I'm a 74yo woman and have been taking creatine for a while now. Talk about energy! I hike several times a week and I noticed a significant increase in my stride. I'm able to lift more during my workouts, my grip strength has improved (I can easily open things that were a problem last year), I maintain my 2 acres alone and have all the energy I need. I'm also a writer and I've experienced improvements there as well! I cannot say enough good things about creatine. Never experienced any bloating, but did realize I had to eat more, primarily protein. I found that it doesn't dissolve well in liquids so I mix it in yogurt every morning. Has no taste. I know I'm getting the full 5 grams this way.
I am 61 and started taking creatine about one year ago to aid my performance and for the cognitive benefits, especially in older adults. I work out 5 to 6 times a week, of which 3 of those days are strength training! My performance has greatly improved and am able to lift much heavier weights! Creatine is not a magic formula for body recomposition and diet is extremely important as well! Thanks for your advice and your channel Autumn!💪💪💪😍😍😍
@gman are you exercising and moving EVERYDAY? You have to move do anything lift weights, jump on trampoline, fast pace walk, jog, yoga you have to MOVE so you will not gain weight with it
Maybe I missed you saying this but another huge reason to take creatine is for RECOVERY. I'm 54 and let me tell you this has (easily) been just as big of a reason for me taking this as the increase in ATP it provides.
I bought some and took my first dose yesterday - I had a severe brain injury about a year ago - well I felt that first dose in my head - and my body craved more and I gave it more - the rest is rock and roll history - I took it and I felt it - and it has calmed down my brain - increased energy levels in the brain will calm down the panic and stress - my brain panicked under stress because it didn't have the energy to deal with the stress - now the energy levels are rising - it is a win/win nontoxic peptide that helps with depression/ brain injuries
This is not how creatine works. It takes a while to accumulate in your cells. You won't feel anything from a single first dose. An effect may be there, but probably psychologically.
Autumn- I'm stopping by to THANK YOU. I'm ketovoire. I came to your channel to search info on aiding fat loss. Lost over 80lbs since starting my journey 2 years ago and was really struggling with busting a newer and more difficult plateau because it was at a LOWER weight than what my body was used to. I kept foolishly adding protein or just eating less--- only to see weight gain..or fluctuate. I avoided carbs like the plague or kept them extremely low..deathly afraid of gaining back the weight...that was until I saw your video on fat loss and the different phases the body goes through when burning the fat off. This lead me to incorporate baked then cooled sweet potato once a week. And guess what???I busted through my plateu this morning 🎉🎉🎉 it only took two weeks!! You don't know how much this means to me! I've been the same weight for a year!! Thank you Autumn ❤ you are SO appreciated!! Keep doing what you do!! We need you!!
@@AutumnBates I'm ASD/ADHD and changing to a clean carnivore diet really helps. Carnivore is proper human behavior. I wish you good health and prosperity.
I just started about 2 weeks ago. I definitely noticed the lifting benefits immediately and the dry mouth ugh. I’m excited to see my progress over these next 6months because I’m trying to build more muscle too
I've been taking creatine monohydrate for over 20 years. The dry mouth side effect diminished after a while. It might help to drink a lot of water with each dose. I usually mix 5g creatine with 32 ounces of water and drink it over a period of an hour or so, stirring occasionally.
I’m 56 and have been a mountain runner since 1993. I also lift, rock climb and bike. I’ve always been fit but now at my age I want to start putting on more muscle, so I’ve started adding in creatine. Will be interesting to see how it compares to everything you mention in the video.
My holistic nutritionist definitely recommended creatine. Once my broken foot heals and I can start working out again, I will be adding that into my life plan. He also recommended a product called Perfect Amino. It’s eight essential amino acids.
Dr. told me do not take creatine as having too much creating will cause kidney problems. I kind of have early kidney problems, but I am still taking creatine until my UA or blood results show really bad issues with my kidneys. I think taking extra creatine might cause problems for your kidneys if you already have kidney disease. My tests have come back showing kidney issues but I didn't stop taking 5mg a day of creatine. What I did was increase my water consumption and starting drinking Dr. Berg Electrolyte Powder which is like other Electrolyte Powders. My test result came back fine. She's spot on like what others have said, drink A LOT more water and look for additional an electrolyte intake. Side Note: If you take BP meds, you will need to drink even more water and if you are taking a HCTZ be careful on potassium uptake via electrolyte drinks.
