My Grandmother had severe gout in her fingers caused by medication she took to keep kidney disease at bay - catch 22! We treated her fingers as best we could but crystals would erupt from her skin and it was getting to the point the holes were joining up... She passed aged 96 and had wanted to go. Gout is very serious and not caused just by a rich diet.. excellent video, thank you x

I have PBC, RA and heart problems. So this video was great to see ,I have Xanthelasma around my eyes. Love the channel , I have been watching you since 2020 . It was great seeing a young female Dr. Starting her career as a rheumatologist in a town where I see most of my medical specialists. It is great that you and your husband are going where Doctors are needed.
I like that you are showing dermatitis herpetiformis. Many physicians don’t seem to be able to diagnose it. I went to many physicians and a dermatologist who told me that there was nothing wrong with me. After researching rashes, I finally came across it. I gave up gluten and my rash went away. You would think that since Celiac’s Disease can be so serious, I would have been able to get assistance long before I did.
YES!! I spent a miserable childhood being bullied for my skin condition and covered in steroid creams that did nothing but irritate me more. I was not tested for coeliac until I was in my early 40's.
celiac here - Dermatitis herpetiformis is how I found out! the itch is insane, and yes I always say it's worse than pain! Glad to see this disease mentioned in your video!
Fellow Celiac here. I did not get Dermatitis Herpetiformis, but I did get the Tissue Transglutaminaise 6 (neurological) and 2 (intestinal) but not 3 (skin). Most don't realize that there are over 200 symptoms other than digestive. It's crazy.
I had the Xanthomas (Zanthomas?). I went to the cardiologist for baseline since heart disease runs in my family. I had these white bumps on my arms and couldn’t figure out what was going on. The cardiologist and his PA both looked at my arms and were like, “oh,” and I said, “yeah I’m on my way to the dermatologist after this appointment.” I went to the dermatologist, And she took one look at them and said she’d be right back. When she came back, she said you need to go to the lab right now. I went to the lab and I wasn’t fasting, but my triglycerides were over 5000! That is not a typo. That was when I was diagnosed with hyper triglyceridemia and obviously it was through the roof. They kept asking me why I wasn’t in the ICU or dead. Later I had gone and gotten tested again, and it was over 10,000. They were really shocked then! I already knew I had diabetes and high cholesterol, but I didn’t know anything about triglycerides at that point. Now, my triglycerides are excellently controlled, my cholesterol is normal, and my diabetes is almost completely controlled. I can never remember what those things are called, so I just usually call them cholesterol bumps. But fortunately, I’ve never had them again.
@ladykristalginn6 how do you control your Triglycerides? Medications or Dieet? Please could you collaborate a bit more and educate me in this regard. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! Finally someone explains these issues and the many skin signs that should be analyzed! Doctors seem to underestimate the benign skin tags.
I would love to see a video about Hemochromatosis. I suffered for 20 years from symptoms and was told I was fine the whole time. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis when I was 28 and polycythemia at age 39. About 4 weeks ago at age 41, my doctor took a new job, my new doctor took one look at my history and and says " let's test your ferritin". It was 827 with high tsat. A genetic test comes back homozygous for H63D. I got all the symptoms. Extreme fatigue, joint problems, etc. I cannot believe all this time no one has checked my iron. It seems like this should be on a standard CBC or metabolism test, at least a few times over 20 years.
What an interesting topic! My melanoma didn't present as a typical mole at all, honestly. My oncologist thinks it's because it started somewhere else in my body, and then migrated to my back, where it showed up as what my GP thought was a cyst. After a biopsy that was quickly ruled out. Had I known that melanoma can present in other ways besides a mole, I would have gone a lot sooner when I saw the bump forming. Good news is that I'm In remission now and feeling wonderful! ♥
My husband has always had high biliruben levels. Not enough to look yellow, he just looks tan all the time. But it's related to his gallbladder, which has issues that run in his family. He's already got gallstones.
Wow, that was super interesting! But honestly, I have no hope that any other doctor knows about this. If I told them I heard about these relations on the internet, they would most probably handle it in a dismissive way. Since a long time, by the way, I am already convinced that growths on the skin indicate also possible growths inside the body. Especially since they increasingly occur with old age. And my mother indeed had a significant increase of seborrhoeic keratosis and also developed skin cancer while she had a growth of internal cancer. 😔 I myself suddenly developed a bunch of ruby spots and little aging spots. I had them removed and they didn't occur again ever since, but I was wondering where they came from so suddenly and then also stopped so suddenly.
