I was not aware there was a longer version to this song 😢
It always hurt to see a killer song clipped for MTV. If you ever end up checking out Type O Negative's Black No. 1, go with the audio only version for the same reason.
i commented that in many previous videos :) you must have forgot
What you were looking for is called a "pinch harmonic". It's done with a different type of picking style which uses a bit of the finger on the string.
Yea man you missed the intro which is the most beautiful part
We told you, we told you!
RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinny Abbott
That squeal from the guitar is called a pinch harmonic! Slightly catching the vibration of the string with your thumb as you pick, love dimebag this riff is great!
What's a "fry"? I think I've heard that term before, relating to a guitar, and that Zak Wylde does it a lot.
I believe it’s the same thing just called something different. I’ve only really ever heard “fry” in terms of like vocal fry.
If you want an example Zakk uses pinch harmonics in Ozzy’s song “No more tears”
@jimmymyers9377 OK, thanks. And now that you mentioned it I think I may have heard the term fry associated with vocals and then misremembered 🥴. I'm very familiar with Zakk and that song, though. I actually met him once and got to have a few drinks with him and talked about music and Ozzy. He's a trip!!
Check out Black Label Society Zakk Wylde is an awesome shredder
I was thinking it was a string bend. Maybe similar… either way, Dimebag was one of the GOATs for sure
\m/
Thats a Dimebag Darrell pinched harmonic Dime style! Rest in peace Dime & Vinnie! the world is difference and sucks without you guys!
Getcha pull babe!!!!
Dimebag is the undisputed GOAT of heavy metal guitarists, he was literally buried with Eddie Van Halens guitar. So glad you ran that solo back to listen to it again, it's my second favorite solo by him after 'The Sleep'
It really touches my soul to see younger people appreciate the music that I listened to in my late teens early twenties. Good on ya kid🤘🏻🔥💥🙏🏻💯
I came to say the same brother. These songs were the soundtrack in my first car when I was in high school. Nice to see them still getting the love they deserve. 🤘
The Young blood is Good.
That entire year, the only 2 cd's that played in my car were Vulgar Display & La Sexorcisto!!
Me too😁 I remember 1st hearing this in my car on the radio.. early 20's. Just blew me away!
Baby, never NEVER forget the bass player. Rex Brown was Pantera's.
Cliff Burton (RIP), formally of Metallica was the greatest bass player EVER. I always have to shout out the bassists!
People seem to forget Rex.
@@Almcingrid3663 It's ALWAYS the bass player that is forgotten/left out. I hate that!
@@chueysmama2622 I know! And Rex is one hell of a bassist. Let's not even mention Lemmy!
Claypool is the best ever. No disrespect but it's not close.
Best ever. Not likely
You are now a metal head ...the music where they play instruments and are good at it ❤
In your free time, you definitely should check out the full version. This is one of my favorites.
yeah the guitar intro really makes the riff drop 3x times harder
Re-record with the full version so we can react to you reacting to your reaction from your first reaction…. I think.
Those high notes at the end are an example of Dime’s signature squeals. He dumps the bar, picks up a natural harmonic, then rips the bar back to send em screaming several octaves up.
Hollow is the final track on the Vulgar Display Of Power album, and I think you should check that out soon.
His vocals in the track "This love" is even better for the calm parts. It's a great song. Now that you've done Walk, Cowboys from hell, and cemetary gates, "This love" is the natural next choice.
If your liking Pantera I recommend “hollow” love that song
Pinch harmonic. Dime was possibly the greatest at them. One of the very best to pick up a guitar. Was lucky enough to see prime Pantera twice. Epic experience
If you want to hear a wide vocal range I can't recommend enough the vocal phenom known as Mike Patton, lead singer of Mr. Bungle, Faith No More and Tomahawk. His vocals are at times beyond comprehension. That's why he's known as the man of a thousand voices for good reason.
Mike Patton is my favorite front man. Dude has 1000 voices and total control over his sound
Couldn't agree more
Example.. (The Gentle Art of Making Enemies) ruclips.net/video/t8v4SgbLij8/видео.html
Mike Patton,Dimash and Kyo all have phenomenal range and control. But it's surprising they're not that popular
Mouth for war and 5 minutes alone next reactions by mighty Pantera
His vocals are nuts....underrated 💯 ....PHILL IS A BEAST🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
There are no words to describe just how amazing dimebag was on guitar.
