Much easier is to remove the small interior light trim in the trunk on that side, pry on the light and the black plastic piece it’s attached to comes out. You can then unplug the little light so its not dangling. The hole left is big enough for a hand to fit, I also reached one finger around the fuel door side and sort of hugged the car to get two fingers on the plug and undo it. Easy to re-plug through the light hole with one hand too.
On a scale of Al Borland to Jar Jar Binks, how bad an idea would it be to just disconnect the battery and cut and splice the new one in rather than searching inside the trim for the wire harness?

You can do it, just id say it'd be a little tricky with the room you have. People have done it though with no problems
