As there are literally hundreds of potenzial routes through self management for specific needs, this approach of yours appears to be at least more universal and inspiring than other approaches . Thanks for that. I will work my way through this system over the next few days..
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I just cleaned up my notes using this system and the PARA System together and I feel a lot less stressed now that my Notes are nice and neat and organized! I still need to perfect the system, but I'm on my way to sanity and productivity!
I am really impressed by this video . The most impressive thing to me is that you created a system which you chose to „implement in Apple Notes“. This does not mean that it only works with Apple Notes. The system might indeed last forever, regardless the tool of implementation (tool agnostic).
Today is day 8 for me. and I think i'm going to stay with this for life. I'm a big fan of Tiago and Ryder and been meaning to combine their system but this is really the sweet spot.
FYI, your shortcuts just made a lot of things easier for me on setting up my journal and I use a lot of MacOS more but if i Have to capture something really quick, navigating on the phone is easy. Appreciate you, Matthias!
This is so fantastic! I’ve been trying to figure out a way how to put together a kind of table of contents like you have in notion. And I finally found it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. This will certainly improve productivity and workflow throughout my day.
I think you really leverage the power of the apple notes link since it has become available. The rest may be tailored individually. Good ideas in here and great job on the video!
I LOVE THIS! I consider myself an advanced notes user, but this takes the possibilities to whole new level. I have used a Franklin Planner method for a while now, and the forever notes framework will be a great addition for better search and organization. My only request is more thorough deep dives into the setup of each component. Great job and enjoy your coffee!
I LOVE THIS!! I spent the last 2 days reorganizing my notes in accordance to this system, and it’s amazing! Deleted Notion and definitely gonna use this, probably forever tbh!
Great video. So much so, I set it up. I made it to the journal section but found it difficult. A separate video would be nice. The smart folders idea is outstanding. I also got the chance to clean up my notes.
Nicely done! I love your system, it's helped me rethink my diaries and recordkeeping methods. I look forward to seeing how you and others customize your notes.
There is a lot I like about this system and I've started implementing it in my Apple Notes. Great job! Your web site, too, is outstanding. Can't wait for you to post more videos on this!
Thanks for all your hard work putting this framework together. Amazing! Is it possible for someone to create shortcuts (or some other tool like a set of templates) that will help to more easily create journal pages? Those pages are filled with lots of links and look a little time consuming to create. It would be cool if there was a way to press a button and have it ask what day you want to add and the rest would be done for you. I'm sure you've already stewed on this question, so curious if you have thoughts on how to inject automation into your system.
Unfortunately linking notes is currently not possible in Apple Shortcuts. I'll be explaining my process in one of the next videos, it doesn't have to be time consuming when done on a daily basis.
Extremely impressive, very clean, but I believe very granular approach that requires heavy discipline to some extent. I have been testing this a couple of weeks ago in another way. I really like your approach.
Love it, definitely a huge fan of bullet journaling and para method. The only thing that kinda bugs me is that I have to link all the stuff manually and one by one. Like the days in a month. Is there a shortcut I can use to make these manual steps faster? Thanks so much man!!!
Hi Matthias! I just joined your forum and I am currently working on back-linking this amazing journal feature that you have! I just wanted to know if there were plans to do a video that goes through your specific set-up? I really like how you have financial trackers and other things linked in, so i'm just curious to see how that's integrated in the notes system
As someone who had to build something like this using asana and Todoist integration, there’s clearly a lacking of modular tools that’s slowly being developed with workflows like this! Cheers and thanks for figuring out notes 👍
This is excellent. For someone fairly new to Notes I find your approach most helpful. Logical, easy to put together and gives a great framework which is infinitely adaptable to the individual use. Thank you so much for putting this together and spending the time to lay it out so clearly and simply.
Hello, Matthias. I love the workflow and the organization method you are using. and I know that it was created with apple notes in mind, but I tried it with Bear and it is so much easier to set us links from shortcuts in seconds and links are all clickable and auto organized in the side bar. there is also nested tags and it is easy to use them
I'm glad it's working so well for you in Bear. As much as I love that the framework is kind of tool-agnostic, one reason why I decided on Apple Notes, was it was a software I already had installed. But it makes me very happy to see how people are using it and making it their own.
I admire your system and your ability to both create it and sustain it. But as always it is a system for systematic people. I yearn for system, but I can never achieve it, as I'm not able to make my needs merge with other people's systems, and when I almost do, I always forget the system over time. But great work! 🙌
it's brilliant and so thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am establishing my notes, but how can I make a link "today"? do i need to make a new shorcut? please help me to build your system.. I made most of them except for "today" link.
