Oh man!! You lost some expensive stuff!! It was a reminder to not ever leave your kids in the car while you go get something real fast. They will take kids and all. So sorry for your troubles!! Jack is so cute, and going through the tough 2's & more. He has been the only child with all the attention, so he is very sensitive!! Your both such WONDERFUL PARENTS WITH LOTS OF LOVE & PATIENCE!! As an early childhood specialist who has worked with and helped countless children, with Jack's tantrums what you want to do is wait for him to calm down before addressing him. Ignore the tantrums and whining, or say in a simple, calm voice "we can talk when you're calm". That will reinforce positive communication which is really essential to his development. Now is the age for him to learn it!
Another idea: having a cozy calm-down area with pillows, books, and fidgets is helpful, so he has a place to go to settle down if he gets upset. We have one in every classroom I've worked in and they are just great at helping kids settle themselves and regulate.
Also, validating his emotions (saying: I can see you are frustrated. Go and calm down, then we can talk) will work wonders.
It seems like he is thriving on the attention he gets when he throws a tantrum or whines right now. It's very typical behavior at his age, but it needs to be corrected when it happens or it becomes much less cute when they are 5 years old and are still throwing themselves on the floor if they don't get what they want. Once they are taught how you expect them to behave, they will rise to the expectations. I hope this helps, I noticed all the meltdowns and wanted to offer some tips.
Children this Young should have help to calm Down i believe. I see what you mean and Think there are a lot from it you Can use. But at a Young age they should not be left alone or made a Big deal out of it just be available and help Them calm Down maybe ask if they need a little time alone when they g’et calmer. I would never leave a child alone a tantum is not being naughty its dealing with emotions and i remember it was often not the emotions that seemed to trigger it but something deeper. Offer Them presense and support and comford . When they are calmer talk ask what is going on or do you need a little break alone. Then initiale play or cosy time or ask if they Will join you in what you do. Dont be upset but stay calm if possible at all . As they g’et older and have more skills handling emotions it Can be beneficial to give Then a break alone but still talk to Them deprnding of the reason and reaction. Thats just my oppinion and experience after being a parent and working in a kindergarden ect and Reading tons og books. Its the scandinavian Way i guess. Im danish. When my kids were school age and started whining, I told them I don’t speak, “Whinese”. They needed to gather themselves, and calmly and respectfully, voice their concerns.

It’s normal at this age for kids to act up when a new baby arrives. They feel confused, insecure, needy, etc. You both are doing such a great job. It will help other young parents.
They're doing a fantastic job. There was 4 years between my brother and I so I was mummy and daddies little princess for 4 years and isn't quite grasp that he wasn't going back to where he came from and when I realised he was staying I was not a happy bunny I went from a well behaved little girl to a very naughty little girl. My mum started to bottle feed my brother and got me involved in his care which helped but I was older than little Jack.

There is a story, young lady in Texas. Hanging out with her boyfriend and friends. She was talking with a group of girls had her back to the street. Thank goodness her boyfriend's friend followed her over there. Watching her. And her boyfriend just oblivious to her. Men drove up close and tried to grab her through the window. If it wasn't for her boyfriend's friend. She would have been robbed. No joke she broke up with her boyfriend and she's actually dating that fella I was like awesome. Smart girl..
There's a fella that had his truck stolen but it was stolen by being parted out. It was stripped of everything. Behind a gate. He got a new truck. They did it again..
Oh we have crime going on left and right. And these individuals are put right back on the streets. As a matter of fact, an officer died chasing a carjacker fell off a bridge. And these individuals were felons. many of the people that are doing crime such as drunk driving wild stealing cars it's been up to King so hugely. In New York I watch some guy almost get carjacked but he drove him into another vehicle smart man. No accountability. This is huge. We're talking the workings within our whole system and our government. Yeah no accountability. This is huge

When I lived on Oahu all the radio stations participated in 'The Posse'. You just called in and let them know the details of when and where your car was stolen and they announced it so all the listeners kept a eye out for the car. Helped the police recover the cars extremely fast before the thief had a chance to strip the car or do much damage. Often the thief would hear himself being tailed by several someones on the radio and just abandon the car and take off before the police could get there. What happened to The Posse ?

