      @@papapalps2415 My point is that a ship with that is very comparable, literally a quarter the size, can be operated with an 1/8th the crew. To the point even as is stated in the video that zero command was incapable of crewing their star dreadnoughts, signifying an extreme lack of automation, versus other, older ships. See my point yet?
      Also, yes, scale is indeed comical in star wars. The GAR was.... not even comically, obscenely or absurdly but some combination of all 3 combined, undersized for the conflict and enemy they faced. That doesn't excuse other obvious failures in scaling when on other occasions scaling is properly achieved.

    As impractical as ships like these are, you can't deny they're cool (and Rule of Cool is what half the tech in SW operates on).
    I've come up with my own class of Super Star Destroyer for my Empire of the Hand AU:
    Renaissance-class Super Star Destroyer (about 12 km long)
    Built: Kuat Drive Yard’s Spiral Shipyards, Nirauan system. Officially finished construction in 21 ABY, but Admiral Parck would occasionally make use of its incomplete state before then.
    The Renaissance class is a shorter, wider, heavier-set, ship than the more familiar Executor-class SSDs from the old Galactic Empire, taking several design features from the prototype Eclipse class, including integrated interdiction technology, a complement of over 400 TIE Defender fighters, and a superlaser capable of cracking a planetary crust (or a Yuuzhan Vong world ship). Like other Empire of the Hand designs, the Renaissance-class’ bridge is not located in an exposed tower, but rather deep inside the ship, with cameras and a powerful sensor suite compensating for the lack of viewports. Borrowing from Mon Calamari designs, the Renaissance-class also utilizes overlapping shield technology. As well as standard Imperial weaponry like turbolasers, tractor beams and ion cannons, the Renaissance -class also utilizes Chiss Ascendency weaponry such as Plasma ball launchers and breacher missiles.
    The main difference from the earlier class (and, the "selling point" that convinced then-Grand Moff Xelarra to sign off on its creation) is the ability of the Renaissance-class to carry up to five Imperial or Spiral- class Star Destroyers on the hull itself, with the smaller (but still capital sized) ships docking on five triangular recesses on the main hull, 3 on top of the superstructure, two below. The Renaissance-class can thus act as a mobile repair station as well as the command ship. Its main hanger bay can internally carry ships up to 300 m in length (i.e. the size of an Arquitens-class light cruiser or an Explorer-class research/scout vessel).
    The Renaissance also has integrated Interdictor technology, and is equipped with several cloaking devices (necessary because of the ship’s size). These two systems cannot normally be used at the same time, though Grand Admiral Thrawn remembers a few tricks learned earlier in his career to get around this limitation. As cloaking devices are double-blind - they protect a ship from detection, but said ship also cannot see outside of it when activated through conventional means, the cloak is most effectively used with the cooperation of an Imperial Knight, who can use the Force to sense outside the cloak. However, with proper timing and practice the cloaks can be used without the assistance of Force-users.
    As the Empire of the Hand did not sign the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty, they are not prohibited from using cloaking devices.
    Known vessels in the class:
    SSD Renaissance
    CO: Fleet Admiral Voss Parck (19-28 ABY), Grand Admiral Thrawn (28 ABY +)XO: Commodore Eli Vanto (28 ABY+)
    Starfighter commander: Colonel Jagged Fel (28 ABY +)
    Flagship of the Navy of the Hand. Displays the same Paccosh signil as the ISD Chimaera on its hull.
    Commissioned by Fleet Admiral Parck, in anticipation of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s rumoured return in 19 ABY. Thrawn (actually his clone, known as ‘Raw’nuru’ until he was ready to retake the mantle of Grand Admiral) did not take command until the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, after the Evacuation of Lysatra.

      Their overall failure is partially the same as to why the Imperial class failed. Imperial starfighter doctrine was terrible considering only about 10% of pilots actually passed the training. The TIE/ln fighter is ok but its shortcomings fail it overall.

    • @NeSeeger
      @NeSeeger Год назад

      @@papapalps2415 Imperial-classes (both 1 and 2) failed to win the war for the Empire. This was mostly due to naval doctrine. The lack of proper fighter support left the large vessels vulnerable.
      My opinion is based off of what we are shown over the games, books, comics, shows, and movies. However large, numerous, or deadly these ships were they lost. Because they, like most of the Imperial military, are shown to be VERY incompetent. Around a dozen are destroyed in the rebels series alone costing over 37K ship personnel plus complement which accounts for around 47K.
      TLDR: Yes they, ISD1 and ISD2, were wildly produced and were very powerful, but they are more often then not shown to be not very successful in what they were designed to do, and a big part of that failure is their starfighter complement.

It needs to look and be impressive, but it can't be so powerful that the rebels have no chance." Stuff like Iron ist VS SOlo Command. Even before Iron Fist was 19km long, it shoulda been much nastier for the rebels.
      Then again, X-Wing novels are basically the equivalent of a WW2 based 60s Saturday Morning Cartoon and tehy really shill the rebel fighters. IN ANH, and even RotJ, the TIEs are basically on par with the rebel fighters... Meanwhile everywhere else: "KD RATIO 1:500!!!" and such.
      The issue aren't the designs. The issues are the writers who used, and still use, a very shallow approach of "Emprie gets this big thing, so that the Rebels can destroy it."

