Hey Chris - About a year ago, I began to plan for my retirement (12/31/2023) and if I could go from my MacBook Pro 13” to an iPad Pro. You’ve been a wonderful inspiration and really helped me with my decision to go solely with an iPad Pro 12.9” (2022), Magic Keyboard and external monitor. I’ve adopted many of concepts and apps you’ve highlighted and now I’m happily living life (and traveling about 50%) with an iPad Pro. You’re practically the only one out there solely focused on life with an iPad - Thank you for that! I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the new IPad Pro M4 13” and new Magic Keyboard. I feel like the new spec bumps are good (and expected), but that the new iPadOS 18 could be a total game changer - or so I hope.
Selling my iPad Pro today since I don't have any more use for it and buying an iPad mini. Nonetheless, thank you Christopher for the crazy amount of tips and things that I didn't know I could do with my iPad! Forever a legend.
Huge fan here, loving all your videos and always looking forward to the notification bell. Although I am super biased, I do ask myself; why work in so many different, silo’d apps (like you mentioned). I use Microsoft Loop and achieve 99.9% of all the things are you a doing here (please fix some of the issues you are having like collaborating with your wife on Notes, silo’d apps needing 3rd party connection, etc). Note taking, actions, project management, working with family and peers, etc etc. Congrats on the new place and looking forward to the tour!
Beautiful new space. Spotted a dozen LPs (Pink Floyd to Paramore), be super keen - down the road when have time - to talk music with you. Thanks, for all the great content.
I am having issues trying to figure out how to only use the Magic Keyboard for input into Obsidian. Which does not have the bracket keys. I am much faster at typing and using keyboard shortcuts then clicking or touching a screen.
How would you tweak the capturecut to include text before the "message". I wanted to add parts of my obsidian template (or maybe add a date title or something)
The reason said I have not looked at Obsidian too closely is because often I need to save media inside the note as I understand it obsidian is text only. I understand that you can put a link to a webpage or a PDF but it seems like there’s a lot of friction involved. How do you handle documents inside of Obsidian?
I’m curious your quick thoughts on why you use Obsidian over the Notes app? I’m deeply into the Notes app and have no issue and don’t see a need to switch to another notes app.
I noticed you save read later in things, Do you think it would be a good idea to save want to read books in things?Or better use diffeeent apps for different causes (Also I’m always confused if should go back to reminders)
Inreally wanted to work with obsidian and thungs, tested them but i work a lot with email which i flag when needs action. Microsoft to do capture those flag emails ask a task. I hope things can do that one day. For obsidian, can is contains images? I print screen a lot and dump it in onenote to find that info later.
Love your videos. This was a little overwhelming, I would love for any youtuber showcasing productivity, not jumping around so much. The idea is clear, make notes, and then it branches off into a lot of other areas that feed into the main idea. Listen back to your video without watching, rate it from 1 to 10, did you understand it? Feels like product placement vs. helping the gen public better their productivity.
Hiii I'm wondering if ipad can actually become my main device as a content creator. I download a lot of youtube videos to edit my content so I'm wondering if you can easily download and manage the videos you download on the ipad.
Yep, I’ve tried a lot of task managers, but I keep going back to Things 3. On macOS I just can’t live without the Things quick entry, most others don’t have anything like that. One of m secondary gripes about using Things is that I use the Share functionality a lot to get stuff from other apps into Things, but way too many apps don’t pre-fill the metadata, ie the page title when you share from Safari. There’s nothing stopping them, they just don’t add that teeny little bit and I find myself with a ton of untitled notes in my inbox. Most of the time I’m sitting at my Mac at the desk and clicking individual links and re-adding them to Things so I get the page title, ie from RUclips videos since the RUclips app doesn’t add the title to the shared object.
Things3 and Craft and Apple Calendar works best for me. Fantastical is great, but for travel time etc. you need the subscription and that's already included in Apple Calendar. Apple's notes are probably enough for most people, but I like the block-based editing like in Craft better.
Hi Chris, do you still pay for fantastical premium? I love Calendars 5 but it’s UI is different on the iPhone. My productivity system now has this: Apple Notes, Things, Apple Calendar, Ulysses (for long form writing) Considering Upnote to replace Apple Notes for my Second Brain but Apple notes scan to text and quick notes feature is holding me.
Great video. What is the name of the app the you are clicking on the bottom menu between the Shortcuts icon and App Library to bring up a condensed view of your Shortcuts. Keep up the good work.
Haha I’m doing a reset too 😂 I’m using Reminders and Notes (based off of your previous videos) but I’m making it much much more simplified than I originally was doing. I have repeatable tasks that I do most days. I was using Notes as a project management tool but I was forgetting things. So I use Reminders for that. One thing that I have been doing is using Goodnotes as a planner. I plan out my month and week via Goodnotes, and then add the tasks in Reminders. This way I have a hard copy of my tasks in case I accidentally mark one as complete in the widgets (which happens too much tbh)
Does Things 3 and Arkiflow not contradict each other and provide Task List duplication in your work flow system or did you just set it up for your Sponsorship?
Hi Chris. Thank you for your videos - I always learn a lot. Have you considered NotePlan3? I started using it after living in a split-world where I took notes with Apple Notes and managed tasks with Things3. NotePlan3 seems to do well in both (and you have everything in one place), and it has a pretty solid integration with calendar and reminders. I wonder what you think of it.
[Teacher] Fantastical for events, Things 3 for project and task management, Bear Notes for typed notes and longterm information storage, Apple Notes for shared private notes and handwriting, Apple Reminders via Fantastical for location-based reminders and shared lists with the family
Right now jumping between todoist and things… I always return to things. As the system itself I don’t know, also trying some of them and no one seems to work 100% for me. I had high hopes for todoist calendar but the implementation let me down
I live in Reminders. I have a catch all. I tried Things with your recommendation but what bugged me was the notifications. It didnt work with Siri either, essential on car play when driving and something comes to mind. I use One Note for Business, with a daily notebook and another separated into PARA (Tiago Forte). I use Apple Notes for personal again separated into Para.
What’s wrong with the notifications? As far as I know they work the same as Reminders. I use the auto-import tool in Things for Reminders. So I’ll tell Siri to remind me about something and then it will import it into the inbox.
Could you make a video about Notion? I like it a lot, but sometimes I don't know how it works. I could imagine that you also use Notion well, or that you might try it out. Keep up the good Videos! ❤️
Yo Chris, great vid man. Two questions for you as I am working on tweaking my own system: 1) What do you use Raindrop for? 2) Have you ever tried the Bullet Journal method, if so, are there things you take from the practice and apply to run your system?
Chris, so looking forward to your Obsidian video. This one was awesome. Thanks . . . Also, is that the Elgato Stream Deck app in your Dock? How do you use it with the iPad?
🤗THANKS CHRIS,ALOT OF GOOD SUGGESTIONS,…BUT I AM RETIRED AND I don’t have a lot of notes to keep tract of, but a lot of things do you have to change your habits and make use of it🤗😬 , but I’m using speech to text on my iPad 10th GEN and it works really well saving my fingers😬💚💚💚
I’m always trying new stuff to see what works. I love the openness of Obsidian. Because it’s just text files there is a lot of automating you can do with it.
Sometimes an app doesn’t work the way you think it will or even the way you want it too, even if it works perfectly at first. He was using Drafts and Craft as his main notetaking app at several instances. As he mentioned in the first part of the video, use the app that works for you
Love your shortcuts! You should do a vídeo like this but with non payed após ir without subscription. What is the shortcut that you use with that list to choose what to do?
Youve lost a lot of weight since i first saw your channel. If that was you goal. Good on you. but i hope you are trying to gain muscle too Ps. Any thoughts about apples new releases? Perhaps a new ipados vs macos as soon as they change the software. Apparently thats soon
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your workflow, just watching what others are doing to become more productive. At the end of 80% the videos I have watched I am mostly disappointed. To me taking notes is just a minimized reminder, I would never ever write sentences about some irrelevant stuff. Even saving links - read later, read next week, my oh my. If I don’t remember it’s not worth it anyway. Unless it’s not about work and moneymaking at the end of the day, self-development for sure, trash it. People should keep their focus on HOW to remind the groceries and much much more, that’s my advice. Not typing those lists all day long. Have a nice day!

