It warms my heart to see such a loving Daddy and his kids. What a beautiful role model of “manhood”. Back in my day(80’s/90’s) when I was a single mother of two small sons(no help physically or financially from father nor family members except grandpa and brother), it was rough. Especially when I had to go to school and eventually go to work. There were no childcare centers at that time, but luckily I had a friend from church watch my sons. It wasn’t ideal as many times my sons just didn’t go to school after I left for work. And of course I got in trouble as the parent. They also got into mischief setting fires in abandoned homes and stuff. I remember one time they both had the chicken pox but I had to go grocery shopping(around Thanksgiving) so I had to bring them. UGH good times! NOT! But one thing I don’t regret(mostly), is dedicating 10 years just to them and not even dating! And those were my best years(age 25-35)! They grew up very close to me(yet not “Mama’s Boys), went camping with me in their teens, etc. They both turned out to be wonderful men with long lasting relationships where they respect women, plus my oldest son has a son and daughter. He was a great husband and father. Now he is a single father(and still doing a “kick ass” job)!
Yes I know it amazes me you see in the 19 60's and 70's it was not like that at all at least not in my neck of the wood's. I'm so happy that dad's are more and more being actively involved with raising their kid's. You see mom's raised kid's and dad's worked. ❤

I raised 3 kids on my own. I became a widow at 37 when my youngest was just 2 yrs old. The other two were 8 and 12. Luckily for me I worked in our local middle school and knew all the people that worked in the other 4 schools. My kids had lots of Aunties, Uncles, grandmas, and grandpas to help look after them. My folks and my school family were my saving grace. You are so lucky to have your brother and all your friends to help you out. P.S...I'm kinda glad you're moving. You can't afford to have anything else stolen 😢
You're a real one who understands what it takes to raise kids and run a household! I just seen a comment dogging him cuz he had help in this video 🤬 I hope it's a kid that don't understand, it's unfortunate to see crap like that.. Mine is almost 18 & her father also passed away. I was a single mom before that happened & I'm just glad my daughter had some really great years with him. God bless you & your family ❤️
I love how comfortable you are alone with your kids even when they are crying. You have learned the golden secret that keeping yourself calm keeps them from feeding off your anxiety and escalating. That's awesome! In a world where parents are literally killing their own children this was truly uplifting and encouraging, proof that there is still good in the world.
It's people who have had good upbringings that can handle the stress. The parents that shake or worse don't have the same skills. No one teaches you how to handle the emotional pain you feel inside when hearing a baby cry. It triggers your own unmet needs. Please leave more instruction on how to stay calm, what to do and what not to do. Parents need to know.
This is now one of my favorite videos from you guys….it shows that even with all the hurdles thrown at you that you were able to persevere! Hope your meniscus heals and that Jacks ear gets better and won’t end up requiring tubes. Jack on the surf board and Sunny smiling, so adorable! Sorry about your bike but super glad that you & Jack are okay.
I want to say I absolutely loved how well you handled having your bike stolen while you’re carrying your son! I literally was enraged for a second for you but your calm approach, and immediate mindfulness of your children and the light they reminded you to bring to any horrible day was inspiring. The world needs more of this ! A sad and angering scenario and you chose love ! #lovewins
For those ppl who are commenting how irresponsible Derek was for not locking up the bike....did you ever stop to consider that when a parent is focusing on something else...even for just a few seconds that it would have taken to lock that bike up, bad things can happen? Jack could have wandered off, gotten kidnapped, hit by a car etc it only takes a few seconds for the unthinkable to happen. Give the guy a break will ya? Keyboard warriors piss me off
Derik - YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!! Most dads wouldn't even try what you're doing! I'm more proud of you than I can say! Satan threw it ALL at you and you came through with shining stars!!! 🌟 -Diana ❤️
@@kelliwillis417 - I understand that people shouldn't necessarily be praised for doing what should be expected; that's the "participation trophy" crowd. HOWEVER, given ALL that he had to handle, including a second robbery, power outage, a newborn, a toddler with a severe ear infection, an injured knee, etc., it's only proper to acknowledge him and give him the credit he MORE than deserves!!
I love the support you give each other! Y'all are both so eager to let the other go on a quick trip or spend an afternoon with friends. It's so refreshing and lovely to see. Bonus points for showing this through the lens of just being a parent on their own, not making it about being a man/ the dad that "shouldn't have to be left alone with the kids". Oh ANDDDD extra bonus points for not hiding that you have help from a nanny sometimes! I think too many people are embarrassed and want to make it look like they're doing it all alone. But we need to normalize "the village" and not shy away from helping hands!
Even with the help of the nanny, the friends, the restaurants and no financial problems, i still felt kinda sorry for Derik. Especially with all the stolen vehicles and the very smalll baby. And he only had to do this 4 days on his 'own'. Very nice of him to recognize what people like me, without partner, big budget, and nannies plus a part-time out of house job, go through every day with our kid(s), thank you Derik for the shout-out!
Being a single parent is tough. I really don't wish it on anyone. Been there done that. However, looking at your child gives the strength and motivation that is needed. Get those tubes for Jack's ears. Helped my little one so much!!
Derik, YOU ARE A TROOPER!!! You did a GREAT JOB with the kids! 😊 Good on you for supporting Sarah & Lo's trip to NYC, in turn having a deeper appreciation & understanding on what it's like for single parents. It's not easy!

