Plastic surgery is one of things that probably started with the best of intentions - helping people with disfigurements - that's morphed into something grotesque and horrifying.
Yep
The purpose of plastic surgery was for those kinds of people, honestly. For ones with cleft palates, burn victims, and other disfigurements until the beauty industry made it into a trend.

And Nobel was so heartbroken that he gave up nearly all his money for establishing Nobel prize for (as he said) "those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind" and that is why there was peace from the beginning.

As a genX who turns 50 this yr, having grown up w/ Heroin Chic, heavily edited magazines, & glamorized anorexia, I needed to see this for a reminder. I raised my daughter to look @ herself more kindly than I did hoping her to avoid the body dysmorphia I developed. Most people who get plastic surgery have self-esteem issues.
I'm a 37 year old woman who hasn't worn makeup in years, yes, YEARS! You heard me! And NEWS FLASH, nobody in the non-digital world that I live in cares, and neither do I.
Exactly that. You can tell from comments, who lives in the real world, and who doesn't get outside.
Same. I'm a woman who doesn't wear makeup, ever. (It saves you an absolute fortune) Nobody cares if you're not wearing any (men 100% do not, that's for sure), and pretty much everyone will not treat you differently. I can expect a few insecure women not liking how you're comfortable with your own face when they aren't, but that's about it. And I get the benefits of gradually over time learning to love my face for what is naturally is, no matter what. It is me, it is unique, and I'm not just some copy of someone for 100 quid. I don't have to worry about lipstick, foundation, etc. getting on anything I use such as cups and clothes. And after years upon years of doing it... I love the way I look. If they always cover up their face: I am NOT surprised the natural them doesn't make them feel comfortable, because they're so unused to seeing it (nevermind that makeup will make your acne a whole lot worse, so the cycle repeats). Women need this advice every single day: you don't need to impress anyone, not even yourself. Your own face is impressive in and of itself, and the more self-confident you become in your OWN skin, the better you'll feel about yourself and it will last a long time. Nobody secure would matter.
My heart breaks for all these young people being so insecure about their own natural looks that they want to artificially change it, all by looking at fake faces and bodies their whole life, heavily worsened nowadays by the "selfie-effect". But what really crosses the line for me are the automatic filters, that's insane!
Probably an unpopular opinion, but even before social media I have always felt that even make-up gave a false sense of reality and wished it was less used in general.

I blame the Kardashian demon spawn for promoting the destruction of natural beauty
I'm a man who started to go bald in his late 30's so I decided to lean into it and shaved my head. To my surprise literally NOBODY CARED! It turns out that other people care far less about how we look than we imagine. As long as you don't walk around looking like a actual hobo nobody really notices.
Also, some people can pull off the bald look pretty well, to the point of it actually becoming kind of their own personal brand that seems naturally fitting for them, specifically.
People care more about how they look than others. We're all self-obsessed like that
Your genes were sturdier than mine are - I started losing hair in my earlier twenties! 😄 As you did, I started putting the razor to my head - never lookin' back.
It seems like unrealistic beauty standards are a thing way more online than IRL. My mom is 76, she's healthy and still has nice hair, but no skin care routine whatsoever. Seriously, she never wears sunscreen and doesn't even own facewash. I just turned 40, and put definite effort into beauty, and while I do get more compliments and flirtation, my mom gets hit on more, and by people who are genuinely interested in her. She gets out way more, and is friendly and open, not afraid to be herself. Even though my mom will say that she wishes she could be more "beautiful" like me, it seems her outgoing nature, and untouched beauty are actually more sought after.
My fiance calls women who have had lip fillers "nooters", because he thinks they look like Pingu the Penguin going NOOT NOOT.

When it comes to plastic surgery I always think of Kurt Russell's movie "Escape From LA" with the Plastic surgeries gone wrong. The celebrities with horrible surgeries gone wrong are endless.
One of my favorite internet stories is about a couple born with ugly faces (and personalities) who got plastic surgery before they met. Had a kid, kid came out ugly. Both of them blame the other for lying about their appearance.

