Early 2000’s kid here- when RUclips first became popular, I would log onto my mom’s old computer and watch House of Mouse for hours. I still VIVIDLY remember the episode where the villains took over and sang some song that was honestly pretty badass. It was wonderful growing up on the show. It’s a crime it’s not on Disney+.
When he mentioned Disney’s rivals, he was referring to the other five Hollywood Giants: Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount Global (or Viacom, as it was called in the 2000s) & NBCUniversal (or just Universal Studios). In case y’all are wondering, around the time of the House of Mouse’s airing, Warner Bros. had Cartoon Network & Adult Swim, Sony gave us Sony Pictures Animation, Viacom had Nickelodeon, and Universal Studios had The Land Before Time. And let’s not forget about DreamWorks, who became another one of Disney’s biggest rivals with Shrek, and 20th Century Fox, who gave us Ice Age.
@@rubiks_20 True, but while House of Mouse was still airing, Sony released their first animated project, a short film titled “The ChubbCubbs!”, and it was shown in theaters right before Men in Black II and Stuart Little II.
It is worth noting that not all of the shorts shown in House of Mouse were Mouse Works or Classic shorts. Of the 128 shorts shown on House of Mouse, 95 came from Mouse Works, 9 were Classic shorts, and 24 (18.75% of the total) were new shorts not previously seen elsewhere. Also, fun fact: There are only two Mouse Works shorts which were not featured on House of Mouse: "Minnie Takes Care of Pluto" and "Pluto Gets the Paper: Vending Machine". Interestingly, there are also only two Mouse Works shorts which were used in two episodes of House of Mouse: "Donald's Pool" and "Donald's Dynamite: Snowman". This suggests to me that the unused shorts were planned to be used, but got pulled at the last minute and replaced with the repeat shorts.
If I was to bring this series back, I would do one or two things: 1. Do what Once Upon a Studio did and stick to Walt Disney Animation characters, while still bringing in the newer characters to interact with the classics. And bring in Oswald and Ortensia. Or 2. Include other IPs, but only characters from Pixar and Disney TV Animation, with some non cameo references to a few live action ones, like Tron, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Rocketeer, Hocus Pocus, and maybe Muppets. No Star Wars, no Marvel, no Fox, and especially no remakes. The world doesn't need more Simpsons Disney+ specials. A nightclub with all our favorite Disney cartoon characters is good enough.
I wanna see a Disney+ reboot/revival of House of Mouse, but with lots more Disney characters including some from newer movies! It could also include characters from various Disney TVA cartoons from Gravity Falls to Kim Possible to Amphibia to other shows!
I LOVE the House of Mouse. It’s one of the best cartoons in my childhood. I remember watching it on Toon Disney in the early 2000’s when I was in 5th grade in 2003. I saw Once Upon A Studio and that short is great! It shows they could make a remake with new characters- both heroes and villains under one roof.
I agree that house of house deserves more. Especially I have an idea on the major return for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit along with a good deal of original characters great and small.
Agree! THIS was my fave cartoon show growing up! I would sit in a beanbag as a kid eating candy infront of the tv every afternoon for this! Especially when Mouse Works didn’t air in Sweden so their shorts in the House of Mouse was new to me!
The concept has strong potential! In fact, what I love is Disney repurposing these old characters to create brand new stories that aren't necessarily sequels! Talespin is an example of this, and the potential is near-endless if you mix at least two film casts together!
If this show got revived and incorporated programming from newer shorts like Paul Ruddish's Mickey Mouse shorts or even other long gone cartoons like Kim Possible and Buzz Lightyear Star Command I doubt anyone would complain
If House of Mouse ever showed up on Disney+ Then It would be the only few Times that the Br'ers will ever be on Disney+ aside from stuff like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Lion King 1½.
If they did a Revival of House of Mouse then we could get the Disney Characters that appeared in Once Upon a Studio plus others that weren't in the Photo (Like Jenny Foxworth, Sykes, Rourke, Helga Sinclair, Meg (Paperman), Denhai, Sitka, etc) and Pixar Characters with more Disney Interactions.