I love that they don’t pretend they’re better than everyone else by professing to only feed their kids health food stuff like that! They’re just REAL and honest and even when things are tough, they have amazing attitudes about things AND the BEST group of friends to support them! When Sunny smiled while laying on the couch at Tanner’s house, she looked soo much like Jack! It’s the first time I’ve personally seen such a strong resemblance! Bless your heart, you were def dealt a rough hand those 4 days but you handled it like a seasoned father and it reflects on how happy your kiddos are! ❤
Adoring the filming of a day in a life of Dad-doing-it-alone! That was awesome! ALL moms feeling this! You did an amazing job Derik! And hoping little Jack's ear is better soon with an ENT appointment.
This made me respect him so much more. It just seems to me like she was always being the person who held the family together. Without much appreciation of all that she was doing. To see him try in order to give her a break was so beautiful! That is love!
Sarah is an amazing mother who works so hard for her family and I agree it seems Derik gets most of the praise. When she was pregnant I thought she needed a break bc of the stress, plus Derik can act like a child sometimes(no hate!) and I could see "the look" on her face. Even though she left for work I'm glad she got to have time to cross things off her wish list. @@ColleenBenedictmissvoodoo Derik needed a lot of people to help him, the nanny to take care of Sunny and clean up, his brother to pick him up after he irresponsibly left his bike unlocked, and everyone to clean the house. Didn't he call Jack "needy"? 🤔 Glad his brother told him to start cleaning up! No hate, but he's gotta mature/grow up!
Oh man, this makes me feel for you. When my twins were under 3 and I had no help (no nanny, no fam, and hubby worked over full time) I thought I would die from sleep deprivation. It was awful. The stress makes every failure or hardship so much worse. If anything, it makes it so much more evident that a true loving partnership and a village of supportive people make parenting joyfully possible. No one can be all things all the time.
Your doing an awesome job and being in pain too! I did it basically alone with two boys with spinal cord injuries.. honestly it was really hard in the beginning but I got the hang of it and it was easier after that. The best part of my life!! ❤️Now my boys are teenagers and I miss them being little. I can give you a few tips - First make sure that they are always busy doing something individually !! if you are constantly making sure that they are clean ,fed and they’ve gotten a nap, everything is easier because they are happy! Make sure they nap at the same time and they get on the same schedule with everything. Life is very easy when they’re on a routine and when they sleep -you sleep ,when they nap -you nap when they eat -you eat ,you need to be on the exact same schedule because if you don’t life is a mess and it’s very chaotic …. The last thing you want is two tired ,hungry screaming kids because they actually cry in sync, and that can be very very stressful so do these little tricks and it’s really easy you can do anything you want with them as long as they have the same schedule and they need to be home and taking a nap at the same time every day and if you do that, it’s really a piece of cake I mean obviously they’re gonna have crying spells because that’s what happens but after the first time it just gets easier and easier! Your doing a really great job 👏🏻
I wish I could have seen Sarah’s reaction to all of the strange & unfortunate events that took place while she was gone! Derik, you did a great job! Kids are such wonderful little blessings but also a LOTTTT to deal with. 👏👏 I am always grateful for the help & support I have for my daughter and always amazed by the single parents out there! 💪