I started setting up your framework for myself yesterday and I adore it. I’ve always used Things 3 to manage my tasks and projects, but I never found a great way to host my daily routines. I anticipate using the Daily Journal for this, and as a space for gratitude. As far as projects go, I was using Bear to capture notes but I feel this is much more intuitive as it’s native. I appreciate all the hard work you’ve clearly put into creating all of these resources, and your website. Great stuff, and I will be sharing with my productivity focused friends. Cheers!
I subscribed as soon as I finished watching this video and I found this to be so well explained and it makes so much sense. I am now going to implement this and change my note taking experience in Notes and take it to another dimension/level. Thank you so much! 😀
This is really cool! I've always been dissatisfied with Obsidian on my phone because the app is super slow. Now I can use Apple Notes for so much more and only do the very heavy lifting with obsidian.
I don't track expenses in Apple Notes at the moment. The table function is just not there yet. I use Numbers and embed a link to the Numbers file into the project note.
This is a really good system Matthias. I have adopted this as the framework of my Bullet Journal practice with a few minor changes. In addition my daily notes are handwritten with the Apple Pencil Pro rather than typed. My iPad hasn’t been used so much and having everything clearly organised on my Mac, iphone and iPad has been a game changer.
I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to obtain the bold * 😅. It was a great session, though. There’s more explanation of how things should look than how to set them up step by step. I love the Forever Note idea. I just need to be handheld during the setup. Looking forward to more videos 😊
Upon discovering this on RUclips, I find myself perplexed as I read the accompanying comments. Despite my best efforts, I am unable to comprehend the underlying mechanism of this process. It appears that my cognitive abilities may be insufficient to grasp the intricacies of the instructions, as I perceive a substantial gap in the provided information. I have been using Notes for quiet some time and consequently have a lot of different notes based on the PARA system. I just can't see how this system is compatible. The impression I'm getting from the instructions is that there is an enourmous assumption that a newbie will make all kinds of deductions to set this up.
Fantastic video and, I believe, a real game changer elevating Apple Notes. In my opinion, you would not need any other system. Excellent and well done. I look forward to future insights.
Niiice! 🙌 Paid so much for the phone, and I’ve been looking for a way to get it usefully organised using native functionality without privacy problems and extra spending. Thanks 🙏🏼
I believe the Journal app is excellent for long-form journaling. However, I am more interested in the bullet journaling method. Additionally, I value the interconnectivity between my “other” notes.
Absolutely brilliant. Coming from Tiago / PARA and was working on moulding Apple notes to Tiago's setup as close as possible. Where do you keep the Home note for best / fastest possible accessibility?
Fantastic video and organizational method! I'm planning to adopt many of your suggestions and see how they work for me. I appreciate Apple Notes for its simplicity, but I still encounter some bugs, particularly when working across multiple devices and integrating pen drawings with text. Additionally, I'm concerned about accidentally deleting text without the option to recover it since Notes lacks a backup or history feature. I love craft docs for everything they do and will decide which i will use moving forward for the majority of notes. weiter so Mathias!
Thank you! 🙏 I understand your concerns especially if you’ve had a bad experience with Apple Notes before. I’m sure you’ll find the right solution for your needs. Let me know if Incan be of any help! Vielen Dank ☺️
Thanks Matthias for introducing this new system. I'm intrigued so I started to implement it, but I was wondering how do you handle quick notes that are written on the fly (trust me, when you're a management consultant, there are many!). PARA method proposed an Inbox folder that requires to categorize notes later on. How can I integrate this notion of "quick note" into your system?
It depends on the type of quick notes you’re taking. I prefer adding them to my daily note rather than creating a separate quick note. If it feels like the note deserves its own space, I’ll create a new note from the Today note and copy-paste the content there.
This app idea looks really good, but what would be the best way to start organizing the 300+ Apple Notes I already have? I'd love to see suggestions or a tutorial on that.
I might make a video about the process in the future. For now you can check out the article in the docs: forevernotes.webflow.io/articles/migrating-legacy-notes
Love the system! I think it makes a lot of sense on how I think and work. Thanks for sharing it. For the journal, do you create the header links (home, dates, back, next, etc) manually for each day? 10:39
Thanks! I really want to make apple notes work, but then I learned of amplenotes with their task rating algorithm , fingers crossed that works out, but then another side of me says "just stick with apples ecosystem" haha
this is really interesting - I dont have much of a need for this in my personal life, but im forever looking at ways to better organise my work life, where i have lots of different projects big and small going on... deffo will see how i can apply this. I would love apple notes to have better task management with their todo's. Does the formatting mess up between iOS and MacOS?