A "rum blossom" (AKA "gin blossom" or "whiskey nose") is an enlarged red nose sometimes seen in serious alcoholics. It used to be used in old cartoons and comics as a way to show someone was a heavy drinker. Your description made me wonder whether a rum blossom was just a large number of spider nevi concentrated in the nose, but a brief internet search suggests that it isn't.

But now i no what it was and it scared me because it is dangerous in pregenancy 😢. Thank you for all the info.
I see you are a rheumatologist. Can you do a dive into the rheumatology aspects of Hashimoto's and ideas about how to treat that? Many women with Hashimoto's end up suffering because endocrinologists say you need to see a rheumatologist but rheumatologists, although trained in autoimmune diseases, aren't trained about Hashimoto's. Neither profession will address or treat it. In western states, they will give you low dose naltrexone, and that helps, but it's almost impossible to find anyone outside of that area willing to consider it. And, because the American Thyroid Association doesn't really recognize that part of the problem and doesn't "approve" any treatment for it, that encourages most doctors to refuse to treat as well. (Same with T3/T4 treatment. As soon as your blood levels are in the "normal" range you are told you are fine and that your persistent symptoms cannot exist because "your levels are normal." You are given antidepressants instead because all of your problems are "in your head" rather than acknowledging that you are still suffering from the very disease that you actually have.)
Excellent, you're learning that you need to depend on yourself and not doctors. The first thing to do is change your diet. There are wonderful books on Hashimoto's diet plans. I'm celiac (had the dermatitis issues as well). Doctors wouldn't listen to me either, they had no idea what was going on. I had to take my health care into my own hands. Check out Dr Brooke Goldner on RUclips. She's had some amazing results. Blessings
This is very informative, thank you. I had some seborrheic Keratosis appear overnight under my left breast which prompted me to seek a mamogram early. This showed early stage high grade cancer. If I had ignored this sign it would have been a worse outcome. My surgeon said there was no link.
Just a note: I was itchy all over for 21 months. Doctors couldn't figure it out. I kept being passed on and on. I was eventually diagnosed by the University Hospital, having a biopsy as well, with allergy to light. yeah...light. WRONG!! Auto-immune disorder. Nobody gave me an MRI I have a 50 year old spinal cord injury. I figured out I shared 56 MS symptoms and told my doctor. I needed a Neurologist.....still waiting for one, they are "too busy" for me this last year. The itch went away when my stress reduced and my emotions calmed down. I was THAT bothered by uncertainty in a romantic relationship..... I was allergic to my boyfriend!😅
My sons first signs of type 1 diabetes/hashimotos was hives that came and went. He was 5 at diagnoses. We thought it was allergies at first. Edit: my eldest son has Joubert syndrome and I've never heard anything about liver/jaundice. I know kidneys are often involved depending on which gene was affected. My sons is NPHP1

Nothing wrong with them. Go to a dermatologist and they use a laser and zap them! I’ve had them since I was in my 20’s, recently had derm zap a bunch and they’re gone. They just ‘ happen’ to some of us…not serious! 👌
I have them and I have osteoporosis in my bones. My endocrinologist looked at all my cherry engionomas and told me people will have them when the bones become weak.
@@mmurray9330I have them and have just had a bone density test and it came back that I have 99% highest bone density of women in America. So… that’s not always true.

For about 30 seconds I think I developed each of the symptoms you described in this video. The power of imagination… and its confluence with anxiety. Your videos really are fantastic, thank you for sharing these.
Love your education! I have Hashimoto’s and have no thyroid tissue due to this dx when I was 25. I would love to have you do an education video on how to handle the side effects. Though I take Armour Thyroid and levels usually stay fine, I still feel awful most days.
Man, I was watching this while eating dinner and instantly had to train my brain for ... 'mind over matter' powers to strengthen my gut !!! Either way, besides your skin looking healthy and beautiful, doctor, this vid production was helpful and informative and helped to reinforce some basic preventative life style ideas to just plain eat healthier overall and try to practice healthier life living awareness day to day!
