I used to live in Scotland and know some people who had worked on the piper alpha, probably the most infamous rig prior to the deep blue horizon - ooops, wasn’t 100% sure of the name, looked it up & it’s the deep water horizon, and it happened in 2010, so shocked that was 14 years ago - anyway, the piper alpha obviously reverberated through the community. One anecdote that has stuck with me was that the heat was so intense, it was melting helicopter windows. Spooky monster stories are nowhere as frightening as the banality of (human) evil, and the callous indifference of late-stage capitalism corporations.
I saw “strange rules” & almost broke my thumbs pressing play 🤣! I love your stories & appreciate the time & effort you put into making them, thank you! 🙂
Watching this while I'm on a deepwater oil drillship in the Gulf of Mexico. Been out here 170 of 190 days this year. 14 years in O&G. Most people can't handle it.
Hmmm so here’s my interpretation, whatever is down there, probably a kraken or something akin to it is influencing the rig in a lovecraftian sense Because of the oil rig is connected to it the rig has become a part of it, I won’t say the rig is alive but whatever eldritch creature elder god thing is down there, it’s almost like the rig is a part of it Remember Jean said to wear the pin to show your a part of it, almost like you could say the pin makes you a white blood cell in a sense The red door my guess is that it leads to the “heart” of the rig? So that’s why oil seeped out of it for days after it had been opened like a cut or something? The drilling platform is maybe it’s voice? Why would it want to hear other voices when it’s the only one that should be speaking? Don’t look East because that is where it’s gazing maybe? Wednesday is when it feeds? The 7th to me is what ties it together because it’s got such a powerful hold and influence over the crew by this point they commit the sacrifice with their many hands, almost like a krakens many tentacles reaching out for its prey… Just my interpretation though I enjoyed this story and maybe sully should see about getting a job at a grocery store or I bet the zoo down the street from barnabys is hiring, maybe a lonely old radio station needs a new DJ?
Bacon is not red meat. Update: I researched it, and it turns out bacon is classified as red meat, because it contains more myoglobin than fish or chicken. Guess I put my foot in my mouth on that one….
I stopped in the midden of the story to look for this comment. I've never heard of bacon being red meat. I thought pork was known as "the other white meat". I guess they could have given them turkey bacon then for that 1 day.
@@Its_slimbabyy I guess that ad campaign wasn't accurate then. Look up "pork the other white meat". It was an advertising campaign in the 80s/90s. Growing up back then and not having any internet to learn otherwise it made me think that pork was white meat.
I actually worked offshore on oil rigs and pipe bargea in my early twenties. It is true that the sea can play trick with your mind and being out there with nothing but deep blue acean around you can get unnerving for some.
I never had the opportunity to ask someone like you, if you care to answer of course! -Is the platform quite stable or do you feel a bit of the movements of the sea in general? -Is there an oil smell around all the time or is it just when some accident or mess happens? -Did you worry during storms or did you felt quite at ease? -Did you get bored a lot outside of your schedule? Thank you regardless if you decide to answer or not, I know my questions aren't exactly deep, but it's a bit of curiosity. As a teen I got the chance to visit a platform while it was at our port, I don't recall why it was there, but it was nice. Sucks that it sunk I think it was the oil rig P-36, it sank in 2001, 11 of the 175 died sadly.
@@Mangaka-ml6xo I will try my best to answer your questions. Stability? Yeah it was pretty stable, but you could still feel some movement in a high sea state. So there is a bit of connections, and some possible aspects to what and why the rules are as they are. Rules of Survival: 1) Always keep the Silver Pin, with a depiction of what I presume is a Kraken attacking/eating a whale. Note he states: It makes it so *they* know you are part of the crew, *they* can't take you before your time. This is heavily implies that there is something, that will take, and kill crew members without the pins. 2) Never open, walk in, or even touch the single Red Door. Take note, that Joe who went in there, and after some time, it started to leak oil. 3) Don't look at or into the eastern ocean after sunset. Description of what he saw, was likely the thing that produces the oil, raising up out of the water. 4) Do not speak unless spoken too, at/in the drill room. This is likely, to make sure the Kraken, doesn't hear you, and well hone in on you and make you a snack. 5) No red meat on Wednesdays. Most likely, the Chefs feeding whatever else is on the rig, so they don't get hunted. 6) Always respond to the bell when it rings 3 times. As they head into a Safe Room, this is very obvious, whatever is outside, is hungry, and is searching for food. 7) Everyone joins the Raffle. With what/how one of the managers reacted before, when it came to this rule, fear, means it is something they have to do. This is likely a way to bind whatever lives there in place. As it becomes like a binding peace offering every 3 months. --- There is many things the Raffle can be, it can also be what becomes the red meat later. And the description of everyone being quite anxious, and sad, knowing fully, they have to either tear a human apart, or ritualistic cannibalism to keep whatever else is on the rig at bay. It as said can mean a lot of things. The chefs can also be the things as the "they". We don't really get to know more than them being chefs.

