The air is already here. Don’t expect any updates for it next year. That isn’t Apple’s style. If you heard about the M2, that will go to their big boy Mac Pros. Mobile SoCs will likely stick to the M1 designation. And the 3-4 nm process is currently encountering yield issues that, even when solved, will be much more $$$ than 5nm. So that will be perfect for top tier workstations, but not mass produced laptops.
One more thing! According to the apple website, the 17 hour estimate on the 14inch is from the binned processor. I love the smaller 14” MacBook Pro option! The screen is already an upgrade from my current 2015 13” MacBook Pro, and it’s more travel friendly than the 16” model!
Great video! One correction: I think the HDMI port on the 2015 MacBook Pro is limited to 4K at 30Hz (or 24Hz for 4096x2160). I only know because I have one! So this is still an improvement, but it would have been really nice to see HDMI 2.1.

@@cystarkman Yes! Same to you. I had a 2012 15" rMBP that I'd still be using if it hadn't gotten water-damaged. Though I have to admit that the 2015 revision was a pretty significant upgrade from the original model. I actually bought my wife a 2016 15" tMBP for video editing when they first came out. She used it for a while but the terrible keyboard, accidental TouchBar presses, and lack of SDcard slot wore her down, so I eventually downgraded her to a 2015 and put a 2TB M.2 NVMe drive in there. She's been much happier even considering the slower CPU and GPU. I can't wait to get her one of the new 16" models!
I see all of the MacBook Pro supply is going to go to the reviewers with the number of MacBooks that they are all buying. Linus bought every single configuration. Save some for the rest of us! 😂
The wifi and HDMI port does bother me because I have an LG C1 OLED that supports HDMI 2.1, BUT! I'll probably never use that HDMI because I airplay everything and I can't even name a movie filmed over 24fps. I don't even know why the new appleTV has HDMI 2.1 because settings are capped at 60hz.. Not only that name one professional monitor such as Eizo that has a higher refresh rate than 60hz because I can't think of one.
Arghh; fewer when you can count the amount, less when you can not (less sand and water, fewer stores and iPhones) the Base m1 has fewer cores than shown off. Older Macs have less battery life :) Your videos rock keep chugging
Apple is clever to make money on the "defect" CPUs (AKA bin CPU), during the CPU manufactoring process some CPU cores are defect or not performing optimally as per specs, these low performing or "defect" CPU will be sold as less cores CPU and GPU, so when you think you save money on buying less core CPUs/GPUs you get actually a "defect" CPU/GPU. That is why they have so many CPU/GPU options to choose from.
Search the internet on how CPUs are made, search for keywords like CPU defects, yields, and binning processes, not only Apple does it, Intel and AMD are doing the same. Selling "defects" as low specs CPU.
@@blackwersus I assume they test the CPUs before they are sold, they have software that can stress test the CPUs. They should be ok within the warranty period, after the warranty who knows...
Max, I bought the 2020 27" iMac 5K back in September 2020 with specs based on your recommendations (3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7, 64GB RAM, 5700 XT 16 GB). I pre-ordered 14” M1 Max with 24 core GPU. Waiting for you other videos to see if I choose the right one. Initially I was going for 14” M1 Pro (10 core CPU and 16 core GPU) with 16 GB memory but decided to cut down on storage and go for M1 Max with 24 core GPU as it has double the memory bandwidth and double the encoders which will come handy when editing the notorious codecs of Canon EOS R5 video.

Have you noticed in the die shots that the Max actually has dual 16-core neural engines (the first being above the GPU, same location as the Pro.... the second being squeezed in under the GPU at the bottom)? It must not have been flexible enough to turn off individual neural cores and just add a few extras, and easier/cheaper to just throw a duplicate block rather than throw out chips with defects....

