I posted on Matts and Pauls channels about inviting you to the "Tow truck olypics" -- Some people were trying to argume with me, saying your truck isn't for off road. lol.. At least it was getting several comments and likes, so it should be towards the top of their comments so that they can see it.
Matt has a MASSIVE build , Paul can never be counted out, obviously, and Merlin, im relatively new to your channel, and i love it!, but we need to know the rules! I found all off your channels through Matts channel. Im personally rooting for Paul, but i think Rory is gonna whoop everyones ass! I appreciate and follow all of your channels! Let the games begin!
You're a true motorhead. Having fun with anything that has an engine in it... Whether it is 12hp or 1200hp. Nice resto job. It will look great in a founder's day parade.
I had a neighbor who had a box front Cushman. He let me drive it down field roads and little township roads. It was so fun and must have gotten really great gas milage. I don't recall ever running out of gas or filling up. My dog would jump in the box and down to the fishing hole we would go. Too much fun. Sounded the same as this PO truck/trike.
Hey Merlin, never let the “child” in you grow up. I love the “gotta drive it” approach, when you’ve no idea what’s right or wrong with a rig. That postie trike is so cute… ❤️🇷🇴
Robbie Layton has a little International Harvester mail van he wants to get to. Maybe mail van car show in future. Yes, you should be in the tow truck Olympics.
My father-in-law has one he restored. It is painted in our high school color as it was used at football games to celebrate touchdowns and stuff back in the early 70's. He passed away two years ago. I need to get it started again. Put a charger on the battery two days ago and it turned over great. I think some fresh gas and a little starting fluid and it should fire up. Wish me luck.
Cool video! I remember having our mail delivered and our mailman driving a Cushman. It was the model before this one, must've been from late 50's, early 60's. I asked around and it turns out a couple of them are still in garages and running in my home town. Thanks for bringing back old memories.
"Have engine...will travel!" That is both cool and fun Merlin. We'd love to see some quick shots of it inside and out when you get it finished and ready to donate to the museum. As others have said, you are a true motorhead jack-of-all-trades guy and your projects and videos are interesting and different than a lot of the find it, start it, make it drive and fix it up channels on RUclips. Cool.
I bought 2 of these surplus from the USPS in about 1972 or 1973. One to drive and one for parts $100.00 each. . It was my first car! I drove it for at least a year and even drove it on back roads to see my girlfriend on the other side of Atlanta GA. I befriended an 80 year old guy whose shop maintained them for the post office. He gave me the manuals, all the spare parts, and a lot of knowledge about them. He also told me which were the 2 best ones to buy. People always confuse them with Cushman, but Westcoaster had nothing to do with Cushman. The thing was cute and fun to drive. I was 15 when I first got it and my Dad and I built a seat in the back so he could be my licensed driver as required for learners back then. He would ride in back. He was a local Pediatrician and very well known. Once I was parked in front of the library and he stayed inside. Some blue haired old ladies came by and he started rattling the back doors yelling "let me out, let me out". They recognized him and thought he had been kidnapped. I eventually sold them to a guy who used them for delivering papers. I wish I knew where they were now! Glad to see you restoring one.
Merlin , that was a blast and I'll bet no one has ever filmed a restoration of one of those or even just driving one . Hope it makes it to the museum in Havasu. Thanks for sharing and stay safe 👍
That lawn mower engine sure puts a new meaning in the term "Dog Box" !!! A small block chevy an a narrowed 12 bolt or Dana . But wheelie bars gonna be nessary with twin steering masters...
Those are fun as heck to drive around. I have seen two which one was a beer keg holder with the cooler than the taps were just outside and the rig would show up to weddings, etc and they would just run a very quiet generator to keep everything running well with some mood lights and people would come up and get their beer, wine, etc. The other was more of a toy which he would get his weekly groceries. He also got groceries of his elderly neighbors which he delivered to them. Good guy...
You needed my little tilt flat bed trailer. Has a boat winch on the front. Could have winched it on and hauled it right to your driveway. 😁 Great find Merlin!! You're doing a super job getting it restored. Can't believe the difference in the "Before and After". Hope to see it when you get it completed!!
Hey Merlin... you always come up with the "who'd-a-thunk" projects!! LOL...pretty fun little tricycle!!! Can't wait to see the completed project! Safe travels, friend❤️ Stay FROSTY... Keep your powder dry and your head on a swivel... 🇺🇸🇺🇸WWG1WGA🇺🇸🇺🇸NCSWIC🇺🇸🇺🇸
That's a great thing your doing keeping local history alive ,I have a old 10 gallon copper crock that a local from my area made into a still back in the 20's that I'm mocking up with a thump barrel and worm for a display for are local museum . Not as cool as that Cushman tho" it's a beaut Clark".
