"Disneycember 2020 blog day 11" steps into some mickey mouse shorts with "wonderful world of Mickey mouse" if you still got heart for Mickey mouse cartoons from the past/present or beyond Mickey mouse shorts never change but to the new "Mickey mouse" shorts that's another story me I somewhere in between if you haven't watch these new "Mickey mouse" shorts give them a watch in memory of Russi Taylor may she R.I.P "M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E"
It gives me goosebumps every time just like the old days since the old cartoons, House of Mouse, Clubhouse, etc
Now if only we can apply this level of creativity to the Disney Live-Action films.
My only problem with these are, they're "Too Short" compared to the old Mickey Mouse Cartoons.
If they were more along the running time of say: Santa's Workshop. Mickey's Rival, The Band Concert, etc., I would have liked them a lot more.
The copyright on the original Mickey from 1928 ran out in 2018 so they had to create a "new" Mickey with the different design to have a new copyrighted character. I love these new shorts and they have merchandise for them at Disneyland.
Not only does Disney not mind their characters being this way, *they also played these cartoons on a big screen at Disneyland while you're waiting in line to meet Mickey.* 100%, no joke. Right before I met Mickey at Disneyland, my family watched a cartoon where Donald gave birth to Mickey and Goofy because they shrunk themselves and went inside his body. It was surreal, my dad couldn't believe it.
I'm sorry I think I had a stroke trying to picture that. And I really don't want to google search that because god only knows what it'll direct me to.
@@Jman92854 the short is called “down the hatch” if you’re curious
*Oh God, it's Ace Ventura all over again!*
@@Jman92854 Relax, they were in an egg.
This should be the approach Disney as a company should take. More riske, insane and memorable. Anything better than another live action remake
“He never gets too out of control or violent in the old cartoons.”
In one cartoon Mickey legit points a gun at Donald. The short is called Symphony Hour.
I remember that one! Mickey seemed most like Kermit in that episode; a straight man leader managing a cast of loonies.
love that cartoon episode only time Mickey get violence leave now or get shot by Mickey Mouse
I thought this was a movie not a short
Loved that one. It's actually how I first heard that symphony.
And one of the 1930s comics there's a misunderstanding with many who breaks up with him and he decides to try and... End his life. Repeatedly. Mickey got sanitized over time, his adventures started out pretty insane
"He's just too popular a brand to take a risk on"
*LAUGHS IN KINGDOM HEARTS*
Relax, man. he hasn't played that game. It's also so obvious that he's talking about most media like film.
But he included Epic Mickey.
I see you're a man of culture, too😌
@@levibennett4550 Has Mickey done anything we’ve seen in this cartoon?
*LAUGHS IN COMICS*
Russi Taylor's final performance as Minnie Mouse was in the short "Carried Away", which has Minnie singing one of the most Beautiful songs of all of Disney to Mickey.
Her final performance was actually in "Vacation Fun", but her final performance in an official wonderful world of mickey mouse episode was in carried away so it counts.
@@chrisprattofficial Her final performance was Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
@@Lisnovski Vacation Fun is a clipshow episode while Runaway Railway is her true final role.
@@Lisnovski Nope.
I think Runaway Railway was her true final performance as Minnie, released posthumously after her death.
These cartoons are actually trying to bring Mickey back to his adventurous and mischievous roots seen in the black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons back in the Walt Disney days
yeah.
And thats the best thing about them. Considering that shameful series Mickey Mouse clubhouse, this is a glorious return to the original roots.
alex9920 *that series was not shameful lmao you just didn’t have a childhood, and if you’ve watched it at the age you are at right now (which I assume is like a teenager or an adult) then of course you’d think that. It’s not meant for older ages it’s not even meant to be funny, it’s there for educational purposes and it literally says “for preschool audiences”. And you can’t even cap there were some songs in that series that straight up slapped. So don’t diss that show. Especially because it was Wayne allwine’s last voice acting role for Mickey Mouse in a tv show (in a tv show not video game I think there was a kingdom hearts game was the last for him), and taking that into consideration how sick he was he did great! But as someone who speaks ill of a show meant literally for younger audiences not for you, I assume you wouldn’t know or care about that. Or even who Wayne allwine is for that matter. Come on, man.*
alex9920 also, there were some episodes that I’ll actually admit were kind of intriguing but that’s probably because I grew up with them and I’m biased, but whatever. They managed for me as a child to while teaching me a bunch of stuff to actually captivate me in what the characters were doing. And again the songs were catchy, thanks to “they might be giants.”
alex9920 *ok now that I’m done clarifying what the purpose of Mickey Mouse clubhouse was, time to tackle my thoughts on you thinking of this series as a “glorious return to the original roots”... the only thing remotely similar in this series to its “original roots” is the character designs, and even those are extremely different in a lot of ways. More colorful, differently proportioned, more angular I could go on. But other than the character designs... oh my gosh they’re way different. In every cartoon series from the 20s to I’d say 50s at the latest there was racist, crude and sexist humor. And don’t go calling me a “snowflake” for bringing this up. I find some of that humor to actually be... okay I’d be lying if I said I found it funny but I don’t get offended by it I just think it’s not funny nor is it particularly necessary. And on top of this the racist and sexist humor in the original cartoons of thinfs like Tom and jerry and looney tunes actually thought this way, so it was less of a joke and more like “I’m a typical Caucasian man of the 30s and am going to act like I’m not racist and sexist and incorporate it into my cartoons as a ‘joke’” when they’re not joking. And again one could make the argument that “it wasn’t considered racist for its time” exactly, neither was segregation, and you’re the same person calling these cartoons “gems” (I’m not talking to you specifically, alex9920). Anyways I realize I’m rambling but basically the point I’m trying to make is, very thankfully this new series doesn’t have those things and is way funnier in other ways. Who needs offensive humor when you have actual slapstick, or funny imagery, or just actual jokes in the series that are laughable and puns. And for another thing, don’t tell me not to be offended by something and that I’m a snowflake for taking offense to it when you’re a rich, entitled wh¡te man with no problems and no way to relate to my life (again, despite this seemingly being a reply to your comment I’m not at all referring or talking to you, alex9920. But I’m bored so feel free to elaborate on why you do think this is a return to the original, I think it’s better but you can object if you want).*