I feel so horrible for the girls. Most of them are pretty, and use a very advanced technology to look bland and weird
My thesis is: they don't understand what "pretty" is. They see themselves as ordinary. It's success with men that makes them realize that there's sth attractive about them - but they don't know what exactly.

to be fair, I've met girls that had literally 0 lips and got some filler, not an outrageous amount, a very light amount to give them actual lips. It was nice, it upped their kissing game alot and I particularly was fond of it. However thats *a rare exception* to the rule. I'm talking these girls barely had any pink on their face cause their lips were almost pulled all the way inward. Thin Lips was an understatement. So a little filler can be alright for most guys, its the point of making it *not noticeable* more than anything. But everything else outside breast reduction and the rare exception that a woman has a massive honker of a nose that ruins her whole face. Its all off the table lmao atleast for me. (also dated a girl with a nosejob and I couldnt even tell she had one cause she actually just removed around an inch off her actual nose, couldnt blame her. Wasn't like a full rebuild job that most people get which is as bad a botox with how obvious it is.)

My main goal as a boudoir photographer is always to help folks rediscover & reconnect with themselves and their intrinsic beauty. And to relearn how to see themselves. Cause you’re right, social media is genuinely harming the way we perceive ourselves and I don’t think that’s on accident.
The more insecure with ourselves we are, the more motivated of a consumer we are. The more likely we are to spend money on new & different products and items and invasive procedures.
And not to be corny or cheesy or anything, but like, we literally don’t have to do that. We are legitimately all beautiful in our own ways and I hope as a society we start to remember that more and see ourselves with much kinder eyes.
I'm a (straight) male, and I don't have TikTok (despite people, women mostly, trying to convince me several times to download it). I rarely upload selfies at all, anywhere. And yet... I feel this pressure. I feel it when I look in the mirror each morning, and I especially feel it when a random stranger insults me and my appearance (usually when drunk), which has happened more than once, or a date goes badly, or someone comments on the photos I DO upload to say that I look "rough" or that I've "let [myself] go", or something...
People, including those we consider our "friends" or family, can be incredibly cruel. No wonder people's self esteem is shot.
I've been around/involved with enough younger women to know how much this is affecting them, too, and I also know that, unfortunately, no matter how much you might try to tell them that those comments aren't true, and that they're beautiful, or that so much of this is fake... It doesn't seem to help, when those perceptions are already ingrained...

It's very interesting to me, as someone who understands photography, that it's well known among photographers that wide angle lenses are horribly distorting for faces, but the fact that this knowledge isn't widespread outside of that community is a major contributor to the epidemic of women ruining their faces. It has a name, which the crazy guy with the weird energy didn't mention but he's clearly aware of the effect: perspective distortion.
I'm UK, met a lovely lady from US via work years ago, who said be WARY re: cosmetic surgery... She'd had lipo (this was in the 00's) and said she was never told one important fact: the process takes ALL fat cells from a given area, so she had lipo on her upper arms, tummy and thighs. So far so good. However,IF you then overeat afterwards, your body WILL still store fat, wherever it can. She said she now had to wearfull-cover clothing at all times, because when she gained weight, it went to her calves, forearms, neck and face and hips... so she had thin thighs, upper arms and stomach, but huge lower arms, lower legs, ass and neck face. She was very honest about it, tried to make jokes... but OUCH. Horrific possible after-affect she was never advised of.

