Sometimes I feel aimless but then I remember I happened to exist at the same time as Luke's channel; thank you for reigniting a lost hobby man!
This video shows exactly why Luke's APS is such a great channel: not only is it showing people a technique they've requested information on but it simultaneously shows how to get the most out of a different technique, plus there are about 5 money saving tips thrown in. Glad I found this channel!
great tutorial, the snapping and twisting of the armatures may look like an easy idea but it is a game changer, you always explain nice simple and effective, your videos are short cause you immediately get to the nitty gritty, love them, thank you
Great video and fantastic trees, especially the Sea Foam ones. One thing that would help me as a total beginner is a list of the products needed and where you might get them. Some if I heard right, Sea Foam and rubberised horse hair I have never heard of before. Others I am aware of but not really sure which products to get - such as the foam flock, and the latex. Having watched the video I feel that I could have a go at making trees if I had all the components laid out in front of me. But as it stands I’m a bit overwhelmed, not really sure what I need or where to get it from. I am also intrigued by the £1 per tree - that is very attractive, but I gather that some of the products are going to be expensive to get together so I imagine it is something like £50 but you can make 50 trees.
You can make your own flock by shredding up a car washing sponge and mixing it in with watered down craft paint
I was really excited that you were making this tutorial because I've been experimenting with trees over the past week so it's great seeing a new perspective. I think when it comes to making trees you really get out what you put in and I think that's what your tutorial shows this best.
Fantastic, you do a lot of beautiful work. I think this is great standard for quick and easy trees because it shows it's the care and finesse you add that makes a difference. You could use the exact same materials and armatures and without the attention to detail that you add it'd look totally different. Things like ripping up the horse hair and snipping off half the branches and angling them down, re-barking them, cutting into the horse hair so it doesn't wrap around. These are all these things I personally didn't consider, at least not consciously and I think they all really add up.
Please make more videos Miscast. You introduced me to the hobby and you remain my favorite creator within this little world.
Just started the miniature hobby in the states and I find your videos so helpful! You deserve more subs and views. Keep up the great work mate!
Figure 1: The... Larch.
Seriously though - fantastic work!
Great looking trees sir. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
Just subbed you mate. This is the first video I've watched of yours and I got to say it is one of the best tree tutorials I've seen yet 👌🏻
I recently grabbed the metal pine tree armatures from Woodland Scenics, they are really nice as well.
you have some of the best crafts, Really good stuff, this guy should get more views
I love these trees! Thank you so much for such a great tutorial.
This is probably the fastest way to make the best looking trees I've found so far.
Thanks for this awesome tutorial! I am finally getting around to making some trees like these. Are you planing on filming a tutorial for how to make forest bases for these trees using your products? I'd love to learn how your new techniques and products have affected your way of builing whole forests!
The sea foam approach works best, i tend to use Lukes APS three colours of fine foam to give depth from dark to light.
All of these insane videos keep blowing my mind.
Nice work, very effect technique that produced fairly realistic trees that are perfect for just about any diorama.
Came due to the recent news. Glad to have discovered you
They came out great. Excellent vid thanks
clearly you've learned a ton since your first tree video, bravo.
Nice video. Thank you for showing what a little diligence can do. With those pre pandemic prices. 😁
Well I know this has been out there for a while, but till now I've not needed a really good tree, however for an upcoming game I need a cherry blossom and using this as method I have something really fantastic. Thanks for the know-how
Thank you for the very helpful video. I just started making trees and they are turning out great, thanks to you! Quick question. You mention dippinhg them in latex rubber for added durability. Would you dip them before or after flocking?
Fantastic looking trees.
Great video. Very informative. My layout could use more trees and I'm definitely going to give your method a go. Thanks!
Great Video Luke. Thanks.
Great video, I actually did buy a box of sea foam and cost me £25. I tried to stick it to real twigs, but it just didn't work. I never knew about Armatures, so this is great and have now ordered some.
You mentioned dipping the seafoam tree in latex rubber to strengthen it. I'm thinking to do this with my newly made seafoam trees before flocking them. Any advice on how to dip them in the latex rubber?
the rubberized horsehair method would probably make great hedges, wild undergrowth or bocage
When buying sea foam trees or sprigs, how do you pick the size when there are small, medium, and large options?
As usual , great video
Looked great! Thanks.
⭐️ excellent ! Really helpful 😎 ⭐️ thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍
Thank you good video and helpful tips.
That seafoam sprig looks great!
Great video, thanks for sharing
Your trees look amazing, Luke. I know you're based in the UK, but do you know any American options for the rubberized latex? I've had difficulty finding anything that resembles what you've shown on your videos.