They should also add in sequel characters as well, like Angel from Latt2 Kovu Lars, the artist, Leroy, etc. Disney has so many wasted forgotten and ignored characters.
I was in the age demographic for House of Mouse and I remember it really fondly, especially the House of Villains special. My most vivid memory is pausing it to run out the door for trick or treating when I was little. I also genuinely enjoyed all of the shorts, it was a great way to get exposure to the older animations!
House of Mouse was such a gem, I adored this show as a kid, and looking back I adore everything surrounding it, it had such fast-paced funny interactions and clever writing that went over my head, helps Mouseworks had been so easy to miss that a new watcher can just watch those shorts through this show instead (the Goofy tutorial ones were the best)
I live in Finland, and I don't remember House of Mouse airing here, but it did air on Swedish TV which was visible here at the time (for free, that it. Now we have to pay for it separately). However, the Christmas and Halloween specials were available on DVD here.
I really want to see a House of Mouse remake with other Disney animated characters in recent years. Imagine Lord Hater from Wander over Yonder meeting Hades from Hercules and wreaking havoc. Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls getting a hold of Jafar's scepter. The possibilities are limitless!
"Mickey's House of Villains" was the first show I watched on Netflix on my 2DS back in the day. Would love to see this show get some love again, whether it's in reboot or reupload form.
Been waiting for the past 3-4 years since Disney + launched for the House of Mouse to be on there! And Aladdin series, hell Raw Toonage!! But for years, No one has given us a reason why they arent on there!!!! Now i didnt know about the Tarzan situation until now. But come on, House of Mouse and Aladin? Get it together Disney while we're still living!
I remember this show but i haven't seen it in a long time. Say what you will about repackaging shorts but the show sounds even more impressive to me now than it did back then. I can especially get behind something like the Christmas special that gives you the ambitious crossover fluff with a compilation of some of the all time best Christmas "shorts". I think that's really neat.
Do you ever remember the infamous Mickey Mouse Works shorts Minnie Takes Care of Pluto and Pluto Gets the Paper: Vending Machine? If they ever revived House of Mouse, they would probably show the Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse shorts and included more animated characters from the Disney Animated Canon including every other character from Tarzan, Dinosaur, and every movie in the canon from Lilo and Stitch onwards, as well as characters from Pixar films.
Thats what I hoped they'd do but sadly they decided to lean into more anime ocs and overcomplicating the plot to the point that the Disney stuff is just superfluous and Final Fantasy basically nonexistent
12:52 I watched this film on DVD EVERY year when i was a kid. I just rediscovered it at school and i love it! I also didn't know that some of the short films were from Mickey Mouse Works. Thank you for the nostalgia trip, my friend! ❤
I saw "Once Upon A Studio" and it just makes me miss House Of Mouse all that much more. I'd watch that show all the time back on Toon Disney and always looked forward to it when I got home from school. I'd love a reboot of House Of House with a mix of new and classic cartoons but I'd ssettle for just putting the series on their streaming service. I don't know why they haven't, they 100% own the material.
I think it's interesting that Disney Channel actually did another concept similar to House of Mouse since the 2020s... the concept of packaging older shorts in a single 22-minute episode and use wraparound segments with a plot to stitch them together, that is. Starting with 2022, Disney Channel will occasionally release an episode of Chibiverse, which puts a handful of the various Chibi Tiny Tales shorts they've made since 2020 into one episodes, with the wraparound segments centering around one of the Chibis presenting a show to the other Chibis while a problem occurs that they have to solve. The Chibis themselves are chibi versions of a wide variety of Disney Channel series characters, mostly comprising of those from the current Disney Channel age like Owl House or Ghost and Molly McGee, popular ones like Kim Possible or Phineas and Ferb, or live-action DCOMs like ZOMBIES or Descendants; but they occasionally have characters from older shows like Gargoyles as well. The Chibi Tiny Tales shorts also center around current Disney Channel shows. Chibiverse is somewhat similar to House of Mouse in a way that the characters are all crossing over in a shared universe, they are presenting a show to each other, and said show also consists of shorts that have been released earlier; but all the characters are presented in a chibi-like artstyle (hence why live-action characters are possible here), and some characters have been made less complex. Disney Channel has released a couple of other 22-minute things that are comprised of other shorts, with wraparound segments from only one of their current shows (usually something with Shorts-tacular in their name or something), and some of their current series of shorts (such as Broken Karaoke) also allow for crossovers in the characters' respective original artstyle. Not really true revivals of House of Mouse, but similar concepts.