Why haven’t I been using it this way, thank you so much just what I needed. I love apple notes and I’ve used links etc but never like this to keep it organised. Thanks 🙏
Wow, a really well-thought-out framework. I like the idea of having a heading for each year in the daily notes so you don't have to recreate the structure annually. I thought about doing something similar (though much simpler) with Apple Notes before but decided against it because, as far as I know, there's no reliable way to export it in a usable format if you ever want to switch tools. Maybe I'm just being hopeful, but I hope Apple will improve their export options-like offering bulk Markdown exports.
Hi I am attempting to follow your setup instruction but I think I am missing something. I notice on your home page that there is an icon in front of the various items listed under projects (Kitchen Renovation) it looks like a folder icon but I am not seeing that icon on my home page so somewhere I have lost the plot, your comment please would be appreciated thanks
Thank you for sharing this framework! It will help me a lot. I will start organizing my notes using this as a guide. How do you create a heavy asterisk?
Hello can you please make an in-depth videoabout it and how to set it up because i have lots of folders and am having a problem to link it all together because folders don’t link with each other… Thank you 😊
Hello I would like to say that I’m really impressed however I’m kind of lost but it’s OK I just have a question now 2024 is ending and I got my journal notes so let’s say next year come should I make another about 380 other notes and if I did so how can I organize the notes and jounal notes of each year
Awesome Video! Can't way to see more details about how you built out each section. The accompanying website helps lay it out pretty well too! Awesome job!
I’m really enjoying this framework, thanks for sharing it! The only thing I’ve run into is that I can’t create subtags in Apple Notes. With subtags, I could easily build a powerful system without cluttering the global tag space with tags like ‘Asian’. As a global tag, it’s a bit too much, but as a sub-tag for ‘recipes’, I’d love it. Hopefully Apple adds this feature in the future
As an addition to my previous comment, this system will really get strong when apple would offer a way to find notes that are not yet tagged / connected to hubs or collections.
Matias (Spelling?) - Very impressive. - - - I've watched many videos on Apple Notes. Most explain how to use it and rely on the viewer to determine his/her need. You've done the reverse. You conceptualized and described the needs and demonstrate how to implement with Apple Notes. - - - Kudos to you. The only suggestion I have is to change the name of your system. It is too similar to Evernote, another app that has been around for 12-14 years.
This seems to be an amazing system, I wish there was more informations to create it… For instance, I don’t get how you’ve created those navigationnal links. Especially the “back” and “next” 🤔
I'm going to give this a go. Am I right to think that folders/sub folders etc. play no role in this system? I realise it's not possible to link to a folder, at least not at the moment. Thereagain, I may have completely missed the point!
i was waiting for this! i used the PARA method before but the notes got kind of lost in these folders.. but i'm still a bit confused about the tags types (life areas) and collections. in my current setup life area atsg = collections. or could i do more with collections? still not sure how to set everything up comming from a pure PARA world
In Forever ✱ Notes life areas can be several things: a header on the ✱ Home note, a ** Hub, a ✱Tag or a ✱ Collection. I personably use ✱ Hubs for most of my life areas. Projects and Resources live in ✱ Collections, but active and important ones also live in ✱ Home and on some life area ✱ Hubs. I don’t use an archive at all. And yes, you can use ✱ Collections for many different things, not just life areas. Use them for any note type you’d like to track: book notes, checklists, meeting notes, and so on…
@@myforevernotes Wow, thank you for this answer! This helped a lot. I changed the structure for some par of my notes and i'm getting the idea now. It's time consuming but worth it. The Forever Notes Framework solves the problem i always had with a pure PARA structure.
This is Soooo Good! Thank you. How do i activate „Back“ And „Next“??? What is the link under these words? Thank you so much for the clarity. I love that and I am curious for the next videos to come- I subscribed immediately 😊
So, I have a question about the daily notes. How can I manage the daily notes when I pass 1 year. Ex: I journaled on November 20, 2024. How it will behave with November 20, 2025?
Your system seems well fitted for a Zettelkasten approach. Thanks for the insight.
Fascinating. This turns Notes into a self-contained browser....great work. I look forward to more.