Usually Donald symbolizes our bad self geting screwed over. In this cartoon Mickey symbolizes our good self being screwed over.
I'm . . . . . . a GOOD person?
Who's got the sweetest disposition?
One guess -- guess who!
Who never never starts an argument?
Who never shows a bit of temperament?
Who's never wrong but always right?
Who'd never dream of starting a fight?
Who gets stuck with all the bad luck?
No one... but Donald Duck!
@@UmmYeahOk I was this close to getting r/whooshed and was simply going to quickly compliment you on the rhyming but remind you of how blatantly untrue that is and then I discovered that those are the ACTUAL lyrics to his old theme song! You sir and or madam or other have failed to whoosh me but have succeeded in showing me something wondrous. Well played
In Italy, Mickey is usually used for journalist/mistery/detective stories (one of the more popular series being X-Mickey) while Donald Duck is way nicer, is more like the New DuckTales... A nice but really lazy duck, with a lot of talents, but no "energy" or care to do them. This also because the country loves Donald Duck more than Mickey, leading to Avenge Duck (Paperinik) and later PK (great comic, if you love sci-fi super heroes give it a try). Also they made a little guide on how to draw "Disney" comic that would come up every week (or month?) and the first number (usually the number that is meant to capture the public and sell) had Donald Duck in the cover, despite Mickey being obviously the Disney Icon.
By the way, even tho Mickey is the "established" Detective, they still used Donald to do stories ala 007 (Agent Qu-Qu 7) when the detective story had a more "funny and extravagant" remarks... just to give more grasp of how much that country loves the duck.
Fun fact: always in italy, is established Donald has a green thumb, maybe even being the best on the gardening and care of plants, being able to "revive" an almost-dead, ultra-delicate and one of a kind flower.
Edit: I thought Paperino Paperotto, or Donald Duckling, was not an italian only story, but it seems in the wiki is took as such. So yeah, they also made Donald Duck stories from when he was a little duck
Sorry for the random Italian Fanservice rambling
@@ShinyShilla As someone with a lot of Italian heritage myself, I have to ask. Where would someone be able to find this secret treasure trove of nice 007 Donald Duck and Detective Mickey? That sounds fascinating.
I have to say one thing I find interesting is how much more invested in Mickey and Minnie's relationship these shorts make me. Since they're allowed to have flaws and be more relatable, Mickie us allowed to be a lot more genuine and even adorably dorky in how much he loves Minnie.
Exactly! That's a great development of these characters.
Chris Diamantopoulos, who plays Mickey in these cartoons, is really talented.
Yeah glad they used him instead of the official Mickey voice. He sounds like the older Walt Disney Mickey.
Does do the voice for other language episodes too? Like he gets coached in each of those languages?

They knew what they were doing with these characters. The episode where Donald taught Mickey how to say no because he’s just too nice and literally can’t pronounce it is freaking hilarious.
I absolutely adore the way they adapted Mickey cartoons for the modern years. These shorts are probably one of the few things handled with heart & creativity by Disney these days.

