    Watch how you can strip PVC pipe fittings that have been glued making it possible to reuse PVC pipe fittings. It takes some skill in order to be able to strip PVC pipe that has already been glued and setup. But this is something that a pool technician might do in a pinch for above grade repairs.

    After watching this, for sure I will drive to the store to get a part instead of wasting my time :-)

      If they dont have the part you need and it will be six weeks for them to order it in...how about then? Would you waste your time then or just let the pool go stagnant while you wait? It can be good to have a backup plan, but yes, ideally just buy and use new PVC parts.

      @@SwimmingpoolsteveYes, as a last resort it would work. Sometimes you have to be creative 😀

      @@Swimmingpoolsteve I would use the method where you heat up the pipe and then remove it. Not the method where a guy who tried to do it once (and finally succeeded after 6 hours) decided to make a how-to video on it. 🥴
      It was hot alright... a hot mess.

    I found heating a piece of metal then inserting it in to the fitting works a lot faster and easier even if the outside of elbow get warm it will go back to original shape once cooled this method also left inside of fitting the cleanest to reuse immediately without cleaning it up

    Thanks for the video. Do you know if this will work for cpvc too? Obviously, I'm hoping to replace all fittings with new, but if I get stuck in a pinch, this is an awesome way to save the day, then come back with the right fittings.

    There’s an easier way check out pvc socket saver drill bit made for pvc fitting , great job nonetheless.

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 года назад +1

      I find this method better than the tool for drilling out. I have found that the tool often cracks the fitting, where I have a very high rate of success like this. But yes they do make a tool for this

    • @robwasnj
      @robwasnj 2 года назад +1

      @@Swimmingpoolsteve I think it depends on the tool, we had a cheaper one and had issues but purchased the Reed tool and that reams them out to a smooth finish without damage. I've done a few the way you described here as well.

      Here is the other side of this fitting being stripped out. Less instruction, to show how long it takes. About 3 and a half minutes for this one: ruclips.net/video/tBdFG7LPhBM/видео.html

      That is a big project. You should speak with a professional about this who is local to you and can inspect your pool. If you have been down this road then please feel free to contact me through my website www.swimmingpoolsteve.com for more assistance with your questions.

      First drain pool than layout pool ru to drain ...start with 14 “ Diamond saw blade and work your way up to a 36 “ blade at the drain end going to pump use a 18” Diamond plunge saw to cut pipe remove pipe and Concrete plaster ...hole saw with an 8” Diane core drill and donut the pipe now re install and move to desired location use a link seal over the pipe that was donuted out ...smart azz

    Excuse my ignorance but I always thought that if you put the pipe into the fitting properly it’s basically not glued but actually melted together.

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 года назад

      It is melted together, or bonded chemically, but the heat and stripping still works

    • @NeverSuspects
      @NeverSuspects Год назад

      its a chemical weld that softens the surface of each fitting and fuses them. the weld isn't as dense as making the pipes they probably extrude under pressure my guess as to why this works as the weld fails first if it wasn't a really solid fit and clean fit with uniform spread of the chemicals. this probably doesn't work on every fitting and you will end up melting the thing to break the weld because they were effectively fused into a single piece...

    kinda impossible to bang on a fitting that hard unless its on a workbench. Never be able to do that when its connected to a system.

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 года назад +2

      Its actually much easier on the system than like this with nothing supporting it. Or at least that has been my experience.

    i could have been to the pool store/home depot and back with a new elbow for $1.59 in the time it took you to do this....

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  4 года назад +2

      Yes when you take the time to walk through the entire process talking about the details is slower. I have a follow up where I strip the other side of this 90 in 3 minutes and 50 seconds. Is that fast enough or still too slow?

    • @Executiveinvestments-

      @ Rtee723 what if your store is closed? What if your store does not have this in stock? What if the nearest store is an hour away?

      Try that with the connection to your pump, filter or chlorinator. For my pump it was going to be $50 plus a week shipping. Some fittings are easier to replace than others.