Things 3 and Apple Notes are such a strong combo
I enjoy the fact you change apps up all the time. It really shows that you’re tied more to a system and not an app.
Excited for the Obsidian video
Could you tell us what obsidian theme is on the video? looks so clean.. is it primary?
Just use apple Notes snd Reminders
Love the TaskCut shortcut! But is there any way I could retrofit the CaptureCut shortcut for Notion, instead of Obsidian?
So cool that you're an F1 fan (saw your Miami GP calendar items) 🏎!

Could you share your shortcut you used when you activated the action button?
Hello! What Obsidian theme are you using? Could you please let me know?
I'm still stuck on writing on napkins.
we need that obsidian video
Hey man, thanks for sharing your thoughts! 👍 I have a question: How did you get the JetBrains Mono font into your Obsidian app on iPad?
I am having issues trying to figure out how to only use the Magic Keyboard for input into Obsidian. Which does not have the bracket keys. I am much faster at typing and using keyboard shortcuts then clicking or touching a screen.
How would you tweak the capturecut to include text before the "message". I wanted to add parts of my obsidian template (or maybe add a date title or something)

How do you handle documents inside of Obsidian?
What is the Finder icon in the dock of the iPad?
I appreciate your shortcut so much. Anyone know where/how I adjust the save location to my own path?
How do you make the shortcut folder that’s tied ti the action button?
that keyboard wall is SICKKKK

What’s the cube shelf display you have in the background. Been looking for something like this to balance having books and my Lego models on display.

This is kinda and kinda not off topic, but what do you use as your password manager?
Does Things 3 and Arkiflow not contradict each other and provide Task List duplication in your work flow system or did you just set it up for your Sponsorship?
Genuine question: where does TickTick sit for you? Is there a specific reason you choose not to use it?
You promised the obsidian video. Where is that?
Why use Obsiden for CaptureCut rather than Drafts?
What’s your productivity system look like?

Reminders is the best. Also if you dont complete a task it remains in the today view as a….. well reminder
@@GeoffMitchellProductions Things 3 does the same
Thank you so much for this! And wait...didn't you just move into a new place like a year ago? New studio looks beautiful. Thanks again!
Yeah I did and I hated that place. I’m going to explain all of that soon. I’m so happy with this new setup.
@@ChrisLawley Well I hope this new place works out great for you. Just love the vibe of your studio, it really looks great.

It’s just a shortcut. I wish the stream deck worked with the iPad the way it worked with the Mac.

Great video, please hurry up with the Obsidian video 😂 I use Post it notes to remember everything

Nice video…….as an apple notes, calendar & reminders only user it sure seems like they do everything you mention in the video.
What keyboard is this?
Don’t mind me, Im just here patiently waiting for the Things app video.
Christopher I'm waiting for your Obsidian's video.
Why don’t you use notion anymore?
Why so many keyboards?
Cant wait for your new ipad pro review soon

I think I might migrate to Capacities. They just launched a beta api today so I’m ready to try them again 😮😮
Notability + Apple Notes 😉
I’m a little confused…I use craft because you sold me on it in a few videos..I guess you abandoned that app?