Love to see the fiberglass!! A few years back we built a fiberglass 1935 ford extended cab pickup that ended up in Havasu. It somehow made it back up here to Minnesota and was sold through the Ellingson car museum. fun video!@
Merlin bob, that turned out beautiful, but do I have too wait for that letter tomorrow? That's o.k. that's the post office. U make the coolest stuff brother. Latter devo
I started working carrying mail in Charlotte NC in 1970, and we had those scoters to carry mail in. They were not safe, we had a lot of carriers to get hurt putting their leg out to stop from turning over. Going down hill and turning to quick. But they were easy to get in and out of driveways. Cold in the winter and HOT in the summer with the motor under the seat. We got Jeeps not to long after my first year. Enjoy your videos keep them coming.
Pretty cool little Cushman, needs some tender loving care on the electrical and fuel. That was an amazing storm that came through. We live in Kingman and it was on e big cell that came through heading towards you folks. The most lightning that I had ever seen.
Merlin you are a lot of fun! Can never see you turn “Hollywood “ like the other dudes! I enjoy every single video you put out! Much love !💯👊🏾👊🏾 can’t wait to see ya in Havasu one Summer! ✌🏾
Well this sure brings back memories. We had a fleet of those West Coasters, including some with pickup boxes, in the naval shipyard I worked out. They were notorious for getting their front wheels hung up in the crane tracks.
Cool little toy you got there!! It's going to be awesome when it is finished!!!!! Oh Yeah Love the Willys truck in the driveway!! stay cool Merlin!!!! love the channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really cool donate mail carrier Lake Havasu .will be Havasu out Beachcombers all winter come on down Sams one morning I’ll buy bfast. Great content love ole school stuff
Westcoaster was not the same manufacturer as Cushman. But both companies made those similar buggys for the Post Office. Mine is a West Coaster. It's used quite a bit here on San Juan island. Said that, its motor getting tired. I might change to a Goldwing or something.
Last time I drove a three on the tree was my granddad's farm truck in 1979. It was an old ford with the fuel tank behind the seat and i didnt know enough, but i could reach the pedals and shift while driving around the farm. I was only born in 1969...true story!
My grandfather had 130 acres and when I was 8 he would put me on the Ford tractor with a brush hog, put it in 1st gear( I couldn't shift)and jump off. I loved it. I didn't realize how slow I was going.
AS a kid growing up in Colorado I remember our mail carriers using a similar 3 wheeled vehicle to the one you bought but it had a Harley Davidson name plate on it.
I just found your channel threw fab rat’s . I’m a postal worker. I love this build . I also found one own my route ,and the guy just gave it away to a play ground. I wished I knew now what you thought me.
So, the flat space in front of the wheel is where the postmen would put the tray of mail and pull from to deliver the items to the mail box. The tray is called a SORT TRAY and the SORT MACHINE uses a software to read the address and spray the bar code on modern machines but the sorting software that bulk mail is sent to the various PO and then to the correct route and finally delivery spot, is called MERLIN. I know these facts because my widow ran a bulk mailer company which has its own meter and MERLIN that had to be certified by the USPS
Man u got a cool Cushman, engine is a 18 hp opposed twin , I had one in the early 70's wish I still had it , mine was a ice-cream truck , took that big box off the back and hot rod it , dual carbs , twin exhaust, it would do donuts 🍩 , man I'd like to find one like you got there .
Hey Merlin Maje a video about your willys truck, I saw in front your home in this video. I'm willys truck lover. I'm from México and lover your videos.
Excellent find, got a lot done in a short time, looking great, can't wait to see it finished, thanks for showing us, looks like a lot of fun, all the best to yous and your loved ones
those points are actuated by a fiber push rod off the cam, the starter on those Onans always sound like that, I think that is an upgrade, they came out with a Cushman engine.
You need one of them little rooftop RV sysle air-conditioning units for your mail cart. That way you can ride around doing whatever in nice cool air inside. 😎

Yes, good call !
I did the same thing and on Paul’s page also!!
I've been doing the same since we saw Merlins tow truck, if it's a tow truck Olympics then all tow trucks should be invited, period
Matt has a MASSIVE build , Paul can never be counted out, obviously, and Merlin, im relatively new to your channel, and i love it!, but we need to know the rules! Supportive wife. Thumbs-up for her.