This video was so useful. I’ve been so thirsty and hungry too and was really wondering what was going on as I’d introduced a few supplements recently. Sounds like it might be the créatine … thanks 😊.
To increase muscle mass you need two things: 1). 5 grams of Leucine amino acid in first meal having about 45 grams of protein in total, and to have 2gr of protein per kg of body weight. 2). Do resistance training however you want.
Autumn, what brand do u take? Also: What are ur thoughts on kre alkalyn creatine? It's often recommended for those who get gi issues or other side effects w monohydrate, yet I rarely hear anyone talk about this type. It's buffered and absorbs better and would love ur take on it!
ATP is used for every type of energy in every cell, not just fast ones. The difference is how ADP us recycled back into ATP, using oxygen or using creatine
Hi! I really want to take creatine but there’s one question that concerns me which might prevent me from taking it: have you experienced any hair loss while taking creatine? Any response would help A LOT. I would really appreciate it 🙂
i've read/watched fitness influencers say to take 10mg of Creatine a day. Depending on how much a person weighs. Also, if you don't want to take 10mg at one sitting. Dose 5mg in the morning b4 a workout and then 5mg later in the day.
I started to take Creatine to bulk up lifting but it has eliminated brain fog for me as well. Interesting on the hunger as I have been gaining weight as well. 3 months in on taking creatine now.
Are you sure it was associated w/Creatine? Stop taking it and see what your BP does. I'd give it a couple of weeks to work it's way out of your system before testing your BP again.
What brand would you recommend??? I’ve taken a lot of your advice/suggestions with working out and diet( I love your protein powder), I even started following Lindsay’s channel! Needless to say I’m a huge autumn fan😊 thanks a bunch!
In my early 60's...lifelong gym rat...started taking off/on a few years ago. More energy. More strength. Increase in muscle size even at my age....while I'm on it. No ill effects. Need to try it again.
I love your channel you do a great job. I do have to say your 20 pound weight loss and body recomp is a lot easier at your age and most of your content speaks to your age. There are a lot of women like me post menopausal that these things just don’t work. I have been told by 2 functional Drs that me at 60 and have maintained 115 for 40 years and do resistance training but hormones have tanked that I should not be fasting or over training. I just think different advice for different age groups is important.
I agree that *Everyone* should avoid overtraining. I've stated this quite a few times in my videos, especially very recently. Plus what overtraining looks like for each person will vary based on age *and* stress levels, sleep levels, etc. I personally do total body workouts 2-3 days per week and walk daily. Balance is key regardless of age ❤️ I have a video coming out soon with more details on this.
Facts that is why I only watch 40/50 plus year workout women.. I just saw this because of creatine..I also stop doing my fitness instructors who were younger than 40 because they expect you look like them.. Im petite and 51 so my body is great shape 5’0 129 pounds but can’t get the muscle definition she got with same workouts so that was my last 20 something to train me
Thanks for sharing. I've taken creatine on and off for about 30 years and I've never had the side effects you had. Please remember to tell your viewers that they may not experience the same side effects and may not have any. I've never had any other than what appeared to be a couple pounds weight gain which is due to your body holding more water in the muscles. 😊
I Took Creatine for Over 20 Years. Here's What Happened. ...nothing noticeable. I'm sure it's helping in the ways that the research suggests. I just didn't perceive a change (other than a dry mouth initially).
Love your explanations from real life experience, answers so many questions I had from trying creatine a couple years ago and want to try it again…. I know monohydrate is the most commonly used, is that the type you chose?
Whenever I took creatine, I didn't feel my body responded to it. There's no "bodybuilding" supplement, bodybuilders tend to go afterwards anything that can enhance their recovery and performance; I'm not mentioning the drug part for professionals obviously. It provides energy but it's not as stimulating as caffeine if you need the stimulus taurine, arginine, citrulline and beta alanine can provide you that. Finally, for better digestion electrolytes should be paired with glutamine as recent studies suggest.