You are such a great dad. Your contribution and willingness to watch the kids (appreciating single parents). Love kids, and understanding always someone is sick, someone has to see a doctor, someone has something going on. It just goes on and on. They need ya, and to always be there for them.
Derek you are such an incredible dad and love you have for your family is so apparent. Your kids are never going to question whether they are loved as they get older. Make sure you get those knees taken care of as soon as you have more help again. Take care of you too! Great job dad. Also, good for you Sarah getting some mom time to do the things you love and have some fun with friends. Moms need breathers to reset and I love that you guys give each other time to be an individual! With the rate you guys are having things stolen, maybe consider putting apple AirTags on them in a hidden place so you can track them when stolen.

Hello, I have been watching your channel for a while. I just wanted to share my experience with also having multiple ear infections like Jack and hope maybe it could help yourself and others here who might be going through the same. First off, I am very happy that his doctor referred him to an ENT specialist and didnt go straight to placing tubes as this was my experience growing up and turned out that it didnt help at all and made it worse for me in my situation. I've had so many operations/major surgeries and use to consider my children hospital a second home. When I was born, I had (still have) HORRIBLE eustachian tubes that would not drain the fluid from my ears. I could not hear for the first 3-4 years of my life and was severely delayed (couldn't talk). Finally when my parents found someone that figured out what was up, I had so many operations (too many to count) for placing tubes in my ears. Right ear was fine after the first operations but my left was causing a ton of issues. Because of this, I started getting really bad migraines that I would come up on a weekly basis. I was finally referred to or transferred over to an ENT specialist at a children's hospital and turned out, after years of having infections after infections, I had an extremely rare cyst/tumour called cholesteatoma growing in my left ear and it was massive. Definitely DO NOT think Jack has this at all, but having reoccurring infections can be tough on an ear and can sometimes leave scarring. Young children are more prone to infections in their tiny ears because their eustachian tubes are very small which makes it hard for fluid to drain out of the ear (my eldest sister was the same and did not have the same outcome as myself and has perfect hearing). As Jack gets older it will get better! I know how frustrating it can be and to see your own children go through the pain of having an ear infection....they are NOT fun at all. I hope his appointment goes well! Edit* Sorry! I wanted to add! Placing tubes in the ears is not bad and has helped many many kids! I'm just happy he is seeing a specialist who will know what they are doing. Just my personal experience with it didn't have the greatest outcome. I am happy and can hear from my right ear and have a bonebridge implant for my left ear. :)
Good job Derick for taking good care of your two small children while mom is away. And still having a positive attitude even with a stolen bike. They are costly things to be stolen two in a row. Stay blessed.
Such a great video, I loved this! As a SAHM to twins and a 5 year old sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the choas. Videos like this remind that parenthood is quite chaotic for most people and makes me feel far less alone! But you survived it, and did so well with everything you were up against, well done!!
Derek, you are the best role model for young Dads. Hell, for all Dads! You endured so much those 4 days, but made it look easy 👍💯🥰 So glad to see Sarah getting some ME time. 😊
You guys are the cutest family ever . You did a great job with the babies while mama got some girl time :) such a great dad and mom to let each other have special time :)
I’m sorry for the hell that people have been putting you all through with the stealing and everything. But, I just want to say you all are very good people. I have been subscribed since Jack was born and you all are a very sweet family and I don’t understand why this is happening but God will help you all through everything ❤ both kids are soooo adorable and as long as your family is together and healthy that’s the main thing 😊
Derik - don’t sell yourself short! You did an amazing job of taking care of both kids by yourself, especially with a bad knee. As for the bike, you are keeping it in perspective. Someone stole the bike and Jack’s hat, they didn’t steal Jack and that is what matters. I think all this bad stuff that is happening to you is God’s way of helping solidify your decision to move back to the mainland. It’s not fun, but you will come out the other side, better for these experiences. Edit: Forgot to mention, I hope we get a video of Sarah and Lo’s NY trip. And Sunny if such a beautiful baby. She looks like a porcelain babydoll.
You did awesome with the kids. Even though you were tested many ways you made it . Glad Sarah and Lauren had a safe trip. Prayers Jacks ears get better ❤️
I’m so sorry about all the bad stuff that’s happened, so insane! You guys are overdue for some good things to happen. And yes, no matter how bad things get, your kids will always make it better ❤️ always. They somehow bring you back to what is important. Sending love, hugs, good positive vibes and prayers for a better tomorrow ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You have a great attitude though and I wish more had the same. Your family is beautiful and are so fun to watch on your channel. Oh and it looks like you had a fun trip to New York. What a wonderful experience 😊 Glad everyone made it back safe and sound. Sending prayers to all. ☺️❤️🙏🏻

