The end of the Pius Dea, at the hands of the Bureau of Ships and Services. Turns out Mass Effect 1 was right, you really can't bludgeon your way through bureaucracy
To be a Chancellor of the Galactic Republic was a massive undertaking for any individuals, and with that comes abilities to take on that massive challenge. Some individuals are forgotten by the populace the moment step foot in their position, others are remembered as example both good and bad leaders, and others are so important they are remembered as legendary heroes who save the Galaxy by their actions.
I really love these kinds of videos on the prequel’s and the politics in Star Wars in general since I feel like it’s often overlooked and underappreciated by most Star Wars fans!
Part of me really wishes we got a deeper look into the Republic's politics following Saresh's appointment as Chancellor. SWTOR managed to create such a compelling story for the politics of the Sith Empire, and the focus they gave its leadership (Darth Marr in particular) was a highlight, but I think it was a huge missed opportunity to not try and do the same with the Republic and even the Jedi itself.
It's the wealth of lore that this series has that really is a key reason I love it so much. It really feels like a world the grew and evolved and changed with countless stories to potentially explore.
Took me forever to finally get through this even though I watched like 5 other half hour videos today lol... I liked this content wise though...I like longer videos that cover lots of content
Are you gonna do the same for the canon Chancellors? Because it'd be interesting to see the transition from the duel chancellorship to the single Supreme Chancellorship they have going on there.
I don't think there's many known beyond Valorum, Palpatine and Lina Soh. We know that there will be the dual chancellors in THR phase 2 but that's about it.
@@CoreysDatapad There are a few others mentioned in Dooku Jedi Lost and Master and Apprentice. But ya you're largely right for now. Could make for a neat short though.
Taking the cathedral ships and just letting them go in hyperspace with their crews?!! Holy shit that’s not just brutal that’s just evil! Hyperspace is another dimension entirely, it’s basically the Star Wars version of the warp (though less hellish but still awful) so… yeah I think I’d rather take on any sith ever with only a combat knife instead thanks republic.
Hi Corey, love these videos breaking down the politics of the Republic. I'd like to ask however where you find information on cancelled Star Wars sourcebooks (you mention the History of the Old Republic one), since this is something I'm quite interested in myself. Thanks for the content!
We don't have any details on Chancellors during the Century of Darkness (7000-6900BBY)? The origin of the Dark Jedi sect that would name themselves after the native species of Korriban.
I do have a question; how did Palpatine win a Third Term? Chancellors, AFAIK, could serve for two terms, of four years each. Palpatine's first term started in 32 BBY, (or like January 31 BBY, if they mirror the US Presidents- though in that specific case, he probably served the end of Valorum's term, so started a few months early), so he should've been term limited in 24 BBY. Given that the Clone Wars hadn't started, and frankly, the Raxus Address or even the beginnings on the Separatist Crisis wouldn't be a big enough threat to overrule a Constitutional Amendment- and since we didn't see the Senate giving the Chancellor Emergency Powers (the Emergency Powers Act, I presume) until Jar-Jar did so in Episode II, which should've been two years after Palps was no longer Chancellor, something... doesn't add up. (And even then, that seems like a rather quick feat, given that one of the complaints was that bureaucracy gummed up the Republic Senate so that nothing could get done.)
@liamclarke91 My first player character was a Republic trooper and I hated her the moment she tried to let that 1 general loose. Esecially after everything I had to go through capturing the bastard in the first place I outright threatened to quit if she did so

The Pius Dea was correct humanity first!
I heard that Palpatine fella was a bit of a looker

We gonna ignore that the concept art for the first chancellor is Sean bean
No.

Most of it's just boring unimportance....some of it affects everything though
I would like a house of cards style show for Star Wars. It would be interesting to see how the republic works with so many cultures.

True!
Hmmmm that Palpatine fella looks interesting, what were those jedi doing with their lightsaber out at him?
Trying to kill him because he was it or something, I knew those jedi were up to no good
I think they were saluting him.
They were trying to overthrow our glorious democracy and infest it with their icky Jediness. They got what they deserved.

Nice detail that Palpatine's first name only exists in Disney Canon, not in Legends
Sheev moment

@@Kolonol1 rude
@@kR-qj7rw how is that rude? Disney wars sucks so instead of straight up saying that I said no thank you...
It’s always funny to me how Corey glosses over major characters like they aren’t some of the most important people in Star Wars
What I would find interesting is how a chancellor's government/ cabinet looked like, if there is any interesting informstion on that
"fan-favorite novel Planet of Twilight" lol❤
Yeah, skippable though. Same for Jedi Prince and The Crystal Star.

The Bureau of Ships and Services is the IRS of Star Wars.
Love your stuff. Best star wars lore channel.

Yeah, only notable thing about that Palpateen guy was that he was the last chancellor.
It is possible that before term limits, instead of terms - like American Presidents, the Chancellor was retained until a vote of no confidence.
I've been looking forward to this
Thanks for making this video! I too find topics like this very interesting.

Ayup Corey! Great vid
A chancellor had a representation in a cookie promotion? How did they get So specific with this one?
First chancellor is definitely called gulp shito
What about Johnathan Bac who was deemed the first chancellor

16:45 - xd
This palpatine guy sounds a lot like that some luke skywalker kid
12:50 SHE SUUUUUUCCKS
Saresh: I won't apologize!
Lana: We are WELL beyond apologies...
And then every PC killed her.

Im sorry, who murdered Sidrona? I think you mispronounced that name.
🤣 Jeez…..
One of the worst jobs in Star Wars as a whole, even if you're really good at it.
This guy doesn't know how to say names at all.