Mickey wasn’t always a boring character. He was heroic in both his early shorts and the comics. In House of Mouse he was pretty funny also.
He legit roasted Mortimer to the ground on that one episode of House of Mouse lmaooo
Yeah, I think he was REALLY boring in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. That's when he became boring imo.
@@finleyforevermore that's a version of him for kids. He may be the main version now and also the mascot for the disneyland but old cartoon/comics Mickey and Mickey mouse shorts are the most accurate versions of him.

@@MrDethskull It's on RUclips though!
Also, " I've never seen Mickey act like a psychotic killer before". Have you never watched the old black and white cartoons before? He laughs at people dying and abuses animals, including a mother pig.
Well yeah, but those were mostly the product of the time. Back then most kids cartoons did kinda basically encouraged violence and cynicism because after just ONE World War, people were convinced that there's no point in preserving a child's innocense, because at any moment they'd be drafted into the military and sent to die somwhere in Europe

"Never gets violent--"
Are you sure you've seen the black and white ones?

And now we wait for the 12 days of Disneycember commenter!
That episode in Vietnam when he had to choose between Goofy and his country was amazing.
Oh! I see you're a man of culture.
The most brilliant part about them speaking different languages is the lack of subtitles. The character animation is so clear that you don’t need to understand what they’re saying to understand what they’re feeling.
I especially love the international ones, they feel authentic without becoming awkwardly stereotypical it is very refreshing.
I really like how the international shorts use the Mickey Mouse voices from each country.
They English VA was given training on how to speak those other languages for a 5-8 min short.... that's an amazing attention to detail
I remember when I took a Disney Cruise vacation and I since it was my first cruise I got a little sea sick. I remember going back to my cabin and just binge watching these shorts for HOURS. I have fond memories of these cartoons and they’re a nice nod to the older cartoons.
I'm sorry you were seasick, but that's a sweet memory.
Doug: "MIckey Mouse always has to be happy, and even when he gets mad he never goes to over the top or violent or extreme or anything like that."
KH2: Mickey, after thinking he saw Goofy die, in a deep anger filled tone with pissed off eyes. "They will pay for this." Brandishes his weapon and just starts running with nothing but anger on his face.
Mickey in Kingdom Hearts is AWESOME. He's such a pal to Riku and I love the almost father-son or mentor-mentee relationship they have it's amazing and so wholesome.
@@dapperdabber13 Riku is an amazing character.
@AT Productions Of course it's insane. It's a game franchise about keys being used as swords.
Kingdom Hearts Mickey are the best version for me. What I like the most is that he is still the same Mickey. So positive and optimistic. His battle against 13 Seekers of Darkness in Remind was one of the best kh moments.
I prefer the Kingdom Hearts Mickey more. I like how Mickey is epic, wise, brave, caring, and badass but still kind, nice, and likable.
This is one of the best things Disney has produced recently. It's so good.
It's a shame they couldn't do this when the original mickey voice actor was alive :(
Walt Disney was the first voice of Mickey, followed by Jimmy Macdonald, and then the one most everyone knows as his voice Wayne Allwine.
Walt Disney was the original Mickey voice actor, and even then, he stopped voicing the character even BEFORE he died.

I love how that line was deliverd with calm cold wrath.
I know this is not all that violent ore extreme and it is very relatable but I still had to think about it.

I always loved the cameos and send ups of the Disney Company, like there is one where Mickey rushes past Cinderella and Prince Charming just when he's about to fit the slipper on her foot and in the chaos it ends up shattering, or when Mickey is feeding the birds in his backyard he's singing "Feed the Birds" and the littlest bird is named Tuppence, or, the one that really got me in the heart, was Mickey gets hurt and the first thing he says "Is that you Walt?", plus many more. I just find all of these really clever and sometimes heartwarming.
"He always has to be happy because happy is friendly and he never gets to out of control of violent or angry"
I guess Doug has never heard of the Kingdom Hearts series
"He's too popular a brand to take any risks on."
*Laughs in Kingdom Hearts*
Not that KH Mickey is some amazing character full of depth, but he has a lot more range than typical Mickey.
Mick in Kingdom Hearts is AMAZING. Who knew a mouse could be BADASS lol
"Say fellas, did somebody mention the door to darkness?"
Mickey seems like one of those cartoon characters who CAN have a lot of depth and personality IF someone was to take a chance on him, but unlike Donald or Goofy, not many people ever did. Partially because he's almost the face of the Disney brand, so whatever you might do with him, can reflect on Disney as a whole. I'm sure there are jokes already in your mind how he should therefore be portrayed the same way he's portrayed in South Park

