Hi, I'd like to make a very true statement about the SY 300... It's an Instrument and needs to be approached and learned as any other New instrament. ......If you think it's a stomp box you're quite wrong and you'll dislike it...., With that being said , Most of you wonder why most of your favorite musicians play well. Amongst practice and skill , when they get a new pedal ,they study it and learn how to play it too. By taking this approach you'll learn you pedal and be able to make it do things that you hadn't even concidered. The SY -300 I've made so many amazing patches. Most people that buy the SY 300 listen to the Programed patches and as you say" You were really underwhelmed ". I've created Growling Saxes ,Jaco's Bass, the begging to "Beat it" , Chucks Fugal horn, Electric Violins, Jazz Violins,12 String Guitar, Cello, stand up Bass , Keith Emerson's patches, Vangelis patches (. Blade Runner) , Mini Moog, Piano and you can hear the key bottoming out. Organs, Melotron's etc and they're really good. I've listened to some on the VG forum and those ( to be nice , weren't in the Ballpark ). Thank you for your ideas !
Wise words.I always regarded even stompboxes to be part of my instrument and not just an add-on. That goes double for the SY-300 because it's a synth too, just one that's triggered by another instrument. There is no substitute for practice and knowledge of your instrument :)
HI Chrissie thanks this is great. If you have time could explain the patch you used at 4:15m (Where you reduced the wet mix). Is that one you created or was that a preset? Thanks very much.
Thanks! That patch is a modified version of P81 "Hanging Garden". I can't remember, off-hand, exactly what it was I changed but it sounds like just small details to tidy it up with the violin.
Very very helpful thank you so much. In tossing up between SOUNDS of Roland JU-06 vs plug-n-play of this unit ... the sonic possibilities or not of this will clinch it. Thanks again🙏🧐
Get a multi-channel looper, and an external reverb and delay pedals [or a pretty cool multifx like the zoomMS70CDR which has tons of reverbs and delays]. You'll be composing some really interesting landscapes with your setup.
Hi Chrissie, thanks for the videos, really helpful! A question - do you think the SY-300 is capable of producing a synth brass section patch? Ideally with a couple of octaves simultaneously. I want to trigger this from my trumpet or trombone, to make it sound like a full horn section, but not sure if the SY-300 is the right machine to achieve this. Thanks!
Hi Dee, yes I'm pretty sure the SY-300 could do that. There are a couple of 'brass' presets built in already and with a little tweaking it's easy enough to make them play different octaves - the three oscillators can be tuned independantly and they can get pretty powerful, especially the detuned saws. I'd love to hear that too!
You add it as a function of one of the CTL buttons (I use CTL3). Menu | CTL/EXP | CTL3 | 1 | then set the 2nd 'switch' to ON, the third to PRESET and the dial right over to the end where you'll find BPM TAP. Hope that helps :)
Actually, it's not even mains hum, it's probably just my fridge or something humming in the house - you can hear birds outside too. I don't have a soundproof studio ... ;-)
This is one of the most useful demonstrations of this device, thank you
Just found this, best tips and demo of this box by far
Thanks!
Thanks so much for providing the extra bits on configuration. Very informative
Totally concur on mixing in the dry signal with the effected sound. It gives the sound more depth and definition.
The mix of the dry signal and a patch... That's jawesome 🤓🤘
Sounds absolutely amazing
That hum is actually quite pleasant lol. Very nice video! Keep em coming.
Wow! Beautiful! I need one of these. Thanks!

Chrissie Caulfield ...Much appreciated .... Than you...🙏🏼
Sounds ace , lovely playing as well

Thank you Chrissie, very informative and helpful. your Q&A also on point. thanks for sharing!
Have you done a video on you GT1000?
Thanks!
I did this video on the GT-1000, I might also do a 'one year on' video when I get chance ruclips.net/video/Jpvv8Uw-bGQ/видео.html
this inspires me to get a violin and a sy-300

I've had a looper and a large pedalboard (now replaced with a GT-1000) for ten years now. The SY-300 is the new thing ;-)

So is your expression pedal controlling the volume of the pedal or is it acting like ctl1?
It's plugged into the ctl socket so it can do almost anything really :)
tks! Super great!
Wonderful 👍🏽

How did you turn on tap tempo? Would please tell me hos is that possible?

Are you by chance a John Cale fan?
I'm not, though that's more down to ignorance of his work than anything else.
when your not playing there is a low frequency coming through.Do you know where that was coming from?
It's just mains hum. It's not there normally, I think I had the mixer plugged into a different socket, sorry

coño, un alien
All i wanna know can it kpop?
Not my area of expertise, sorry!
It probably can... This thing is more versatile than the majority of it's owners realize.
