  • I bought this engine from a guy that let it sit for years, If we can get it running , it will be used in the 1969 Chevelle for this years hotrod power tour.

    I have a 496 I rebuilt 3 times in 1 year in my garage ..They are easy to work on ..I had a friend spend time with me teaching me everything I need to know about these motors ..I have it now in a frame off restoration 64 Impala SS

    I appreciate the honesty of your videos. It actually takes multiple tries, sometimes many try’s in my garage when working on things. So many of the other channels edit out the failed attempts. Thanks for sharing.

    Degrease, replace all the gaskets and do a tune up. Should run well.

    Ya know you can put distributor hold down tab on and tighten just snug so you can move by hand but won't move on its own.

    Dont forget 454 has a weighted flywheel or a plate that bolts behind the flywheel like a weight.

      All other big blocks are internally balanced

      Right on, the flywheel I have is weighted on the back side.

      @@streetratgarage noticed that. I have the same flywheel but its new. It was specified for a 454 and it had a weight as well so you probably have the right one.