As a parent who once had a highly sensitive and spirited toddler (they're 26 now), I can assure you that Jack's intensity and sensitivity, coupled with your connected and positive parenting style, will manifest itself into exceptional talent, ability and creativity. @@RSUDE from a very early age they were highly, emotionally sensitive. They cried a lot. They walked early, they talked really early. Instead of talking as a preschooler, they often sang instead. There was evidence of early musical and theatrical talents. Early signs of perfectionism in school and art... Just to name a few. There's a lot that I've learned now that they're an adult and we can talk about it and have hindsight.

I had no clue that it was such a big problem in Hawaii but it truly does sound like a nightmare!
My cousin and his wife were career Navy and had been stationed in Hawaii. They were transferred out but, after they both retired, they decided it was where they wanted to live. He did say there was a lot of theft there -- more than anywhere they were stationed -- and was the "only drawback of living there" but another time he said there was a lot of drugs too. Stay safe, guys!
We had our corvette stolen twice in the 1970’s! Even then it was bad. We had a carport not an enclosed garage, which a lot of homes have.
I adore this couple. It's so amazing to see how supportive they are towards each other. I keep coming back for more content to remind myself that this is the kind of partnership I want and deserve and I shouldn't settle for anything less.
I very much appreciate that you guys at least mention when Jack has a meltdown, otherwise people could have the impression they’re doing something wrong because Jack is always calm, nice and excited when something happens.

@@cbhjsrmommy Sounds like we’re living similar lives. I have 2 kids though. A 2 year old, and a 14.5 year old. Both tough ages. I feel like a maid, a cook, a counselor, and a taxi most days. It’s easy to get lost and frazzled in all of that. You’re very strong to be tending to 7 at one time! Bless you and your family. I wish both our spouses would learn a thing, or two from Derrick. 😊

Yes plz change the locks and make sure your windows are locked always. And it’s so easy to think oh I’ll just run in for a second when the kids are buckled in but don’t do it. If someone is watching that’s the very second they’ll make their move. Your babies are so beautiful. If it means taking them back out of the car then take them back out. I guess if they’re strapped in and the doors are locked and you have the keys in hand, might be ok but gosh you never know. Don’t want to live in fear by any means but being cautious is a good practice. Stuff can be replaced and it’s of no eternal value but our loved ones can’t be replaced. ❤

watching new parents dealing with toddler meltdown is fricking hilarious... reminds me of the difference between how I reacted to my toddler meltdowns when I was 20 versus my last toddler (surprise baby) meltdown when I was 42. you guys are doing great
I had my first baby at 21 and second baby at 26. Then…surprise! Pregnant at 41!!!! Our little guy is 6 months old, so he isn’t yet having tantrums, but my husband and I have such a different perspective now vs when we were new parents in our 20s. I think it’s important to remember that kids go through so many phases and stages and to try to be patient and keep a level head. They are only little for such a short time. Like all things “this too shall pass.”
Not normal. This young child needs his parents full attention and not a camera in his face 24/7.
I am glad the parents stay so patient. I am sure they are looking into how gradually to start to 'deal' with this. The brain develops until a person is about 25 years so there's a long way to go. There are little things parents can start already doing to start build up a child's patience, reactions and a tiny bit of emotion regulation. Not too much as it is just a tiny little kid still. Lovely loving family!
I had my 15 year old at age 21 I just had my 6th baby a year and a half ago at age 36, it really is a HUGE difference in everything lol
@vintage lover6 omg thats exactly what I did. This year I will have a 35 yr old a 32 yr old and a 20 yr old. Kept me young. Now I have two grandchildren aged 5 and 14
I had my van stolen one time! My husband at the time went to start it to warm it up for the kids and we came out it was gone! We finally got it back after a couple of days but they threw out all 4 car seats and I literally had to clean the van throughly because they found all kinds of drugs in it. So I am very sorry that happened to you all!
You deserved it for destroying the climate by having your car warm up before using it!
Did you know Texas passed a law like 30 years ago that your car is not considered stolen if it had it keys in it. Because cops were sick of it and insurance did not want if the their had been handed the keys?

I’m so sorry that happened. I just moved back home to Hawaii (Oahu) a year and a half ago and I can’t believe all the crazy stuff that’s been happening and I’m not sure why people think it’s ok to steal. That’s not the Hawaii I left when I was younger. I pray all things work out for you guys and that the car is found.
I wonder how thieves can even get away with stealing on an island. They can't leave it with the stolen item, can they?