@@amo_res9266 do they ever do that any other time of the year?
Great video! One correction: I think the HDMI port on the 2015 MacBook Pro is limited to 4K at 30Hz (or 24Hz for 4096x2160). I only know because I have one! So this is still an improvement, but it would have been really nice to see HDMI 2.1.
this. i am also upgrading from the 2015 15” Pro and it 100% only supports 30hz on HDMI.
high five to you, we held out on upgrading. winning! we missed the dark days of bad keyboards, no sd card and no hdmi port.
My thoughts exactly.
Why isn’t Apple making a touch screen? Come on line like the iPad Pro
Can’t wait to see m1max finally on ipad pro
yes
Now an iPad with a notch?
Coming from an HP that chokes on every export and does not last longer then 4h, 17h of battery life is surreal!
You guys don’t sleep. Best tech channel on YT
Very informative!!! Awesome to know about the limited HDMI and the lack of wifi 6e
Exactly the sort of intel we need to know up front
@@robhutchings2690 Yes Sir!! Insane about the ssd speeds!!!
We need a battery test comparision between the 13 inch, 14 inch and 16 inch M1 MacBooks.
The wi-if and Bluetooth things didn’t upset me much at all but the HDMI situation is genuinely disappointing
I didn't realise that fast charging didn't come with the standard power adapter. Cancelled and ordered again for just £18 extra to upgrade. Thanks!!!
Watching this videos to help you guys for that crazy spending spree
i got the 14" 16gpu with 16gb ram, I hope there will no issues with thermal or noisy fans for that matter
Your voice sounds a bit hoarse. Guess I wasn’t the only one screaming like a little girl during the Apple event yesterday 🤓😏😏😏
Do you need 64GB memory to achieve the 400 MB/s bandwidth? Or will the Max with 32GB get the upgraded bandwitdh?
That's what we're trying to figure out!
That’s what we’ve been trying to figure out. Workin on it 👍
@@MaxTechOfficial I ask because Apple says "Up to" 400 GB/s
Arghh; fewer when you can count the amount, less when you can not (less sand and water, fewer stores and iPhones) the Base m1 has fewer cores than shown off. Older Macs have less battery life :)
Your videos rock keep chugging
If i had to nitpick something he phrased it wrong when he first talked ablut HDMI because it just has 2.0 and not 2.1 as he later said correctly.
The new MacBook Pro’s are awesome 🔥 and your videos is great… the best comparison videos I have ever seen… thank you for these contents… 🙏🙏
Wow really do you have source on that?
Search the internet on how CPUs are made, search for keywords like CPU defects, yields, and binning processes, not only Apple does it, Intel and AMD are doing the same. Selling "defects" as low specs CPU.
@@MrDKPhil won't that cause any problems in the usage if some cores act unpredictably?
@@blackwersus I assume they test the CPUs before they are sold, they have software that can stress test the CPUs. They should be ok within the warranty period, after the warranty who knows...
6:57 When Siri spoked I literally rolled on the floor of laughing. Especially for Max's "Be quiet, Siri."
MY KINDEY AND LIVERS ARE READY TO SELL. SO I CAN BUY MACBOOK PRO WITH M1 MAX
Never do that. These are for professionals.
A dive into the way these new MacBooks function would really be appreciated when you get the chance ❤️
$400 more to go from 16GB of memory to 32GB. 🤣 Tim Apple bends you over again. 🤪
It's a meaningless metric. Would you rather they charge more for 16 GB? Few people actually need 32 GB.
You guys make the most comprehensive Apple breakdown videos on RUclips, period!
Max, I bought the 2020 27" iMac 5K back in September 2020 with specs based on your recommendations (3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7, 64GB RAM, 5700 XT 16 GB). I've been very happy with it while waiting for these new machines. I would love to have a video comparing the 16" models you buy against an iMac with similar specs if you still have them from your testing last year, as this will help me decide if I am replacing, or buying alongside my iMac. Thanks for all you do.
Apple Power Adapter Extension Cable: The 1.8-meter Power Adapter Extension Cable is an AC extension lead that provides extra length for your Apple power adapter. Use it with MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power adapters, 10W and 12W USB-A power adapters, and 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W, and 96W USB-C power adapters.
No Support for new 140W USB-C Power Adapters? What's your thought on this, it might just work
The $2499 14” is really where I think most people should start, sad as that is. The $1999 is just a sticker price apple can show, but the double binned chip and cheap power adapter suggest it’s not the go to for folks who really want a “Pro” machine beyond the already great M1 stuff. Ordered a 14” M1 Pro with 16 GB/1 TB storage and very excited!
Thank you guys for the work you do. Your in-depth analysis is one of a kind and I especially like your graphs where you say “higher is better” or “lower is better”. Other people don’t really do that but it helps a lot sometimes. Thank you.
Sitting on a 2019 16” MBP and crazy envious of the new chips. Suppose it makes sense to wait for the 2nd Gen of M1X chips to upgrade.
it makes no sense waiting because there will always be something better around the corner
The real problem is storage. It doesn't matter that you have a nice processor if you have to pay almost another computer cost for a little more storage.
Im saying . Note it down . This channel is going to be the boss of tech channels in future hands down. I mean I've been watching it for nearly 4 months now . And his videos are so detailed and like he covers all the stuff literally everything ! 💯💯💯
My favourite Tech RUclips channel! Unbiased and to the point reviews 👍❤️
Waiting for tests on these from you guys for Logic Pro, to see which one should I get ))) Seems like even lowest spec with 16gb will be good for music making 💪
The fast charger was a bit confusing. Though you get fast charging for every model. Thanks Guys.
I think people might end up disappointed with the 14” if you spec up to the higher core counts. The battery life might not be too crash hot.
I’m personally bummed out over the wifi issue. I agree with you. I don’t upgrade computers for 4-5 years. I spend the money upfront on higher end component configurations so I don’t have to upgrade every 2-3 years. I bought a wifi 6e router for my phone. Now, I’m stuck either waiting for Apple to upgrade the wifi or bite the bullet for bad wifi performance in apartment buildings.
It’s Simple.
Max Tech drops a video about the M1 Max Tech, I Click 😉
I ordered the 16" base model, but I'm really looking forward to the full comparison. I might end up returning it if I realize I want a different config or that the whole machine is completely unnecessary lol.
It has been a while since I started planning to buy a MacBook and I was waiting for the new MacBook pros to be released. Because they cost a fortune, I have been passionately watching Max Tech to make an informed choice. Your videos are really helpful. Thank you so much!
why not a single soul mentions that these don't have usb-A, this is the most annoying thing tbh
Even after the MacBook reviews I will keep watching these reviews because it seems like they actually put as much effort as possible compared to other channels, good job guys
You will need to have some kind of special purpose for these laptops. An M1 macbook will do everything these do, just slower. Spending 4-5k extra for something you can do just as well at a desktop or a little slower on the air is a lot.
I have the M1 MacBook Pro that I use professionally and cannot bring myself to upgrade to these...at least not yet. The M1 is just sooo capable still
Would you please explain what "BINed" means and how can one tell which are and which are not?