Now they are adults but I have a granddaughter that I get to be a cool and with it grandma. Be safe and so very sorry about your bike. Loving the ending of everyone trying to get the house cleaned up. Guys and organized pillows are not easy but love it. Welcome home mom.....you've been missed
You two are both such great parents! That's awful about your bike being stolen. You did a great job caring for those babies and I'm sure you appreciate your wife even more now 💜
Just think to yourself that the toughest times make the greatest stories when your older. Only the family matters, everything else is in between. Lotsa love x
I love how Jack said “pepawoni” when Derik asked him what flavor pizza he wanted. 😂 Edit: And when Jack said “I’m jumping so high dada!” after he woke up was so cute 🥰
Great video, i love watching you guys, so sweet and inspiring! The single mum/dad...doable... part was really important. Because as a single parent you are not in for some days and then you can take a timeout. Its day after day, week after week, year after year - and literally everything is your responsibility, not just watching the kids. It is setting up the household and mantaining it, its everyday the mum&the dad tasks(whatever this be), shopping, washing, cleaning, cooking, being a great parent, taking care of oneself, earning money... So, if there is a single parent near you, please reach out and offer some support. They do it, they manage it, they give their all. And we need to be there for them. Not everybody has a big loving family in the back, so let's be this much needed support.

Yes I know it amazes me you see in the 19 60's and 70's it was not like that at all at least not in my neck of the wood's. I'm so happy that dad's are more and more being actively involved with raising their kid's. You see mom's raised kid's and dad's worked. ❤
Ummm he's getting paid too by RUclips
First video in a while where they don’t pick on Sunny for not being blonde. Wow does this obnoxious family do anything besides whine and complain?
Most families with a single parent struggle to make ends meet. His wife chose to go to a “influencer event” and is pretending that’s work. And they have a nanny 🙄
No wonder Jack is such a horribly behaved and nasty kid. Absolutely no manners, hits other kids, and is still wearing diapers at nearly three.
@@Mrcandles312 please don't watch them anymore it makes you whiny and it's ugly . You need to watch things that are in your wheel house sarcastic and depressing things then you will be satisfied that things are as you see the wotld.
Your story made my cry I can't a magen 😥 God bless you and your family
Parents need to know.
i LOVE the realness - no staged home, just a messy reality full of love :-)
I love this family!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Blessings to the parents that raised you Derik! You did an incredible job!!
2nd bike stolen and their car....
@@carolynyates141 oh I didn't know it was the 2nd bike that was stolen. Dang.
The way Sunny woke up as Sarah wished eventhough when Sarah gave her a light kiss shows how pure a mother's love is
and it's incredible to see how children feel the love of mum and dad like an instinct!
She felt her Mommas kiss❤Awwwwwwwwwww
Derek is such an amazing, kind, patient father. What a great job!
Keyboard warriors piss me off
@@bethfordham3085precisely. I am glad the bike was seized because of an open opportunity, not force and bloodshed.
❤❤❤AMEN IN JESUS NAME
I'm a new dad Derik and watching you handle Sunny and Jack and keep calm is great. Keep it up brother! You've got this.
Jack paddling out then standing on his board cutest thing ever!
Derik - YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!! Most dads wouldn't even try what you're doing! I'm more proud of you than I can say! Satan threw it ALL at you and you came through with shining stars!!! 🌟 -Diana ❤️
It doesn’t make him a good dad for doing what he’s supposed to do. It makes other dads look bad for not doing it.
I just don’t understand the decision to leave a newborn…