Compliments from random men are less than worthless lol. How have you still not figured this out..... Weirdo.
You're not useless; you're loved.
Ha - I had a comment removed from this thread already for hate speech because I said that women getting these weird surgeries are not doing it for men - good to see RUclips is keeping the world safe from opinions.
Ikr
I mean, they're right in not doing it for men, they should do it for themselves.
I just wonder what they see in it to think the final face is prettier than the original face. It usually isn't and the more aggressive the procedure is, the more unattractive the result is because the face looks unatural.
They do it because of insecurity, low self esteem etc. Men aren’t attracted to plastic they’re attracted to women lol
@@JoaoVitor-qy3zeThe problem is that they say they're not doing it for men...but then will turn around and talk about how much they go through to meet the unattainable beauty standards men have for women. Those are contradictory but women don't seem to notice. You can't be empowered and powerless at the same time.
@@JoaoVitor-qy3zebut they're doing it for other women.
80 degrees, beautiful sunny day. Lite breeze . Perfect time for a walk with the dog and a Sydney video!
I started wearing makeup for the first time at 27. I did foundation, concealer, mascara, powder, blush, eyeliner, and lipstick. Apparently that was minimal according to other women who also did makeup. I never contoured. Eventually I graduated away from it all and usually go no makeup. Sometimes I wear a bb cream then top it with blush and lipstick. When my fiancé first saw me without makeup he was so happy. He was scared I’d look completely different without makeup.
It’s crazy how now if it looks like you wear any amount of makeup, men will assume you’re fully caked.
Insecurities that a number of people have with their looks is an old problem. And the internet has just added a new dimension to this situation.
Agreed. For a few years I could not figure out how every Instagram woman had such perfect makeup. Then my kids told me about filters. Imagine seeing that through the eyes of an insecure 13 year old!
@@traceytillson3289 Why even use makup? The human face is not a mistake, it's who you are. You shouldn't want to hide it.
"I would much rather exist like this"...I actually laughed out loud. Great video.
Simple solution: stop using social media!
I deleted all my social media about 4 years ago and after watching this video I am more thankful than ever that I did!
As a woman it is normal to feel insecure at times, but selfies and filters and such create a trap in which you become so obsessed with your looks it becomes unhealthy (and I think that's the whole point of social media, sadly). Since I deleted all social media I am happier and more at peace, focusing on my family and my home. I highly recommend!
Sydney you have a natural beauty I believe most people love to see. Face and body retouching have been happening for decades even before computers and software were available. My 50 plus years in graphic arts, many of which were doing color separations and retouching for popular magazines and advertising agencies to print, almost always involved cleaning up flesh tones over the entire body. It was difficult in the old days, and expensive, to do such retouch by hand on the prints, transparencies or the separation films. I was so glad to finally see computers and software that could do that in a fraction of the time. It's a shame and sad to see it being so misused.
"he turned your face into a bicycle seat!"
Good Anology! Cheers
@@moneybags179 the truly sad thing is her before picture she was gorgeous. she went from a solid 8 or even a 9 to her face being nightmare fuel!
I think the saddest thing is all the kids that won't see themselves in their parents. I loved growing into my face that was an amalgam of my parents', and still distinctly me.
i think i can speak for most guys when i say this:
if a lady keeps trim, without tattoos or peircings, wears her hair and clothes in feminine way, and has a cheery demenour, she will have admirers, whether age 20 or 50.
Nowadays younger women in the western world could barely even do two of those things.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm in charge of my church youth group and I'm going to use it for an activity for our girls age 12-18 to talk to them frankly about this problem! You're the best :)
Quite frankly, humanity has gotten far too slothful and envious which is being fueled by greed and lust. People need to wake up.
Pleased to see you back and looking very well, Sydney.
Yeah Sydney is a hottie one of my dream girls with the right mindset included. Others are SSSSniperwolf and Brett Cooper =)