I would love to know your thoughts on BCAAs. A program my husband and I did last year highly recommended it, as well as L-citrulline for my husband. It was a more intensive type of body building program, but even if that isn't the case, I would love to see info on more of these supplements that help with strength/body recomp! :)
Thanks for that. I really struggled to lose weight but I have done and I am now BMI 24. The last thing I want in my life is something that may give me a raging appetite. I will avoid creatine like the plague.
Creatine definitely helped my work out recovery. And I do let's say fill out more. So much so when I take a break from Creatine. People will notice I have lost weight. Also not sure why but when I took a break I did feel less energetic.
When I took creatine consistently for 2 months, I noticed a big improvement in my energy level at the gym and loved the juicy pump ha ha! But I stopped taking it after 2 months for a ridiculous reason - my weight increased by about 1.5kg. I know it wasn’t fat (just water retention in the muscle), but as a woman the number on the scale mattered. Anyway now back down to lower weight but muscles are weaker and I’m not lifting as heavy. Plan to go back on it, for sure!
I'm sort of the opposite where I build muscle easily, but I don't lose fats super fast. I've been taking creatine on and off for years, but since I had my baby 11 weeks ago, I have been super consistent with it. I've seen amazing benefits, I've gotten strong so much faster than with my first three times being PP!
If you want to gain more muscle mass make sure your lifting sets are until almost failure! Id advise taking some HMB with that creatine also but truthfully i don't think women look to good with mass just lean cut muscle is the ideal look unless your going pro like myself in the 90's .
Hi Autumn, I recently subscribed to your channel and I found your workout schedule, which I have been following. (Weights and walking). Great info! However, I’m finding your videos a bit hard to follow. You have great info but can you slow it down a bit? You talk so fast and it’s hard to really grasp all the good info. Just a suggestion 😊Oh, one question…do you have any advice on intermittent fasting for post-menopausal women (I’m 59) I’ve been intermittent fasting since March 2024 and it’s going well, but I understand there is a better way to fast for your hormones but since I am post menopausal, how do I fast without knowing my hormone schedule anymore? Thanks so much!! Valerie
Oh my goodness, I didn’t make the connection with thirst & waking up with a dry mouth. I thought something was wrong with me lol. I weigh 116# & am needing to drink over 100 oz water daily to stay hydrated & to stay regular. Thanks for the insight, Autumn 🙏🏼
All this is accurate. One thing you might want to look into is the amount of creatine you need to take for brain function benefits. I have read that 3-5 mg of creatine is just for muscle benefits and that you would need to take up to 10 mg per day to also get the cognitive benefits.
Water retention doesn't occur in women when taking creatine. Creatine is superb! It does everything Autumn mentioned. It also helps with sleep. Your body doesn't need as much sleep when taking the supplement. It repairs a lot quicker when you have adequate amounts in your system. 💪
I notaced it helped me lift a bit heavier weights....but I put on a uncomfortable 7 pounds. I am 6-5 and like to keep it at 215...mid 60s. As soon as I stopped taking it I could drop the 7 pounds
Hi Autumn! Love your videos! Are you able to speak to if you did creatinine loading first? If so what was your dose and how long did you do load before taking a lower dose? Thanks!!
Larger supermarkets will have whey protein, any brand is fine :) if you're vegan, a combination of rice and pea protein is good, though I don't think they'll have that in supermarkets, it'll be online or health food shops.
Great video! I’m definitely interested in a follow up when you deem appropriate. I’m taking creatine and TMG to help muscle building. Thomas DeLauer has an incredible video detailing the studies that outline how it actually directly helps put on muscle mass, not just increase strength but actual new muscle. I don’t know why it’s not more popular. You ought to check it out!