This love (studio version not the music video. Music video cuts a lot of cool parts out) is another great song, and is one of the last songs they released with clean vocals (the term you were looking for lol). Also planet caravan (black Sabbath cover) is another great song!
Strength Beyond Strength and A New Level are two of my favorites that you should check out. The grooves are unbeatable.
Probably the most reacted to metal video of all time is Jinjer - Pisces (LIVE IN STUDIO version). Its a trip to say the least.
Pinch harmonics is what that sound was. Dimebag was famous for using all solid state equipment which gave him that heavy tone all of us metal guitarists die for.
I’m always surprised how NO ONE does a reaction to HOLLOW by them. The soft vocals are so damn good on that.
You need the studio version, one of the best intros in this or any genre, makes the song even MORE epic
Those squeaks you hear in the opening riff are called pinch harmonics. It's where the pick and the thumb hit the string at the same time. LISTEN TO POLYPHIA, PLAYING GOD
Dude, listen to the full album version, you are missing the intro, a full verse and some lovely Dimebag moments.
Yeah man, Phil is such a well rounded vocalist. He had a huge range, and could do operatic cleans just as well as he could produce the gritty screams. Good stuff!
PANTERA is so badass Awesome reaction mollyboy !!! 🤘🔥🎸🇺🇸💯...
My favorite Pantera Song.Rock on
You should check out their cover of Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan... it's amazing.
This is Phil Anselmo's Rob Halford rendition he is a massive Rob Halford fan from Judas Priest and his solo works too like Fight and Halford so I reccomend you keep reacting to Judas Priest then his next band Fight and his latest band Halford. In the album Halford - Live Insurrection Rob compilates all his carreer with his own band playing Judas Priest classics, Fight from the 90's and new tracks from Halford band definitely worth the time listening to the whole album he really shows his vocal range live here.
The first time I heard this song we had a surround sound system in the living room, and my brother had some CD playing while me and him were doing stuff with our Christmas presents. When he said hey Alex, check out the song I’m like OK so I’m riding around on my scooter and I hear this and I’m like that was awesome. I didn’t appreciate Pantera‘s other work until later, but that was the song that got me hooked on the band and is still my favorite Pantera song to this day
The sound is called a harmonic pick. It's where the guitarist picks a string with a plastic pick but the thumb also it's it after causing the string to vibrate differently making a harmonic screaming sound.
Congrats on reaching 15K!!!!
Thank you!!
If you like Phil Anselmos calmer vocals, you should check out the New Orleans All-Star-Band Down.
Phil is the singer there, too. They're like a mixture of Southern Rock, Doom Metal and Sludge. "Stone the crow", "Ghosts along the Mississippi", "Bury me in smoke", "Learn from this mistakes" or "On march the Saints" are good songs to start with.
And, mate, please don't crunch to much. Shure it's a lot of work to make a channel grow, but get yourself one free day a week. Beliefe me.
There is another song in this vein that I have NEVER heard anyone react to called Hollow . You should be the first !
This song is a great representation of Phil's vocal range. Thanks for the reaction!
Definitely my favorite Pantera song
The genius of Pantera😂❤❤❤😎🎸🎸🥁🥁🎤
The ☝️ is called a Pitch Harmonic.
Shame this wasn't the proper version 😢 You should check it out🤘🏻
The guitar squeals in this song are truly unforgettable. I remember the first time I heard this song and that main riff melted my brain.
Pick the string and rub your thumb against it at the same time. I love playing harmonics. The squeals.
Pantera!! You made my day! 🤘
Those squeals are called “pinch harmonics”! Dime was insane at them as well as a lot of other guitarists. Great video!
Rob Halford (Judas Priest) was a huge influence on Phil Anselmo’s vocals earlier in his career.
This album (Cowboys From Hell) has the best combination of Phil’s soaring vocals and his harsh vocals. Incredible and groundbreaking album.
that does make sense. Halford was and is still a beast.(god of metal)
the high notes he hits aren't easy to hit
Pantera Rules
This song came out at the tail end of the glam metal era, which still dominated the radio until Nirvana, Metallica, and hip hop all destroyed it at the same time. This song was probably written with the radio in mind, which is why Phil Anselmo has said he hates the song. He's much more chill now than he was in the 1990s and 2000s, so I wonder if he still hates the song.
Another excellent reaction vid. Would like to see you do some fast paced Pantera tracks. Maybe Fucking Hostile, Strenth Beyond Strength or Heresy
Oh, snap!