I love how Derrick you are a great support to Sarah. You set a very good example 👏
So amazed by how you both support each other, so no one has to sacrifice your work, friends but still taking great care of your kiddos
Can we just add that he vlogged on top of the 2 kids ! That adds a whole other layer to the stress! 😮 good job !! Laughed and prayed a lot for you 😂
Jack is so cute he’s amazing especially with the board catching his waves 🌊
Even with the help of the nanny, the friends, the restaurants and no financial problems, i still felt kinda sorry for Derik. Especially with all the stolen vehicles and the very smalll baby. And he only had to do this 4 days on his 'own'. Very nice of him to recognize what people like me, without partner, big budget, and nannies plus a part-time out of house job, go through every day with our kid(s), thank you Derik for the shout-out!
My heart goes out to you Derek, you did such an amazing job. All parents can understand how you felt, but the fact that you vlogged it too… 10/10
Being a single parent is tough. I really don't wish it on anyone. Been there done that. However, looking at your child gives the strength and motivation that is needed.
Get those tubes for Jack's ears. Helped my little one so much!!
You are great
Derik, YOU ARE A TROOPER!!! You did a GREAT JOB with the kids! 😊 Good on you for supporting Sarah & Lo's trip to NYC, in turn having a deeper appreciation & understanding on what it's like for single parents. It's not easy!
You live your life on the internet and so far you are all physically safe. Please consider all of the available insurances, personal and other loss and safety prevention resources available to you and your family. Adulting is hard, but your life and the lives of your family are paramount.
When you move please keep yourselves protected and not show where you live. You are all too precious. ❤
I hope they see this!
Maybe they shouldn’t have exploited themselves and their children over several sm platforms.😮

@@iamezekiel1970 oh so basically they deserve to be robbed? Really?
So sorry Derik that your bike was stolen. You did a great job taking care of the kids for 4 days as a single dad. It's great that friends came to help clean up the house before Sarah came home.

I can’t believe this is a real family!!! They’re all SO positive and loving and super REAL! I love that they don’t pretend they’re better than everyone else by professing to only feed their kids health food stuff like that! They’re just REAL and honest and even when things are tough, they have amazing attitudes about things AND the BEST group of friends to support them! As a new mom, I felt this struggle on an emotional level. Love to you guys ❤
I love your channel!!! Derek you were a rock star Dad. You did an unbelievable job in the face of adversity!!!
This made me respect him so
much more. It just seems to me like she was always being the person who
held the family together.
@@joa843 We all need help sometimes.
When jack and ozzy play it is so cute. They both are the sweetest things
Your doing an awesome job and being in pain too! I did it basically alone with two boys with spinal cord injuries.. honestly it was really hard in the beginning but I got the hang of it and it was easier after that. The best part of my life!! ❤️Now my boys are teenagers and I miss them being little.
I can give you a few tips -
First make sure that they are always busy doing something individually !! if you are constantly making sure that they are clean ,fed and they’ve gotten a nap, everything is easier because they are happy!

Again??!?!! I'm so sorry man, hope it all gets better soon ♥️

Love when we get to see Matt and Abby too! So much fun!!
So brave to wing it alone with those littles. Kudos to you Dad! Sarah Hope you enjoyed Phantom!
I don't agree with mama leaving a newborn but you can see that all over RUclips
I just love how genuinely kind you guys are ❤
You guys are the cutest family ever .

Watching those guys frantically trying to get the house together was cracking me up 🤣
Your family is absolutely the best! I love how much you guys love one another, it truly shows ❤
Derik - don’t sell yourself short!