Hey, not placebo at all. The first time I took creatine in my early 20s I was blown away by the effect within day 2. Similar to you, I had more power to left heavier and train for longer. The most amazing thing was the recovery time was insanely quick. Sadly, creatine doesn’t work for me anymore since my diet is heavy with meat. When I was young I was a bad eater hence why Creatine made a huge difference
The increased water demand sounds like its challenging to manage and are forced to take electrolytes. Increased sweating as well? My experience anything artificial has a draw back of some sort. What's the impact of creatinecon mitochondria in the long run? Do people do more hiit workouts without burning out or are they stuck with small reps? Does creatine improve marathon performance? Heart performance? Max rep 300 of squats in a row?
I'm an ectomorph in my '70s and would like to maintain and put on muscle mass. I heard that taking Creatine in the presence of caffeine can be problematic. Since I drink caffeine in the morning, WHEN is the best time to take this supplement?
I started taking it a few weeks ago. My doctor didn’t recommend that I do though? She said if I start taking it she wants to check my liver or kidneys in a month?? I don’t remember which one it is but I find that odd?
they mistake the creatine as high creatinine. Creatine supplementation can increase serum creatinine (Crn) concentration for some individuals, but it does not necessarily indicate kidney dysfunction, as creatine is spontaneously converted into Crn.
Get rid of that Doctor and listen to Dr. Gabrielle Lyon on protein/creatine and the kidneys/liver. You can find her on RUclips. Better yet she has a book out that’s great called Forever Strong. That’s ridiculous your doctor wants to monitor you unless you have certain existing health problems.
@delrio4222.. I am no doctor, but I believe creatine can elevate something called creatinine (sp?) which otherwise is considered a sign of potential kidney issues.. I believe there is another test they can run that is a better indicator of kidney health..
I started taking L carnitine combined with CLA, I’ve seen positive results. (Both pill form). I’m wondering why it’s suggested not to take both longer than a few months. Would you happen to know?
Did you take monohydrate or HCL? I tried mono (1 gram daily) and looked pregnant by the end of the day, which is not a great feeling! I read that the HCL form doesn't cause bloating.
Hi Autumn, my thighs and calves carry the most fat, and I don’t enjoy squats or lunges. Is keto the only way for me to lose fat around my thighs? I’m 161cm and 54kgs. Thanks I enjoy your videos!!
To lose fat, you have to be in a calorie deficit. There’s several ways you can be in a deficit, keto being one of them. Exercise alone does very little to help lose fat
I am 70, doing weight training and being carnivore for 10 months. I tried the creatine in powder but had to stop because it cause diarrhoea even taking a small amount. Any idea of how to take it? Before or after a meal, in water or another liquid (kefir) …

Water in the muscle is great tho
I'm sort of the opposite where I build muscle easily, but I don't lose fats super fast. I've been taking creatine on and off for years, but since I had my baby 11 weeks ago, I have been super consistent with it. I've seen amazing benefits, I've gotten strong so much faster than with my first three times being PP!
Hi Autumn Which creatine did you choose ?
Hi Diana! We use creatine monohydrate.
@AutumnBates thank you...which brand do you use as I am trying to find a good one to use.
It looks like NAKED CREATINE (see 1:29 of video).
@@BryanSmith-fp8hu I agree
Do you have recommendations on what brand of creatine?
If you want to gain more muscle mass make sure your lifting sets are until almost failure! Id advise taking some HMB with that creatine also but truthfully i don't think women look to good with mass just lean cut muscle is the ideal look unless your going pro like myself in the 90's .
should i take creatine in winters ?
Valerie
Go to the gear icon at the bottom of the video and change the playback speed to slow it down. :)
What brand of creatine do you use? Thanks.
I think you mean grams not mg’s.
What brand of creatine do you use?
Water retention doesn't occur in women when taking creatine.
Creatine is superb! It does everything Autumn mentioned. It also helps with sleep. Your body doesn't need as much sleep when taking the supplement. It repairs a lot quicker when you have adequate amounts in your system. 💪
I get bloated... I feel like I've drunk about six glasses of water for quite a while afterward.
I notaced it helped me lift a bit heavier weights....but I put on a uncomfortable 7 pounds. I am 6-5 and like to keep it at 215...mid 60s.
As soon as I stopped taking it I could drop the 7 pounds
It's because you gained muscle, not fat. Strong, not skinny!!