It’s called a “pinch harmonic”
Legend has it, and it would surprise no one that it's fact, that Dime went into the studio completely pissed and did the solo in a single take and left
You gotta check out " A New Level"! Time for some pissed off Pantera!
YEAH!! FUCKING HOSTILE 😊😊
It's hard to believe this song came out 30+ years ago, I was jamming this during DESERT STORM, our whole unit/ Division was jamming it.
Texas, baby. I used to shake these guy's hands after small venue performances. I cry for the tragedy of their fate. 💔
Thanks for introducing this music to me young man! You’re never too old to appreciate legendary musicians 😎👵🏼💜✌🏼
Been hoping for this one! Fantastic. The high vocals and guitar at the end are just sensational
Favorite Pantera song!
Vulgar Display of Power (Walk) is such a better album IMHO. It's more brutal, but has soulful bits too like 'This Love'. Cowboys from Hell album (Cemetary Gates) still has vestiges of their cheesy glam roots. Please have a listen to other cuts from Vulgar Display of Power. If you want brutal go for 'Rise' and 'A New Level'. If you want soulful, try 'This Love'. Why not do 'em all? You won't regret it.
I don't how people keep getting this video recommended to them but this video takes out the intro to the song. It's small but it's still part of the song and important
dimebag was a magic man on guitar the soul felt notes he created sends chills theu ur spine i miss him so much i was fortunate to see him live once upon a time & i saw vinne paul b4 he died on hellyeah tour the abbot brothers so sorely missed bro
I cry everytime....perfect song
One of they greatest band EEEEVAAAAAHHHHH!
I am loving your journey my dude
Congratulations. I wanted you to hear this !
The song Shattered by Pantera is a good one to hear what Phil can do with his voice.
Oh that's awesome thank you 🤘🤘
Recommendation, "5 MINUTES ALONE" "THIS LOVE" "PRIMAL CONCRETE SLEDGE"
*You left me incomplete, all alone as the memories now unfold.*
That my boy is something we call greatness
Your young put in the work brother...we here for it 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Always!
Vinnie Paul is the brother of Dimebag. Vinnie is also dead.
Rex Brown is on bass
Awesome eargasm! 💋
Another great solo by Dime was on the album before this. Song called We'll Meet Again.
Love ur channel man.
From Pantera, check out: Psycho Holiday, Suicide Note part 1 & 2, Floods, Art of Shredding, Revolution is My Name.
Suicide Note Part 1 immediately followed by Suicide Note Part 2 back to back by Pantera in the same video is the only way to do it because they merge into one another. It's a grandiose thing!
I just watched three Pantera reactions in a row I'm obliged to sub awesome reactions bro
🤘🏼🦌🤘🏼
The whole vulgar display of power is AWESOME
As an old fuk, it brings me joy watching you hear these songs for the first time. Pantera wasn't as big as Metallica, but we're darn good and in a league of their own.
My buddy was friends with the audio engineer for Pantera and he partied with Dime. I got to see some home video of dime. My buddy has passed away. Audio engineer is the engineer for Toadies now.
Another group that will blow. It's called system of a down. Especially their song BYOB😮
Pantera all day 💪🤘
Congrats on 15K subs, man! 🤘
Thank you!
The guitar solo in this tune is argued by many (including me) to be among the best solos EVER written!
It’s as you said, like you’re supposed to feel it! It’s played like he was singing his heart out! 🤘❤️🙌
You'll love this one!
Rip Dime n Vin. Pantera the baddest fucking band to ever live!
They wrote a song for the Dallas Stars (NHL) that’s still played at home games.
I'm not sure if you saw me request this or if you foubd it another way, but its a great tune. I love the dueling voice/guitar.
Straight up anguish on the strings. My heart being ripped out. The trauma. Man
Dime harmonics are in a world of its own. Miss that man and his music
Greatest Metal song ever 🤘🏼
This was the "tell" song that told you they were originally a glam band that decided to go groove/thrash.
Black Label Society Zack Wilde was famous for pinch harmonics. Also good friends with Dimebag. They have a song in this river dedicated to dimebag.
I wanted to watch you react to this one Bro. I'm Broken and 5 Minutes Alone are my favorites.
I will ALways remember Dime from this lead.
Phil had a beautiful voice back in the day, strong and steady, then he'd KICK YOUR ASS! I love'd it. Plus, ladies, come on, he was gorgeous! Right?
Don't forget Rex, the Bassist. Still kicking it
Ah, that sound is the legendary Dimebag!
Pinch harmonics is the noise you speak of
