@@jamesscott2611 Pretty basic story. If you are a fan of body horror or are a fan of creatures that look like the thing, then yeah, it is good. The voice acting is good, and I haven't encountered any bugs at all. My only issue with it is the action sequences where you have to click and hold to jump on a platform or open a door, but that's a personal nitpick of mine
Nice use of Checkov's Gun with the carving. the PODD is not a drill: It's how they "get rid" of those who become too troublesome (and perhaps enthralled by it): By feeding them to it.
Hoter is the hydraulic drill, poter is the "pneumatic drill". This is why the story includes Hoter, and that the military loves their acronyms. You are right that it's not a drill, but it's still named (foreshadowed) as one. Great writing in this story.
it's also how they keep it calm. "there's always a way to calm it down" also explains why the captain seems so sad and says that he's sorry for sending him down in the sub.
He offered himself up to be part of the people they feeds to the leviathan. They're offered up during those cycles to the monster or the gate. Good story though!!
This has to be one of the better story’s of this type I’ve heard on RUclips. Good job, really held my attention to the end. I’m going to subscribe to see what else you have.
I want to take a moment to just say your sound design is absolutely incredible (and I feel that’s an understatement) in all of your videos. I feel like I’m mentally watching a movie with the way you put everything together. You deserve many awards for the work you put in.
There’s got to be something go on here with the literal sirens and the mythological sirens song. The word “siren” also is thought to literally have its roots in words meaning “rope, cord, tie, fasten, binder and entangler.” In the Odyssey, Odysseus has to be tied to his ship to avoid being lured in by the sirens. The song is is alluring and promises to reveal truths. If a man hears the song, but doesn’t leave satisfied, and stays to satisfy more curiosity, he is doomed and death becomes certain. I’d be shocked if this wasn’t intentional.
Since "Still wakes the Deep" is out it would be very fitting to make another oil rig horror story. Please make one oil rig horror stories are my favorite.
This presentation in my opinion is a masterpiece! The characters pop so perfectly that I have virtual memories of their faces and clothes, and the story is so full and gripping It plays in my minds eye like it is an all time favorite movie of mine that I just can't find a video copy of. It almost sets the bar so high that other stories are just a way to pass time until another rare gem comes along, like a sequel maybe? Bravo sir.
The fore shadowing in this story is truly something great. You are given all these little bits throughout but it was never obvious. Finally at the end it all comes together and you're like oh shi- Don't trust podder bro or else you get pacmanned
------------- SPOILER -------------- When he found the markings behind the bookcase there was a drawing of a "Pacman" eating a square. Later they sent him down in the "Pneumatic Operated Deep Drill" or "PODD" for short, a square like mining drill to collect seabed samples. The people going with him in the square are probably called "Podders".

Heh, I already knew the rest of the poem at 40:00 Below the thunders of the upper deep; Far far beneath in the abysmal sea, His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee About his shadowy sides: above him swell Huge sponges of millennial growth and height; And far away into the sickly light, From many a wondrous grot and secret cell Unnumber’d and enormous polypi Winnow with giant fins the slumbering green. There hath he lain for ages and will lie Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep Until the latter fire shall heat the deep; Then once by men and angels to be seen, In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Remember the drawing of the square with a line through it he found on the wall in the library? It had a pacman like mouth under it, like it was going to eat the box. He's going down in that box. The white beard guy said sadly "there's always a way" - to pacify the entity. He was a sacrifice, possibly chosen by the entity itself, hence the song he heard in his head
Did we ever find out who Potters was? Edit: Thanks to Gespach 0 for answering. 1:14:45 The Potter is the robo "drill" sent down. The actual feeding device is the pneumatic drill, however, which is described as a metal box with a crack that runs down the middle 1:15:15. This is describing a feeding trough, which ferries live victims to the monster before opening, letting it catch its prey as they drown in the depths.
@@gespacho0902 good catch, I had misheard that as "hoetter" (phoneticized). Figs must not have realized that it's the pneumatic drill which is the feeding trough, rather than the Potter.

SPOILER ALERT!!!! I think the narrator is being fed to the entity at the end along with all the others who ask too many questions, want to know too much, think of it this way the entity would probably need to eat or have sacrifices given to it to keep it in a controlable state, and as for the drill described at the end, the floor had a crack down the center, and the drawing behind the book case, the hlaf circle is described as a maw. The creature caught the narrator with its gaze and from there he was doomed, unable to stop himself from seeking more answers leading him right into the jaws of the beast.

It's so nice to hear a story where the monster isn't the only plot device, I really enjoyed this one!
Nice use of Checkov's Gun with the carving.
the PODD is not a drill: It's how they "get rid" of those who become too troublesome (and perhaps enthralled by it): By feeding them to it.
Man, that is deep
Oh I do love a good Chekhov's Gun in my stories
Hoter is the hydraulic drill, poter is the "pneumatic drill".
This is why the story includes Hoter, and that the military loves their acronyms.
You are right that it's not a drill, but it's still named (foreshadowed) as one. Great writing in this story.

im assuming the gate is to hell because of the leviathan stuff
I kinda think that somenow he wants the gate to open to see whats behind it, perhaps like Pandora's box?

There’s got to be something go on here with the literal sirens and the mythological sirens song. The word “siren” also is thought to literally have its roots in words meaning “rope, cord, tie, fasten, binder and entangler.”
In the Odyssey, Odysseus has to be tied to his ship to avoid being lured in by the sirens. The song is is alluring and promises to reveal truths. If a man hears the song, but doesn’t leave satisfied, and stays to satisfy more curiosity, he is doomed and death becomes certain.
I’d be shocked if this wasn’t intentional.
This. THIS is how you tell a story.

Heh, I already knew the rest of the poem at 40:00
Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides: above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber’d and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant fins the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by men and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Remember the drawing of the square with a line through it he found on the wall in the library? It had a pacman like mouth under it, like it was going to eat the box.
He's going down in that box.

That's the only question I had. Maybe the military.
It was the underwater drill that reg gets sent to with the rest of the crew that knows too much
