Merlin runs into some trouble when showing off the 1917 Model T. These are not easy to come by on parts. He is really going to have to scavenge to fix it. Mater is finished up and taken for a test drive. Will it be able to withstand the test of Paul's shenanigans? You'll find out in a future episode.. and no it is not the Tow Truck Olympics! Thanks for watching!

I’ve been working on cars and motorcycle’s for over 50yrs. I’ve mounted MANY tires. But I never had to work on a “T” wheel.
I love input, wether it’s useful for me or not.
Early vehicles have so many interesting designs.
That’s why I enjoy antiques. Including my
    ‘51 F1 Ford.
    Merlin it’s always a pleasure.

Merlin , I learned something today.
    Actually 2 things,
    1) motorcycle tubes work in model Ts.
2 ) The neat ,3 leg tool to change a Model Ts tire.
    Thanks, Will.

I have a 1926 Model T Coup on wire wheels restored sitting in one of my sheds that hasn't turned a wheel in over ten years. It was restored by my late father over the course of about twenty years which included gathering original OEM parts and then the assembly and finally resto. Thank you for taking us back in time with this episode and love the rest of your content too. 👍

    Merlin,
Great start, one crank, nothing broken.
Great video. Cool to learn about the split rims on the Model T. So many things that the owner back then could do themselves.
I carried a Proto 704 and a Channelock 4" in my pocket along with a Klein pocket knife with a screwdriver blade all the time, at work and at home. So much work could be done without going to the toolbox. I bought my grandson a 704 after he showed some interest in mine. Now you have to go to fleabay and buy the old used ones as the new style are not up to snuff.
Looking forward to the mini semi coming back into the shop too,
jack, in Glendale, Arizona that is.

Starting the model t engine, you did this the right way. These engines where also put in small boats ( 16/22 feet) wich where tied behind sailing cargo vessels to push them. About 1920 to 19?? in the netherlands. No engine in the cargo vessel. My granddad would transfer them to dual fuel. Gasoline and kerosene. Run on temperature or when manouvring on gas but when pushing on 1/2 3/4 refs on kerosine. Because in a boat the cranck was low then you kicked the kranckhandel down by feet.

Wish I had your mechanical knowledge! Building a welder out of a welder sounds like a cool project! Can you set it a welder up to run a little mig gun?? Flux core Im guessing but having shilding gas would be sweet even if it was a small portable tank. Looking forward to a complete rebuild of a chevy powersteering box, knowing when to replace parts, setting up the backlash so the steering is loose enough to return without help ect. Enjoyed the moter builds you would do while co staring on Welder Up! Trust me you earned your solid reputation for building engines, even Steve was in awe, never seen him get nervous unless you were worried about being able to salvage a moter. Like that little screaming Detroit in the Suburban. Cool sounding old iron but always made me nervous reving them so high... that & never changing the oil... they leaked so bad that we added a gal+ per day in the dumptruck. One day the crank seized... odd but with so
many hard miles I would have expected the bearings to be loose. The bearings were not stacked or wiped out or smeared... it just wasn't worth fixing, bought a Pete with a Cummins... huge improvement!

Most modern tubes have a dry lubricant coating for this purpose. If you dunk it and patch it, you need more talc. The other trick is to let the valve stem "lean" if the tyre slips on the rim. The nut on valves with outer threads is to act as a keeper for the cap, not to clamp the stem to the rim. Note; the replacement tube has a plain, "unrestrained" valve stem.

I’m sure there would be a lot of heavy haul tow truck drivers would disagree with you about using straps to lift with. Many endless loop straps have the same or more load capabilities than some chains do. And they’re typically a fraction of the weight of a chain. So it would be easier on your back to move them around when hooking them up. A grade 100 chain Weighs in at 27.1 pounds per foot. Endless loop straps however do have some limited abilities. You shouldn’t use endless loop straps on sharp objects. Which could cause them to be cut.
