bikes. My dream bikes actually. In the end, it's the rider's derermination and the will to win the counts.
Emma wins again
emmas spanish was amazing
Really? I thought her Spanish was crap but you are the Spaniard here, so you know best. the Italian guy was probably forced into this pantomime just to make believe English speakers that she is really good at it
salvatore mannino We think pretty good considering Enrico was talking back in Italian
Emma Pooley and you and the mechanics performed great 😁

Just got a Avanti corsa dr team handles dura ace group set for $2800aud. Used. Immaculate condition. Very happy.😁
From espanglish to itañol.... Good brava!
That`s exactly what it was
Eso ha estado muy bien, Emma!. Great video, you made a whole lot of new fans in the Spanish speaking countries.

Cheers Mountain Goat Yeti, stay tuned for plenty more Giro content!
Great job Emma. Now I am going to listen to my Spanish lesson while I ride 40 miles in Sonoma!
Ride on
what a fantastic performance in your spanish!!!!! Grande Emma!!! we loves you
Wow, Emma does so well, she asks all the questions I want to know.
Roxic12 Great to hear!
Where does the pinarello dogma fit in then? All rounder? A bit of both? Or more aero than climbing?
GCN boys: we're going to teach you how to interview multinational teams.
Emma: Hold my beer...
Not you Dan.
😆
Wait... so Emma asked in Spanish, he replied in Italian... that was just awesome!
That's what we thought!
Emmaaaa
Cheers!
The Merida guy answered the most truthfully
two things surprised me about bike choices in this years Giro. 1) none of the Trek guys are on the Domane, which would have been my choice especially on the rougher roads of Sicily and southern Italy. and 2) none of the Giant guys are on a Propel, which I would have thought might have been a pro's bike of choice on some of the faster flatter days.
I was wondering what the little box on the seat post of the Giants where?
5:15 Wow!!!! I had no idea! Emma has many talents!!!!!!! Love your videos!!! :)
CAIrondad Glad you enjoyed the video!
"It's all about the feeling, not the weight."
Until confronting a 15% slope ahead.
Oye, Emma, eres una máquina!! Congrats on your Spanish. You’re nailing your “c’s”!!

Emma, you continue to amaze us Great job

Hearing that mixture of Spanish and Italian was so, so pleasant! BTW, interesting answers, specially if you compare them with the ones of past years!
Mauricio Alsina Lee Cheers!
Emma I see that you use correct glass, could you tell me which sports correct glass
you use ?
could you make a video please of whats the difference between aero bikes and triathlon bikes. The frames look very similar and i was just curious.
Both bike types feature wind-piercing profiles. Interesting video. Just wondering about endurance bikes (Trek domane, Specialized Roubaix, ...) Do pro's ever use them at all (+250km races in Flanders and Roubaix)? If not, why?
Emma entrevistando en español, excelente, eso le dará un plus al canal
Gracias!
She speaks spanish and she loves bike! I'm in love
I don’t have an aero bike or a 6.8 kilo bike but if I had the resources (and permission) to own whatever bikes I wanted, I’d make sure my aero bike was 6.8kg so I could get the best of both worlds with no weight penalty.

Emma bringing the heat to the table.... and cusses 👏 F@#k yes! 👍
You're more likely to perform better on a bike you feel comfortable on. When you're comfortable and everything is how you want/like it, it all just works.
I rode a Scott Foil (the generation when it went aero) once, that bike's front end is too light for me. Rode a Venge V3, liked it quite a lot.
Emma!! WoW, communicating in Spanish wile the guys speaks Italian... Good job on communicating greatly using to languages
Cheers for the Spanish revision... exam is Friday
Matt Parsons Good luck, Matt! 🇪🇸
Good luck Matt!
Global Cycling Network haha cheers everyone! Didn’t realise I’d get so much support from a passing comment!
Global Cycling Network it was a really nice paper, went well cheers guys!!
It would be interesting to know the value of an aero bike in the context of a large group. They make sense while riding on ones own, or in a smaller single file group. Top marks for this video. Is Emma no longer presenting on GCN?

Emma is such a rockstar!
Maybe an areo bike isn't quite as important because most of the riders are in the middle of the peloton and not in the wind. A different story for those of us who dont ride in a group of 100 most of the time :)
Good point Matt
Great video, Emma. Loved the piece in Italian. Interesting that aero bikes aren’t as preferred as I expected.
It was esperanto
Glad you found the video as interesting as us!
Nice one Emma. Good to see a presenter with language skills other than English.
Emma is amazing!!! great hire
Michael Le Rossignol Cheers Michael!
Aero is everything, shave your legs to compensate for the additional grams. Love Emma!
You .just have a lot of leg hair
You must have a lot of leg hair

Yes!
Itañol in full glory! Love it!
Great concise interviews and questions!
Nice spanish-italian mix!

For which stage was this? Pretty interesting that some teams are split 50/50
