- We decided to build a DIY Floating patio for our backyard. It was really easy to build and cost less than 500 dollars. Everything we used was found at Lowes!

Just finished building a 14ft x 7ft decking, real chuffed with it, took me the best part of 3 days but then again on me own and also have MS, but real pleased with it, great video bud.👍👍
I’m building an 8x8 floating and this video was the best one I found. Because it was literally just a regular guy getting it done, I guess I can relate with you!
Love the dek blocks. I built a similar floating deck years ago and it lasted a long time. My wife loved it so much I ended up expanding it over the years. Think I started with a 12x12 and expanded to 16x24’. I also ended up with rails and a steps too. Quite frankly that deck ended up helping to sell the house!
That’s exactly what I want to build this weekend too. Thanks for the info.
Those added sound effects for the squishy deck were a great addition to the video!
Good job, back yard is rocking.
A back yard in FL is a must have. You guys did a good job, looks good. More good times are coming!
This is so cool. I love you guys. May husband and I are gonna try this next weekend, thanks!
So glad I found this video, looks great!
The floating element is everything!!
Safety third!! 😂🤣 Love the flip flops no shirt and circular saw! At least you had the "safety sunglasses" on! Looks good Jack!! --Brent
Good to see you back at it, Jack.
Very informative. Watched all these videos on decks with cement blocks and couldn't figure out about the length of the joists. You answered that and let me onto another guide. Thanks!
Looks great Jack. Fantastic job!
Good job Jack. I like the floating deck. God bless. !!!
Nice Yard, you will enjoy it for many years.
Nice job, the back yard is an awesome place to hang out. 👍
Man that deck came out looking pretty sharp! You guys did a heckuva job!
You guys are awesome Lol you can do anything Jak looks great man. Stay safe
Nice job guys!!
Hey Jack I love your porch needs a swing on it stay safe man
Great video Jack! I happen to live about 30 miles from Lowe's corporation home office in Mooresville NC.
I saw the patio umbrella over part of your new deck. Academy Sports also has 10 X 10 collapsible canopies. I bought mine for about $40, and Samantha, they come in colors! They Definitely have orange!
Thanks for sharing this information with us!
Man I love it
That looks great. We did something similar about 2 years ago. Our house was built in the 60's and the concrete patio was unlevel and cracked due to tree roots. We built a 12 x 16 floating deck over the patio and connected it to another 16 x 30 floating deck over an area of the backyard the slopes heavily. We now use the space for crawfish boils, bar-b-ques and get-togethers.
Very cool!
Pretty 😎 good idea
👍👍 Great video, Yak, you and Sam are becoming the champions of DIY! Keep'em coming! 😀👏✝⚜☮🇺🇸
We will! Thanks James!
Samantha did a great job.
😆
Looks great, one step along the whole perimeter!
Thanks 👍
Good video! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great video as always Yak! Your positivity and can do attitude is really enjoyable in these crazy times we’re going through! Never disappointed with aYak & Sam video! 🤙🏼🐅🍻
Looks good
Good job, Yak!
Thanks Bert!
Nice snake nest 😂👍🏻
Just kiddin
Great idea 💡
Make sure you cover the sides to prevent critters
great DIY project.
THanks Art!
Go Clemson. Great project.
Thank you!
Jack of all trades 👍🏾
Sam with the major Project Manager skills tho!! Looks great! And a cinder block or two makes a great step in a pinch
Your patio came out great. Good job you guys. You should take advantage of every square footage of your yard!!! I plane to do the same and build an enclosed garden. Pray for me....😳😃!
SWEET DECK Brother! 🍻
Appreciate it Corey!
You are living the dream , my brother.
Trying too!
Now you just need to add a Gamecock flag to that outdoor space! Great video keep em coming.
Wow.....Great video...The deck looks great....Maybe you can go help Nichole fix her deck.....LOL
Cool project! I just got done building my pool deck. It’s about 53’ x30’ with an oval pool in it. You did some great work!
Thanks! We were excited!
So Sara just watched this and now I guess I'm building a floating patio this weekend, thanks Jack LOL. She wants to know if Samantha can come over and help her supervise?!
Captain Yack, Samantha should be getting "Supervisor" pay !