I remember seeing the house of villains ads on my VHS tapes and I always wanted to watch it but never got the chance to. Had no idea it wasn't the main series and just one movie!
I remember never really being much of a Disney kid. I usually watched Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. However, I always LOVED House of Mouse even when it was airing. It was probably the only show I watched on either ABC or Toon Disney with any sort of real care. Sure, I'd see Recess, Proud Family, and others from time to time but House of Mouse was usually one I'd make sure to be there for when it aired. I do really wish they would bring it back because I feel like there's still a lot of potential in it and there's plenty more movies now to work with. Not to mention that they could probably work some of those recent movies into a 2D style. Wouldn't that be great? With all the recent crossovers they've done like Ralph Breaks the Internet or Once Upon a Studio, I think a House of Mouse reboot (or even if they were to just out it on Disney+) would be wonderful.
I cannot believe that we STILL didn’t get House of Mouse yet on Disney Plus at ALL this year. Disney Plus JUST announced what was coming for this month, and we STILL don’t have House of Mouse! We are going to be headed into Disney Plus’s FIFTH year without House of Mouse NOT being on there. HOPEFULLY at some point next year we’ll FINALLY have it available to stream. If not, I’m going STRAIGHT to RUclips and watching all of the seasons on here.
If they reboot this for modern times and including more recent characters, maybe there could be some stories outside of the Restaurant that allows us to see what else goes on in Toontown and maybe even the Wasteland too. If they end up including Epic Mickey into the show, maybe they could lean into the ending where the Mad Doctor redeems himself, but some of the Toons (both forgotten and still known) are still struggling to accept that he’s redeemed.
The recent series Chibiverse is kind of a revisit of the House of Mouse concept- repackaging pre-existing shorts (Chibi Tiny Tales, in this case) with an added crossover-based framing device. The difference is that the crossover is based specifically on Disney Channel stuff (mostly animated series, but there are also some Disney Channel Original Movies in the mix) instead of classic Disney.
I know this video is seven months old so engagement is probably not gonna help too much, but I wanted to say this is the second one of your videos that I watched in a row after taking a chance on a RUclips recommendation. Your editing work is fantastic and the pacing of your videos is just as good as commentary. Much respect very happy that I have just subscribed.
7:31 How many modern viewers actually know about that strange and absurd movie "The Three Caballeros" (or its predecessor "Saludos Amigos"), that was jam-packed with live action/animation fusing?🤔
"You ever wonder what it would be like---" I pause the video. I witness the matching collection of Disney cassettes in the background that I also possess. I click like.
I still wished House of Mouse is finally released onto a complete Blu- Ray (the entire episodes) at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.
4:37 That "formula" has also been used for several other newer comedy-based Disney shows, like Phineas & Ferb, Star vs the Forces of Evil and Amphibia. In the other hand, those shows with full 22-minute episodes were lot more story-focused, like Kim Possible, Gravity Falls and The Owl House.🤔
11:21 That's pretty cool, drawing the characters in their original styles and even differing color scales. It really makes them "pop out" quite differently.😉🎨
16:45 Sadly, with the "No stop motion or live action characters" rule, there was no Oogie Boogie. He would've literally been the perfect fit to link Disney villains and Halloween together.😢🎃
Dude, House of Mouse was my JAM! I've only met 2 other people who remember it. It's like everyone either never knew it existed or collectively forgot it exists. It deserves so much better.