You are both very patient, kind parents. Two is very sweet and fun, but get used to meltdowns. They pretty much don’t end until age five. Always keep in mind that your children aren’t giving you a hard time-they are having a hard time. Bless.

One thing I've learned is when these seemingly senseless things happen there's usually a lesson to learn. You guys nailed it. Sometimes people don't even think twice leaving a kid in the car to dash back in the house in 'just a minute', but now, you guys won't ever do that. A car stolen to save you from having a kid stolen is a cheap lesson learned. No guilt and no shame in cheap lessons learned.

Yes! My husband is from the country. Where they leave things in their car and don’t lock the doors. They even heat up the car with no one in it because they’re so far away from people no one would bother casing their house or car. We live in the city now and I keep being like dude! Don’t leave your valuables in the car people will steal them!!! He won’t listen and when someone breaks his windows to get his fancy video game system maybe he’ll learn. 😅

Have you tried any sensory play stations ? The non messy ones of course, I can tell Jack is super bright, he probably just needs more things to "discover" and "investigate" he's a super learner, I love watching you guys navigate his stages, because I feel your tenderness with him, it's awesome

Take this as a sign to delete your social media.
Helpful tip for keeping your apartment clean with kids: buy about 8 laundry baskets! Use one for all the socks in your family. Use the rest for gathering up toys, putting clean laundry in them, and pretty much everything. You can pile them on top of each other for quick cleanups and not feel so overwhelmed.
Cheap solution for your sanity.
BTW, laundry baskets are perfect for days out. You can toss everything you need for the kids for the day from extra clothes to toys. They hose off and are a lot easier to get to things.

I first have to say how sorry I am about all the thefts. Thats so scary. Ill be keeping you in my prayers. Get those locks changed. Secondly I am empathetic to Jacks age and the tantrums. My daughter was prone to them. I remember the doctor said to walk away and dont pay attention to her when she was in melftdown. I would walk off and do dishes and she would get up in mid meltdown and drop herself at my feet and continue lol. Not the best advise ever. Thankfully they outgrow them. :)

I hear you guys mention in more than one video and social media post how Sunny "isn't your child" because of her dark hair. A few minutes later in this video Sara says "don't say that, Jack will hear this someday"... Well: So will Sunny. I'm sure you're jokingly saying it, but you're saying it quite a lot, I feel. And I've just started following you weeks before Sunny's birth....
Man, the day that goes by and your home is no longer a mess, you're gonna be sat missing all the good times 🙂 it's best to live your life now and don't sweat the small stuff. As long as it's only clutter and clothes, who cares lol.

I'm so sorry for what all you two have been going through, especially while trying to deal with a two year old and a new baby. I am however so thankful that neither of you were hurt or the kids. Please, don't fight someone over property. You never know what weapons they may have on them or how desperate they may be to steal it. Your health and safety is much more important. I am so thankful neither one of the kids were in the car!!! I think Sunny’s hair will get lighter with time, it definitely has a blonde undertone to it. Other than her hair colour though, she honestly looks just like her big brother!

So sorry to hear this happened to you guys! It’s something we all do. I live in the UK and during our cold spells, I literally leave my car running in our drive to deice it. Things like this definitely make you think twice. ☹️
If you have 2 sets of keys you can leave your car running with it locked up. Then use second set to get back in. That's what I've done.
Change the locks asap!!! That would totally scare me.

Heck no I never leave my car running or unlocked or with the keys in it without me. Not even to get gas, I take the keys and my phone.
You can have a remote starter put on your car. When our daughter went to college up north we had it put on her car for about $400. She was able to remotely start her car from her apartment say 20 minutes early and the car remained locked. By the time she came downstairs the car and engine were warm and even if the windshield was not completely defrosted, it was very simple to finish scraping vs the windshield being coated with ice.
So many memories of my son having meltdowns. Hang in there guys, your already doing great!