Good project
THanks!
Great project!! Where’s the intro? The song is 🔥
Looks good my friend! After a few natty lites, ya mite want to think about a rail or two... just saying
You have to do a little finish trim around the bottom edge. Then tie in your step, just one . And make it long. Like 5/6 foot.
It’s yours make yourself happy. Good job.
For no higher off the ground it is just use the concrete blocks with 2 holes in them. That would make the perfect height step. If you have one laying around try it and see
Hey Jack, never thought of doin that. Looks great. Quick question when y’all gettin back to fishin? Also I’m bein transferred to Orlando, but Navarre is where the wife says we are retiring to in two years. I tried to get Pensacola, but it didn’t work out. Waitin on the Wahoos to get goin!
Jack! This looks great. Do you mind me asking a side question: Which mic are you using for this video? I can tell the wind is howling behind you and you sound great!
OSHA rule #1: When using a Skill saw, always wear flip-flops.
Rule #2 go shirtless
😂😂
I see you sporting that LONGHORN sign there!!!!! TEXAS BABY (Ric Flair) woooOOOOOOO
Interesting
Yaw doing good ,now let's go fishing, thanks yak
Good job. In addition to being a fisherman I am a retired Structural Engineer and Builder. On the leveling aspect? Your lot is FLAT. So, you did it the most expedient way. If the terrain were more sloped, you’d dig the piers into grade and use 4x4 Posts to come up to finished grade and deck frame. But, really nice space outside. Now consider a Smoker, Pizza Oven, Grill? You could just stay/live out there. Great job. Enjoy your posts.
Is that a stadium seat behind you @ 10:26? I have two from Fulton county stadium that look exactly like that.
Happy Friday, Yak! Concerning the future stair build, if you are only building one step, you want the depth to be much larger than a standard step (which is around 11.25"/nominal 2x12). I think a depth of ~16 inches is about right. I learned that lesson the hard way.
Why is that?
@@scarlettbellier-igasaki2861 I don't really know. All I know is I replaced a one step transition and made it with a 2x12 and found myself almost missing it multiple times while descending. I believe building codes talk about this as well
@@chrisE815 I see, thank you for posting about it! it is something to consider
looking to build a floating deck. Low cost, 8' x 10' or 10 by 10' . Low cost is really important
No vibrio for Samantha, she's smart steaming/grilling them oysters.
Do you have a link for the risers
Wanna come to jersey and build mine
i am doing this but not by the house, it will be off my stone patio. i was going to use joist hangers and i saw them on the cart in this video, were these used on this deck?
Hiw much did it cost yoy all together for materials?
What wood type did you use?
From what I can see do you feel like your job but you get a new skill saw and definitely a new blade for that skill saw
Man I thought this was gonna involve pontoons and water WTH🤪... Nice job on the deck...
Don't give him any ideas :) , next time he'll build a barbecue grill floating patio on water.
Bug-A-Salt!!!
Great job....how high is your fence?
8 glorious feet
What size did u back the deck
What's under the blocks? They're gonna sink
Now all you need is a big fire pit and a kickass 8 person hot tub and maybe a full wet bar and tiki hut and some smoking hot neighbors!!😎
when are you gonna do another fishing video?
Do you remember how many of each thing you got?
Good thing you don't have code there cause that bad boy would never pass lol
It is just fine, but thanks tho!
What happened to the little hot tub you had? Would be just right for this patio area.
A nail popped it when we moved! lol
Well hopefully you buy another one, nothing like drinking umbrella drink's in your own hot tub
Don't mind me, I'm just here to see Sam : )
Steps, railings? Nah. Works fine as is. Just needs a few kids and some lost toys. Maybe an umbrella for table.
Looks great, throw some stain on it and it will last longer.
I say you had some beer why putting it together
Are you sure y'all ain't married lol
How many creatures do you have living underneath that. Really
Now it’s over 700 cause of the price of lumber. 😔
FIRST
In 2021 with new price of lumber "how to build a deck for under $1000"
Nice video production but get to the point, everyone knows WHY you would want to build a floating deck, just show how you did it. Good grief.
U talking to much not showing enough video
Poorly done video. Too much talking and Less instructions and actual step by step actions.