It is rather sad when Once Upon A Studio shows the sheer potential Disney has if they ever made a New House of Mouse series again. Then again, Disney does not seem to want to revive the Concept of Toon Town, which was the core element of House Of Mouse. Also, Disney seems to want to deny their "Contraversial" IPs exist, such as Song of the South.
Y'know what's funny is I just ran a search for 'house of mouse' and like 90% of it is up on YT. (5 of the 52 episodes are down) They're not even trying to hide it either. Just full quality TV rips of the episodes with burn-in logos and 'up next' overlays and everything. Even the channel name is 'Disney’s House Of Mouse'. Been up for a couple years too. It should've definitely been caught by YT's content detection by now, if not for the HoM content then for the shorts within, but it's all there _except_ for those 5 episodes, which conspicuously just so happen to feature those older toons. 🤔 This leads me to believe that not only HoM but the whole of the Mouse Works shorts just never got added to any content library. My guess is, and it's probably by accident, but as soon as they got deleted from the airing line-up and with no longshot backups like DVDs ever being sold the original copies were just straight up lost. They don't want to admit it though (not that they really need to either), and they can't release episodes for streaming with burn-ins from archive footage now matter how nice it might be otherwise. So unless and until someone _at Disney_ wants to go through the effort of restoring the content to its baseline standard it's just not gonna materialize on official channels.
I mean, I'd like to see Pixar characters interact with the other Disney characters. I do agree about Marvel/Fox/Lucasfilms, it would be a bit jarring in my opinion (if only because they weren't originally from Disney)
Wow i didn’t realize Disney works was just episodes added to the show that’s clever. I thought it was made for the house of mouse and other shows on Disneys animation staff. I remember back in 2018-19 I asked the Disney movie club if they would ever release the rest of the muppet series and bonkers and even the house of mouse. They said they would bring that to their head department but they didn’t seem to know the house of mouse even existed. They mentioned the Christmas movie but that’s as far as their acknowledgement of its existence went. I tried to explain it was at one point a series and there was a Halloween movie special too but that was a dead end. But a few months later they informed me it would soon be available on their new streaming service. Great to hear but still waiting for a way to purchase these shows.
I really enjoyed this on Toon Disney. Both the nightclub setting and crossover element really felt like something from the same world as Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The episode where they show the rubber hose b&w cartoons is a such standout. I wish they had used this show more to explore more of Disney's long history.
I vividly remember watching Disney VHS tapes that had House of Villains advertisements and I was begging my parents to buy it so I could watch it, but we could never find a copy anywhere

I really wish this would get a reboot or continuation considering all the new fun characters they could add for interactions. But alas, it seems Disney forgot about this gem.
The most charming (and unintentionally funny) thing about that series was the mere concept of the whole Disney universe taking a day off to chill in a venue where Mickey and his close friends do a variety show.
I wasn't even born when the House of Mouse aired, but my older sister was. Ever since i was born, I've watched multiple episodes with hr and even the halloween and christmas specials with her. Many years later, we still watch them together every spooky orn christmas season and it's really sweet, I really wishes more people knew about it honestly.

@@Nekoinuhanyouyeah, but that was in a scene OUTSIDE of the club. Other non-animation studio characters live in the town, but don't go to the club, with the exception of cartoon characters that appear in live action movies. There are other examples of this, like when theme park characters, like the residents of the Haunted Mansion or Tiki Room birds, would appear to perform acts or when Donald dressed like Pixar characters to win a costume contest.
@@OpticalSorcerer Honestly a Pixar crossover would be funny if you could do it right( Like the episode could be like The Pixar characters invading the house of Mouse or Have the crossover episode be dedicated to Merida cause she’s the only Disney Pixar Princess and it would be kinda funny)
But SPA’s first movie wasn’t in 2001
@@rubiks_20 True, but while House of Mouse was still airing, Sony released their first animated project, a short film titled “The ChubbCubbs!”, and it was shown in theaters right before Men in Black II and Stuart Little II.
Definitely a special time in animation!