What do these conditions look like on Black or Brown skin? We are a multi-cultural society here in Canada and I know these conditions don't always look the same on darker skin tones than mine and yours Dr Deshauer
0:40 I would get such tiny hard blisters on my hands, between the fingers. … in my case it was not related to the food I ate , but to the bleach I touched . Any type of bleach still gives me this reaction . Even if I use bleach tablets I must wear gloves . I highly recommend for people not to touch bleach.❤
@Violin MD My father had gout tophi in one of joints of his fingers as well as in the foot. This was due to taking diuretics for his CHF. It cleared up but is on a maintenance dose of febuxostat and he cut down on red meat as well.
Note: As a chemist and having worked in toxicology, I recently learned that one of the causes of gout is lead exposure... Of course many of the old pewter (recipe of pewter has changed over time due to lead concerns) and crystal glass alcohol glasses and decanters contained lead, and alcohol, especially distilled alcoholic beverages extract the lead from the leaded glass containers and old pewter drinking cups. Also, too much sugar/carbs in the diet can also trigger gout as your liver works overtime converting ht excess sugars to triglycerides for storage (in case of a future famine)....
I’ve had itch worse than pain, it doesn’t depend so much on the type of pain as the type of itch. The kind of itch where you start gouging out small chunks of flesh because it is relieving, that’s one itch. And a different itch where I scratch my legs with a knife on an angle up and down, that’s almost as bad, if it continues its as bad. You can take off skin until you’re raw and the pain from the rawness is relieving. I have figured out most of my allergies now and take a daily antihistamine forever and I don’t have these things often anymore. And of course there’s some much worse types of pain. But you missed the point of the story by saying it. The pain of gouging relieves the itch and therefore isn’t worth it if the pain is worse than the itch.
I have so many skin issues, itching, rashes, dry skin, flakes on scalp, allergies etc, that I wouldn't even know where to start....I have also, always had a TON of moles, skin tags, strawberry moles, etc. Like, hundreds of them. I've had a lot removed. I got to a derm pretty regular, and they've never said anything concerning. Now, I feel like I have to ask them more questions though, just in case.
thank you so much, this was really interesting. I saw the thumbnail & was hoping for an answer/explanation about these little red 'spots' I have around my neck & chest area - not really worried about them, just annoying... ok - last time I looked... ahhh, think I might have found out what they are - cherry angiomas previous search led me to petechiae - but they're not that (for one thing, they're NOT "flat") & not the spider thingee either (no veins, don't disappear under pressure (I wish!) - nor the marks I saw in the thumbnail. anyway, thanks - always appreciate learning new things about the wonder that is the human body, looking forward to part II
Thanks! And please do not suddenly show spiders, even abstract ones. It triggers a panic reaction in some people. I felt like I heard the blood rushing in my ears for a few seconds.

I had some seborrheic Keratosis appear overnight under my left breast which prompted me to seek a mamogram early. This showed early stage high grade cancer. If I had ignored this sign it would have been a worse outcome. My surgeon said there was no link.
Thanks for sharing your experience Vickie and I’m very glad to hear it was caught early. What a scare that must have been!
Nobody gave me an MRI
I have a 50 year old spinal cord injury.
Just this week was a story on Fresh Air about itch. The woman developed it during pregnancy & the problem was her liver & bile ducts. She needed you for her Dr
I have a request: Would you guys do a full video with you playing the violin - forget medicine for a video and just give us a relaxing musical treat?? Thanks!!!
aww i love that idea!
This would be so nice
Would ❤ To See 1 🎼 🎶
@@1ma1ya1it’s literally for one video the original commenter is asking
❤ oh yes please!
Thank you very much for such a thorough and informative Chanel. I learn so much from this Chanel.
Unfortunately - in my Country we are quite dependent on Self Diagnoses because 95% of our primary care physicians have Zero clues when it comes to skin disorders or related diseases 😢 😢😢😢
Hi Dr. Thank You for making these Videos. They are a Huge help.😁👍👍❤️
i have seborroheic keratosis and it is not cancer. two dermatologists checked and both said don’t worry about it. please double check about this.
You're my favorite youtuber ❣❣
aw thank you!
@@ViolinMD btw I also have a suggestion for a video. I was wondering if you could make a video on acne because I'm a 16 year old struggling with acne and I would love to learn more about it and how to treat it!! Thanks 🫶
Wow, such a ton of information. My doctors always say they have no clue.
Can I send them to you ?
What about cherry angiomas? I have noticed a lot of these new bright red "freckle" looking all over my abdomen and chest.