Spooky monster stories are nowhere as frightening as the banality of (human) evil, and the callous indifference of late-stage capitalism corporations.
Under water welding too lol
I saw “strange rules” & almost broke my thumbs pressing play 🤣! I love your stories & appreciate the time & effort you put into making them, thank you! 🙂
*finally* a youtuber who does voices to differentiate characters and is good and not cringe. fantastic
Watching this while I'm on a deepwater oil drillship in the Gulf of Mexico. Been out here 170 of 190 days this year. 14 years in O&G. Most people can't handle it.
Hats off to you, sir 🪖
Hmmm so here’s my interpretation, whatever is down there, probably a kraken or something akin to it is influencing the rig in a lovecraftian sense
Because of the oil rig is connected to it the rig has become a part of it, I won’t say the rig is alive but whatever eldritch creature elder god thing is down there, it’s almost like the rig is a part of it
Remember Jean said to wear the pin to show your a part of it, almost like you could say the pin makes you a white blood cell in a sense
The red door my guess is that it leads to the “heart” of the rig? So that’s why oil seeped out of it for days after it had been opened like a cut or something?
The drilling platform is maybe it’s voice? Why would it want to hear other voices when it’s the only one that should be speaking?
Don’t look East because that is where it’s gazing maybe?
Wednesday is when it feeds?
The 7th to me is what ties it together because it’s got such a powerful hold and influence over the crew by this point they commit the sacrifice with their many hands, almost like a krakens many tentacles reaching out for its prey…
Just my interpretation though I enjoyed this story and maybe sully should see about getting a job at a grocery store or I bet the zoo down the street from barnabys is hiring, maybe a lonely old radio station needs a new DJ?
Interesting theories. I'd prefer working as a meteorologist on an island inhabited by monkeys.
At this point rather take a lonely broadcasting station or the gas station on the edge of town
Good interpretation
Bacon is not red meat.
Update: I researched it, and it turns out bacon is classified as red meat, because it contains more myoglobin than fish or chicken. Guess I put my foot in my mouth on that one….
No mammals, nor Muscovy ducks
I stopped in the midden of the story to look for this comment. I've never heard of bacon being red meat. I thought pork was known as "the other white meat". I guess they could have given them turkey bacon then for that 1 day.
Pig and cow meat is red meat lol
It’s pork ? Anything that’s not a fish or poultry is red meat
The pylons are filled with sea water to helo with that. The only area that I thought smelled if oil and other smells was the drilling floor and the mud module uaes foe drilling. Most storm we would ride out, but fir steong tropical depressions and hurricanes we were flown in to shore. Finally yeah, there were times I got bired, but my schedule was pretty constant with little down time, so mostly I just focused on working and sleeping.
@@wallacetillery5557 Nice! Thank you very much for having taken your time to answer my questions. 👍👍
@@wallacetillery5557 Nice, thank you very much, it is much appreciated and am grateful you took some of your time to answer my somewhat generic questions. 👍👍
true
Hey, this story is refreshing in the way the rules are released gradually over time, so to speak.
It's suddenly clear at the end why the last rule is a secret. That's some fine print there!
I want a lighthouse story about a listener who doesn't follow the rules to the videos hes listening to & only realizes his own reality has melded into the videos hes listening to when its a little too late. Lighthouse inception if you will
Were you planning on writing that? It'd be cool.
Yhat would be a good one😊
Nah
Yea this is a good idea, u should get on it!!
I do love the voices used to tell the story. Keep up the amazing work.
Lovin those voices. Peerrrffecctttt.
I love how how his blue collar oil rig worker accent is just a Boston accent
In the Gulf it would be Cajun, Texan, or Mexican dialect 90% of the time.
IT'S LIGHTHOUSE TIME!
(grab your blanky!)
We would soo get along!!😂
Got my blankie!
Yippee can we have hot chocy?
Kraken is a producing heavy oil field located in shallow water in the UK and is operated by EnQuest Heather. According to GlobalData, who tracks more than 34,000 active and developing oil and gas fields worldwide, the field is located in block 9/2b ALL, with water depth of 408 feet.
We go wherever the kraken does
Ok?