      @therosen9923 6 дней назад

      @@undertakernumberone1 Yeah that's pretty bang on really. The empire would of quickly added some seriously capable anti-starfighter systems to combat that on almost every ship. There are other ways the rebels could of won (Cultural, propaganda, cyber warfare (Maybe)). Also its hilarious how starfighter weapons can seriously damage a capital ship, bit like a p47 thunderbolt strafing the yamato pre-damage, with 50 cals and sinking it 2 minutes afterwards with only said weapons, just mental really.
      Not only that, when you see something big on screen in star wars that's on the enemy side, you know its useless and will be blown up before the episode ends. At least show it dominating in some aspects or episodes if you are going to end it so early.

    honestly, the main issue regarding the "usefulness" of Dreadnoughts, or basically ANYTHING Imperial is simply that they are the designated villain. As such, their stuff exists for our heroes to be destroyed, or captured, or captured and destroyed. TIEs in the OT are shown to be not that much worse than X-Wings, yet supplimentary material makes htem wet paper. THe bigger the weapon, the better for the heroes that destroy it. If the Empire then has something that isn't either cheap throaway stuff or super expensive super weaponry, and/or would hard counter Rebels, like the Lancer, it's something that gets excused away.
    Or the effectiveness of Stomtroopers. Tantive IV gets overrun in short order. Echo base falls...
    Rebels are the good guys, Empire is the villains. If we'd move it to earth and the Empire was using Fletcher class destroyers, they would still find a way to make them be "a waste of ressources" or some such.
    Adding to that thanks to the size history, there was stuff like "Iron Fist VS Solo Command", which even in the 8km days shoulda been weighted in Iron Fist's favour.
    The issue isn't the ships, a lot of the time, but "Rebels are the good guys and gotta win. Their stuff needs to be either "better", or at least more efficient."

Most of the largest warships in history were sunk after having little to no effect in battles in their respective theater or war (Bismark, Tirpitz, Yamato, Arizona, Oklahoma to name a few). It also reminds me of one of Murphy's combat laws, don't be conspicuous because it draws enemy fire.

    The merits of mahanism in a monopolar world are perhaps somewhat questionable, but its not like the Uas suddenly decommisionaed its CABGs at the end of the cold war.
    Star dreadnoughts are the capital ships of SW and are the ultimate tools of sea (well, space) control. Their importance and power is sufficient as evidenced by the waelords era, to single handedly turn the outcomes of entire campigns. You may be able to build tgojsands of snubfighters for the cost of a single executor, but they will not win you a campaign to conquer a major core world. A star dreadnought might.

    • @TheHazelnoot
      @TheHazelnoot 3 месяца назад

      I don't know that I agree with that assessment. On Earth, carriers are the primary tool of force projection not because they in themselves are effective frontline warships, but because the greatest tool of modern war is either: a blistering array of intercontinental missiles, or fighter jets. Carriers can carry both, and planes don't have the ability to reasonably fly across the entire world without *some* kind of base, or they'd be too weighed down by fuel.
      But in Star Wars, you could reasonably build a dozen thousand fighters with hyperdrives, pop in unannounced and drop a hundred thousand proton torpedoes on an SSD (or god forbid, a *planetary target,* imagine what that would do to your well established defensive line) and then just... leave again.
      Even more, an Executor (assuming you are not a madman and are, in fact, a sensible admiral) can't feasibly indiscriminately bombard a planet, without risk of massive damage to the reason you're there in the first place, namely resources, both living and material. Fighters strike with precision ordnance, leaving less dead and more intact infrastructure.

    • @egoalter1276
      @egoalter1276 3 месяца назад

      @@TheHazelnoot In the real world carriers effectively outranged gun warships while maintaining theiir lethality, and thus replaced them. In SW fightercraft can not quickly and effectively destroy cpaital warships, only gradually degrade tham at close range, with great risk to themselves from escorting fighters and point defence fire.
      Two more points. star dreadnoughts themselves carry extensive complements of snubfighters for this aforementioned self escort, but could also be launched on strike missions.
      And also, carriersa sre not the premier surface combatants IRL either. Guided missile cruisers, guided missile submarines, and hunter killer submarines are. Carriers serve as fleet centerpieces due to their size and cost, but for that cost they are not an effective way of deploying anti shipping firepower.

      That comes from X-Wing: The Krytos Trap.
      As far as hiding it, the Empire literally razed a 100km area of the city, landed the ship on a massive repulsorlift platform, then rebuilt the city over it.
      It wasn't hiding so much as buried.
      It shot it's way out and killed millions, then punched a hole through a 2 layer planetary shield to get out.
      There's a section where Wedge was wondering if the Emperor was able to use the dark side to wipe everyone's memory of that to keep it secret, since the alternative is they simply killed all the witnesses.

    • @DIEGhostfish
      @DIEGhostfish Год назад

      @Ethan0433 Krytos Trap itself wasn't clear how it got there, just a selection of theories. And *technically* they lowered the shields before Isard had finished shooting her way out of the bottom one. The alternative waa her turning the guns on the city to force them to drop it.

    • @Ethan0433
      @Ethan0433 Год назад

      @@DIEGhostfish So yes, those are theories, but given I haven't found other info on it, I figured the book where it leaves was probably a decent source.
      And yes, it absolutely shot it's way out of the shields. Once it breached the lower shield, forward guns focused the upper ones while the mid-ship and rear ones kept the lower hole open.
      The ship then engages one of the Golan defense platforms, which manages to break the SSD's shields, and they jettison the lift cradle to block fire while they escape.

His goal was to convince the New Republic he had developed a new super hyper drive so that they had to spread forces out to defend several systems and when the attack came, he would overwhelm the defenses with his fleet. Can't help but notice that 99% of the Jedi/Rebellion/Republic/Rebels strategy was not to build up a proper military to engage the enemy, but send one or two people to deal with the enemy army/fleet/galactic invasion/superweapon and hope they manage to save them. This spans over centuries of galactic history and dozens of games/books/comics so it is something very appreciated by the public.
    Even worse, the Rule of Two has the Sith do the same (when they are not in power at least, but often even if they are) Still, the Sith are the ones who build armies/fleets/large ships and superweapons , which makes them the more rational ones in comparison with Jedi.
