    yesterday I went outside to my hoop and tested my vert. I had never tried to test my vert before but I've always wanted to dunk. I'm 6'1 with a 91'' reach. Yesterday I was at 20in vert and after watching this video I went outside a practiced the technuiqe for literally probably 3 mins and my vert went up 2 inches. Im not at 22 inches. My goal is to be able to touch the rim by this date next year. I'm also 261lbs so thats probably weighing me down a whole lot. I'm gonna shed some weight and start chasing my life long dream of dunking. Also my hands are 10in from pinky to thumb so i can palm a ball easily so the only thing stopping me is my vert. Thanks so much!

    Love it, very informational. But i have one problem, about the stutter steps and long strides ( The approach basically) , people always advice that but don't go into the reason why most people will stutter and slow down before they jump , which is week legs , their legs cant properly absorb all that energy so they automatically slow down or release some of that energy by using a stutter step , so the advice should be to strengthen their legs so they can withstand all of that energy.

    Hey Steven,
    Great tutorial, love the video as always. I've been watching your channel for around 2 years now and it has really inspired me. I'm 5'6" and chasing my first dunk and can get just above the rim but not consistently. My plant isn't consistent and I'm trying to work out the best approach for me. My approach is quite slow and I rely on power rather than speed, but I never know the best angle for my feet during the plant. If I'm coming at the basket straight on, when I take my penultimate step (I'm right left like you) and plant my right foot first, should it be facing the basket or should I be pointing it to the right a bit say 45-90 degrees? The same with my left foot as it lands, should I keep this straight on or should I be wrapping it round to be nearly side on to the basket so that it acts like a brake and stops me from going forward? I've been playing about with both and getting comfortable getting it to turn to the right to try and propel me more upright, but I'm not sure if this is the correct approach. Hope that all makes sense. What would your advice be?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Very eye opening. I'm a fast sprinter and strong for my weight (2 1/2 yrs lifting now at 165lbs 5'9") Just for some backround here are some of my lifting workout numbers to get an idea of my current strength level- max traditional deadlift 415, max bench 225 for 5 reps, 365 squat, 205 clean. 120lb +bodyweight dip and 85lb +bodyweight wide grip pullup. My standing broad jump is 122 inches. I'm pretty quick and decently strong, but I've always had trouble even touching the top part of the net. Recently I've been doing explosive workouts and have been able to consistently grab rim with a couple steps and a right - left jump. I've never attempted to jump like you have in this video (fast running start and extremely explosive movements) so I'm excited to try it out. Hopefully this gets me closer to dunking!

    Nice jumps and great info here. For others learning, wanted to clear up some terminology. 2:07 your block foot is actually your last foot down, the one you kinda curve inwards to really put on the brakes to transfer horizontal momentum to vertical. In your case, since you are a right-left jumper, your block foot is your left foot and your plant is your right foot. For left right jumpers, where you leap forward with your left leg in front, and your right foot is last down, then your right foot is your block foot, and your left foot is your plant. ruclips.net/video/pfpIocsqCGc/видео.html

    Question Steven, why do the majority of two foot jumpers lean on their dominant leg and have the second plant leg cave in ( as in the case of CJ) ? It looks like knee valgus which isn’t proper biomechanics. Wouldn’t you prefer both your knees to line up with your toes ? Thanks for the videos by way brother !!!

    Bro can you help me out?
    I am 100% a one foot jumper, i jump a lot higher of one foot, but the problem is that i think i been jumping with the wrong foot...
    My strong foot is the right, i played 5 years soccer so my right is 100% the stronger one, but when i start the run-up i end up jumping with the left foot, i still jump pretty high but i think i could jump almost twice with my right foot because everytime i'm training my vert with one leg box jump i always struggle with the left to jump on a high box, while with the right i can do it 3 times easier.
    But the problem is when i try to start the run-up with my left foot to jump with the right one, i do like a weird weak ass run-up that cancel all my momentum so i end up losing bounce and explosivity, please help me how can i fix that?

    • @mijkwgeblwxz6853
      @mijkwgeblwxz6853 5 лет назад

      It’s because you’ve jumped w ur left foot so much that ur muscles developed a memory so you don’t have to think about doing it. But when you try to jump w ur right foot it’s against ur muscle memory and ur body does that weird ass thing as a way of telling u ur doing it wrong. You just gotta keep trying it over and over again until ur body gets used to it. It’s like dribbling. Obviously when u start to play ball ur gonna dribble w ur dominant hand better bc ur used to it. U gotta keep dribbling w the weak hand until u become comfortable. I know it’s the opposite for u in ur leg situation, but the same concept applies.

    @Steven Celi, great stuff! I.m 49 and 6ft 2 and 274lbs and lift hard 4 days a week and looking to dunk for the 1st time. Will these drills increase my vertical alone or do u recommend some other drills for that?

    How did you increase your height and lessen the awkwardness of your opposite plant?

      Steven Celi I just made it sound way more confusing my bad😂, but I meant how did you get your opposite plant almost on the same level of your normal plant

      Steven Celi your vids have helped me out a ton and keep me motivated. In the last 3 months my vert has increased 5.5inches. I still got about 11inches to go before I start yamming but I’ll keep pushing!How long did it take you from the first day you start trying to getting your first 10ft dunk?

    I need advise... you’ve seen my videos, and I typically jump off 1, but recently... jumping off of 1 has been kind of awkward feeling. And jumping off of 2 is starting to feel more natural. But to me, left right feels better rather than right left as u do. But why are my 1 foot jumps starting to feel more awkward???

    • @BeTheEnergySteve
      @BeTheEnergySteve  6 лет назад

      just keep jumping off both one foot and two foot dont stop. idk maybe you're getting stronger and going to fast now?? just try to look at your technique and find out exactly where it feels strange

      Jake Valentine you don’t have to convert, you should practice both