2:35pm 2/9 I wanted to make a comment before but waited. I didn’t want to scare Sara. Derick announced to the world Jack and I are leaving for a week to go to Utah. Sara and Sunny are staying here by themselves. The world has seen your house knows the layout and you walk upstairs to get in the door. You made it so easy for someone to break in on them. It scared me. It would be easy for a criminal to find you. There is a lot of trafficking go on now serious. Maybe you shouldn’t give so much information. You even showed Sara taking you to the airport and leaving you. And she went back home, someone could have been waiting on them. This world is a scary place now days. Please be more careful with the info you give out. I want ya’ll to be safe❣️ 😅
Unfortunately when you put yourselves & your family on social media these things can happen. Families have had to move to a gated community, children have been bullied, taken advantage of & even hurt. So be very careful.
Aw so sorry for your misfortune. You both are awesome parents who love your kids, as it would be. If I could offer a suggestion (which I would guess you get plenty of!) cute lil Jack looks about the right age to learn to pick up toys and put them away. As children get older you could maybe start them on another chore. Ie make their beds, sweep floors. Then start them on a allowance. Nothing big, but then you can teach them to save money. Responsibility, learning to help others, respect , and saving!❤️

Personally I think you put to much of your life out on social media. That automatically makes you a target. Is it so important for you to be so visible rather than back off and lead your life quietly and focus on raising your children. Popularity isn't all its cracked up to be.
Kids need to be taught please & thank you from the start. As a registered nanny, the family & what's going to happen shouldn't operate around the toddler. Kids are told what will happen, not ask.

Sarah! I leave my keys in my car everyday! It can literally happen to anybody! This is so common! And as for Jack's constant meltdowns, try ur hardest not to feed into them! It's just cuz hes not the only child anymore and as long as he knows his fits wont be catered to he will stop, i promise.

Sarah looks great PP and I love the skirt vest outfit! Polaroid shirt too! It sucks you got your car stolen but I did read in your stories you left the keys in the car? It’s not Utah where u can trust everyone. But it still sucks. Also with Jack I’ve noticed when he melts down you give him lots of attention? Maybe try ignoring him and putting him in a quiet room to calm down. Tell him when he’s calm you can talk about it. It seems like you guys are scared when he have a melt down so you do everything so he doesn’t. You even admitted you don’t have a routine since sunny is born? Maybe he can sense that too? But it’s awesome derik spends so much time outside on the skateboard surfing beach with him! You live in an awesome place to do so.
Toddlers HATE their choices being made for them. Don't take the toy away. Ask for it. It will take a while for them to relinquish it, but this can be taught. Jack is at an age where he knows he is a separate being from you and wants to decide for himself. (Of course, with parental guidance) Firmness, patience in love is key here. No giving in. FYI

i had the same thing happen. my daughter ran out to warm me car for me at 8:10 am, I came out to leave at 8:25 am, and my car was GONE. The police found it the next morning, they pulled some people over in it, like an hour away. It was basically ok. I hope it all works out for you. 🙏

With 2 small children you guys are doing the best that you can. You and Derick are doing an amazing job with a newborn and a toddler.., ummmm...... That's not easy. We all have struggles and I love the fact that you guys keep it so real and show that your kids are having bad days and that parenting is hard. Jack appears to me to have all the sensitivities and behaviours of a highly gifted child and you might want to start giving him more educational stimulation to see where his interests and abilities lie- as both a profoundly gifted individual as well as parent of multiple gifted kids I know the signs. ❤
Change your locks. The thief most likely was casing your home. If he has your keys, you're not safe. A church young lady had her purse stolen. The police told her the criminals target pretty young women like this to get the keys. Then they come to the house with bad intentions. Please be safe.
Jack rules the roost! When my kids screamed they got punished until they had “inside voices” . Continuity. Repetitiveness. It took a few times but after that, never a scream again!.. Happy children, Happy Parents. AND Happy onlookers! Try it!! 😘
Exactly and I’m from the old school and we didn’t play around! You couldn’t get it together and use your words then in your room you went! Not saying it was right or wrong but my kids are grown and wonderful parents to their own now. Mama didn’t play that!

There is evil everywhere in the world, unfortunately. My house was ransacked as we all were at my dad’s wake, which was 8 hours. He was very active in the community and they posted an article of his achievements and wake hours. I can understand what you are going through. It’s a feeling of being vulnerable and out of control. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this.
Something similar happened to a friend of mine in highschool whose dad died. We were 18 and he had a 3 younger brothers. 17,15 and 3. We live in the Midwest but they buried him in Texas. When they got home the house had been torn apart and a bunch of stuff stolen. The fact that people can be such scum never fails to astound me! I felt so bad for his mom. Here she was a widow at 40 something with 4 children and comes home from burying her husband only to find she's been robbed. 💔 I'm so sorry this happened to you!!
Some of my farming relatives always had one family member stay home during wakes funerals

I don't think they are chill about it. They mentioned lots of tears and I'm sure a bit of anger there too, but they're calm when discussing it some days or weeks later when they filmed this.
@Banyo yes, you're right. I wasn't thinking about the time lapse. I meant no disrespect whatsoever. What I meant, is that they don't get on social media and rant. These folks deal with life's ups and downs with a great deal of maturity
@Laurie oh, I didnt think you did, just mentioning what they said. You're right though too. We all deal with terrible things but sometimes it's how we handle the situations which can make all the difference in how we move on from them.