You should be a little suspicious when a contract says there is a bonus "if" you finish the contract and not "when".
My sense of humour is truly broken if I thought "Who's Joe? JOE MAMA" at "You don't want to end up like Joe"
NAH😭
I'd be freaked out too if I saw a sunset in the east.
The sun sets in the west.
Thanks a lot, now I've got to go back and listen again if the warning was don't watch the sunset in the east or don't look east at sunset. 😂
Edit: okay so he looked east after sunset. It does sound like Gene says "at the sunset" but it's "afta sunset" 9:22
This is clearly in an alternate universe
Spotted that straight away. . . . .
You put that little bit of extra effort in to this story which sets you apart from other channels. A handful of voice effects and sound effects brought it to life. First video I have watched, now I will binge your channel.
If the ship's rocking, don't come knocking. No one's going to let you in. RIP Barker
I avoided ocean creepypastas for years! Never digged'em. But I gave this one a chance and... I was blown away!!!
Yes
No! No stopping THERE! PLEASE tell me there are more in this setting!
It's better to end there, Lovecraft horror becomes dull when it's too explained
@@duckmeat4674True but to compare this with Lovecraft is a stretch...
@@melfreemans referring to the genre, not the author himself
I found this to be a disappointing stopping point.
@@deportsuperman Agreed! Dealing with a mysterious unknown entity is great, but they led up to an event and then dropped the ball. Like ending a movie right before the climax.
I’m so glad that you have kept on doing your personal presentation on the stories you narrate! I always watch you on my iPad so I can see YOU telling ME a story
It’s great Stephen! & it makes the whole thing a real time out stress reliever & just a kind of special treat.😎🌈✌️
"That door, you never go open it no matter what you hear."
Welp guess we know what he's opening.
Edit: Just finished. They never opened the door. Nice.
Rules are meant to be followed lol
This needs to be a movie... great narration, the entire story was absorbing...
Scariest part of all this... is that I can actually see this being a reality.
Figuratively speaking, it is.
The story exists, but the contents are (probably not) real
Indeed, someone being so deluded that they think a story like this could actually happen is quite scary. And to think, there are probably more of you! :o
@@kangarookangaroo702 Not literally. It's symbolic of how we worker bees are basically being paid to risk our lives and limbs so some fatcat in an air conditioned office halfway across the country can get obscenely rich. The monster under the rig represents corporate America.
Part 511 of thanking the lighthouse horror for the amazing narrations
That last part hits like a train. If they had to offer up a sacrifice that’s one thing, but the workers being forced to be a part of it all…for hours…and how some have gone through this multiple times
I was curious it never tell us what they did. Did they ripped Clive apart or what??🤔
I think this was just a story, somewhat fictional
As a RL frac worker for 15 years I can say the worst part about working an ocean rig or land well is the waiting... There is so many times you just sit hour after hour. And you have to stay at your spot even if doing nothing for 10 hours. It seriously drives you crazy. Its much worse than the physical work
why do you have to wait and do nothing for hours on end?
Rules to surviving Walmart
1. If a manager says something to you whispering you can see me can save your life
2. If the coke man shows up before 3am throw bread at him
3. If a man named Matt claiming to be the store manager walks toward yell not today Satan he'll leave you alone
4. Never fall asleep before 2 am you'll wake up in a alternative universe
5. Crack heads are the guardians against evil
Matt 😂
Crazy
Wouldn't be surprised based on my brother's 3-4 years working there
I have 86'd more men named Matt than any other namesake
After listening to this story, I would never even think about working on an oil rig!
that’s one thing i noticed is in all of these stories the main character starts to question the rules a little too much or gets too comfortable i assume it’s done on purpose to teach us a simple warning of don’t question it just follow the rules and collect your pay when you are done which if i ever had a job with strange rules if it was safe to i would make a list of the rules keep it on me at all times and follow them without question as long as i made the money they were promising me there would be no issues
Man,this dude has had one heck of a life full of strange lists of rules.... gas stations, fire towers, grocery stores and now oil rigs. Good grief!
"This oil rig... has a dark secret..."
Do you mean the oil?
Best voice on the internet!
Definitely. Was better, before he started appearing on screen, but....still good! Not that I hate looking at him, I just think the narration has changed. More pauses or something
Oof. That last part was nauseating. A tension headache did start up at the same time, so it was probably just that. It's the thought on thick fluid that smells like rotten eggs being poured down your throat. Nasty.
Was already listening to one of your videos now to fall asleep, thank you, i love your channel so much, i would love love love to hear more Forest and Firetower stories ❤
“Rule one, don’t mess with the super mutant in power armor that can rip a deathclaw in half”
I kind of want to know what they did at the end... like did they rip him apart? eat him? did I miss something .__.