I love your content! Thank you for standing up for woman and educating REAL people about REAL issues. This world is Hell.
One of the best things I've heard is 'if it's hard to capture the Moon in it's beauty, why do we believe the camera could capture our own beauty.' This is mental illness at it's best. I try to help woman build confidence and take care of their skin.
As someone who has traveled around our sun 54 times, this IS a problem... I've never taken a selfie, and probably never will... we as a society need to realize that we are who we are. I'm glad you haven't done anything to alter your appearance, as you are beautiful the way you are. These types of surgeries were initially dedicated to helping people who were in accidents, etc. I can see that use case. Hope you're doing well Miss Sydney!
Women: "Men what do you like?"
The fit, natural healthy look, feminine styling.
Women:"ok so, high bmi, heavy make-up and odd looking surgery"
Tattoos and crocs.
Part of the reason why this happens; is because what you say isn't often what you really do. A lot of ♂️ are out here, married to a natural ♀️, and having affairs with the silicone
queens. I have a friend with really obnoxiously big fake lips, she has no problems pulling ♂️
Also, I really truly don't believe that most ♂️ like the fake plastic surgery look. A lot of this is ♀️ and 🏳️🌈♂️ having influence over ♀️.
Sorry for the Emojis but I'm trying to dodge the censorship. This thing is worse and worse all over the time.
@@Veracityseeker7women have no problem pulling men ever.... Lol. Men will f anything. Women really think they pulled a man because of their looks. You never stopped to think that maybe, a man cheats with a silicone queen because those types of women love "stealing a woman's man," and not because it's men's preference? So much of this is projection of your own insecurities, and not what men like.
@@Veracityseeker7 just because men will sleep with your friend doesn't mean they'll commit. Some guys will sleep with anything
Women don’t do it for men, they do it because it’s pressured from the media, people and social media
How could someone ruined a good looking face. I would do nearly anything to have an attractive face, except this whole surgery process.
The people, who do it to themselves, often times are insecure, and want to slow down aging. Often times they are people, who don't have that much to offer besides their looks. Secure people, who know, what they are worth, and why, usually don't do that. The doctors, who do it, are greedy and want money.
In the Magician’s series it’s implied that changing yourself could take away your magic. Just stay the way you are
You are getting closer to a million subs Sydney. Keep up the good work. You are awesome!
Crazy how they all always end up looking the same. Huge face and tight skin looks bad. Makes me feel bad for them.
That, and that it almost never stops at 1 time, but it becomes surgery after surgery.. Brrrrr😫 scary shit
You sounded more Australian in this video than ever before😂 and I love it
I didnt even catch a mate or kint in there?
Very!
My thoughts too 😆 I sometimes forget she's Australian. Then she says "mirror" or "thinner" and I'm like - oh right, there it is.
It's the non-rhotic 'R's' in the Australian accent - she puts a conscious effort into pronouncing the 'R' like most Americans would, but she definitely slips back into the Australian accent a lot in the last couple videos I've heard, where her 'R's' almost sounds like 'W's'. And there's nothing wrong with it, I smile every time I hear it, and not in a bad way!
i feel like im living in an episode of twilight zone im a tech guy completly grew up in all of this meanwhile im not influenced by any of the "modern" things i have no social media app i dont follow any hype or movement ppl i see on youtube say are the new things going on. i feel like an alien in this world not because i dont understand the new tech its just because i do that i never fall for any of these silly things. i hope i wake up soon and realize this is all just a dream ppl cant be that stupid afterall
I was always out of the loop when it came to "beauty trends" and "beauty standards". The only time I ever felt left out was because my mom wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until I was 13. Otherwise I never cared about my weight, putting makeup on or how my face looked. I still don't. But seeing a lot of these folks distort their face for pictures is very concerning! There is a slippery slope for stuff like this, and I fear what is at the end of it. I bet this has something to do with our increase in narcissism. 😬
Oh my goodness. This explains why I absolutely HATE taking selfies and feel like I look so fat but don't mind so much when my husband takes normal pictures with his nice camera.