I love how far Disney lets them go with the imaginative crazy animation scenes that they were allowed to do.
My favourite version of mickey. I must have watched these shows over 20 times (all seasons). I even put it on in the background on loop. The first time I saw this was during a Disney vacation and needed a moment to fill in some downtime. Put on one of the channels and found this show. Soon enough, I was almost frequently late for certain booked events because I was enjoying this so much. Hilarious episodes and quotable lines. To me, it's outstanding and fine the way it is.
I like how these shorts try to bring back the mischievous side to Mickey from his earlier days. Not something we see often
I'm so happy you talked about this show Doug. I randomly put on an episode for my child and we ended up loving the series. If you have a kid around 5-9 years old, please give this a shot! Its very similar to old Nickelodeon cartoons.
I watched most of this mickey mouse shorts and they're so hilarious, I couldn't stop watching them.
I discovered this recently and i REALLY enjoyed them as a fan of both animation and comedy, interested to see your opinion on it 😊

Who thinks Doug is sadistic? The way he always wants more violence and death in something like this.
I mean, he has a series about dark cartoons, so yeah.
It's a shame this show doesn't get more recognition
"Keep on Rollin'" not only brought Ursula to that episode, but also her original voice actor.
Who is now dead😦
Holy shit they actually added José Carioca into this. I completely forgot about his outside of The 3 Caballeros
I absolutely love these shorts, I have to admit it's a little strange seeing Mickey open up his shorts to dump a bunch of ice cream and go "oh yeah! ❤" Feels like a Family Guy joke! 1:05
The Halloween special was fantastically charming, cute, and can be considered a dark toon in some scenes
Man I used to watch this all the time. Even before RUclips, I’d wake up early on the weekends just to watch whatever one episode would be playing on tv. And when I found out about RUclips, I watched them a lot on that. These days, I don’t watch it much anymore, but it’s been a good while, so maybe it’s time to revisit this cartoon again.
I certainly found these modern Mickey Mouse cartoons to be impressive. With them going back to the older designs really shows that sometimes, you just can't beat the original. It's a shame not every television company knows that lesson or will allow anyone to teach them that lesson.
This cartoon is kinda vintage. The characters having their classic cartoon styles, while having some simple, yet amazing background, well colored like a painting! Definitely another cartoon to put on my list!
These shorts are absolutely chaotic and I love them for it. Goofy in particular never fails to make me laugh
5:54 I always thought the art direction in this was very similar to my life as a teenage robot.
One of my favorites.
Hats off to Minnie's new voice actor, Kaitlyn Robrock in the new animated shorts. She's doing an amazing job so far filling Russi's shoes.
You must've loved "No!" then. That one treated Mickey with such hostility, he was sent to jail with Pete as his inmate.
If only in that episode he had Giorgio Giovana powers so everytime he says no he sent anyone to an endless dead loop.
That wasn’t Pete. That was a tiger.
I actually like that many Disney shows had similar animation, it make me believe that they are all in the same universe, like the dimensional scissors from SVTFOE could reach Amphibia or the Boiling Islands or that first people who arrive to Mewni where pioneers from Gravity Falls
I know i’m reading to much between lines and obviously we are not getting a crossover with finished shows, but still give some magic charm
I think at least with Gravity Falls and The Owl House there's a connection-one of the Gravity Falls tie-in books has a wanted poster of Eda. another book has a page of Ford's journal mentioning the Boiling Isles, and in The Owl House King has a drawing of Bill Cipher on his "Demons 101" board.
@@RavenStarMedia Exactly! that's the kind of charm that we get by thinking they can all be from the same universe, but if the animation were as different at this Mickey show, even with those details you see it wouldn't look like that