If I was to bring this series back, I would do one or two things:
1. Do what Once Upon a Studio did and stick to Walt Disney Animation characters, while still bringing in the newer characters to interact with the classics. And bring in Oswald and Ortensia.
Or
Same
Imagine Bill just chilling in a chair
For the TV shows, Chibi Tiny Tales is really close.
agreed, it could work
And The Owl House and The Replacements.
and also Oswald as the main character with Mickey and also Ortensia with Minnie ^^
Now I want a HOM revival more than ever after seeing once upon a studio!
Only if they put SOTS characters in, or it will fail.
Once Upon a Studio is Disney’s BIGGEST Animation Crossover
Is it, though...?
Kinda wish this show was on Disney+
I remember being a kid and the idea of a crossover being a thing that could exist being extremely mind-blowing
They could even just cut those scenes/episodes out and still have the show itself.
@@zanemlewis96no don't
If they did a Revival of House of Mouse then we could get the Disney Characters that appeared in Once Upon a Studio plus others that weren't in the Photo (Like Jenny Foxworth, Sykes, Rourke, Helga Sinclair, Meg (Paperman), Denhai, Sitka, etc) and Pixar Characters with more Disney Interactions.
They should also add in sequel characters as well, like Angel from Latt2 Kovu Lars, the artist, Leroy, etc.
Disney has so many wasted forgotten and ignored characters.
And have the villains portrayed as evil, no respect for Mickey and team up with Pete sometimes while causing trouble.
Yeah. We need a fixed up version of that short with plenty more characters added in.
Yes! Don’t forget Zira, Morgana, Judge Doom, Toon Patrol, etc.
I was in the age demographic for House of Mouse and I remember it really fondly, especially the House of Villains special. My most vivid memory is pausing it to run out the door for trick or treating when I was little. I also genuinely enjoyed all of the shorts, it was a great way to get exposure to the older animations!
My favorite episode of house of mouse was when Peter Pan yeeted Donald in the fricking sky while singing and he rhymed beak with aerodynamic 💀
And how ironic that Once Upon a Studio just came out.
Raw Toonage! Great referrence - you win today's deep cut award.
I just cant stop laughing at the cookie carnival scene. How the sploodges go with the song.
Way back when I showed my friends the scene with Mickey having a drink of water like a hamster, they lost their minds.
I just watched that one yesterday on here lol
Do you ever remember the infamous Mickey Mouse Works shorts Minnie Takes Care of Pluto and Pluto Gets the Paper: Vending Machine? If they ever revived House of Mouse, they would probably show the Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse shorts and included more animated characters from the Disney Animated Canon including every other character from Tarzan, Dinosaur, and every movie in the canon from Lilo and Stitch onwards, as well as characters from Pixar films.
I’d like it if kingdom hearts went this crazy with the crossover potential. Imagine Beast teaming up with Sully to take on heartless
I used to watch house of villans
I saw "Once Upon A Studio" and it just makes me miss House Of Mouse all that much more. I'd watch that show all the time back on Toon Disney and always looked forward to it when I got home from school.
I'd love a reboot of House Of House with a mix of new and classic cartoons but I'd ssettle for just putting the series on their streaming service. I don't know why they haven't, they 100% own the material.
That song, "It's Our House Now" has spawn off way too many AMV's on RUclips!
Had no idea it wasn't the main series and just one movie!
after i watched once upon a studio, i realized we REALLY need a house of mouse reboot/revival!!
I think it was because of Roy E. Disney that’s why this show hasn’t been released on home videos outside of the Christmas and Halloween specials.
Thanks so much! So glad that you found and enjoy my stuff!
House of mouse is one of my favorite shows from my childhood and i just don't understand why it's still not in disney plus, like why is that???
Even heroes and villains can get into the spirit of the holidays!
Glossed over it there but King Mickey is the most important depiction of the character to me 🔑
Imagine if the series got rebooted and the newer Disney characters showed up...
Rapunzel would solo half of them.
House of Mouse was also on Disney Channel
God damn, I had no clue that Brain Setzer did the intro to House of Mouse! No wonder I loved it!
