Man o man! I saw him at central park the year before in 1979. Dr pepper music festival at wollman rink. Also had the pleasure to see the one and only muddy waters with special guest johnny winter at my father's place in March of 1979. Holy crap what a show! Life changing. I know everyone on this thread knows what great music is all about. If you want to hear one hell of a blues show just put in muddy waters live at my father's place. It was recorded live by wlir at the time. I'm not a big technology guy but bless RUclips and the one's who put them out for having these legend shows come to light. This music saves your soul man! People have no fucking clue what garbage they are listening to today. Yes I have every ticket stub lol. Winter cost $4.50! Can you believe that? To see that kind of talent. Priceless.... rock on 🤘

Вот же нереально крутой мужик был! Мелодизм, красота партий гитары запредельная (дело не только в скорости), очень пробирающий вокал, эмоциональный и честный, артистизм и энергия! Я думаю, он лучший на стыке жанров блюза и рока был.

I was there that day. Got there early so I was close to the stage. The best live guitar performance I have ever witnessed and I've seen many of the greats. I paid 5 bucks for my ticket.

Yeah he aged like a fine wine. I saw him mostly in the 80’s and he just kept better. Even his last shows with Paul Nelson were great, but nothing beats a young Johnny. No Stevie without Johnny!!!

If you want to experience Johnny live just take this show and turn it up as loud as you possibly can and drink as much whisky you can Particularly Highway 61 and enjoy!!!

Volume was his effect alittle sustain n chorus now n then but Johnny played loud without a lot of gizmos No wah or fuzz no Hendrix mode he like Stevie Ray was a blues oriented guitarist slide bar bottleneck player😅
Slide bar? Stevie Ray didn't play slide...too busy aping Jimi or lifting Albert King solos. SRV used all the same effects as Hendrix to imitate him; fuzz face, wah-wah, overdrive...
