I’ve been a SD3 user since it came out. I also own BFD3 and SSD5.5. However, I know a few producers who use AD2 and always thought the drum sound was great. I recently picked up AD2 plus their Fairfax and United AdPaks and am extremely impressed. I actually prefer the sound of AD2 and the layout/workflow is a joy to use.
This kit sounds like my ideal kit for a lot of music.More tight and easy to mix.I think it will be worth the full price. The other ADPaks I have took a lot more work.Thank you.
Well, there are still quiet a lot actually that I don't own. BFD3 or all the Native Instruments software, for instance ;) Yeah, i thought about a video explaining the differences, because I read this question very often. They are quiet similar, to be honest, but at the end it's a different approach. Addictive Drums is based on expansions, you cannot buy kind of a core software or library like in EZDrummer2. EZDrummer provides slightly more instruments and expansions overall, the sound quality is always subjective.
Yea the room sounds great. I've been thinking about purchasing ever since getting the promo deal, I've got one more day to get the 50% off deal. This ADpak does sound very warm and punchy. Thanks Mike for the review.
Thanks for watching, Sal. Keep in mind that you need to purchase Addictive Drums 2 first before using any of the AdPaks. However, Addictive Drums 2 comes with three Adpaks already (Fairfax 1 & 2, Black Velvet), so by adding the United Heavy AdPak you'll get four expansions for about 100 bucks. I decided to grab the "Addictive Drums 2 Custom" - it costs the same, but you can choose the three AdPaks you like and you ain't have to stick to the three ones I've mentioned before - and you can additionally buy three so called "kitpiece paks" (extra snare and kick samples) and three Midi libraries.
@@MikeLuke I didnt receive the Fairfax 1&2, Black Velvet Adpaks with AD2, it just transferred over the kits from the Adpaks from AD......did I miss something? The squares of those Adpaks are greyed out on my XLN account page. Any idea why I didnt receive those adpaks? Thanks for your time!
Hello, Mike! Is it possible to combine pieces from other ADpaks? If yes, how does it influence the room sound? Will the other pieces have the sound from United/Ocean Way room as well? Cheers!
Gil Manoel Hey, thanks for watching. Yes, you can combine any piece with any AdPak. But only the pieces from the United Heavy Pak will have the room sound from that studio. For example, if you pick a snare from the Black Velvet pack, you'll get the room from that studio.
Awesome stuff!! It is an advantage to be able to choose as many kits and presets ! but it may difficult to decide the kit for beginner, because every preset is a good sound.
Yes I do own Addictive drums for 6 years or so. I first had Addictive drums 1 and when 2 came out I bought that too. ( Upgrade) I do have several Adpacks, but the most I like is the Metal pack. My recordings never sounded so good. First I used Ableton, but I had many issues, latency and dropouts in the recording. The CPU in Ableton is very high. So I did buy Reaper and tried to do my mixing with plug ins, but still it sounded cheap. Now I use Magix Samplitude Studio. I did Some recording and It sounded much better. I recently bought SSD4, the sounds of the kits are really good. I watch your tutorials and watched a tutorial of Jay. There are always usefull things that I can try. I hope I can launch Some new drumvideos in a few months and I still have a lot to learn.
Thinking of buying this for Black Friday. Have the Metal, Reel Machines and Black Velvet kits which I all love. This one I am sure will be no different.
BT Studio Productions Well, it is different. But of course you have to decide if it’s worth buying for you. I mean, in my video and on their website you‘ll hear a lot of audio examples.
Hey Mike.
Mike Luke Ok.Das stimmt natürlich schon.
@@MikeLuke I have some (still working on them) mixing and mastering skills and a huge mixing plugin collection. I was just wondering which samples sound best in your opinion.
I do get this question all the time and I do understand it. However, „the best“ is always very, very subjective. To me there is no such thing as „the best“. A rock guy needs other sounds than a funk guy than a jazz guy. And even within the same genre, musical taste is very different. Furthermore, it depends heavily on the arrangement of the song ... you get the point. Steven Slate has the most pre-processed samples and they usually work very well right of the box, somewhat limited to rock and pop though. To answer your question: all of them sound good - if you know what you want and need. You can pretty much destroy every sound by mixing the wrong way. And a good engineer with knowledge of this craft will make every sample sound good. I know this answer might not help, but I simply cannot tell which sounds „the best“.
@@MikeLuke thanks a lot Mike, good points yea I totally get what you mean. I ended up getting superior drummer so I honestly hope I don’t destroy the sound hahah 😉
Well, SD3 is without a doubt the best choice as it is the most sophisticated and feature-packed one. I am sure you will enjoy using it. I have some tips and tricks videos on my channel for SD3. Hope they help a bit for the start. Cheers
I REALLY wanted to like Addictive Drums 2, but I'm just not liking the drum sounds in general and I've purchased many of the expansion packs. I absolutely love how the software is set up though. Very easy to use and the sound shaping options/effects are great, but in my opinion they just didn't give you much to work with when it comes to the samples. There is the saying that you can polish a turd, but it's still a piece of shit which I think applies here. I hope they'll step up their game especially with the upcoming release of SD3. I really think if they revamped their drum library entirely, this software could be great! Again, just my opinion. Thanks for the video!
Hey Josh, thanks for watching and your comment. Well, I partly agree. I do have Addictive Drums 2, but it took me some time to find the expansion I like. All the new "United"-Series (United Heavy, United Pop) sound really good while I don't dig the old expansions. I think AD2 is a nice alternative for EZDrummer2, but if I had to choose between all VST, I'd always go for Superior Drummer.

Are there ANY drum VST's that you don't own? Haha great video! I always have wondered about the differences between ezdrummer and addictive drums.

Gil Manoel Exactly!

No, it's not really difficult. You play drums, you are a musician, so you will have a feel for what sounds "right". Always trust your ears.
” Always trust your ears”..This is wonderful word!!,thank you dear friend!!(^^♪
Thank you Mike for your video, I'll maybe buy this ADpak.👍👍👍
Rob Nienhuis You're welcome, Rob! Do you already own Addictive Drums?

Thank you Mike!
it sounded good to me!! Cool preview of this product!!
Thanks, Zax.
Nice work Mike!
John Revitte Thanks, John!
I really wish they had more info of how to make them work with e drums. They don’t even have a Roland td50 included in their software
Wann machts du einen Cover mit diesen Adpack, ich bin sehr gespannt! 👍
Hallo Rob, ich muss mich noch für einen Song entscheiden, der dazu passt. Aber ich mache damit sicher ein Cover.

This , slate or ez2?
They all work for what they‘re made. Depends on your budget, your needs and mixing skills.

Who sings this song?
Amy Lee. Check this song also: ruclips.net/video/hPC2Fp7IT7o/видео.html
I still prefer SSD over this one
Jesus Palacios Generally spoken, I'd agree. But really like this one as well.
I can't believe that... I think SSD are weak sounding. Maybe I need CLA drums or something.

This company is dead?? There are no new releases since a few years...
cool.....nice review reaper user...
Thanks for watching, David!