That was a great video!! 👏👏
Just subscribed- can't wait to dive into your older content!🎉
8:50 Those "light cycles" from Tron are probably the only reference to a computer animated film in House of Mouse, so no PIXAR cameos for you.😢
That crossover series deserved better!
Y'know what's funny is I just ran a search for 'house of mouse' and like 90% of it is up on YT. (5 of the 52 episodes are down)
They're not even trying to hide it either.
This leads me to believe that not only HoM but the whole of the Mouse Works shorts just never got added to any content library.
Thanks for covering the movies as well.
Totally! I mean, they are part of the House of Mouse's story, right?
Absolutely. Your channel is criminally underrated. I hope the algorithm blesses you soon. The quality is already there.
Thanks - I really apprecaite it! Just enjoying the ride so far.
I wish this show will get revived for a new generation with no characters from pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel or fox.
Let's keep it at classic Disney.
Yeah - Pixar could probably squeak in there, but the others would be insanity.
I mean, I'd like to see Pixar characters interact with the other Disney characters. I do agree about Marvel/Fox/Lucasfilms, it would be a bit jarring in my opinion (if only because they weren't originally from Disney)

In case anyone is curious, House is Mouse is on RUclips. They have their own channel here with full episodes. You’re welcome ☺️
"Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover"
Me:
I vividly remember watching Disney VHS tapes that had House of Villains advertisements and I was begging my parents to buy it so I could watch it, but we could never find a copy anywhere
12:51 I remember seeing this one numerous times as a child. Such nostalgia! This was also the first time I had ever seen such an ambitious Disney crossover in my life! It was so mind-blowing back in the day!🥰🎄
I really wish this would get a reboot or continuation considering all the new fun characters they could add for interactions.
But alas, it seems Disney forgot about this gem.
10:13 hmm just realized it’s like a Disney version of the muppet show
Now I'm wishing modern Disney shows like Owl House, Amphibia, Gravity Falls and Sofia the First got the House of Mouse treatment.
The most charming (and unintentionally funny) thing about that series was the mere concept of the whole Disney universe taking a day off to chill in a venue where Mickey and his close friends do a variety show.
Before we had the Chip & Dale: Rescure Rangers Movie or any of the Lilo & Stitch Crossovers, there was House of Mouse
House of Mouse should have been a restaurant in the parks!
I remember seeing that clip of that one house of mouse episode where Donald's at stage everybody was booing, and that Kinda feel like the same way that happened to squidward in that talent show episode of spongebob
I also love all the cartoons from Disney, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network!
PowerPuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Rugrats, etc are some of my favorites and I love it just as much as I love Goof Troop, House of Mouse and more
1:31 That was Genie's Steamboat Willie reference in Aladdin: King of Thieves.😂
This show was pretty good and state of art oh man House of Mouse is one of my favorite Disney TV shows I haven't wafched the show in a long time but it would be super good to have a reboot.
I wanted to rewatch Mickey's House of Villains over Halloween and was gutted that it wasn't on Disney+. So nostalgic over that movie.
16:26 Definitely the crown jewel of these was "How to haunt", where Goofy basically kills himself to become a ghost and try to haunt "fearless" Donald. That's surprisingly dark!😨☠👻
seeing hades and tigger in the same frame is something I didn't know I needed
You sir, Have a great format. Fantastic content. Subscribed right after this video. Thank you for providing so much information in a fun and energetic way.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm just glad whenever I can make something that people enjoy!
Honestly whenever I watched this show I always fast-forwarded through the cartoons cause i wanted to get back to the nightclub hehe
20:27 Until the Rescue Rangers movie, which brought back the groundbreaking fusion of 2D animation and live action from Who framed Roger Rabbit back to the modern film era.😉
I really like this series! Great job on the video!! You sound a lot like Jordan fringe and I’m here for it!
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it!
I’d imagined a Disney crossover platform fighter game in the same vein as Super Smash Bros. and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl with lots of playable characters from different Disney franchises that would complement other Disney crossover video games!