Did you get a answer I have these too . i have lots of sugar trying to detox day 1 today
Nothing wrong with them. Go to a dermatologist and they use a laser and zap them! I’ve had them since I was in my 20’s, recently had derm zap a bunch and they’re gone. They just ‘ happen’ to some of us…not serious! 👌
Aging
I have them and I have osteoporosis in my bones.
My endocrinologist looked at all my
cherry engionomas and told me people will have them when the bones become weak.
@@mmurray9330I have them and have just had a bone density test and it came back that I have 99% highest bone density of women in America. So… that’s not always true.
This type of video is interesting once in a while, but I'd love to see more day in the hospital type videos! I remember you saying in a recent Q+A that those videos are easier for you anyway, and they happen to be my favorite, and in my mind, what sets you apart from other medical RUclipsrs. Keep up the great work
This was a great video. Could you give some information on fibrous papule of the nose ?
Yes, I think I have two of them 😞
Seborrhoeic keratosis - here in South Africa - in Afrikaans they are called "Graf Blommeties" - Little grave flowers
Really useful and importantly relaxing videos for med school!
I don't feel guilty binging off them as I'm still learning.
Thank you Siobhan!
Fascinating stuff! Thanks doc
i'm kind of obsessed with checking my skin and the stuff on this video is part of the reason
I just subscribed. Good information
Thanks for sharing. Informative.
Great topic and video.. thank you
For about 30 seconds I think I developed each of the symptoms you described in this video.
A lot of people with Hashimotos have underlying Epstein Barr and or Lyme.
Doc, I love your energy in the video ❤️
Thank you Doc. ❤ just subscribed. Watching from Kuwait 🇰🇼
Hello 👋 from Doha… I love your educational topic 😊
Thank you for the video
Man, I was watching this while eating dinner and instantly had to train my brain for ... 'mind over matter' powers to strengthen my gut !!!
Either way, besides your skin looking healthy and beautiful, doctor, this vid production was helpful and informative and helped to reinforce some basic preventative life style ideas to just plain eat healthier overall and try to practice healthier life living awareness day to day!
It's great to see you.
I always love your videos
Very lovely soothing voice. Canada, Montreal? I'm in Brossard ;-)
Thanks so much *MR OBALAR* on RUclips for curing me from Herpes, keep saving lives.😊❤❤..
Great video. I subbed
5:24 what are these two bright red tiny spots on the right side of the moles? is this also a sugar-related theme?
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
I love this channel ❤
9:30 What do you mean the opposite happens when you're cold? My face gets red when I've been out in winter too long.
Thank you Dr for the information
Is sugar linked to skin tags?
Yes. I was told it was caused by high sugar or insulin. Not sure which.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it’s is due to insulin resistance. Sugars is the main culprit - having a low carb diet like Ketogenic or carnivore can make it go away.
Thank you this is very helpful
Any info on Hidradenitis Suppurativa? Please help!
My friend has HS, iv heard that Hibiclens (or a wash with 4% Chlorhexidine Gluconate) could help?
Thank you !
What I will take from this video is that whatever is going on with my skin maybe it's time to check my liver...
Very interesting
Thank you❤
I’ve had itch worse than pain, it doesn’t depend so much on the type of pain as the type of itch.
Love your videos
I do love your videos. Do one on violin injuries! I play and I have a bump developing.
Thank you for this I am a nursing student.
Please bring up HS (hidradenitis suppurativa) next time, it would be so interesting!!!
thank you so much, this was really interesting. I saw the thumbnail & was hoping for an answer/explanation about these little red 'spots' I have around my neck & chest area - not really worried about them, just annoying... ok - last time I looked...
ahhh, think I might have found out what they are - cherry angiomas
previous search led me to petechiae - but they're not that (for one thing, they're NOT "flat") & not the spider thingee either (no veins, don't disappear under pressure (I wish!) - nor the marks I saw in the thumbnail.
anyway, thanks - always appreciate learning new things about the wonder that is the human body, looking forward to part II
Thanks! And please do not suddenly show spiders, even abstract ones. It triggers a panic reaction in some people. I felt like I heard the blood rushing in my ears for a few seconds.
Yep. That spider simulation was a bit much for me, too.
I’d love a video about Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria please. I’ve been living with it since 2016 😢
I figured vitiligo wouldn’t make this list, but I’d really like to know why my body thinks pigment is bad 🙃
There is a clinical trial right now , if you google it and some good info out there.
Could it be b12 deficiency or possible low copper?