I wish! My apatite also went up. If i gained muscle it was not 7 pounds.

Sounds like water weight, which is common on creatine, especially early on.
Adorable baby!
Hi Autumn! Love your videos! Are you able to speak to if you did creatinine loading first? If so what was your dose and how long did you do load before taking a lower dose? Thanks!!
She said in the video she did not do loading and just did the reccomended dose per day
Autumn, thank you for what you do for us. I had to stop taking creatine after six weeks of trying it due to all the bloating. What do you recommend?
I'd advise that you start with a smaller dose like a half teaspoon and then increase.
HMB powder instead?
Is it better to get Creatine from natural sources or to take it in powder form?
Does creatine make you look bloated as it adds water weight?
Is there a creatine brand you recommend?
Can you recommend an over the counter protein powder that I can buy in the store that isn’t expensive and isn’t your brand?
And one I can get in 🇬🇧 uk
Larger supermarkets will have whey protein, any brand is fine :) if you're vegan, a combination of rice and pea protein is good, though I don't think they'll have that in supermarkets, it'll be online or health food shops.
Which creatine brand do you take?
It looks like NAKED CREATINE (see 1:29 of video).
Can I have creatine with coffee?
Autumn you hwve the best tasting protirn powder ever 🎉😊Ive tried a lot so thank you 💕🥳
Great video!
From what I heard, for hormonal balance reasons, it is not recommended for women to go below ~20% bodyfat.
Just a sidenote.
What creatine do you recommend?
Hi Timothy! We use creatine monohydrate.
It looks like NAKED CREATINE (see 1:29 of video).
If your'e eating enough meat, you simply dont need Creatine since you get it from your food already.
Through food through drinks we can get “ELECTROLYTES “ we don’t need to by sachets it’s a waisted of money
Wow! Great presentation, very similar to my experiences. I took Hcl mostly, monohydrate for a while, but seemed Hcl gave me better results.. Thanks ✌️
Which one are you using?
Loading phase? Do you cycle it?
I'm an ectomorph in my '70s and would like to maintain and put on muscle mass. I heard that taking Creatine in the presence of caffeine can be problematic.
Since I drink caffeine in the morning, WHEN is the best time to take this supplement?
Is there any significant notice once you stop taking it.
How do you take creatine?
Oh good; I’ve been wondering about creating.
Thank you, good info. You're baby is super cute!
I started taking it a few weeks ago. My doctor didn’t recommend that I do though? She said if I start taking it she wants to check my liver or kidneys in a month?? I don’t remember which one it is but I find that odd?
Kidneys
@@jessicagriser6495 why? What does it do?
they mistake the creatine as high creatinine.
Is there a brand you recommend ?
Hi Autumn, my thighs and calves carry the most fat, and I don’t enjoy squats or lunges. Is keto the only way for me to lose fat around my thighs?
I’m 161cm and 54kgs.
Thanks I enjoy your videos!!
To lose fat, you have to be in a calorie deficit. There’s several ways you can be in a deficit, keto being one of them. Exercise alone does very little to help lose fat
@@Buff_Yoda thank you
Is your protein powder gluten free?
I am 70, doing weight training and being carnivore for 10 months. I tried the creatine in powder but had to stop because it cause diarrhoea even taking a small amount. Any idea of how to take it? Before or after a meal, in water or another liquid (kefir) …
The body makes creatine, so having a deficiency would require a blood test. Adding extra creatine seems to have benefits without much downside.
Hi autumn I love the way you explain things thank you❤. Question which creatine did you end up going with and can you explain the research you did to select it?
Hi Hannah! We use creatine monohydrate. :)
Where can one buy very good quality creatine?
Idrink coffee and energy drinks, is that safe to do with creatine
For some people it doesn’t make you feel good if you’re taking creatine with caffeine but taking it on different times of day can help
Love to do an LMNT orange in a glass of milk. Tastes like a creamsicle.
Can you share where you got your soap dispensers by your sink please?
If you like the results you’re getting from creatinine, check out Create creatinine gummies! They’re delicious!
Do you mix with pre work?
Are you taking a creatine specific brand
Does LMNT break a fast?
Nah
