    Old and broken, really
I am 73, been listening to music since 1956, when I saw Elvis on TV. I have worked in the music business. I am a blues historian. I have seen Johnny music times, beginning in the 70s with Rick Derringer. His Progressive Blues Experiment album in 1968 is one of the best slide albums of all time. He could play and sing like No one else. Everybody gets old, but I would have paid to see Johnny that night. Have some respect dude. Why isn't Johnny, Link Ray, and Dick Dale in the hall of lame. I KNOW ITS KIND OF HARD TO TELL. BUT I AM STILL ALIVE AND WELL. PEACE BEEFHEART

Just as well cos JW is all over the place! I saw him on this tour in the UK and it was really sad to see how much he had deteriorated and I’m sure that later on this tour he passed away - RIP Johnny Winter.

I went to see Johnny in 1982 at The Playpen, Wildwood Crest,N.J. on a weeknight, seats only show. The place was half empty and I danced on top of my seat the entire set all alone. At the end of the night a beautiful young Lady walked up to me and handed me keys to her sports car and asked me to take her back to her hotel. I was so happy to serve her.

Paul Nelson did a great job there! His guitar playing is very precise and his technical skills are good enough being the leader of his own band. I would play second guitar/rhythm guitar in it if he would ask me ;P ;P

Saw Eric Sardinas open for Steve Vai in Westbury, NY back in 2005. My niece was learning guitar at the time. Eric was hanging outside the venue and I asked him to sign his CD with encouraging words for my niece. He gladly obliged with a big smile. Totally chill guy. I hope he's doing well. Rave on Eric!!!

my only complaint is Johnny isn't playin his reverse neck 24.75" scale Firebird. Nothin like that tone and the same with his Fender 12 string, oh yea! Paul Nelson - spot on. Its cool these dudes would help Johnny close out his career. Rock on Johnny

Johnny was just a shell of his former self here. Anybody who loved him and his place in blues guitar history can at least be honest about it. I saw Johnny many times over the years starting in the mid-1970's, and he played well until about 1998-1999, when I noticed he had several bad shows in a row. He was not on his game but still played reasonably well. The following year he couldn't stand up; had to be escorted to a chair like here. And then he played...like a drunken amateur. I thought it was a joke...but it wasn't. He could not play. Something happened, and whatever it might have been was never revealed. I suspect he might have had a stroke, but whatever it was, it crippled his playing. He was never remotely the same. Never went to see him again because I didn't want to see him like that ever again. Johnny recovered some of his playing ability, but he was only a shadow of himself for the rest of his days. I'm very thankful I saw him so many times when he was in good form, but this video displays how much he suffered - and how much his fans loved him. I for one could not bear to watch...

Johnny was legally blind due to health issues by this time in his career. Notice he never looks at the fingerboard? Excellent blues voice and better licks than most of his younger contemporaries I say. His original power trio was the model for the Jimmy Hendrix Experience too. I could go on but the fact is there’s few who had a career like this guy for as long and keeping it real. He was one of the legit founders of the electric blues and in my opinion still one of the greats in his latter years.

This is sad, should have put down his guitar years before. Rescued by great musicians. Saw him in Oslo, it was tragic, he did not wake up and played on beat before the last couple of tunes. He was so far out that day. Bad habits cost money and it needs to be earned some how but this is just tragic...

    • @paulzendo6079

It's tragic that Johnny passed away 4 years later . Sometimes musicians , too, have a bad day. He released so many masterpieces that every real Blues Fan should fall on his knees and thank him for that .. even when he wasn't playin' every song perfectly , in his older days live on stage.