This is a breath of fresh air! I’m so impressed. This standard work for Apple Notes is amazing. I’m activating today!

Awesome that you turned original app into something more valuable and useful 👏
With this system is there a need for a folder system and if so will you do a video on it?
Forever ✱ Notes only uses smart folders aka ✱ Collections. Video is coming soon.

I believe the Journal app is excellent for long-form journaling. However, I am more interested in the bullet journaling method. Additionally, I value the interconnectivity between my “other” notes.

I keep all notes in the default Notes folder.

For the journal, do you create the header links (home, dates, back, next, etc) manually for each day? 10:39

Hey I’m using this setup and it’s great. In the journal daily section, what do you link the ‘today’ word too, since it’s already on the current date?
You link it to the “Open Today’s Note” shortcut. So even when you’re checking another days note you can get back to Today with one click.
It's a framework, that's interesting. Thanks!

Sure thing! It’s already in the planning.
This video give me peace of mind. Tks!
There are some tools to help export Apple Notes, they are for MacOS only though.
In have no words!❤
Hi I am attempting to follow your setup instruction but I think I am missing something. I notice on your home page that there is an icon in front of the various items listed under projects (Kitchen Renovation) it looks like a folder icon but I am not seeing that icon on my home page so somewhere I have lost the plot, your comment please would be appreciated thanks
When you link to another note in Apple Notes via >> the link will have a small notes icon in front of it.
Thank you for sharing this framework! It will help me a lot. I will start organizing my notes using this as a guide.
How do you create a heavy asterisk?
Thanks for trying it out! You can just copy the symbol from my website: www.myforevernotes.com/articles/the-heavy-asterisk
The icing on the cake would be a windows app for apple notes, or a more robust web based version.
This was recommended to me today actually: www.reddit.com/r/productivity/comments/1at8vds/apple_notes_on_windows/
I am having issues with creating the Today links shortcuts, but I loving this note system so far.
What is the problem?
Hello can you please make an in-depth videoabout it and how to set it up because i have lots of folders and am having a problem to link it all together because folders don’t link with each other…
Thank you 😊
Working on it 👍
Hello I would like to say that I’m really impressed however I’m kind of lost but it’s OK I just have a question now 2024 is ending and I got my journal notes so let’s say next year come should I make another about 380 other notes and if I did so how can I organize the notes and jounal notes of each year
No need. You reuse the same notes, just add a Heading 2025 to any ✱ Journal note.
Great video. I created my own encrypted CRM type database that syncs across my devices, it works for my information and the way my brain works.
Oh, nice!!!
Awesome Video! Can't way to see more details about how you built out each section. The accompanying website helps lay it out pretty well too! Awesome job!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Thank you! I totally agree. I encourage you to give feedback to Apple: www.apple.com/feedback/notes/
As an addition to my previous comment, this system will really get strong when apple would offer a way to find notes that are not yet tagged / connected to hubs or collections.
This is super helpful! I’m using it to streamline my Apple Notes process.
Thank you! I'm glad it resonates with you.
Is this in the App Store? I can’t find it.
Never mind. I’ve been highly misled by my assumptions. 🤣🤣🤣
What a good recommendation from youtube. Instant subscribe 😁
Very happy to hear.
This seems to be an amazing system, I wish there was more informations to create it…
For instance, I don’t get how you’ve created those navigationnal links. Especially the “back” and “next” 🤔
I’m already working on some more in depth videos on how to set it up.
Linking back to the previous and next day.
@ 🤦🏽♀️ofcourse 🫣Thank you very much
Where do I start to organise and clean up my +~ 4000 notes?
You can find a little starter guide on how to migrate legacy notes to Forever ✱ Notes: www.myforevernotes.com/docs/migrating-legacy-notes
Your sistem its awesome! Mabye you can do a video on how to relate this sistem with reminders app
Maybe in the future.
So, I have a question about the daily notes. How can I manage the daily notes when I pass 1 year. Ex: I journaled on November 20, 2024. How it will behave with November 20, 2025?
You’ll use the same note again. Just add a Heading of 2025 and add your notes underneath it.
Sehr hilfreich, vielen Dank! Ist es auch möglich zu erstellten Ordnern zu verlinken? Oder geht das nur mit Notizen?
Leider kann man das im Moment bei Apple Notes nicht. Man kann nur Notizen miteinander verlinken.
Danke. Abo ist in jedem Fall gemacht. Weiter so 😊