Great to see the comparison, both look good but there is defo a difference
Hello! The tree you made with seafoam if beautiful! Unfortunately, being in the US, I have never seen that product before. If it's a dried natural plant, is it not too delicate for wargaming? I imagine it would break if it fell over. Also, do you ship your line to the US?
Awesome work mate
start using nitrile gloves when you glue, if its you hands that have an allergic reaction. Any chemical you use for a long time can potiantially cause an reation, so better to have good gloves, than keep changing.
also, if its your lungs or anything respatory, go see a doctor, then get a good mask. its worth it.
Hi, just curious which superglue are you using these days? I've been getting massive allergic reactions that last for days afterwards as long as the model is in the same room. Using gorilla gel.
With the spray adhesive....do you need to wait for each application to dry before spraying on another layer? I’ve been having trouble with whiteness showing all over my trees after they are fully dry (when the adhesive is a “clear” adhesive).
Do you know if sea foam can be sent to New Zealand as we do have very tough agriculture laws for import.
Palm trees. I currently by plastic ones on Ebay from China because trying to make effective palm trees from scratch...a killer. Be interested (when you get any time) to see how you'd fare! ;-)
Love your videos and love your accent too 10:57 sounds like Rubberised Arse hair. LOL
I know it's an older video but would you use a pva/varnish mix on it to really harden it up? And also would that mean you don't *really* need to put the seafoam into latex?
Random question. Where do you get your sea foam from. Everywhere I have seen is rediculously expensive or is this normal?
BRO these are BEAUTIFUL!!! Trees I struggle with, if you where to make these to sell dude I would buy SO many!
I like the sea foam but
The rubberised hair looks like a good option for a bramble hedge.
do you switch to just some twigs on some trees? id love to see a thicker trunk more knarled tree,
10:50 rubberized arse hair? Interesting hobby resource 😂
Awesome tutorial mate +1 Sub
Thats what the man said :D Im sure hes joking its really seaweed
4:12 in the video, what are those branches called? I'm in the US, so I'm trying to find those online, and I'm not able to catch what he said there. Thanks!
Do you know how long it takes to pull a load of glued-on rubberised horsehair off 50 tree armatures? Bloody ages! Thanks Luke.
Thanks Luke .
Honestly the rubberized horsehair might not be the best for trees, but it seems like it would be really good for vines
I sort my 2 ps so that I get the magnetic ones. I use those for the bases. Then I put circles of 3M magnetic vinyl on the wood base so I can remove the trees when I need to.
Luke where do you get your sea foam from?
Is there a way to get larger quantities of your range in the States? I would like large bags of Compound and flocks. Cheers! Lovlovlov
What kind of plant is sea foam exactly? I try to buy this plant in Germany but I have no idea where.
Any chance that tree foliage will
Be available in your US store? Or can you recommend an equivalent?
Any alternative to the spray paint...can't see it anywhere for £1...more like £10 on eBay...or can they be airbrushed with something like Tamiya?
Great video as usual.
One thing on a production level though... Every time you lift your arms the white balance goes crazy. All of a sudden you turn into a dead smurf (your skin goes all blue-grey)... Lol... I've never noticed it on any of your other videos, but you might want to double check your camera settings.
Still, excellent info, and another job (mostly) well done.
Lukes Aps - Yeah, not worth going back. It's only the bits where you're talking directly to camera. I just wanted to make sure you knew so you didn't wind up with a half dozen videos looking that way. It's not pleasant to watch in a similar way that sitting in a room where the lights flicked on and off every 5 seconds or so would be unpleasant.
Nice one mate
Hi Luke where can I purchase sea foam from?
Flipping awesome I just got the pine trees he he he
Can I ask where you get the seafoam or if you sell it on your website? Struggling to find it in the UK.
@@GeekGamingScenics cheers dude.
nice job mate
This is great! Can you do various tree types? Like Ash, Birch, Cedar, Maple, Oak, Pine and Willow? Definatly not the list of tree types in Sherwood forest.
don't forget to save the spare branches for tusks, horns or tentacles on your miniatures.
how woul i go about if i want to create fruit trees?
Hi Luke, Great video. When will you re stock your flock/foliage @ GeekGaming site? Nearly everything is sold out :)
@@GeekGamingScenics Thanks Mate, In this excellent video the tree trucks shown at the end look different than the Woodland Scenics Pine armature version. How these different armatures or made/customised?
