- Russia has warned Lithuania of "serious" consequences after it banned the rail transfer of some goods to the Russian territory of Kaliningrad.
Kaliningrad - a strategic region where Russia's Baltic Fleet is headquartered - has no border with mainland Russia.
The western territory was annexed from Germany after World War Two in 1945 and is bordered by EU and Nato members Lithuania and Poland.
Lithuania says it is only following the EU sanctions imposed over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

As far as Lithuania is concerned, these are really EU sanctions it is obliged to implement. Russia has already said many times EU sanctions having no effect on it. So, there is really no issue.

No one is obliged to implement sanctions on any country without a UNSC resolution, that is in the UN charter.

There is an agreement between Russia and Lithuania for transporting goods and energy to Kaliningrad.
Relax Lithuania is not blocking or sanctioning anything they are just conducting a special operation that's all agreement is still in place.
Russia needs to ask itself the question "Why is Lithuania is doing this?"
The more interesting question is why did Lithuania go out of their way to anger CCP last year bringing massive trouble their way?

There are a lot of German troops in Lithuania protecting it. The need to not deplete its forces in Lithuania has effected Germany's ability to supply equipment to Ukraine though it has supplied a great deal of financial aid and flies injured Ukrainian Soldiers to Germany for treatment. The population of Lithuania is 2.8 million. It needs to be defended by NATO.

Not when there are agreements in place to keep goods flowing into a literal part of someone’s country. NATO is bitching that Russia is holding Ukrainian grain hostage while they hold a part of Russia hostage. I could see Lithuania preventing military goods from flowing into Kaliningrad, but they shouldn’t be prevented from supplying part of their territory with essentials. I don’t know why they’re surprised and Lithuania could cause a world war over this if it gets bad enough. The people of Kaliningrad are people just like you and me, they shouldn’t be punished for the actions of their government. Russia has kept that region supplied via these lines for decades, only now is it suddenly an issue.

This would also remove 40+% of Russias income from this, that is roughly 20% of their GDP or $260 BILLION US; inturn making tens of thousands unemployed from these sectors and reducing GDP further.
India and China are currently at 90% of their capacity, so exporting 10% more to these would be equivalent 1%-2% of what is currently exported to EU.
So, yes, they should cut off the supply to the EU. This would cripple #Putlers economy very quickly.

Russia is calling this a hostile act yet their invasion of Ukraine is not considered an invasion. Also what military action can they take against Lithuania. First they need to go to Belarus unless they want to attack from Kaliningrad, which is not wise. Second Lithuania beefed up their defenses and are alert so no element of surprise. Russia also has most of it’s land forces fighting in Ukraine and is bringing in old tank models, likely from WW2. They also started to use conscripts which don’t have the same caliber as professional soldiers. Lastly Lithuania is a NATO member, you attack them, best case scenario Russia gets involved in a giant eastern front from the Baltic to the Black Sea.
Russia knows it cant fight a conventional war with NATO. So Russia if pressed too hard will certainly nk Lithuania. And no US won't start a nclr war over Lithuania. US is not that stpd

Russia is always threatening to punish someone when it's Russia who should be getting threats! At some point you have to tell Russia “too bad” and just see how they respond. Even if ww3 is a risk, Russia is putting everyone in that position. The west needs to stand up to Russia and risk whatever consequences there are. I love how Russia calls everyone "hostile" when they are the only one who has shown hostility and aggression. Also, Putin himself said that western sanctions were not effecting Russian economy, so why should a limit on certain goods bother him?