We do need to bring realness back, though.
I'm glad the criticism of this plastic surgery/et al is starting to become acceptable. A lot of people fucked up their faces, tits, butts, whatever, because no one ever told them Plastic Surgery looks like dog shit.

Not for men. I have yet to meet a man who actually likes this. We will look - in the way people used to pay a penny to see the freaks at the freak show.
I think it's the time.. For example a lot of mental illness is going around also, and a lot of other strange distorted/disturbed tings going around..
They doin the gender black face and expect praise.
The woman who asked people to guess her age was not "rightfully" upset about people saying she looked like she was 50.
If you don't want to know the answer, then don't ask the question. This is not a girlfriend "gotcha" question to her boyfriend. She asked and got an answer, the way a conversation is supposed to work. If she was looking for some kind of emotional reassurance and wanted a "polite" lie then she should have asked her best friend, not the internet.
I think it was about the fact that people were asking why she didn’t get any plastic surgery with how she looks? That’s what i got from it
@@botpalette857 Even so, it is ridiculous to get upset about opinions that you go searching for. Was her expectation to ask 1 million people their opinion and to agree with them all? Some people genuinely believe that you should have surgeries and inject crap in your face to look a certain way. Seems to me that she wanted to be offended and found an easy way to do so.
Perhaps but she actually looked her age at 38 which was the point being made - that perceptions of real age and real skin are distorted.
@@Miluielle Nah, she does not look 38. My mom looks younger than her and she's in her early 50's, she doesn't even wear make-up. There is a similar clip of a 29yo girl, who was upset someone told her she looked 36. To me she looked in her 40's and I'm 33, I remember life before social media, photoshop and filters. As far as man-made mirrors, glass came into use for the elites about 2000-1700 years ago. Earlier mirrors were typically made of polished metals such as copper or bronze.
Also: Installing Tiktok on your device is totally self-inflicted.
I have always struggled with these issues, I don't look in mirrors long except to put on makeup. I take maybe one selfie a year if I am brave enough. I don't consider myself ugly or feel like I need surgery but have always had issues with my skin, being a ginger I never felt like anyone else around me, but I notice so much redness others don't seem to notice, but is glaring to me. I hate to see anyone struggle with these things, I have grown more content over the years but it is still very much a problem. I'm also not wrapped up in so many magazines and websites that give me worse insecurities and I think people should do more to escape that also, it makes a big difference.
That woman at @2:08 looked amazing, then transformed into a freak. What a shame.
For many compulsive people, the camera acts like a Magic Mirror conducive to self-obsession and insecurity.
I’m a 25 year old woman and I don’t wear makeup or take selfies for this very reason. The idea that people are getting life altering surgery and procedures chasing these trends astounds and upsets me. Be happy in your natural beauty, your own skin, and embrace the heritage that gives you your unique faces. Chasing perfection will only send you into an unhappy spiral until you look back and realise you have wasted your youth chasing unattainable goals, and in chasing those goals ruined your face. It’s depressing to see it in celebrities, it’s even more depressing to see in normal folk.
Thank you for addressing this topic! ❤

I'm gen Z and almost every girlfriend I have had will only send photos with filters on them. It is so rare to find a girl with enough confidence to send a raw picture of their face that when I do meet one I am blown away by their natural beauty and their confidence. The filter doesn't make you more attractive it just tells me that you haven't learned to love yourself.
As an amateur photographer who usually defaulted to the forward-facing camera by default (higher resolution photo / maybe a Gen X reflex...), I never thought about the actual wide-angle of the rear facing camera. Mind. Blown. Thank you for the video.
Honestly, i find most women i encounter in my daily life to be pretty/beautiful. I dont spend a lot of time on social media. I am usually just happy that im talking to a real life woman haha. So i wouldnt worry that much about surgeries
I've seen surgeons advertising their procedures and posting results on youtube and tik tok. In the comment sections, I've seen children as young as 9 saying that they wish they could get rhinoplasties. It's really heartbreaking. This probably sounds cynical but I believe that way too many surgeons don't have the moral compass to turn people away based on mental health issues like body dysmorphia. They got into the business to make money and will gladly destroy the appearance of anyone, including people who are barely even adults or clearly not mentally well.
The lesson: don't give children under 15 smartphones.
It is like putting a speaker in their room where random people can call in and talk to them. Because lets be honest, if a random adult showed up and was talking about how awesome their life is, with its easy money and lack of responsibilities and over emphasis on material goods, with a child everyone would flip out. But if a child watches that same adult talk about that same subject on youtube, it is supposed to be okay?
Nah. People need to interact with real people and form a basis of their personality in reality before they can be exposed to the filtered perfection that is life on social media.
For anyone whom needs to hear this, it’s ok to be imperfect. It’s part of life, we as humans are imperfect; having said that, imperfections (physical and metaphorical) are what make you beautiful. Besides, you’re always going to have them; so, might as well get used to them
A video I didn't know I needed... Thanks Syd!
