    That Batman thing is a MOTORCYCLE with pedal assist/backup !!! Class 3 should be, with PA, 50kph and up to 25 kg ... Q.E.D.

      Yeah, the laws vary state by state, but this would technically need to be registered as a class A motorcycle (NYS) and of course, you would need a valid motorcycle license to go along with that.

But I have a full width Right Hand Throttle that I cut down to "Grip-Shift" length and incorporated it into my Right Hand Grip. Class 3 in the USA is Pedal Assist only, up to 28 MPH. Class 2 is the only "class specific" bike that can have a throttle, and limited to 20 MPH.

    • @frizzen
      @frizzen 7 дней назад

      Yes. Many companies are selling "multi-mode" bikes with a throttle that goes to 20mph and pedal assist to 28mph. These are not legal in California. Ebikes in California must have a sticker that declares what class it is. It can be 1, 2, or 3. I cannot be class 2 and 3. I don't know about other states.

    I really like your suggestions around speed and use locations. As a motorcyclist, I thought my ebike needed to go at least 28 mph. I ended up with a class one with pedal assist top speed 20 mph, and I’m more than convinced that’s plenty fast enough. Especially on bike paths where there are families and kids riding at much slower speeds. If it’s got a throttle and it goes 28 or faster, I think some education and some licensing might be in order if you plan to ride in public streets.

  • @andyarchitect
    @andyarchitect 7 дней назад +1

    We really need to start calling high power bikes "e-motorbikes" because that really is what they are along with the requirements for helmets and insurance etc. It confuses the general public when we use the term "ebike" interchangeably for both, and gives ebikes a bad name when you hear negative news stories about high power bikes being used antisocialy or in crimes which seems to be reported increasingly often these days. We should be clearer how we refer to them so as to maintain trail access and avoid conflicts with other trail users.

    In 6 years ive had zero conflict issues with the 20mph cut out speed in n america and i believe 28mph would be fine for commuting. Noticoling on your display youre only barely getting to 20mph on those dbl track trails when youre in class 3 and it looks like you could slow down for any oncoming traffic if there were some. Once again zero issues with our 20mph top assist speed in class 1 on trail on the east and west coast of canada on all types of trail with long travel suspension. The true test is smooth flowy alpine out and back busy trails and no problem there either. The speed is easily controlable at that level of cut off and people adjust for blind spots because up or down you natural avoid crashing. Up or dowm assisted or not people don't fly blindly around corners

    A 50kph/31mph Class 3 E-Bike is safer and more practical for commuting on the street here in NJ as the 1940s 25mph local speed limit is still default speed that everyone exceeds it at around t30mph normally.
    The 25mph is a good default as it keeps people thinking of not doing 40 mph and going around 30mph that the police will tolerant ... 35 mph will get you a ticket in most small towns

    I converted an old bike with a cheap kit years ago and it feels fine up to around 25 30mph, after that it is not really good enough should anything happen that required a proper emergency stop,

    The ability to change classes by yourself defeats the purpose of classification, as it is the government body that imposes those restriction, not the rider. This is the main reason why e-MTB industry is hesitant to adopting BAFANG systems, as they pose a threat to accessibility, at least in the US market. It is not a secret that the majority of mountain bike community in USA is strongly opposed to e-MTBs. It's just so ingrained in their mentality that they fail to see reason. Advocates for responsible e-MTB use have barely established credibility with land managers and introducing systems that are open to self classification can blow all that effort to bits.

Ebikes basically follow the moped rules. As long as you’re riding responsibly (staying to the right as much as possible, not impeding traffic, no dashing in and out of lanes-dodging traffic, obeying traffic signals, wearing a helmet), you should be fine.

    This is basically a promotional video for that particular brand/model of UK illegal eMTB for public spaces. Why not at least tape over the branding if it’s not? Let’s be honest most buyers don’t have a mate who owns a farm. Personally I think raising the legal limit to 20mph in the UK will squash the illegal chipping and throttle market, and allow bikes on the road to keep up with traffic when in a 20mph limit reducing overtaking risk.

My car can go over 170 MPH almost 300KPH but yet I drive it at a reasonable speed. Plenty people ride open modded E bikes and don't care so most don't care about the laws. I don't want some police "stealing my bike from me" so I ride it on my own property to chase my dog. The regulation and "Sustainable Development" and myth that carbon dioxide is bad for plants, is from the United Nations-they are running they whole world now and their puppets in every country have been saying "6uild 6ack 6etter" for 4 years whilst destroying their economies deliberately. Have a look at the open cask mines worldwide and the "Artisanal Cobalt Mines" in Congo in particular to see that lithium batteries are actually much worse for the environment than petrol.

      Not sure how gung-ho the police are where you are but if you’re riding responsibly, you shouldn’t have a problem.

    If you need speed and a throttle buy a E motor bike or motor bike. All the speed you want then.

    Would you expect anything different when people don’t want to pedal anymore and hack their bikes top speed??? Pretty obvious people on e bikes don’t care about classes of E bike.
    It’s like inventing the car and not expecting people to make it as fast as possible.
    Don’t expect it NOT to kill Analog for more profit also.
    Full throttle motorbike industry eventually.

    I really wish you wouldn’t promote electric motorcycles, they’ve got nothing to do with electric pedal assist mountain bikes and only go to confuse those who would like to ban what we legally have now.
    If you want to ride a motorcycle then go through the test and get it taxed, MOT’d and insured.

      In NYC, I love seeing electric motorcycles going 50mph and the rider is “pedaling “ at 2RPMs 😂😂😂

    If you’re gonna start having E-motorcycle content, I’ll hit that unsubscribe button so fast, it’ll make your head spin.

    Rules based on watts, or top speeds are too easy to circumvent and hard to test. A simple weight limit of 18kg would be more effective. 40kg electric monstrosities with 4" tires don't magically become bicycles just because you have to turn the pedals. Hand throttles are safer than current "run on" foolishness.

      In NYS, we have laws that limit wattage, speed and weight.

    I have seen this bike before. Its the latest version of those cheapie made in China bikes that are poor build quality and iffy if not dangerous parts. No thank you.

    The same people who say C02 is going to destroy the planet, do everything they can to make sure you don't have fun on your ebike.

    New firmware and a throttle for a Levo would be nice or a drop in bafang