Been wondering the same thing. Here I am in comments trying to figure it out and still nothing 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
@@stephaniereynolds361 I am kind of assuming by the 'hands on him' thing that they were like... ripping him apart? but the whole 'screams for hours' thing makes me thing it was idk maybe like eating him slowly?
That’s what I was thinking but how do u rip someone apart w just ur hands … even w multiple ppl trying? Not only that but what was the point of making him drink the oil and what part did it play, if any? And how was he screaming for hours? Shouldn’t he have eventually passed out from the pain and died? Idk … it’s silly all the time I put into figuring these things out when it’s fake anyway and could never be real. But I try making it make sense and needing all the details 😂😂😂
Clearly none of y’all have been in a cult before🙄..
All hail the Magic Conch 🐚!!
This is why I can’t do books like this I need high description in Graphic detail😂 can’t just leave me hanging now I’m pissed off 🤣 im still thinking about whats behind the damn red door that was never discussed further 😭
Very well written and narrated.
I knew what was coming pretty early on but I didn't care, this was a great ride!
One of these needs to become a series. Tales from the Kraken
Dude, appreciate the visuals on this one. Gotta say the ending was a bit abrupt, but the story was excellent.
Stories on oil rigs are always so cool
I love how you actually show yourself telling the story at the start. Makes it that much better.
There’s a moment you say “relax, son” and my Alexa reacted and replied. I was in the bed preparing to sleep and I almost had a heart attack, I thought there was someone talking to me from the corner of my room lol
Your story telling and voice acting is superb. I like having you as the visual, the editing and otherwise as well. Props for not being like every other creepy pasta narrator, you go above and beyond and it shows.
these stories are interesting in that the main source of horror is not the monsters or unexplainable, but the cruel and heartless behavior dictated by rules from people or things beyond comprehension. The forced inhumanity for sake of maintaining profit margins. Absolutely a horror story birthed from the mind of a person bathed in neoliberal capitalism.
Thanks for the amazing story! Really glad I didn't hear this one 20 years ago when my husband was working out there! Much love from SW Louisiana ❤!
Gotta unlock that red crate and get ready for the heavy scientists
I'm so glad corporate recently fixed the "wear the button in the shower" thing. Now we get a little implant and a tattoo! Thanks and keep serving the ancient ones! 😊
Why did they all touch him at the end? Hopefully the amazing lighthouse horror team can make more of these rules stories 🤞
The ending is confusing
I myself worked on a rig and it was very tough . After your shift you got 12 hours off but goodness it went by so fast
Having worked offshore, production platforms and drill ships, I loved this. They author did some good research. Is the Kraken a platform or MODU?
The joy of "strange rules." Thank you, thank you.
why do they always gotta end right at the good part
A new Lighthouse was the cherry on top of a wonderful day! Those of you that know I had a horrific birthday might be pleased to know that today I rescued a sick kitty from euthanasia (AGAIN) after being on the street for almost 6 weeks! He's in my room, warm, clean, fed, and since I'm an LVT/RVT he's going to have full medical care round the clock. If any of you are interested in the story, or his updates, let me know. Anyway, like I said, this Lighthouse tale is perfecting my fabulous day!
Thanks, LH!
P.S. "Nick Kitty" says, Hello to all our fellow LH fans!😽🐾💙🐾
So glad there's wonderful and kind people like you in the world!

Give us a small sample of some crazy shyt. The people will promptly tell you whether or not you are full of Poo. Go... We're all ear lobes 👂🏾👀👂🏾
Write them! It doesn't matter if people believe them or not, they seem crazy interesting!
As someone who has worked on offshore oil rigs, TLP’s, SPARs, & Derrick barges for 27 years, the author paints a pretty accurate account of life in the oil field. Minus the supernatural portion of course. Unless you count all the damn Gravity defying capsules and ball shaped objects seen exiting and entering the water with no disturbance to the surface tension. I seen my first one when I was 23 years old and working on the DB 50 in the Vermillion Bay Area of the GOM. It had such an effect on my sense of “world as we know it “ state of mind, it started me on a journey for truth that listening to this channel and others like it is a fortuitous result of my interest in the unexplained. Bravo Author 👏👏👏! And narrator of course! 👏👏👏
We're currently on anchor in Grand Isle. We just finished with our SPS. I was work on a TLP in Green Canyon for a while.
They did do a great job with this story.
@@leegray2441 Well sir I know when we were at port or dry dock it was a chore to stay out of trouble. I hope you have better luck than I did. 😂. Enjoy your hitch and stay safe!
