I just passed Sec+ (788/750) on the 1st of Dec on first attempt, with a non-IT background (I'm a sales and marketing manager in my mid 30's) and am working full-time. English is also my second language. I skipped A+ and Network+ and went straight for it, IMO I don't think you really need A+ and Network+ to go for Sec+, rather I learnt all the IT and networking fundamentals with the help of Google and RUclips during my Sec+ study. In addition to Professor Messer, Boson's practice exams and labs help A LOT, and please avoid CompTIA's official practice exams and labs at all cost, it simply sucks and not worth the money. Good luck guys!
Thanks!
What are you going to do next after sec+??
@@snehilsharma7036 I'm gonna conquer the world.
Nah just kidding, I'm studying for CySA+ now, lots of overlap with Sec+, but a lot more hands-on focus.
Thank you so much for your perspective! Finishing up my first term at WGU and your guidance on what I should have before job hunting has been extremely helpful.
thanku for sharing.
Great presentation!
Best vid and info ever!!!!!! Thanks for sharing
I appreciate it!!
Thanks 4 ur videos. One doubt; instead taking sec+ certification, is it much better to move towards network security certification?
Eh, no. Security+ is used for compliance reasons. Create projects to learn network security
What about CC from ISC2 for entry level?
ISC2 is legit.
Thanks for the insightful information! I just passed my A+ certification. I was originally planning to do A+, Net+, and Sec+. I see you also have done these certs as I have watched your videos on them haha. I wanted your opinion on whether I should skip the Net + and jump to Sec+ as I want to work in Cyber specifically, or if I should take the Net+ first?
I’ve been wondering this same exact thing
@@GabrielleSWalker I ended up skipping Net+ and passing Sec+ on my first try. I also spoke with Nicole over email and she suggested going straight to Sec+. Best of luck!
Hi Nicole, i am IT infra project manager for past 10 years i am trying to look for a career move in to project manager cybersecurity role could pls suggest how to go about this?
I have got CISSP last year, and currently it is 749$. However it is not only the price you are going to pay. Because to be able to prepare properly, you have to read a lot of different resources, books, or buy CISSP exam prep software to check for tests. NIST/ISO materials are also going to be beneficial. Exam itself has nothing to do with questions in book, because ISC2 itself states, books are only provide addition to your knowledge, not the all knowledge. It took me a year to prepare, however I over-prepared. It is possible to do it in 6 month if you have knowledge.
I just recently changed my major to CS. However after this semester ends this december, I will try getting my SEC+ since I am a veteran and have access to free training. I grew up with computers and love how they work, no clue why I was doing Mechanical Engineering lol. Thanks for the vid!
Forgot to mention the amazing Certified Red Team Operator (CRTO), and the blue BTL1...
Is it possible to get certification on class and which on schools would you recommend
What do you think about TryHackMe's and HackTheBox's certificates?
I definitely date you and definitely understand you will read my text messages remotely lol.
If I take the CompTIA Security + and fail it the first time I'm assuming i have ti pay full price to take it again?
Yes
9:44 HE who?? His courses?
Hey Nicole. What certs and maybe labs? do you recommend to get my foot in the door for a federal full-time blue team job? Shooting for a GS12-13 pay grade if that's realistic in a major metro area? I am working on getting a secret clearance as well(Military with an IT related job skill). Currently, I have my Bachelors in IT Management from WGU along with Security+ cert. I watched your other video on the review for WGU Masters Cyber program which I will likely do as well. Thanks!
I'm definitely thinking about heading for audit/GRC because I want a job that goes home at 5 oclock
On the CompTIA Security + on the link what do we need to buy on it to get the course/cert?
This video and the commenters’ contributions are pure gold! Thank you all!💛
Please tell me after cybersecurity what i can do now I completed cybersecurity and pls tell me how to get job fresher & which skills needed
I’m interested in networking
The GRCP is a great one to go for if you are willing to pay and want to start adding acronyms to your resume. This is a great one to get your foot in the door, especially for higher ed jobs or as a security analyst for a smaller company. $400 per year for it, but open book online test with unlimited retakes. I think its a great financial risk to potentially get your foot in the door
Thank you so much for this great information. I hope your CISSP exam went well. would you like to share your experience about the exam and how you prepared for it.
What do you think about it he IBM CS with Coursera?
Hi Nicole! I am looking to get into cybersecurity and I'm buying a course that gives me access to:
Cisco CCENT,CompTIA A+,CompTIA Linux, Comptia Network+,
CompTIA Security+, CompTIA IT Fundamentals Certification and CompTIA CySA+
I want to get an entry level job in IAM/GRC route so I wonder which of these exams to take as the course only provides the ones for the A+.
I was thinking of paying for the Security+, Linux and CySA. Will that be enough to start with or should I also add the Network exam too?
Thanks in advance 😃
do this (A+ "if you want', net+, sec+, then get cloud aws ccp/az-900, then either go for linux+ or LPIC or essentials, then go for CYSA+ or CCNA Cyberops, get the CEH or the eJPT (if you are more advance) and lastly a project management cert (itil 4 / pmi capm) dw for the cissp for now. that way you have everything in your resume that employee could want. network, linux, cloud, management, security defensive and offensive.
Hi Nicole,
you said that for SSCP certification exam you need either one year of experience or Bachelor or Master Deegree to compensate...How exactly does this work? Do they check if you have Degree in Cybersecurity field or could it be IT field in general (f.e. Bachelor in Computer Science or so).
I've actually bought the hard-copy of the book and wanted to start of with this one but wasn't sure in this pre-condition.
Many thanks in advance for your answer!
Not sure if they check, pretty sure you can get away with not having that one year but I would check with ISC2 to see... I know for the CISSP they check 100%
Aws always offers pretty cheap if not free teachings and events. I am also working on a aws school cert.
How did the CISSP go?! Lol
😭
@@nicoleenesse next time I’m sure you’ll be good! I take my security+ exam Friday thanks for the awesome videos!
@@joserojo5462 did you pass?