@@GeekGamingScenics well nearly all Tree Foliage Pine Needle coarse 500ml seem sold out :)
@@GeekGamingScenics Thanks Luke, keep the great work up U the man !!
Dip in what type of latex?
When you say, dunk the tree in to latex, do you mean something like Copydex?
Thanks, I just spotted that after posting my question :D
Are these trees ok for 28 mm figures
Where do you get that flock ?
Does the "sea foam" ("c-foam?") you're using have some other name? I can't seem to find it online. It looks like some sort of florists' dried plant material...
Greenstuffworld has it, it's just called seafoam. On amazon i found it by searching "seafoam tree".
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but some Wilkos in the UK do Pick'n'mix for small hardware items. You pay for the size of bag and can have as many washers and you can fit into it. I spent £2.99 on 425 25mm washers, making them 0.7p each!
For more info, I wrote a review here: convertingthemasses.blogspot.com/2017/03/quick-review-wilko-washers.html
can we buy these trees from you already made?
For you it's "Bang for the quid".
from cliffton nurseries to collect your own seed
i dont have access to yaht varnish. is there an american equivalent?
Aaaaaaaawesome.......but
what are you doing if you want to make a Jungle?
The rubberized horse hair looks like a Hawthorne just needs to be a shorter trunk.
So have you given up on sage brush.
Oh yeah yeah
"Rubberized arse hair." Hee hee.
I can't unhear it now😂😂
😂
Ok trees mastered ..... How about box girders ;)
i cant find the trees and seafoam for less than 30 pounds combined now! it blows my mind how greedy these places are
@@GeekGamingScenics Thanks il have a look
Hlo sir can you tell me the name of that dried plant plz
'Seafoam', aka Teloxis aristata.
My experience has been that spray adhesive is synonymous with zero durability. Especially as it pertains to a game piece. Then again, I live in a somewhat hotter climate than you do so maybe it's fine in Brittan?
ColonelSandersLite Brittan.
Start at 2:25
I'm actually looking at a butterfly bush??
Yacht Varnish?
Sean Bartholome ya i didn't know what he was saying either
My guess is that Yacht and Spar Varnish are (functionally, if not literally) the same thing. A high gloss, high durability varnish Honestly, considering how it's being used, I would imagine that most any spray varnish would work.
the cheap way way is grow your own
When you're in the US and try to find Rubberised Horsehair :(
Yeah I can’t find it either.
Google seems to help
The Queen will be after you lol
Lukes Aps well I'm not sure you've superglued her majesties face on a few of those ;)
Will she come after him personally? Perhaps more importantly, do actual monarchs get bonuses in KoW?
Washer big bag from wilkco £2.99
This is a brilliant tip, they are 1 inch washers. you can cram a hell of a lot in the bags as well. £1.99 bags and £2.99 bags. its kind off a pick a mix as well, smaller washers and other bits and bobs
Looking into this a bit, I'm a little jealous. Your British 2p is 7.12 grams and 25.9mm. In US coinage, our nickle is smaller and lighter, dimes are way smaller, quarters are almost as big but thinner and lighter. The only really comparable coin we have is a full dollar.
I know in England we can exchange money at our local post office / bank for American money. Can't you do the same for British money and get yourself some 2p's?
If you live in a place that British people like to visit, and the bank just happens to have them, then sure. It's not particularly practical for every one of our several thousand banks to have large stacks of each of the 180 different currencies being circulated around the globe though. In practical terms, the vast majority of trans-atlantic tourists visit one of two places - New York and California (that's really a shame). The vast majority of my countrymen, myself included, don't live in either of those two places though.
whell looiks goosd to me its a thing with me i gess just donr like uesing coins as basses well hear in USA a coin that big is 0.25 to 0.50 to one buck so if did be most $6 bucks more the buy the tree kit and know that seen it fore last $6.50 two you say the coins are $0.2 not that thats last $0.12 and you just have 6 thare think if have a 100 or more i go to hared whare and get floor tiels or whoshers and save the coins fore the bus to get to hard whare to get to the stands i do yes do the math see more as post
yes i know that but if ues a coin that big its nuthe $6 bucks not $0.2 cents that my thing mitg as well thow buck in street stell 2 ceens is 2 cens and add up must come to some thing but that me must be up briing and my penny to smaill to do that or mack good bases at all
ok ok sorry cant balave that but if trew look it up us one doller coin ok to me the whoshers cheaper but if like whating and get out to get em if youz like whating cash like that dont be up set if all tree are spent on gum by if have em kids or retives kids LOL
I really have problems to understand you sometimes. Your voice is very quiet and fast 😅
