I also have a emachines E442-V133 laptop with the AMD V140 CPU. I just upgraded my RAM from the 2gb Kingston sticks to 8GB Crucial memory sticks ($46 shipped). The RAM worked perfect. I got the Crucial 8GB kit: CT5305051 (4GBx2) DDR3-1600 PC3-12800. I'm about to upgrade my CPU today to the AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N970 2.2 GHz CPU (EBAY used USA seller $67 shipped). Wish me luck!

Depends on how many cores you want. For all-out mhz speed the best is the dual core Phenom II N660 at 3.0Ghz. There is also the triple core N870 at 2.3Ghz or the quad core N970 at 2.2Ghz. Since this video I have upgraded to the N660 and it's pretty nice.

4GB works really well.This increases speed well. The laptop can be upgraded to 8GB. Yes a dual/tripple/quad core over the V140/V160 single core is again a useful upgrade (like the Phenom II N970 quad core).
Brilliant I've done it.Scary tho and keyboard I found very hard to get out! But well worth doing. The speed is incredible on google earth & it runs cooler and the CPU guage is generally under 50% instead of over 50%! thanks again wouldn't of done it without this video.
@SurushBlade The ones on the sides don't move--get the top of the keyboard out first, then you should be able to get the keyboard out of those side tabs--or stick something flat by the edge of the keyboard and pry it out around the tab.
Assuming you can find a replacement and get your case apart, yes. Looks like you have the same chipset as me, and the assembly should be pretty similar.
@CogZ97 The standard RAM is DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) so I'd stick with that to be sure it's compatible. I've actually already upgraded mine to 4GB, which I think is plenty for this system (2x2GB). I'm actually not even sure if it supports sticks over 2GB each
@guestandsons Should be fine. Sometimes they call them ultra, sometimes not. Sounds like the exact same one I used. As long as it's socket S1 (S1G4 to be exact) it should work.

Yes it will. I asked emachines and 35W TDP is fine but not 45W. So I'm running the phenom N970 2.2 Quad Core now 35W. This is my second upgrade on my emachines E442. It was a V140 2.3 then a P560 2.5 Dual Core now the phenom N970. So slap int he tripple core!

@DreamPhire It is a noticeable difference, mostly in multi-tasking as you would expect when adding more cores. Boot times didn't seem to change much. Windows Experience index gives the processor a 5.9 rating now, but I can't remember what it was before.
You need to figure out what the socket and TDP of that processor are. I'm having a hard time finding it with quick searches. You could download a program such as hwinfo to check, then look for other processors with that same socket and TDP--doing this you shouldn't run any hotter than you currently do.
well the last processor was 93C , max was 115C and i played GTA IV . This processor has been 71C better settings ingame . So im glad it is running very well .
@ZZZjoel43ZZ No, I don't notice it running any hotter. Both processors are the same wattage so that shouldn't be an issue. There is no video "card", it's a chip built in to the motherboard, so no it can't be changed.

Is it possible to have a portable usb device that either replaces or adds on to graphics cards, processors, or whatever? I have a gaming laptop, but only 1.73GHz. Even with a Nvidia Geforce GT 425M and 6gb RAM, I can only play the Witcher 2 on low and still get bad framerate and, more annoying, slow responsiveness (about 0.25 seconds).
Look at the Acer Aspire 5552-7803. That is the more expensive sister (acer) version of the emachines e442 (same motherboard). I don't know if the fan is different but that can run 35W TDP quad core processor.

I don't think most laptop video cards can be replaced at all. As far as I know they are permanently attached to the motherboard. And even if not, replacements are nearly impossible to find and very expensive.
@CogZ97 Again no--None of Intel's processors will work on an AMD platform--completely different designs. Any processor should tell you the socket, you want S1G4 and as I stated in the video the standard processor is 25 watts and I don't know if this machine supports anything higher than that. 35 watts *might* be ok, but I haven't tried.
I honestly don't know. The motherboard on mine died years ago so I no longer have it. You might try a Windows 10 compatibility checker and see what it says. I'm pretty sure Windows 11 is a no go.

I got a question, I have this same exact computer and it powers on, fans work, screen dose not work. I tried using a a spare monitor I had laying around and nothing came on the screen. (I tried using the screen with other computers and worked fine) Is this a mother board issue? or is this something else? Also, what mother board will work with this computer?
well you are wrong , it worked and its running wayy colder , last processor was sometime 93C this one has been max 71C . So yeah ... it works well and usually its is 52C-62C max .
Ok--everyone asking can I upgrade XX laptop here's what you need to do: 1) Download cpuz or hwinfo or some similar program. Run it, and get your current CPU's socket and TDP (watts) 2) Find a list of other CPUs that use the same socket and TDP Then you just need to figure out where to get the CPU (try ebay etc) and how to get to your CPU inside your laptop. Every model is different, so without having them in front of me I can't really tell you how yours works.
Well I should have qualified my answer better---at full load it will run hotter. Doing the same tasks with a faster processor will mean less load and could mean lower temps. A difference of 10W is likely negligible in many cases anyway. And I would question your monitoring software---at 93C your system would likely crash and you could permanently damage the processor.

I don't think so. Look up socket P on wikipedia. It shows other compatible processors, mostly core 2 duo. I don't think any of the i-series will work.