i love how energetic and fun these shorts are! it almost feels like a cartoon network style of humor which is pretty refreshing. the art style is really dynamic and lively, these shorts are just a blast to watch
It’s sad that this era of Mickey is Over
I really love these shorts, I remember watching them for the first time, and I had a blast.
Also there is an episode where Mickey Mouse meets ganesha
I remember hearing about these shorts during the summer while visiting some family in California and I definitely thought they were interesting and when I saw these I really loved them!
I love EVERYTHING about these Mickey cartoons. Love the Ren & Stimpy animation elements. The over exaggerated looks and personality. I love the craziness and over the top.
I’ve been watching these since they first came out and they are incredible!
You used a still from The Owl House. I’d love to see a Disneycember review of that.
There's something really seventies about this series, and I've NO CLUE what it is.
Shout out to Ottawa’s Mercury Filmworks for this style of animation this time around. 😀
I remember being really surprised when I saw one of these shorts. The visual style looked more like a fan-made parody animation, it was really shocking that play-it-safe Disney of all companies was behind it, especially since it involves one of their cash-cow characters.
If it wasn’t for these Mickey Shorts, all we would really have is
*ITS THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE*
At first, it's a little bit weird to see this new art style and animation. But oh my!!! Once you realize that you are watching creativity in all aspects, then you start to enjoy the shorts. The risky development of Mickey and friends it's so well done (of course the creators could risk a little bit more, but hey! They already took a risk).
The artsyle is simple sometimes and then you can see great art, great animation (so fluid). The newest shorts (The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse) follow the same path and I just loved every single one of them. I highly recommend it!!!
As someone who usually was just thinking that before Doug said it, but also as the father of little kids, THIS IS PERFECT. I absolutely love it. It is a new national treasure.

I love these cartoons! They remind me so much of Ren and Stimpy (minus the "unpalatable" elements that render it only appropriate for select company), mixed with the best elements of the late-90s Cartoon network shows. And it's no surprise why: executive producer and director Paul Rudish had a long career at Cartoon Network, including a hand in most of their best shows of that era. You can tell that the whole team draws heavily from these influences, and as a 90s kid and lifelong Disney fan it's just the best of all worlds to me.
I only gave it a chance because of your Dark Toons review. I've now seen the whole series so far and the new longer format series on Disney+
Here's my opinion, the best Mickey Mouse cartoons are the ones that feature Goofy and Donald Duck. Mainly because I loved the comedy that these three had whenever they were together. They were like the Disney version of the 3 stooges mainly because their comedy was kinda similar, not completely, but a little bit. The biggest laughs I got were when those 3 were together and even when their comedy doesn't work, I still stay through the cartoon because I just love their dynamics together.
I agree!
My opinion, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse is my favorite Disney+ series. I just love how it's retro but also modern at the same time.
My favorite version of Mickey Mouse of all time
1:43, Doug Obviously never played Kingdom Hearts lol
I'm quite confused as to why Bret Iwan, the official replacement for Wayne Allwine didn't do Mickey's voice here. Mickey has a FAMOUSLY shy, high falsetto voice-Allwine was able to capture Mickey's personality even when he got angry (rare but it happens especially in Kingdom Hearts), but Iwan just didn't quite live up to Allwine his voice was a bit TOO high. So in things like Kingdom Hearts, when he's trying to sound firm and threatening to someone like MALEFICENT, it just....doesn't stick. You'd think this series would allow Iwan to really hone in on Mickey, and get that voice down to a T but no, they went with Christopher Diamantopoulos a Greek-Canadian actor. I kinda get that they wanted to go for a more vintage Walt Disney voice, since yes he DID voice Mickey for a time, but this is also a MODERN take on Mickey as well so I think they should've stuck with Iwan.
According to Wikipedia, they wanted Mickey's voice to be closer to Walt Disney's voice back in the old mickey mouse cartoons, sadly Iwan's voice is too calm
I'd go out on a limb and say it would have to with Christopher's comedic delivery. I kind of doubt Bret could match the same as Christopher.
@@kylegathright true as the first person said Iwan's voice is just too calm. And Mickey DOES have range of emotions-people like Doug who say he's just happy all the time really don't know Mickey as well as they think. In KH again, he gets upset, he gets worried, he's angry, he's kind of a badass. And I'll never forget hearing Iwan as Mickey for the first time trying to order Maleficent to stand down, to release Minnie and leave his castle in KH reCoded and just....wow it didn't work. He did a better job of Mickey in KHIII I'll give him that. He just needs to work with the character more.
It's because the crew wanted Mickey to sounds closer to Walt Disney's performance as the characters from the early days of Mickey.
They wanted him to sound more like Walt Disney's original voice.
You might really like the Christmas and Halloween specials from this series. Also, _The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse_ is the title for their *_follow-up series exclusive to Dinsey+_* , which is, granted, more of the same, but with all the episodes being 7 minutes long now.
P.S.: Thanks for reviewing this series! I might’ve been the single most incessant requester for this last Disneycember, haha.
I love these mickey shorts especially the other language episodes. Several of my friends also in their 30s think it's too grotesque (insert my eye roll here)
Fun Fact the people who made this cartoon are also making the Cuphead show on Netflix
I honestly really like these shorts the character designs and animation are really funny .
I do really like that the Mickey Ride they opened at Disney World early this year (which looks charming as hell) is based on this version!
