    Beastie Boys changed the game for White Rappers

      True, but it was a point of time when no labels wanted to sign white rappers after the Vanilla Ice era, so it was harder for white rappers to get signed, even Em got rejected because he was white, and Fat Joe even confirmed that because he had a chance to sign Em, but didn't because he didn't know what to do with a white rapper at that time. When Em finally got signed to Aftermath, Em got super big and basically clean up the mess that Vanilla Ice had made and revived the interest of white rappers in the music industry.

    Beastie Boys sold 50m worldwide. Eminem is at 220M worldwide. At some point it wasnt as profitable to sign White rappers. It wasnt as marketable after Vanilla Ice. For Example: R.A The rugged man probably sold less than 1M in total. Beastie Boys and Eminem were perhaps the ONLY exception in Hip Hop.

    • @lamentate07
      @lamentate07 10 месяцев назад

      Correct, and this is what's overlooked when people point to Eminem as being the most successful because he is white. He is the ultimate exception. Most white rappers are popular on an indie/underground level. e.g. Slug, Aesop Rock, Vinnie Paz etc. Major labels signed many white rappers after Em blew up, but most of them sat on the shelf. e.g. Apathy etc.
      R.A. had a lot of bad luck, but I bet the main problem is that the majors didn't know what to do with him, so they let him go.