We had a clean house up until right when our 2nd child was born. We had two under two and it was amazing but ROUGH lol. We went on to have a 3rd at under 3 under 4 😂 and things got crazier. We had our fourth in 2021 and I've given up on having a clean house. It will be clean again when I'm old.

Terrible twos - poor Baby, he’s having a hard day! The next couple years will be meltdown central but then he will suddenly become super happy & helpful and probably the best kid ever - hang in there mom & dad!! ❤
A couple of thoughts…
First- please get those locks changed. Get surveillance cameras up!
Make sure Jack knows that his meltdown behavior is not acceptable. Talk calmly and then let him figure out his emotions. Then get him occupied with something else.
Lastly. Make sure Jack is cleaning up his toys and not just you.
You’re doing great! I know when I went from one to two is was a challenge. But you’ll get your own groove!
I'd be getting a security camera like yesterday!! Lol. Sara especially with two kids!! I bought a 45$ camera off Amazon I can connect it to and watch from my smartphone. My fiance works out of town & I'm home with 2 small kids alone so it just made both of us feel alot safer.
You guys should put the camera down to focus on your children instead of making money off your children which obviously is affecting them

I love that you guys show your house messy! My mom was a neat freak and I have always felt like a failure because I could never live up to it. Seeing your house this way helps me know it is normal!

Tips from a mom that works security, I have detailed a bit to try and help. Its not that complicated AT ALL it just ended up long, sorry.
I am sorry you are experiencing this, but dont ignore your instincts. Evaluate the suggestions and NEVER react or try to physically act if you are being robbed. Its just stuff! Your family needs you safe and healthy!
Unless you can move to a gatted community... these simple steps may help a lot as thugs are lazy and tend to choose to rob people that dont have the items below BUT DONT SHOW WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO IN DETAILS ON YOU TUBE UNLESS you get a SPONSOR OR COLLAB then they should assist in what to show as to keep you safe without making it vulnerable by exposing it (especially if you are being targeted).
1.Change your locks sure. If you choose eletronic ones you can take them to a new home but use fingerprints and avoid silly passwords. Dont wifi them yet.
2. Put visible cameras on your front and back yard. If possible good ones that can identify the thugs afterwards. If you can put them out of reach, high that you can zoom in and monitor from your phone great. If not buy simpler ones, just make them visible and point them to where your stuff will be and house entry points. They are usually a good deterrant and you can use it for your vids and later for watching the kids. Make sure you get them from a serious company and set your wifi with as many security steps as possible and a long and very difficult password. Do the wifi setting yourselves!!!! Seriously...soo many clients dont set this right and defeat the purpose here. Unless its a collab avoid third party clouds unlless its mega safe, its worth the extra cash!!
If you set them up smartly you can take them with you to another house.
3. Put a BLOCKER in your next vehicles, it cuts off the gas a few miles after its taken just be aware not to block yourselves😂. AND IT SHOULD REDUCE YOUR INSURANCE COSTS (the house cameras may as well depending on your provider).
If you share too many details of how you set it up on you tube its easier for pro thugs to desingage the blocker...and avoid of hack your cameras)
4. If you dont have a secured garage or shed read this item, otherwise skip it: Being on you tube exposes your posessions making it easier for being targeted, so for bikes and related you cant lock them at the garage or add a shed with a serious code locker. For smaller expensive items put a metal box or buy iron or other strong cords with codes (like the ones used to secured laptops) and secure your stuff.
I painted my metal strong box so the kids like it, and the cords I have are secured in what I already had in the garage and in some strong poles in the yard but you can put it around whatever you have that can not be easily removed in different parts of the yard (a strong tree, a metal pole..). The kids lock them after playing I just double check.
NO ITS NOT A LOT OF WORK! It becomes a routine pretty fast.
