      Your channel somehow unlocked the magic of searching for very specific info you need, being able to find and digest that info VERY quickly, AND having it in Video form - That's an extremely rare thing to see in video format. Cannot say enough good things about this learning resource. Easily one of the best on RUclips.

    I've been modelling stuff using 3ds Max for 12 years, but I have never felt so excited to get my hands on a software like Plasticity. Pixel Fondue, Nikita Kapustin, PolyPaul and Arrimus are champions.
    Thanks mate

    If I had 3 hands, I'd give your summary for learning Plasticity 3 thumbs UP. Excellent summary of the learning basics & procedures to be followed and I agree with your recommendations of the tutorials. For me specifically what hit home... re-learning Blender basics before I tackle Plasticity was an eye opener - I didn't think of that. Thank You. Cheers...

    Good overview of Plasticity. Just curious where you got the caravan model footage from? I'm actually refitting one at the moment and I wouldn't mind seeing how they went about it inside Plasticity. Might be time to buy a license. I'm loathing the idea of using F360.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  3 месяца назад

      Hey thanks alot! The caravan footage is actually from an unfinished game asset I'm working on it is not made to any specification and is essentially a fantasy hybrid from several pictures. I'll check if I've got a recording and maybe upload a time Lapse, no promises though I'm not sure if I recorded the process or not
      But it was very easy to put together all the same.

    Yes to your first two recommendations, but Kuechmeister Swagger's "tutorials" are, as he said in his reply to a comment I made on one of his videos, 'not intended to be tutorials for people learning or advancing their skills in Plasticity' which is a shame. His videos are basically there to demonstrates his capabilities, which are quite prodigious. My main issue with his videos is their lack of commentary and they are too fast even at half speed also, difficult to follow when you don't know what his intentions are. Figuring out his actions can be quite painful even when his mouse clicks are shown. I don't know if the lack of commentary is because his English language does not match his modeling skills, but in the end they are what they are.
    There are a lot of undocumented tricks in Plasticity that I've picked up from other users videos and the commands listed in the Plasticity documentation are very poorly explained and I'd say that the documentation is the worse feature of the program.
    BTW I've been 3D modeling since 1990/91.

      I agree with you, and hear what you are saying, they aren't step by step tutorials but I can't say I haven't not learned from them, all though I can't replicate the stuff he does at all, I would go as far to say it's shown me what is possible and over all improved my understanding and pushed me to attempt things I wouldn't have thought of, so while I agree it's not a tutorial channel perse, it's certainly a place you can go to learn, by absorbing the info, I wouldn't have even thought to try to follow along to be honest 😅

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  6 месяцев назад

      Also re the documentation I absolutely agree, I really hope that by version 2 we have a comprehensive official wiki that is maintained and explained

      KS really shows what is possible with Plasticity. Sure it's a advertisement for him but I would think his RUclips plasticity videos probably have decided the minds of most of the purchasers...IT CAN DO THAT! etc. etc.
      I wouldn't expect KS to give up how and what he's doing (and why to), as it's his decades of knowledge and skill / experience that makes his living.
      There's enough Plasticity tutorials and learning services on YT to be able to pick it up.
      I doubt very much that Plasticity 2.0 will have anymore training than v1 ever did had. The YT content creators act as the training AND also rather conveniently provide mass advertising / marketing buzz fanfare noise.

    Ive been working with Plasticity for about a year, and unfortunately I keep starting over because I uavent been able to consistently devote the time I need to it. However, I keep hearing it referred to as CAD. Its not CAD. Its not a polygon modeler though. Its a NURBS modeler. Bodies are based on math, which is why boolean ops work so much better than, say Blender. But it isnt CAD.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  6 месяцев назад +2

      It's definately CAD, just some people turn their nose up at it because it's not a full blown engineering package for making functioning space ships!
      It's like it says on the tin, *Cad for artists"

    • @gregtracy9322
      @gregtracy9322 6 месяцев назад +1

      @takerefuge3d I guess in the same tense as "Calculus for Poets". It's not what I'd define as CAD, wherein dimensioned drawings are produced. I can see what you're saying though. It all depends on the way you're defining it.
      And my apologies, I commented before I had a chance to watch the whole video earlier. Very well done, and I see you mentioned what I had said concerning booleans. lol. I'm a CNC operator as well as a long time 3D printing designer, with 9 years of Fusion 360 and almost as much Blender experience. And prior to that Rhino 3D (more NURBS). I've been looking for a suitable replacement for F360 when they finally pull the rug out from under their hobbyist users and make it a full pay subscription application. Insofar as that goes, Plasticity isn't quite there. It is a very nice step between the two though, especially with the latest release offering more in terms of measurements and dimensions. I'll often build projects in Fusion and export sketches as DXF for CAM for the CNC, but I'm not sure that's a direction that Plasticity would want to go. It definitely leans a bit closer to Blender in terms of UX, but I greatly appreciate how much easier it is to do dimensional work in Plasticity. I can absolutely see using it for 3D printing design, especially for practical printing.
      I'm at a point where I can get back up to speed with where I left off with the program, but I'd like to find a source for better explanation for surface modeling. Kuechmeister is awesome, I just wish he would put out a single explanatory video. I know Nikita has covered this somewhat, but I have some trouble following him at times. I find myself going back and rewatching sections. Not sure why, it may be his accent. :/ Like you said though, I've gotten a lot of tips and workflow ideas from Pixel Fondue. Floyd is my absolute favorite tutorial puppet!

    I don't think it uses NURBS, it use's Siemens Parasolid kernel like OnShape, Solid Edge and Shapr3D etc. I think it's actually called BREP / Boundary Representation..although, a feature called x-nurbs is in beta in understand.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  4 месяца назад

      it uses NURBS surfaces but as I understand not all surfaces are nessacarily NURBS xnurbs is a plugin that will be provided to the higher tier which is just better at solving certain patches and lofts than plasticities implementation of parasolid.

    The linear, destructive workflow is a deal breaker for me. If my client or art director wants me to change the basic proportions of an object after complex details are added, I'm screwed. Unless I'm misunderstanding the workflow.

    • @takerefuge3d
      @takerefuge3d  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it is a destructive workflow kind of as you can dissolve fillets and Chamfers and relocate extrusions so I would call it semi destructive, would be cool to be more procedural but I feel like the work flow is really great for working at speed, having some kind of live boolean would be a great addition in my opinion though!