Hello Mam!
I am from Electrical Background, could you plz help me which entry level certificate will help me to start career in SOC Analysts job role?
Have a good day!
Security+ by CompTIA
I love your videos thanks for making them! They're extremely helpful.
Also, I'm finishing my cyber security course in a few months. What certificate would you recommend I start with first? CCSK? Security+?
Security+
Can someone lend a job by doing these certs or you also need a bachelors degree?
C Cisco is the highest ,, executive leadership
What about the new ISC2 CC cert?
I am I uk but I don't know if its better to go to uni or get licence what do you suggest cause I am very confuse 😅help please!!!(I am 37 almost )any suggestion will be great for me
I am not familiar with UK job market. Sorry!
It's after October 17th. How'd you do on the exam!!!!!!??????
😭😭😭
Hello I do I get into PCI DSS
Nicole you are amazing, thank you for all of this
Thank you!!
Have you thought of learning python? im bouncing back between python and linux for the cloud security path. not sure which one to learn first.
Yeah, it is on my list to learn. it is my least favorite subject lol
Can you elaborate why you geared towards cloud security outside of the pay? also why not comptia cloud +? I was thinking azure cloud security but i am curious why you chose ccsk?
CCSK is vendor neutral. The Vendor specific ones like AWS are teaching you THEIR products. They are good to get, but think time would be better spent building out a project on their platform that is security focused. Cloud Security has the most versatility and is VERY marketable
Great video, love the info. I have plenty of questions, which I hope lead to a few new videos from you., helping someone just going into community college for CS.
email me with your questions. Nicole@nicoleenesse.com
I know I should probably just look, but for some reason right now my interest is gravitating toward intrusion detection and forensics. Do you have an outline of that path?

By the way you did a superb job 👍 I like the vid
Thank you
What do you think Nicole, pentester cert or direct to cloud certs?
What do you want to do?
@@nicoleenesse im quite confused i like pentester but i would like something that will change my life to start a new career with a future and as soon as possible. Thanks
would an associates in cyber security still be a pretty good way to start in the field?
Yes, that is probably one of the best ways
This is the path I am on cupofmojoe, and get started if you have not! AS/AA in cybersecurity/information security assurance is my naming. You will get a download of entry level computer courses from hardware to software. Then you will move into networking and learning what it is to be a good hacker which will.cover the many fields of cyber. You will then take some disaster/forensics courses and if your AS is good you'll get into some coding scripts such as c++. All of which lead to a fairly good understanding of cybersec. Best of luck, or hard work!
Do you think you could be a cyber security and have a misdemeanor with vandalism when you were 18 years old which was ten years ago
@A. Savior someone told me that I wasn’t able to ever do that.
@A. Savior thank you 🙏🏼 I’m going to look into it.
It really depends on the employer. For some it will, but for others, they won't care. 10 years is a LONG time. i would look up the state laws, every state is different to try to get it expunged OR hidden so it doesn't show up when they run a background search on you.

Where would you rank the GIAC certifications
10/10. However, usually people get their employers to pay for it.
@@nicoleenesse are they acknowledged by HR?
@@christiandiaz7928 HR loves it, your pockets wont lol
@@J.Giovanni haha right on! I’m just trying to justify using my GI bill for it
@A. Savior They're like 5-6,000 dollars and up for the training and to take the exam.
Hi Nicole, I know you got your M.S. in cyber from WGU and I was just curious, could some do the same degree in a year comfortably while doing a job? Just trying to gauge how doable WGU on a realistic time frame. Appreciate any feedback!
Yeah, I know a few people to do it in a year. I would study for the CEH beforehand to get a head start. That will take you the longest
nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
@@nicoleenesse yeah
Great stuff ! Really appreciate the insights you gave on the certs and industry
