You have specific rules to follow to survive certain horrors, and you decide who to let through based on whether or not they can pay the toll (although, you COULD add more Papers Please elements to it with things like IDs, or travel documentation, etc.)
Pasta theory: when the old woman puts her fingernail on the pavement, it kills the next person who crosses the booth. You're supposed to ignore cries for help because the price of the towns safety and prosperity is human sacrifice. The young woman in the shiny green truck is the same entity, amd her flowers are what blesses the town. She's not a woman at all, she's either a demon or a malevolent goddess. But due to her relatively small domain of power, I'm leaning towards demon. If James would have taken her penny, he would have ended up being the sacrifice.
Aside from the human sacrifice - I don't think any of the people passing were actually real drivers that existed in daylight too - I thought that too about the woman, but am solidly in the goddess camp. Or possibly local genius loci. Look at the Fates; the maiden, the mother, the crone. One can be sweet and horrifying, good and evil, all at once. Why should a supernatural entity be any less than what a human can be?
We def need a second part to this story so we can find out what happened to his greatgrandfather. This was a fantastic story I really really liked this one it was awesome.

Kind of irresponsible of dad, leaving his own son out there going in blind, with a list of rules that sound pretty far out there. I just think I would have my son a bit more prepared for something like this. Hell, I make sure my son knows what hes getting into thinking he can just walk into a pen with a bull since he bottle fed him. Maybe sometimes, but not all the time, son.

Well written and well voiced. One thing I really like about the story is that it implies a lot of things about the wider world without directly stating them.
...I have always wondered what happens if you legally change your name (first name too), which name (one given by your parents, one by yourself) should you be wary of using? Or both? And does it apply to nicknames or screennames too?
After hearing all the well narrated horrors I started crying when I understood who the headless officer was. Amongst a night haunted by demons, there was one blessing to take the darkness away. I aim to be like this headless officer to my own as well, only love can overcome hatred.
This ended on a really sweet note, it's nice that even without his head he still wants to protect both his great grandson and the other people in town :)
Hmmmmm...a spiritual centipede that steals human faces and one of the previous ancestors of the main character battled it in an attempt to slay it...where have I heard that one before? Dunno why but the words "Secret" and "Tunnel" come to mind.
Oh hey, I recognize the midnight record thing Its the same one from that "I work in a radio station with strange rules" story Neat I like it when authors connect their works together
The old woman's voice near the end of her speech sounded like Darth Sidious Wow!! I love this story, those creatures, that thing in the mirror, the headless cop, that was so sweet of him.
The rust lady feels like the spirit of decay of some kind? Perhaps the town founder made a deal that she would take the decay out of the town and the price is that she has to bring it back at some point but the loophole is that if they don’t take it back then the town won’t fall into ruins and the lady with shiny car is her daughter which is the spirit of prosperity maybe? Love this story
I truly love these types of stories, an unsuspecting citizen, in a familiar yet unfamiliar place with strange rules that you have to follow to the T, and as the story goes on you learn the reason for the Meticulous way of doing everything and going though these insane encounters. Keep up the outstanding work man, I love to see it.

I wanna hear those stories
Bro… “your his great grandson” got me shivering for no reason.
Hello ppl. It's 4.56am in Portsmouth England. Best channel ever !.xx
I love the reference to the harmony radio station horror story with the midnight record.
Absolutely, was looking for a comment referencing this xD
Well written and well voiced. One thing I really like about the story is that it implies a lot of things about the wider world without directly stating them.
Amazing as always! Thank you, Stephen! 😊🙏🏻💯
I would love to have a sequel to this story if possible! This one was so much fun!!
If anyone tells you "Never give your name" or "Don't Respond for your name" note that you are dealing with the fae.
...I have always wondered what happens if you legally change your name (first name too), which name (one given by your parents, one by yourself) should you be wary of using?
TGIF means that its LH time! Yay! Thank you for making my Friday evenings enjoyable! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!🤗💜🕷
The thing with the headless officer at the end was textbook cheesiness but it was so wholesome and sweet. I loved the story.
A BLOODY RIPPER of a tale! Thank you H.R. Selke & Stephen!
🔥🌃🗿👊😎🌃🗿🔥
This ended on a really sweet note, it's nice that even without his head he still wants to protect both his great grandson and the other people in town :)
I'm hooked on these "Rules" stories 🥴
Hmmmmm...a spiritual centipede that steals human faces and one of the previous ancestors of the main character battled it in an attempt to slay it...where have I heard that one before?
Dunno why but the words "Secret" and "Tunnel" come to mind.
Hey I don’t know if you’re aware but RUclips keeps unsubscribing me from this channel and I’m pretty sure it’s other people as well
YT does that to lots of channels.
Oh hey, I recognize the midnight record thing
Its the same one from that "I work in a radio station with strange rules" story
Neat
I like it when authors connect their works together
This was great you should do a back story on the headless office
The old woman's voice near the end of her speech sounded like Darth Sidious
Wow!!
Thank You! Maybe I can finally get to sleep.. (4am) ❤
this had a huge fey vibe. the headless officer feeling like the myth of the dullahann while the old woman and the young girl in trucks were hag or dryad like entities.
Isn't there a saying that goes.."a penny for a pound of flesh😳?" This is gonna be bad.
Yes there is
I really enjoyed this one. No end of the world scenario, no convoluted multi dimension crap, straightforward good story
Like this comment to salute the headless officer 🫡
Headless officer is the G.O.A.T.
Aww he’s his great great grandpa! I love stories with that sweet kind of ending
That last bit about the officer was super endearing. Lol.
Finally someone who obeys the rules, great story lighthouse! Old lady why did I remember the one from army of darkness
“ILL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!!”
I love me some lighthouse horror stories
It was neat hearing Radio Harmony come on the radio, especially after hearing the radio station story.
I absolutely love these rules creepy pastas!
0:11 I thought he was going to say Edens gate
I think its so cool how he connected two different stories being this and the radio station story, which was radio harmony, but i wont give out to many details
Another GOOD GUY added to the lighthouse!😁 Looks as though you got a haircut. 😁
I like to think the rule of saluting the headless officer isnt mandatory but was added just to respect him for what he does lol
the headless officer is a real one as long as you salute him
I used to listen to stuff like these at work years ago IDK why I stopped, glad the algorithm decides to show this to me
Love the rules stories the most 💖
I loved this a lot. It would be cool if there was an alternate story that explaied how each rule was made and what bad things had to happen along the way.