Please tell us about these capsules and ball shaped objects entering/exiting the water!
😬This was so riveting, it deserves to be converted into a big screen movie.
"That's why we got these rules. You'll learn each of them when the time comes, to keep the narrative interesting. Because people kept complaining when all the rules were laid out in the beginning and the protagonist just broke them all like an idiot."
those rules are written with blood. it's one of those places where a mistake results in a lost limb.
Shhh. Secret rules. Especially the last one, that you don’t know about. lol
Dude witnesses 2 murders now, others many more times, but they’re like, yeap, guess I’ll renew my contract. lol 🤣

Good gracious, that was excellent Light. Thank you so much and you have a great weekend and everyone else as well.
Just keep on uploading Strange rules story Im in love with it that too with your narration. Amazing vid as always
Love the strange rules stories. This was definitely a strange but good story, thanks for sharing. 💕💕
De manier hoe je het verhaal vertelt, is zo interessant. Heb gister dit kanaal ontdekt en vind het echt geweldig. Heerlijke stem om naar te luisteren en wordt goed vertelt. Blijf zo door gaan
yes ❤
Wait is there going to be another continuation!!??? I loved the story but I really want a proper ending. Did they sacrifice him, start eating parts of him, or rip him apart? Is he going to go back? So many left over questions 😅
I think that's the point. The author left the last part up for interpretation. Honestly it is more terrifying that way.
I sure wasn't ready for that ending! 😳🦑🤯⚘️🙋♀️
After working in factories my entire adult life I have learned the unwritten rules are usually the most important rules to follow. Mainly because they are made from the people that have done what you do and know better than you what can happen
I swear if it wasn't for these videos. My hour-long drive homes will be awful every time I see a new video post. It's unlike yay, I get to listen to something other then the radio.
This was cool. My grandfather ran the chevron / transocean sedco rigs off of Angola. He had the first golf course built in Angola per the same.
I actually worked on Oil Rigs in the Gulf of Mexico as a service technician. I’d take boats offshore or helicopters
That was a time of adventure and a lot of stress 😂and a lot of times: extreme boredom !
I learned to either sleep through it somehow or read a book on those trips to and from the rig.
Why don't I ever see anything crazy like this?!
Yay! A new story time!
So there is a bit of connections, and some possible aspects to what and why the rules are as they are.
Rules of Survival:
1) Always keep the Silver Pin, with a depiction of what I presume is a Kraken attacking/eating a whale.
---
There is many things the Raffle can be, it can also be what becomes the red meat later.
I'm new here.. but.. I'm a sucker when it comes to a good narration and a good horror stories.. This one of em'.. my first Vid here was the 3 hour long story but it seems like it's just a 10 minute story telling.. I'm super hooked.. Thank you ... Please keep up the good work..
It's definitely a truly awesome story. Kept me on the seat of my chair. With the rules you have to follow, I'd be freaky scared to death.
C’mon! Too ambiguous! What did they do to Clive? Tear him apart? What was “It”? Need more information. These stories are leaving me hanging too much…
He got took away by the sea monster the kraken !!!
Clive got offer to the kraken he lost his life ....to say the company murdered him or was it on his contract if he get chosen by raffle
yeah i really don't understand the ending, why did he scream forR hours? Why were they running towards him?
Just joined the community! I have to say, this story is absolutely fantastic. As an aspiring author myself, I'm truly impressed by the vivid details and depth you've woven into the narrative. It really inspires me!
I wonder if the manager's names get put in this "raffle".
I oil well hope so
Nice horror story.... this is a good one to include in the training manual for my new employees....I 'll try the pin for starts and I'll turn the cash drawer in to the "red door"...
I love me some lighthouse horror stories
Excellent story, time absolutely flew while walking on the treadmill.
you ever notice how a lot of pastas these days are just folks fantasizing about having a job with meaning
I think the popularity of Rules stories is probably about people's anxiety about the old "rules" of how to behave in order to survive and thrive not working anymore too.
You can get crazy being in the middle of the ocean for weeks. I'm not surprised if a group of people working on rigs start to get bored and crazy, thinking the normal waves might be cthulu or somthing...
Ending was a little too abrupt for my taste but overall it was a good story. Could've used an epilogue revealing the contract he signed also included a massive NDA.
Just sometimes. Can't these stories end with someone rushing in and killing all the supernatural?
Clive screamed for hours... because it was Taco Tuesday and he was so very excited! The end.
Ok. That was disturbing. I haven't felt like this after a story in a while.
