I was the camera man - I owned NNRT, who shot the orriginal footage, we combined live narration, with sound of the throttles and at times Helicopter noise - to make you think you are actually in the helicopter watching front row center. We did over 200 films from 1978 thru 1996 - Glad you enjoyed it - that makes my day !
You wouldn't have more deaths because unless it's calm they don't race anymore they have turned into a bunch of pussies. When I was racing it was open canopy enclosed canopy were just starting to show up. Racing old school open cockpit was a great time.
@@swaggerjacker1482 Actually they have more deaths with enclosed canopies than open cockpit. If you are worried about death stay home you should go under the category of pussy.
Went to my first offshore powerboat race in 1981 in Saugatuck, Michigan. 38' Michelob Light Scarab won it with Betty Cook as the driver. It was rough that day. Lot's of sea sickness in the crowd of anchored boats watching on the race course. I loved it and didn't get sick at all. Rough day much like here.
I live on grand traverse bay on Lake Michigan. It’s right across the bay from where they have the boyne city thunder run. We had an offshore race for a couple years in the mid 80s. The squirt 200. My hometown marina was used for the pits and because of my moms job I was able to go into the pits. It was amazing to see them working on the boats and the noise my god those big blocks and blowers.
That's running! Set up is perfect. Boat has beautiful balance, throttle man is on point, trim on the money and last but not least a tough as nails Apache hull underneath you! Drive that b!tch.
This was the boat Phil bragged about, not because of its speed but its reliability! He said in an ESPN interview that he had a superboat that was cost effective to operate and that he ran all race season on the same 3 engines and outdrives and that the 3X572's (all natural aspirated) made 850hp on regular grade gas! This boat was also remembered as PTM Express,a consistant contender that raced with the worlds best!
Fantastic boat ! these were the times of great offshore racing ! I have been loving powerboat offshore racing for more than 25 years and I remember vividly those years. But what a boat and great throotle and handling skills in these conditions. I am a great fan of Apache and 47's in particular. Thomas would you know what happened to Lucky Strike ? Your family still has it ? cheers anf congrats
I'm far from knowledgeable on this stuff, but I assume you have steering, throttles, and a navigator. Have no idea what the fourth guy does. Maybe watching the gauges. Love Apaches and this old footage though.
Yes, at times just listening and watching is all that is needed - Many of the videos you see on RUclips on Offshore Racing were the product of NNRT - as I owned the company and put all the talent together, Great Pilots - ( who were used in many races, I never liked "on the job training". Glad so many like what we did back in the day - for those that chose not to subscribe to our work, they now can look at still photos, but we are constantly reminding the racers what they did years ago - Thanks to the racers for believing in NNRT - which was sold to Rich and Darren Luhrs in 2003, and they renamed .
Lucky Strike was a wave smasher. The set-up is perfect, just crushin' it!!
Apache boats No. 1 FOREVER!
I could watch this ALL DAY! Thank you for this awesomeness!

Can someone please bring this type of offshore racing back open cockpits no closed canopy and unlimited HP this is what offshore racing is all about.
Agree 100% mate.
And more deaths?
You wouldn't have more deaths because unless it's calm they don't race anymore they have turned into a bunch of pussies. When I was racing it was open canopy enclosed canopy were just starting to show up. Racing old school open cockpit was a great time.
Gay cha deaths are rare dumbass

i love my fountain , but nothing gets me going like the 47 apache hammer down in its home turf beating the shit out of big ass waves .
Wish i could put this video on a continuous loop. Id use it to fall asleep at night. Hands down the best engine notes on all of youtube right here!!!
2:20 is the most agressive action i have seen in my life. Amazing these boats and engines can handle such beating

What up Bob Moore Ben looking forward to seeing you soon
Betty Cook opened the door for more women racers to follow! She set the bar high!

Seriously the best footage of offshore
listen to the engine note on that beast,,amazing,....
Not sure about everyone else but I love these Beasts of water wars.
wow the mystical lucky strike Apache!
Man that thing is just EATIN those waves!!
Triple big blocks howling away what a time!
EPIC 47 APACHE, KING OF THE ROUGH SEAS
Look at the size of those waves and it just rides right over them. Apache no other boat comes close.
That's running! Set up is perfect. Boat has beautiful balance, throttle man is on point, trim on the money and last but not least a tough as nails Apache hull underneath you! Drive that
b!tch.
MovieMuscle fuckin run it!!! Yee fuckin haw
Can you imagine how sore these dudes were the next morning! The way that beast handles those waves in that manner is just incredible.
Just Apache can cut those waves like butter while staying completely stable and flat...what a hull
Year after year i keep coming back to this video
4 Fountain owners think their 38 will handle this water in the same manner!!! Hahahaha
Hahaha
4 Fountain owners would be swimming in 30mins. Of this usage....from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠

I don't think 850hp was something you where getting on 93 back when that was built. Cylinder heads where lacking than.
Wish I had a build sheet on those 572's.
AWESOME footage!!!!
Other than a cute broad, is there anything more gorgeous than a big offshore rig, with those big MOFO V-8s growling like enraged lions???
HA!HA! SMILEAGE!!!!
Russian hookers?
Thai ladyboys?
Makes ya want one that for sure.
Thats the way to do it ....... Excellent !!!!
Can't decide if I prefer to look at it or listen to it.
wow that's a beautiful sight.
OUTSTANDING!!!!
Hi tom,
Thanks for this amazing footage. This looks so raw and tough! Is this boat till this day getting the love he needs?
BRUTAL...
Th zoom was amazing.
Still the coolest racing on the water
Lucky Strike had the #1 boat on the APB circuit!
Beautiful 🤩
Awesome video those engines tho sweet

What can you say...that's get'n it done. Lots of fun there...
back when offshore was actually offshore, now it is pussified, close to shore
AMAZING!!!!
REAL OFFSHORE RACING, NO CATS PUSSY FOOTING AROUND, EPIC VIDEO OF A TRUE OFFSHORE ANIMAL APACHE
APACHE..... THIS IS ADDICTIVE FOOTAGE 🐦 🐦 🐦
YES! THAT IS 2:36 MINS OF TOTAL FREEDOM, LOVE THIS APACHE VIDEO!!!
10 min? It’s only 2:36 for me
V-Hauls dominate the rough water. Cat`s are nice for calm water.
Haul?
That's bad ass!!!!
Apache Boats. Wide-open and offshore.. No better sound. Ferraris of the ocean 🔥
thats hard core, what speed would those guys be doing
Nothing like the OLD SCHOOL OFF SHORE
Not even into boats but I’m a a massive apache fan now ! Can you buy in Uk 🇬🇧
Nice
The real deal!
What did the additional two guys do? Don't you have a steering and throttle man nowadays?
I'm far from knowledgeable on this stuff, but I assume you have steering, throttles, and a navigator. Have no idea what the fourth guy does. Maybe watching the gauges. Love Apaches and this old footage though.
it doesn't get any cooler than this
gangsta gangsta
I'm trying to obtain a firewater 1 two or3 Apache 47
First time I saw 😲the propeller this Boat is “The boat of the Death” ☠️
Epic
That's a BEEEEAST!!! Go Baby Go!
Hearing those blowers do what they do in harmony
Apache's old secret trick was filling the first ten feet of the hull full of concrete lol. Right through the deadliest rollers.
wow
this people had balls...
Fucking awesome!!
Til next time ;)
The balls of the crew in this boat must slow the boat down at least 10 mph.
John Robert Bruffett Junior USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸!!
Love Apaches, but a 46 Skater would take it in that water.
We love to smoke american cigarettes !
can we just listen to the engines instead of two prats making inane comments
